Somewhat, yes. Our accent is more closely related to British and Scots-Irish ones than it is to our Northern neighbors. There are some pretty big differences of course, but you take a Brit, try and get him to infuse a little Irish into his talk, and then slow it way down... you’ll come out with something close, with just a few nuances.

I totally agree with you, especially what you say on the way he challenges standards of masculinity. I'm only kind of discovering him now (I'm late to the party, I know...), but I'm really fascinated by both his work and his personality. And I have to say, I am annoyed at the misogyny often directed at his fans. There are MANY reasons why women are drawn to him so much (whether we're talking about him as a person, or some of his characters like Loki), and they are not just superficial reasons like his bum or his smile or his sexy voice. I've read he was kind of a nerd in school, and I am absolutely not surprised. And the diktat of "coolness" is a huge problem with traditional masculinity. You have to appear like you don't care too much, like nothing can affect you, like you don't "try hard"... Tom's the opposite of that. He is an open book (super expressive), he shows vulnerability and passion, he works super hard at everything he does, and he always delves into topics with incredible intensity. He's not afraid to show he cares. A lot of people consider I Saw The Light to be Tom's biggest flop of a movie, but it's my personal favorite of his works.
My mum would have loved this movie. Her favorite country singer. She wanted Mansion on the Hill played at her funeral and she got her wish.

Tom did a REMARKABLE job! There's acting - then there's bringing the character to LIFE ❤
This film didnt get great reviews and Tom was noted on how he didn't sound like Hank well excuse me but I think he did a fucking good job. It's one thing to do an accent but it's another thing entirely to sing in that accent. Tom is so talented and I think he's a treasure to us all.

It's amazing that during this time Hank was suffering from severe depression, drug addiction, and alcoholism, yet he made some of the most uplifting songs. This is very hard to do, only a few artists in history have been able to do that. Truly amazing.

Tom Riddleston is such a brilliant and convincing actor - I literally didn't realize the same guy played Hank Williams in this movie (which I saw and enjoyed when it came out) and was the star of The Night Manager, until I saw an interview in which Tom R mentions it.
And he did his own singing for the role!
