I like the position you recorded from, from a sound standpoint-aside from the vocals peaking at times, I LOVE the blend of electronics and acoustics we got. Thanks for filming this, Nick; I knew when I requested this, we were going to get one heck of a book!
nothing could have prepared me or my mic levels for how loud that VO was going to be coming from those speakers lol. ears were getting blown out as well. Glad you liked the video!
It's a different voice than Brad Mehldau, so I imagine it was just easier to have the lines re-VA'd instead of chopping them up after isolating them from the rest of Taming the Dragon
I think they’re distracting in this video because it’s just the percussion, so they are way overbalanced in respect to that context. When played in context with the hornline, and all frequencies are properly balanced on the field, the narration is less of a focal point and more of a complement to the flow of the show design. In the videos I’ve seen of the show, they are some of the most understated, subtle narrative elements I’ve heard from an ensemble since the inception of electronics on the field.
I'm not a fan of the vocals and electronic keyboards. I'd rather the musical talent be the focus. Yeah, I'm old and "don't get it", so hold your flames...
This is the first comment to say BLOO so I’m gonna say it… BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FINALLY someone actually records the front ensemble

The electronic riffs distracted me so I didn’t get much out of it . Can’t wait to see video of just the battery
that's a phat transition at 3:56
tom rarick you madlad
will there be a video with just battery?
unfortunately not. I got to this lot right after coming from Cavaliers' lot and so I only caught this that night.
starting around 10:08 i get anasickmodular(floating points) vibes
Someone tell that guy to shut up, I’m trying to listen to the instruments. Rude.
I bet it was very annoying chopping the vocals at 4:52 to remove him cursing

@@jburbygo I genuinely did not notice
what is the voice over?
Taming the dragon - Brad Mehldau
Ben, I love you
that's a lot of rambling for a DCI show ngl
becoming a boa band lol
Does anyone else think the voiceovers are excessive? Like two or three are fine but after that it’s kind of a distraction for me
Nah, they sound fantastic

Brad Mehldau….. really? That album sucks except for the couple of live versions of the tracks on YT.
3:30 electronic hornline?
they sample the actual hornline that played that same bit on the field from what I saw at the show so the trumpets on the field can layer over it live
those uniforms...
