I’ve never loved his vocals, but I love his distinctness. Nobody else sounds like him, and he’s not trying to sound like anybody else but him. It’s wonderful. Even though I don’t think he’s a “great” singer, his charm has grown on me. I enjoyed this cover quite a bit, though I’d still take McCartney first any day lol!

Also my personal opinion is that he is a master of his own voice, you can't really control how your voice is but you can learn to use it's unique qualities and create a unique sound with it. I think robert smith is a great example of that imo

That year, The Cure's contemporaries Siouxsie & The Banshees (with Robert on guitar!) covered another Beatles song, "Dear Prudence," which became their biggest UK hit to date. 1983 was also the year Robert Smith formed The Glove with Banshees bassist Steven Severin; the band's name came from the enemy mitten in the 1968 film _Yellow Submarine._ Therefore, I would not be surprised if Smith attempted to cover this song while also as a member of The Banshees and The Glove.
The Beatles could take a song with seemingly simplistic lyrics, and create a masterpiece. Pauls melody on this with the crescendo building beat is pop/rock gold.
