Putting aside Walt and skylar and who is more wrong etc, the thing which enrages me the most about the episode is how Walt is weaponising Walt junior and uses him as further leverage in his fight with skylar. Acting as the noble wronged party who is the only one acting reasonably and can only say good things about the mother so that Walt jr hates her and sides with him.
I grew up in a family where my abusive dad tried EXACTLY the same trick to get me onside so my mum would be less likely to try and leave him. Luckily I knew what was going on and didn’t fall for it. It’s quite hard to miss limping and bruises, it’s not Walt Jrs fault for not knowing his dad is a meth cook.
I taught preschool students for 6 years, and it always broke my heart to see the kids caught in the middle of their parents' mess. They would always use the "I love you more than Mommy/Daddy does" line, or manipulate their child into taking sides just to hurt their ex. Even though Walt Jr. is not a preschooler, it's still infuriating seeing him defend his dad while Walt stands there smug like he's done nothing wrong.
You know it's good show when all a character needs to do is silently hold a baby to make people hate him.
I disagree with that. Despite Walt being very egotistical, he didn't weaponise Walt Jr in this situation. What do you expect him to say when Walt Jr questions Skyler? Nothing and allow him to demonise her? That would have done absolutely nothing with Walt Jr, he still would have disliked his mother for how she was treating Walt because he had *no* *clue* what was going on. The least Walt can do is stop Walt Jr when he begins to go too far.
the point is that in the beggining it wasn't about that , what he says is truth , he find out he was going to die and he got into this plan got getting money for them, and that's it's honorable. but yeah breaking bad like the name says has a lot in common with the movie Falling down . Walter discovers a new himself a more "free" himself, and with time he starts to be found of it. i feel that many people commenting have their judgment clowded by season4 and 5. cause if we only focus to this moment , he was actually trying to get out. and Skyller was childsih asf by fucking T just walter becoming the mad one on the situation

What did Walt ever do that wasn't 100% his choice? He literally turned down an amazing job with great health care and then turned down free money to cover all his medical expenses. He didn't have to do any of this.
I don't think it's quite that easy, you have to consider his past with the project and how his 'friend' got to the point he is at on the back of Walt's work and ideas. At least I can see both sides, I understand how from Walt's perspective his honor is on the line, at the same time I do not agree with the other option he chose (going illegal). He could have confronted his partner earlier instead of letting that resentment grow in his heart over many years.
But imagine having that hurt and resentment towards a person in your heart, only to have him save your family in your last moments in life, dying with the knowledge that he did it with money and influence that he stole from you. You can still argue it's selfish of Walt to value his emotions and honor over his family's well-being in the future, but I think I understand his position as well.
Nothing to do with honour. It's about Walter's ego. Their studies in college were leading nowhere unfortunately so he sold his shares to cut his loses (didn't believe in himself). When introduced to Gretchen's rich family he felt inferior because he had spent his days living on yum-good ramen so he left her to maintain control of his ego. When they became more and more successful, Walt refused to re-enter business with them because he could not face having to essentially beg for them to give his shares back. He refuses their money because he sees it as stolen from his work (arguably is) despite him selling it. He checks their stocks every weekend to re-confirm his resentment of them.
He does all this before season 1 even started. All the way throughout the series Walter does almost everything to pad his pride and to suit his ego.

But no, he couldn't let go of his resentment and felt he needed to "earn" it, to prove he could provide all by himself, not thinking of caring about the dangers he was putting his family through.
Andres Castillo not to mention if you have seen the whole show, he admits he did it for himself, not his family. Not sure how anyone even argues about this anymore.

Also, let's be clear: the show never says that Walter is in the right. It never forces his views on you. It SHOWS everything from his point of view, but you're free to decide if his actions are right or wrong. So no one "forces" you to emphatize with Walt as some comments say, Skyler haters are just dumb. Especially since the show also shows everything from her point of view too.
The first time I watched I sided with Walt most of the time but the 2nd and now 3rd time I sided with Skyler most of the time. I started viewing the show as real life and realized hes an egomaniac and a power junkie who puts his family in danger by living with them. These episodes where he called skylers bluff and moves back in really piss me off because, he knows the danger of being a mass meth manufacturer and he should know moving in puts them in harm's way.
But Syler is very hypocrit and childish. She knows DEEP INSIDE THAT she has no choose , the future without walkt either would be A living in bare conditions almost beggining for money for all her friends and B marring some rich guy and relly on his "foundness over her" to pay for everything she and her kids need. now tell me how is that a future! She knows her husband pretty well and to think that he did that to get money for ALL main outgoings they will get in live is something honorable specially when he was about to die. and what she does? tells the lawyer, and fucks her boss just to "piss him off
@@dark3rthanshadows bro she has accounting experience, they would be fine without Walt. Maybe not living the life Walt is envisioning, but not begging on the streets, probably not even in poverty. This show is really good at gaslighting you into thinking money is as essential as air because that's the way Walt feels, but even killing Emilio and Domingo was not worth it.

Walt keeps telling Skyler it's for familly but she wasn't at all associates to this choice as "the familly", she actually doesn't want it, and found other options (like Elliot and Gretchen money offer, or even job offer), an option that he didn't take. As "the familly", she wanted and tried the Gray Matter option, and she wasn't asked meth cooking option, so she absolutely can't agree or feel that it's "for familly". While he was cooking meth, she was taking a job being late stage pregnant, and keeps working with her little baby, she made sacrifices too. The problem is the lie, it's not a choice for her, it's not something she agree, it's not "for her". The second she learns it, she wants to divorce and that's her very right. But she is stuck at this point, the house is not her, she has a baby to take care and a disabled teenager, and the point of the separation is to take the childeren away from Walt's business and so, keep them with her, where can she go? He won't even sign the divorce papers (at this stade). So what she's supposed to do? Technically she's married, but she asked divorced and in concrete she's separated, mad at Walt, and doesn't feel she's engaged anymore, that nuances a lot the "cheat" thing. Also, Walt plays with Junior, because he knows she won't snitch him to preserve him, he takes adventage of it and let his son think Skyler is moody for no reason, by sharing breakfast with them while obviousy Skyler doesn't want to share family moments with him. So when she says "I fuck Ted" to him just before dinner, I think she wants to give him a little of his own medicine, and wants to show him that she's not her hostage, and even if he doesn't let her go, the relation is still over.
Also, even if she doesn't know for the murders, she knows that one day police can burst into her house, turn it upside down, shame her family in press, seaze her stuff, traumatize kids, might be questioned, suspected be acomplice... This choice and its risks absolutely involves her life, and Walt made this decision without having her agreement, so she can't see it as "I did it for you"
For me she's stuck in the relation, wants to escape, and that's why she thinks this adventure with Ted can help feel better, the point is she's separated of Walt. But she doesn't know how to divorce, so she feels like a pawn with no agency stucked in a mariage she doesn't want anymore, and with Ted, she probably feels she takes a bit of independance and agency back.

For me personally it's better to tell the kids now rather than protecting them with false and confusing moral stance. Better not to seperate his identity as a father and criminal. Better to make your kids understand a criminal doesn't make a good parent.
I think the reason Walt's speech doesn't work on Skylar is that even though she doesn't know all the stuff we know as a viewer, she still has been married to him for years and I think she can sense when he's being truly sincere. Not that I think he doesn't want to provide for his family, but it's not the full truth and I think she can sense it.
Skylar told Walt effectively, that as far as she is concerned, they are no longer in a relationship. That scene where he breaks in, that is some seriously crazy abusive behavior. He's been gaslighting her constantly.

I find it kinda funny how Hanna's wearing a lot of yellow since the episode where jane dies. I dunno if it's on purpose but it's a cool coincidence, especially consodering she was the one that pointed out yellow being jane's color.
"He did what he had to do" doesn't really work here. Its true that she doesn't know anything about his business beyond Walt making meth, but she does know that Gretchen and Elliot offered to pay for his cancer treatment, so he didn't "do what he had to do," he did what he wanted to do.
As for Skyler having sex with Ted.. Its not right in the sense that I think she is only doing it as a method of pushing Walt away,, but she has made it clear to him that she wants a divorce. Is it cheating if she's made it clear that she wants to separate, and the only reason they haven't is he won't sign the divorce papers?

Just in the PREVIOUS EPISODE, two psycho hit-men ENTERED HIS HOUSE! What if his family was home? They'd be DEAD! The only reason Walt isn't dead right now is because Gus needs him! And it's not like Gus is a totally chill guy. He's a criminal mastermind, too, and will get rid of Walt the moment he no longer needs him!
Walt has brought about more danger than necessary on not just himself, but his whole family! Not to mention all the lies and psychological abuse he dishes out on a daily basis! And this is just season three! The worst is yet to come!
Well....we've seen the entire arc of the characters from beginning to finale, Normies are reacting just as most people did when they watched it. We have the benefit of full hindsight. Many fans were still heavily in favor of Walt's character at this point, and even until maybe s4 and 5 when shit really hits the fan. I mean just look at these comments that still have fans justifying Walt's motives...and hte amount of shit Skylar still gets

oh god everytime i see that scene with the sweet old lady i feel really sorry for her .
I mean we can't forget Skyler was pretty damn generous when she initially promised her silence in exchange for divorce papers. But as Walt further descends down the rabbit hole, he has continued to lie to her, has now INVOLVED her in his lies which legally now makes her an accessory. She was pushed and pushed and pushed so far into that corner, and finally lashed out. Of course it was wrong. But it was understandable. And we can't pretend that was she did had some sort of moral equivalence to Walt's transgressions. My heart just breaks for Skyler.
I've always been confused by those saying Skylar cheated (not you guys). Like she tried to divorce him and has made it clear she wants him gone, she only isn't turning him in for the sake of her kids. She made it clear their relationship was done and slept with Ted to spite Walter who wouldn't leave her alone

Unfortunately, viewers are dumb as shit and continue to excuse Walts actions despite the fact that he starts doing things that are unjustifiable. Its really funny almost lmaooo but I don’t blame the writers because people who legitimately understand the show know what they were trying to do. Although the great thing about Breaking Bad is that you can 100% enjoy it at its surface level story. Which is a dude becoming a drug lord.
Further down the episodes walter signs those divorce papers but skylar doesn't. Because the greedy demon in her woke up.
Skyler telling Walt she fucked Ted is the only way she has left to hold him accountable for his shit. She forces him into the atmosphere he's determined to force onto all of them scot free. It's Skyler's reaction to Walt's duffel bag of money. "This is the result of my mistake, and we're all going to live with it."

Wanting a divorce, being denied one, and then cheating is not the same as conventional cheating, in my eyes. I would not personally feel grateful for money gained from the suffering of drug addicts; that also come with a mountain of risks that could backfire at any moment. All while remembering that their money issues could have been fixed legally with Walt's former friends who were more then willing to give him a well paying job.
What Skylar did was wrong. What Skylar knows Walt has done is still so much worse, even without adding the stuff she doesn't know about.

I wouldnt even say Skylar is wrong. For all intents and purposes, they broke up. Just because Walt legally holds her hostage with the divorce situation it doesnt mean that Skylar shouldnt be allowed her own sex life.

A relationship is over the moment one party tells the other that its over. Just because there are still legal strings attached, it doesnt mean the relationship is still alive.
Forget the drug dealing and all the lies and everything - him denying her any space or separation period was what really backed her into a corner. You give your partner space when they need it - not double down and act like things will go on as per usual. What she did was, I'd say, twenty times more human than most of the things Walt has done, not twenty times worse.

I really can't wrap up how many people misunderstand Skyler. I think she is one of most tragic figures in Breaking Bad along with Jesse.
For me I just feel bad for Jesse and this the start of his heartbreaking story 💔
Its definitely horrible what happens to her, but I dislike her from the get go, she was a controlling wife that never made her husband feel like a man. The first season shows this even before Walt is heavy into his illegal operations.
yeah, have a son with cerebral palsy but still smoke while pregnant and after giving birth. So tragic.
What she did to Walt and Ted in this episode is really scummy, though. She exploited Ted's love for her just to spite Walt, and it's not the way you prove your moral superiority to Walter. I do sympathize with her situation however. But it does not justify all of her actions.

Yeah sorry Nahid, I'm with Hannah on the Sky thing. He's endangering his family, Sky has her children to think about and she also does not have morals as flexible as Walt's. She's been gaslighted and denied a divorce so she's retaliating so Walt consents. You absolutely cannot say that Sky cheating is worse than Walt's murdering and drug dealings. That's just... wack. It's like we're ok with heavy violence but not ok with sex. It's understandable bcus the show makes Walt somewhat likable by showing everything through his perspective but bottom line is Walt is an asshole who deserves it.
What Skyler did is has bad as what Walt simply by the reasoning behind it. Skyler cheated to get back at Walt (negative reason). While Walt did everything FOR his family (positive reason)
You are only evaluating their actions at face value, you are not evaluating the motives of said actions. Walt has Skyler on motive. All of his actions are prefaced with the fact that he has cancer and is expected to die, so he will no longer be able to provide for his family. He is completely loyal to Skyler and the family, and was willing to do evil things to ensure his family's prosperity. Skyler on the other hand is smoking while pregnant and around their newborn, fucking her boss, and trying to kick Walt out of his own house; completely disloyal to the family just to spite Walt. The risks and magnitude of Walt's actions are far greater, but have done nothing yet to hurt the family, they have actually provided a ton of wealth. Skyler's go-to was to immediately break up the family and to only offer ultimatums to Walt, to leave the family after he risked so much to provide for it. Compromise is the key to any relationship, but Skyler refuses to compromise. The only options she had were to sit down and work out a plan with Walt, or turn him in. Walt is playing the game(high risk high reward), Skyler is playing games(fucking around). Neither of them are in the right. That's the whole point, no one is absolutely good, everyone is capable of evil things.
It's pretty simple
Walt commited bad acts but had good intentions
Skylar commited a bad act that had bad intentions
That's enough for me. I don't care about the 1000s of people being killed by walt's drugs because I don't know them or their story

@AJ you must still be young or not married. Life is tough, people grow apart. Sometimes they turn into murderous drug manufacturers that refuse to give you a divorce and hold you hostage in your own marriage. If she had done it before she asked for the divorce and he refused, then I'd be right there with ya but she did it after he made it clear her wasn't going to let her go anywhere. She had to do something to gain some autonomy and control back.

Think about it like McDonald's. There is an overarching company (the cartel) and individual franchises (Gus). Gus happens to own all the McDonald's in New Mexico. Hector owned a bunch of restaurants in Mexico before he was incapacitated. The twins and Tuco are his nephews. Tuco came to the US and was working in Gus's territory. Walt supplies the french fries. Remember, too, that Gus distributed Walt's french fries throughout the southwest. Remember, too, that Gus offered Walt $3 million. Imagine how much he was making off that transaction. It's in the interest of both Gus and the cartel to work with Walt. Hector and the Twins just want blood.

As far as Skyler is concerned, she has every right to go hook up with whoever. She really has no obligation to hold to any sort of monogamous relationship with Walt. Her only actual reason for staying around after Walt refused to honor her wish for a divorce, is to essentially pretend that things are OK for the sake of family. She has every right to maintain appearances for whatever reason but she also has no obligation to that stance, or to satisfy any of Walt's ego, or anything.
Her sleeping with Ted and then telling Walt is to say that he can try to construct whatever reality he wants, and that she will go along with this fucked up situation out of sheer pragmatism, but for her, the relationship was essentially over when she filed for divorce; and he can do whatever he wants for family but he ruined the bond between them to do so and has to live with those consequences.
Pragmatically she too has to live with the consequences and who knows what retaliation: but she is banking on the fact that he will not disturb the surface status quo any more than she will as the hill they will both I've and die on. I can't hate her for any of it because Walt deserves nothing better at this point

I am really surprised how people think Skyler is a bitch for F.T, but walt is a great man even though he's the one refusing to leave the house, he won't even leave the bed. The only reason he's doing this is because he knows she's not gonna tell the police. So Skyler is left with 2 options : live with Walt or tell the police. Since she's not going to tell the police, she found another option to feel free. At least now, Walt will stop acting like everything is normal.

yeah man, he maintains all along that he's doing it for the family, yet in the first few episodes the family wants walt to do the cancer treatment and he completely ignores them and says no anyway (yeah he changes his mind later but still.) This is all about Walt's pride and personal redemption and nothing to do with his family.

The show does a good job of portraying Walt in a good light. But honestly I agree with Hannah. Objectively, Skylar doesn’t have a way out. He dumped all this on her and wants her to accept him. She doesn’t want to but she also can’t report him to the police for her family. So she wants a divorce to get away but HE doesn’t sign it. She’s trapped and her options are limited so what the next best thing? She hurts him by sleeping with her boss. Is it wrong? Yes. Did it hurt Walt? Yes. But it was the only decision that ONLY hurt Walt and kept her family safe. It was her last of many options because he took those away from her already
Truthfully, I hated Skylar in my first viewing of this show too. But when you take the emotion away and re-evaluate, it makes sense!!

Taking emotion away though should still bring to light the needless risk of pissing off dangerous drug lord husband by bragging about spite sex especially with the kids and friend nearby. At best it would have no bearing on her family's safety (it's not like rivals would stop exploiting potential relations after this kind of fallout, assuming they'd even know), and at worst if Heisenberg had gone full psycho she would've only succeeded in provoking a violent escalation.

13:29 actually being in 5th year of medical school myself and having passed my pediatrics exam I can tell you that even smoking outside is bad for the baby and everybody in the house. The toxic components stick to your hair, your clothes and your skin and are still harmful for everybody you will meet or get close to. Smoking outside is obviously already a better habit than smoking indoors, but that’s still harmful to everybody and especially babies.
