Idk about the new soarin' but i remember soarin' over california had smells pumped in for certain scenes (I distinctly remember a fresh orange scent when flying over the orange grove) and it was colder when you were over the snowy mountains.
I'm conflicted, I like how diverse the music is on the around the world version, the transitions, the picture quality, the fact that the ending is NOT Christmas, etc. However over cali is superior because it shows how California is diverse, doing one about the world is, well everyone nows the world is diverse in some way.
I wish, hope, and believe that Disney will make an updated version of Soarin Over California. Where they recreate and update all the scenes with all of those transition moments just like what you see on Soarin Around The World and add on some new one's like Sacramento, Point Reyes National Seashore, Hearst Castle, Sonoma Raceway, Mineral King Valley, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Mono lake, Mission San Juan Capistrano, Carlsbad Tulip Fields, The Poppy Fields of Lake Elsinore and My Hometown of Auburn, CA to make this Classic Ride Longer.
A thing I hope that Disney will do is that in a few years they will change it up again. Keep it a certain Soarin for a few years, and then change it up like every 6-10 years. Just to keep it fresh and so it doesn't get boring. That would be nice.
I went on Soarin over California years ago. It was one of our favorite rides. I was just in Disneyland last month and got to ride the new one, but it doesn't hold a candle to the original. I'm not sure why. Maybe it doesn't move as much anymore, or the scenes are less interesting, or the new one has too much CGI, or the music is not the same? Maybe it's everything put together, but whatever the case we were disappointed with the changes to our once favorite ride.
I've sat through both multiple times and I would give the edge to Soarin Around the World. I like the way it transitions from scene to scene, but both are great.

i had the privilege to ride Soarin' Over California when it returned for a limited time. i really loved all the scenes and smells! i will say, around the world definitely is a step up with its footage stabilization
Because it’s bad to wear slippers on this ride. When you’re up in the air, the slippers can EASILY fall off. If you don’t believe me, then how about trying it yourself and finding out the hard way?

Soarin over California will always be better for 9 reasons: 1. It fits the theme of the park which is california 2. Louder and better music 3. More movement in the camera work 4. It looks like it was filmed in the summer since the sun is shining much more brighter in the majority of the locations than in around the world which looks like it was filmed in the winter 5. The loading music is actual music instead of some boring sounds of howling wind which is what around the world has to offer 6. Better smells (including the orange smell of course) 7. Better background music in the pre show video with Patrick Warburton 8. The pre show video that shows us the locations that we’re gonna visit isn’t in Indiana Jones style 9. After the ride finishes, Patrick Warburton says “On behalf of our entire flight crew, thanks for soarin with us!”

@@ryanmomtahan4786I think you're half right. Soarin over California should remain at Disneyland but they used to play Soarin over California at Epcot in Disney World. I think it's better that they changed it to reflect the world showcase at Epcot. Since Disney has parks all over the world I think it would be cool for every park to have a Soarin with images that were reflective of the location of each particular park.
I love that they decide to change things up, and when they do it like this with a musical nod to its predecessor, it's usually a job well done. I love the original, but from a tourist perspective, no one is gonna recognize any of these Californian locations. I think they did a great job with the new ride, including the new film. Not really sure what people are complaining about. The new film is great! It's exactly what they did before, just new locations with some added CGI. Thanks for this awesome video!
I think the problem people are having is that because of the CGI it looks unrealistic and the music and flow of the old one was really well done. This one doesn't flow as well. Also when you ride it everything has kind of a curve to it ruining the illusion. It might just be me but i don't remember it curving so much on the old version.

This and your followup are the funniest comments I’ve read today, highlighting the absurdity of there being warring fandoms over such a tiny niche. Most of the World scenes are better than Cali, and the best World scenes are better than the best Cali scenes. That being said, the ride was conceived as an aerial tour of the park’s surrounding area, with the message being that not only is Disneyland itself magical, but was built in a magically diverse, epic location you may have overlooked as mundane. World loses that effect, leaving it to compete with the even more immersive VR spectacles now readily available. This is why Cali is getting all the love in here, and probably why I was underwhelmed by Cali when I first experienced it 2 decades ago in Florida.
Actually the quality is about the same since they upgraded the system to a laser projection system. The former Soarin' Over California film was upgraded to this when it came back out from the refurb.
