    This size car would have been perfectly acceptable a few years ago and still should be if we look at what space we actually need day to day

      The problem is the existing Yaris crossover which is in the fiesta/polo class. Considering its small size, an EV would be more ideal or the hybrid. Assuming most will be petrol sales, the lack of ev power is not great. Maybe its aimed at rural townfolk? Ultra small cars never sold much in Europe (think smartcar/aygo/vw up/skoda citgo/twingo. Might sell well in India/africa

    I love how fun it is. I love the two tone paint. I’d say a competitor is a Dacia Sandero Stepway. However, the Aygo X is much more youthful.

      Even they had a few problems. Water leaking through the back window. Window handles coming off. The parcel shelf bowing. I wouldn’t mind a clean, well designed car to take me around town. I’m thinking about it.

    • @micheals1992
      @micheals1992 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@antoniopodesta8738 the water leak in the back is quite a quick easy fix. Personally I just replaced the seal in the brake light bar. I think the only other thing I've had a problem with is the exhaust systems tendancy to rust, I've just fitted the 3rd exhaust but this time coated it all in an anti-corrosion high temp exhaust paint and it seems to have done the trick externally. The exhaust system is cheap though, you can replace the centre pipe and muffler for less then £100. Not had any issues with the CAT yet. bought it with 10,000 miles and now at 93,800 miles on the clock and not really had any major issues. Still on the original clutch too (although it's a 2012 model with the upgrade clutch, plus there's a recall for the old clutch to get a free replacement upgraded clutch).

      @antoniopodesta8738 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@micheals1992 Thanks for the reply. I like the idea of having a cheap reliable city car. To think you’ve got 93,000 miles on the clock with no major problems is very encouraging. Again thanks for the reply.

    • @micheals1992
      @micheals1992 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@antoniopodesta8738 95,500 now. I think the engine will last over 200,000 miles with good maintenance. (Like Oil & oil filter changes every 5,000 miles and then air filter, coolant and spark plugs at the specified intervals). I may change the timing chain if the car gets to 150,000 miles with no issues.
      I reckon there's a high risk these cars will rust as the paintwork isn't the best quality which is why I get under the car once a year, clean it and apply an underbody waxoyl sealant paint in any areas that look like they have early signs of rust and areas where paint has been chipped off.

    I had a 2019 Aygo with that same engine - I loved it. Huge fun little thing. Just the two of us and we have another car. We permanently lowered the back seats, and it became the car for carrying a greyhound and a Terrier - no problem at all. Great fun to drive and, of course, completely faultless and very cheap to run. Dealerships faultless too.
    Changed it for ‘something a bit bigger.’ Have a Citroën C3 Aircross now - on a PCP agreement. Again a lovely car to drive and be in and, because we don’t drop the back seats, the dogs actually have less room! Another, so far - 14 months, faultless car. 3 cylinder engine too which I like.
    You know what though? I miss the Aygo and it’s ‘honesty’.
    This looks like a really good little car and looks well worth thinking about.
    Another honest and refreshing car review.

    • @nothingmuch.3014
      @nothingmuch.3014 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those 3 cylinder PSA puretechs are a bad engine long term.
      Wet timing belt, with a very long replacement interval. Over time, chucks break off & block up the oil strainer. This starves the engine of oil & could end in catastrophe if not caught.
      The problem is exasperated by using the wrong oil or engine flushes

    There's probably better enforcement of driving standards in Spain than in Britain. I liked smaller cars, especially Fiats which I looked forward to driving as so much fun, but after being deliberately tailgated at speed on 3 occasions, by idiots in big suvs and once a livestock artic, when coming back from a country restaurant with a friend at night, at over 50 on a country road, I changed to an older Mercedes, purely for self preservation, had front and rear cameras fitted at Halfords. I like the car, but regret having to lose my Punto which I'd had from new and suited me perfectly. A friend has got a civilian Hummer on lpg, maybe that's the next step in this lawless situation! Personally I wish we all had Fiat 500s or Aygos, what a pleasant friendly experience motoring would be, but people's egos won't allow. Good to see a new small car with a proper engine though.

    Great down to earth review, and Toyota should be applauded for designing and manufacturing a European only City Car in LHD & RHD.
    As an older driver whose next car will likely be their last, it is great to have an alternative to the Suzuki Ignis / Swift or Dacia Sandero / Sandero Stepway which like the AygoX utilises a circa 2016 platform, anything else offered in the UK 15-20K bracket is old and end of life.
    Regarding the engine, though the Engine Family has different configurations in other markets the cost of updating the Poland Engine Plant as well as making these engines Euro7 is not cost effective.
    Regarding the lack of back seat space, it is no worse than a Yaris from 20 years ago, and it must be accepted that most of these city cars rarely have full occupancy.
    So in a nutshell a great little city car which is not only fit for purpose but with the Toyota bullet proof reputation will see out 20 year of low mileage poodling about.

      Aygo X has lost its way. It's no longer a simple, light, nippy, cheap car.
      Why they felt the need to turn a car the size of a matchbox into a crossover, idk. And the wheels are ridiculous.
      2× the price of the original Aygo. The 18" wheels use odd size very expensive tyres. Too much electrical bs to go wrong. Yes, the engine is proven reliable, but the car is too heavy for acceptable performance.

    HI Bob, brilliant honest review from someone who understands small sensible vehicles.. Exactly - why buy a large truck sized car for 2 people, what's the point? Unless you want to pointlessly keep up with the car on the neighbours driveway? Very good remark about small and underpowered being fun to drive, especially with this engine - which is super characterful. So many have reviewed this car and unfortunately don't get it, I assume because they're used to driving Land Rovers and suchlike. You, Bex, Richard Fanders, Autogefuhl, definitely did get it, plus a few selected others, Me too. I have one on order. Cheers! 😀👍

    As a huge fan of the original Aygo I really don't like this car. I don't really like big cars though, unless by being big they've managed to get an exceptionally low drag coefficient.
    In terms of Co2 emissions and fuel economy this car is a massive step backwards for Toyota, considering the Latest Aygo puts out 95g of co2 and this car puts out about 120g co2. I can't imagine the average driver getting much more then 40mpg in this car. It's rated for ~56mpg. The old Aygo was rated for ~64-68mpg and got a realmpg (user submitted) score of 55mpg. I drive the 2012 Toyota Aygo fire and use Fuelly to track fuel use and it has averaged 69.4mpg over 80,000 miles. My best tanks are in the 77-80mpg range. The Aygo was the car that convinced me that you don't need a diesel to get good fuel economy, it also made me realise how inefficient traditional hybrids are. No hybrids other then plug-in hybrids beat the Aygo on fuel economy, oh and the original Honda insight (which was a 5 speed manual with a 1L electric assist engine, the flywheel doubled up as an electric motor. The insight was quite capable of getting over 100mpg)

Its small inside, in the back seat area. Not a fan of the retro oval-shaped infotainment System. Its trying too hard to look like a Mini,only cheaply made, with hard plastics but costs a premium. Some models are £20.000. Cheper models start near £16.500. A City Car should not cost as much.
