    The main reason I don't like domino effect logic is because the stopping point for blame is up to interpretation and is far too susceptible to bias. For example, Walt is indirectly responsible for the plane crash, but so is Jessie, Jane, Jane's father, the Employee that let him work that day, the creator of Crystal Meth, Walt's Mother for conceiving him, ect.
    The Point of blame is basically wherever a person wants it to be, in order to justify their feelings.
    Hate Walt for his actions, but there is no point in hating him, or anyone, based on unforeseeable outcomes.

    • @Jeremy-jm3fe
      @Jeremy-jm3fe 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Okay, you lost me at "the creator of crystal meth and Walt's mother for conceiving him". Thinking that way will just drive you insane, and the domino effect is not intended to be traced that far back. The "stopping point" is Jane's first introduction in the series.
      Walt is responsible for the crash, simple as that. She wouldn't have died if Walt didn't shake Jesse, thus causing Jane to flip over.

    • @RynKen
      @RynKen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      @@Jeremy-jm3fe Here's the thing. If Jane's dad hadn't given Walt some advice at the bar, He wouldn't have gone back to jessie's house at all. By your logic, that would make him the one at fault; It's a flawed way of looking at it.
      Simplifying things doesn't work, when relevant information is actively ignored.
      Jane Took a drug that has a high chance of choking you with your own vomit, Walter unintentionally moves her, while trying to wake up Jessie, Jane Dies while Walt does nothing, Jane's dad goes to work while still distracted and causes a plane crash.
      This is not simply all Walters fault; These are adults, not children.

    • @zamarokxl
      @zamarokxl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      @@Jeremy-jm3fe Nah bro he didnt crash the plan, the grieving father did. If he had paid more attention there would be no problem. It's like a gun shop selling a gun to some random guy who ends up shooting a centre. There was no way of knowing that selling that particular gun would facilitate that, therefore not your fault.

    • @tmujir955
      @tmujir955 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    19:36 is the first time I've ever seen Hanna say something dumb. Being shot in the gut is very likely a SLOW death sentence, with excruciating pain for every long second of it. In this scenario, the poor guy would have been much better off taking one in the head. But at least she does get something wrong, which is such a relief! Especially after 9:00 which is, as usual, smart as Hell.

      ik this comment is super old but ima reply anyways, i think she meant it was better to get shot in the gut in this scenario, because you could play dead and still have a possible chance of surviving if they leave you alone, versus if you were shot in the heart/head/neck/lung or all that shit, you're fucked regardless (all of this becoming null and void anyways because the dumbass started trying to very obviously crawl away)

  • @giantWario
    @giantWario 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I hate having to defend Walt, I definitly think hes an asshole driven by pride who deserved everything that happened to him but I absolutely never got why some people blame him for the crash. And yes, I get that this was probably the writers intention but I don't agree with them either. You are responsible for your own actions only. Walt is responsible for Jane's death (well mostly, not like he forced her to refuse to go to rehab). But he is responsible for absolutely no one else's death in that whole affair.
    Trying to use to butterfly effect or domino effect doesn't work here because anything or anyone can be the first domino. Oh Walt is responsible for the overdose so hes responsible for the plane crash? How about Jane herself is responsible for the overdose because shes an addict? How about Jesse for making Jane an addict again? How about the drug dealer who sold them the heroin? How about the man who made the heroin? Or what about what made Walt break into Jesse's house in the first place? If we can blame Walt for Jane's dad actions then we can also blame Jane's dad for Walt actions since hes the one who convinced Walt to go in there. Isn't it nice how easely the domino effect can lead to circular logic? The money is the cause of the conflict between Jane and Walt as well so really, if it wasn't for that deal with Gus, she'd still be alive. So Gus is to blame. Or Saul for putting them in contact with Gus. Or Mike since he was most likely the ''guy who know a guy'' who arranged the meeting between Walt and Gus. Or hell, Jesse's parents. Jesse woudn't have went to live next door to Jane if Jesse's parent hadn't kicked him out of the house.
    You start using domino effect and the plane crash can be the responsability of absolutely every character in the show. The butterfly or domino effect only apply to physical things like, say, actual dominos falling on each others and butterflies flapping their wings. You can't apply it to people feelings or reactions it just doesn't work that way. People are only responsible for their own actions, not what anyone else decides to do afterward.

    • @izzardclips9350
      @izzardclips9350 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      He isn't really responsible for the plane crash, but I think it's meant to be symbolic of how Walt's decisions wreak havoc around him. He makes a product that is killing people and is putting himself and other people he cares about in danger. It is, like the crash, collateral damage of his decisions.

    • @lxner1910
      @lxner1910 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You’re pretty spot on with that, but even then Walt would still be the first domino because none of this would’ve happened if he just swallowed his pride and accepted the job offer from Elliot, be honest about his cancer from the very beginning, and not force Jesse to work with him because he didn’t need to make those decisions, he did those things of his own free will and look at what’s happened because of that.

    'No Mas' means so many things. No more of Walt being a crook (for however long that lasts), no more of Jesse lying to himself and being irresponsible and no more of Skyler putting up with Walt's shit.
    There's no way Walt doesn't feel responsible for the plane crash. The way he tried to rationalize how the crash wasn't that bad in that speech to the school shows he wants to try alleviate his guilt.
    Skyler is no dummy. With her taking apart all Walt's lies it makes sense she would be able to put together some idea of what was really going on.

    Also, not to discredit what Breaking Bad was for television at it's time. But FX was making many great drama's before AMC put out it's Mad Men, Breaking Bad, & Walking Dead's. Particularly, The Shield, being one of the drama's to help push Breaking Bad to being a possibility with it's gritty narrative and bold directing. And Breaking Bad improved on many of the shows traits, that helped it become as successful as it did.

    Colors play a big part of this show according to Vince Gilligan. Each color represents more like Greed, Power, Envy, etc. But for the most part, those are each characters main color that you see surrounding them. Nothing on this show, no matter how small or noticeable it might be. Nothing you see on screen is by accident.

      OnyxStudios what you’re saying is that the character is likes because he’s so well-written and acted. I agree that he is. We’re talking about those who see Walter as a hero and hate other characters like Skyler and sometimes Jesse and basically anyone who isn’t him. Walter is complex but I consider him a villain and I consider him one very early on in the show, because he had opportunities to provide without becoming a drug manufacturer. It was always about his pride. At least to me.

    The planes crash are not Walt fault. If he was it would be same that saying that you're a murderer if you throw a shopping bag on purpose away, then a bird picks it up and flies away with it, he lets it go and slowly drops to the ground, where it's gonna block the sight of a driver and make him run over someone, killing him. If in that scenario the person who threw away is a murderer than Walt is to blame for the plane crash.

So could Jane by not passing out on the bed so damned high that if she or Jesse so much as twitched and shifted positions (like just about every normal person does) while sleeping that she'd choke and die. So could Donald by not going back to work. All of these people are far more culpable than Walt, but he's the only one we focus on.
