I had a choice in 85 and I went with the KX 500. I've ridden a lot of 500's, but the 85 KX 500 was without a doubt one of the most brutally powerful 500's ever made. It had way too much power on the low end of the power band and not enough on the mid range and top end. Fortunately I had pro racer friends and one of them raced the 85 KX 500. He ported my cylinder and completely solved that problem. I really miss those days.

Sorry for the delay, tbh all those bikes in mid 80’s were sick to ride and SO MUCH FUN!! I never rode the kx 500 sadly, but had an RM500 and that too was an animal!! I miss those days too! I remember riding a YZ80 and was like omg!
