Don Jacobson, my uncle, passed away a few years ago, but lived a great life with Parkinson's disease until the very end. It was about staying positive, staying engaged, learning, and helping other people. Keep happy. Keep positive thoughts in your mind. Don't let the disease get you down, because it's an endless spiral! You can be an inspiration to those you love. Never give up! You have our love and prayers. Be strong!

Thank you for sharing this. I'm sorry for your loss. He is inspiring me to stay positive for sure. I was just diagnosed with PD I'm also 57. So his outlook really made me less scared. Thank you again 💕

Don, I wish you and your wife nothing but the best. Everyone with Parkinson's should watch this because you're so inspiring! I also think your annunciation is great! You're one of the most courageous and positive people I've ever seen on here. 83? No, you don't look a day over 60! :) Bless you, and your family!

I admire you. What a wonderful outlook you have on life. I have a nephew who has had Parkinson’s for several years and he’s in his middle forties. I want to refer this video to him.

Very inspiring. But what was the trigger that caused the remarkable improvement? Mentality, mindset?

Very inspirational and informative. I have early onset Parkinson’s and I am trying so hard not to let it define me.

Oh boy, We'll it sucks. You can't change necessary change, but meds are getting better and better. The big thing is that you CAN live with it...and everyday is a blessing, no matter what. I remember many days with my uncle Don where we actually sat and laughed at his insane predicament. One time, we tried to create a mouse with piles of Kleenex on it as a kind of shock absorber for his shaking. It actually worked!
But the harder and harder he worked to stay busy, focused and engaged, the less Parkinson's defined him. In time, no one even knew he was living with it. There were things his wife would notice like the stoop, shuffle, stare, holding his left hand near his left pocket, loss of balance, etc. that she had to call out. Don just listened and took them as "help", not. criticism. In time, he gained control over these things, and as the symptoms left, he just began to live life normally again. And as you can see from the video, he overcame nearly all of the things about Parkinson's that could have defined him.
Stay positive. Stay engaged. Have projects which require you to be working with other people. A supportive spouse really helps.

What did he do to get better?

    • @chippy7745

I believe it was the things he was listing…like, staying engaged, working on the computer (Bingo), being social, and running and all those types of activities. He really was quite improved from the level of debilitation he says he was at before. Pretty amazing.

I have found i on this video to be very inspiring.
I have Barnes and I have had it now for about six years but it’s getting really bad and I know I’m holding onto hope. I’m hoping to get a DBS in the near future because I want more life to live. I do it it’s just that DDS is very expensive and I’m hoping to get the funds to do this.
Perhaps you could help me develop my video - I am struggling to get it as professional as your dads
    thanks Deborah

I don’t think he had DBS…he didn’t mention it here. I believe it was the things he was listing…like, staying engaged, working on the computer (Bingo), being social, and running and all those types of activities. He really was quite improved from the level of debilitation he says he was at before. Pretty amazing.
