Hmm ... well let's break this down. Nancy McKeon is obviously "Dorothy", Lisa Welch would play "Blanche", Kim Fields would make the perfect ditzy "Rose" . Mindy Cohen as Sophia, and she wouldn't even have to go thru hrs. of makeup to look very old (like Estelle Getty did!

When Mindy says that "a couple of people can't get past" what Lisa did, it sounds like she is the only one who can't seem to get past it. She has made it a point of calling Lisa out on interview after interview, meanwhile, Kim and Nancy haven't even talked about it.
Apparently she can't get on with her life. To still obsess about a 70's sitcom to this day is just plain pathetic. Let go of the jealousy and move on. Natalie and Tootie were my least favorite characters anyway.

Every time I see Natalie (Mindy) all I can think about is when she wore the lightning bolt hat and Tootie was doing word association with her and she said "AU give me back my watch (gold)". God it was over 40 years ago and still can't get that out of my head.

Don't feel bad. I was watching my neighbor's old, old, OLD dog hobble around his backyard, throwing up and pooping, for about 20 minutes. It’s Lisa. She was the original star, she was going to get her own spinoff in 1988. She aged the best. And Kim Fields is always working.
Ya got to be atp. Kim hasnt stopped working & very recently all over each others social media in very loving ways, 'seems' real friggin deal. Nancy too. Take it over leave it but not 'greedy'. Lisa def comes across very sweet & humble too on the surface but outta ALL of them could see it being the least legit. Plus, she knows she's held up the best, hears it all the time & likely still wanting that show she almost got in 1988 but didn't get picked up. And, ya, DEF needs the money I'm sure.

I hate that it's any one them but my suspicion is that it's Lisa. I think she's tried to make a comeback after a divorce that has left her in some financial need. This may be a controversial take, but Blair was often the center of the storylines and, when not, was a scene stealer. Even though it was an ensemble cast, there's always a character who sticks out. Lisa probably thought they could build a show just around her.
So Go.d will provide….but not enough.

Most likely Lisa. I remember watching that TFOL live and everyone on twitter was asking why it seemed Kim & Lisa had beef and you could feel a chill in the air with them during the show. I am guessing there was already tension there, even before the reboot came up.

Loved that show. Watched it with my kids. My son, when he was a baby, would sit at the TV just to listen to the theme song.
What’s wild is that the actor who played Blair’s dad (we all know this is about Lisa!) played the probated judge in Palm Royale. Nicolas Coster’s last listed acting credit before his death.
For what it’s worth Palm Royale is a delight and almost every episode of Facts of Life holds tf up.
This is like a family argument. They'll be back together again. Just talk it out and forgive her. People aren't perfect. Maybe there is more to the story. Lisa needs to tell her side. Maybe, there's a big misunderstanding or not. Maybe Lisa did make a big mistake and needs to apologize. We love you guys. Just try your best to work it out.

That's what I was thinking that there was more to the story. And why would Mindy wait until now to accuse someone of doing this. How do they know Lisa did this? I think Lisa knows that it takes the 4 of them to make this reunion happen. Besides I don't think a reboot would work with Charlotte Rae and Cloris Leachman being gone.
Exactly. Lisa hasn't acted in quite a while so if she was going to do this, why wouldn't she be compensated for it? She may have done a "Kim Katrall" when it came to this reboot. Personally, these reboots don't do very well, despite the fan interest. It takes special writing to pick up the storylines, and just like SATC, Facts had at least two to three movies.
No, it isn't "just a family argument". Lisa Whelchel is a grown-ass adult who deliberately set out to get her own show while deliberately shutting the others. That is the "other side" of the story; no matter what justifications she has for doing this skeevy thing doesn't change the fact that she did a skeevy thing. The very fact that she even tried to do that shows that she feels zero loyalty to the others, so why should they trust her again?
It's Lisa Whelchel! Her instagram photos are none of her hanging out with them as Mindy's instagram shows hanging with Fields and McKeon. Just reboot without her and have her in London hanging with Samantha from Sex in the City (AJLT 3 seasons & its going strong). Have & add Molly Ringwald and others as new/old characters.

Some time ago, Lisa wrote a book about how she had a breakthrough when she learned she didn't have to smile all the time, etc. Years later she was on Survivor and staged a big "breakthrough" where she said she'd learned she didn't have to smile all the time, etc. She also wrote a parental advice book about how to get your children to behave using harsh treatment and public humiliation. She's not the person she played on TV.
I remember that. She said she would "hot sauce" her kids when they acted out.
She's in 100% actress mode, like Marie Osmond. Nothing is real about them.

It's Lisa. But just to put this out there. The last two episodes of Facts of life was set up to be a spin off of Blair (Lisa) buying Eastland and becoming the head mistress. This never got beyond the two episodes (btw featuring a very young Mayim Bialik and Juilette Lewis) maybe Lisa was trying to go that route of storyline again. But again, no one knows for sure, except those 4 actresses.

To be fair, while what Lisa did was worse, Mindy is living in her own glass house. When she was pitching for her own show as FOL drew to a close, she insisted that no references be made to FOL, there would be no guest appearances by FOL cast members, and she even suggested the dropping of the name "Natalie Green". Clearly, she was looking for a complete break. The network retaliated by not picking up the show, and Mindy retaliated by making only a cameo appearance by way of telephone in the final FOL episode. She was not even in the climactic final scene. (Which was not all that climactic).
I don’t see anything Lisa did was wrong. She probably wants something based around her beliefs. She wanted something for herself like the other girls. Nothing wrong with that. I doubt Lisa was saying “i don’t want to work with them”. It sounds like Mindy just loves to be mad.

@@Kiss_lynda You may be right about that. There was talk that the reboot was going to be something like another "Golden Girls". And that would have meant a bunch of older women going through a series of sexual partners while trying to act and live like a bunch of youngsters. (Which is why I would never live in Florida, it is really like that down there). That would have been too much for Lisa, though in this day and age, I am not sure a completely "wholesome" reboot would have lasted all that long. Reboots never work, anyway (just look at "Frasier"), so FOL is better off left as a cherished memory.
Is this coming from the same woman who was given a chance to do 1 more season of series but decided against it along with Nancy Mckeon? Season 10 would have ended the series on the right foot. Mrs. Garrett said that she would be back from the Peace Corps after 2 years, Charlotte Rae could have been asked back to help give the series a definitive closure but we will never know. The same woman that distanced herself from the cast and wanted to do other projects before the show was canceled. Now, the same woman who said that the cast was ready for a reboot but 1 cast member hindered the project. They all seem nice from a far but no one really knows when it comes to money. It’s best to let it stay in the past.

I thought the NBC Execs themselves cancelled the series since the ratings were plummeting? When Lisa and Nancy found that out, they decided to bail. It was getting pretty lame and long-in-the-tooth by that point. I mean, the only thing that sorta saved it towards the end was the storyline of Natalie losing her virginity.

She said Brandon Tartikoff went to the cast and offered them a chance to do 1 more Season of the show, which would be Season 10. She and another girl “Nancy Mckeon”, voted against it. It doesn’t matter now, if they were dead set against it back then, why do they care about a reboot? Season 10 would have given the show a proper closure, even half a season would be better than none.

@@gereminguyen4923 I had never heard that story before. The story I had always heard about the show coming to an end in 1988 was because the plan to pull a Mayberry RFD/Archie Bunker's Place on the show fell through with Lisa Whelchel's marriage.
Mindy said it was "one of the other girls." So yeah, definitely George Clooney is the one that tanked the reboot. 😏

Long time FOL fan here... and bitter betty. The real irony here is that when Facts of Life ended, Ms. Cohn gave an interview with TV Guide where she stated that she initiated a pact among the girls to never do a reboot or reunion of the show. However in 2001, money got flashed, and Cohn herself became a "greedy bitch" choosing to be one of 3 that signed on for a terrible Facts of Life TV Reunion movie. (Nancy McKeon was the only one that through the years has held true to not revisiting the show via a reboot or reunion movie - she's been very wise about it.) But lets be real - Cohn, and her character, were never a standout of the show to begin with. Outside of the "very special episode" in the final season, and a couple "dramatic" episodes peppered through the 9 year run, the character Natalie never had a long-standing or memorable story arc. Cohn's acting was self-admittedly sub-par when compared to the others (especially in the first 3 or 4 "Eastland" seasons where the camera had to pan away from her because she would often break character or laugh at her own delivery of lines.) Its apparent, from virtually every interview she has given over the past 40 years, that she's always yearned for a glamourous Hollywood career. She's very much "Look who I know, look who I hung out with in the '80's." But her career since FOL has been just a series of guest spots on a show here and there - including the recent background character in the Palm Royale streaming show. I mean, seriously, Voicing Velma in a Scooby Doo cartoon reboot didn't quite earn her that oscar, now did it? Bottom line, she's got as many issues as whomever she is alluding to in this gossip session. Would I be mad if a friend tried to undercut me on a deal? Absolutely furious. But frankly, I'm utterly disappointed by her apparent cattiness and ignorance to her legacy on the show. She'll never again achieve the success she had being on FOL. But rather than protect that, she stooped to today's "Lets say something salacious and trashy about a former costar and play coy about it to make headlines." At nearly 60 years old, she should have been mature and resolute enough to recognize that millions of us grew up loving that show and hold those "girls" close in our hearts. A real shame. But then again, maybe this is all a ruse and the actresses concocted a publicity stunt to get millions of hits on social media? Who knows what the actual "facts" are. Nothing would surprise me these days. She's probably just vying for Kim Richards old spot on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. All I know is, from now on when I watch FOL re-runs, my enjoyment will be dimmed by this crappy dark cloud. Bad move Cohn.

No doubt in my mind that it is Lisa - there was a really weird vibe when the live Facts aired; Lisa did the theme song and when Mindy & Kim come out they looked very uncomfortable. Nancy has never struck me as someone who puts up w/any BS and stays out of the Limelight as much as possible. When TV Land Honored the show/cast w/a tribute some years back, I was very surprised, but happy, to see her there.

Its likely Lisa. I can only guess because she felt she was passed over for the spinoff she was supposed to get when Facts of Life originally went off the air. The final two episodes of "Facts" were set up where Blair had purchased the Eastland school and made it co-ed. Mayim Bialik, Seth Green, and Juliette Lewis played some of the kids who probably would've carried over to the spinoff.
Also, Mindy herself was intended to be in another 'Facts of Life' spinoff that never went forward. Also in the last season Natalie moved out of the house and into an apartment in NYC where she shared space with multiple roommates, which included Richard Grieco and David Spade as part of the cast. It kinda played like "Friends" long before it was created. What seemed obvious is that David Spade was clearly set up to be the breakout star of that ensemble because all the great lines seemed to go to him. He came off like an imitation Michael J. Fox who at the time was NBC's biggest star.
Plus, she seemed to be the one everyone was talking about - “she hasn’t aged a bit”, etc - after the live show, where she sang the theme song in a Eastland school uniform.

Like it or not - and I’ll bet Mindy doesn’t - Lisa was the star of the show. And as much as Mindy wants to be queen hag, it’s always been Blair / Lisa that the gays die for. When it comes to the Facts of Life, Lisa is the queen. And Mindy knows it. I just went down a rabbit hole when I heard about this drama, and Mindy is trashing Lisa whenever the subject comes up. Going as far as to say that Lisa does not have the chops to act anymore. Which coming from Mindy, is insane. This grudge is a very bad look for her.
Mindy has not really done all that much. Mindy shouldn’t have said this. I’d like to hear Lisa’s side. Mindy said on another podcast from a few months ago that the reboot that was presented to them wasn’t right and they all agreed it wasn’t right.
She’s always saying something and it’s always a different story, who knows what really happened.

Exactly. There’s another podcast here on TH-cam Mindy did a few months ago and she goes into more detail but she did say what was presented to them about the reboot none of them liked and possibly that’s when Lisa asked to maybe do a show with just Blair.
It's a problem if four people are trying to get a reboot of a show but behind the scenes one of them is trying to get her own show that's duplicitous and if you can't see that then you have a problem.

It's hard to tell because in the last season there were two storylines that were intended to be a spinoff. One had to do with Natalie and Tootie went to Buffalo, NY to visit Tootie's aunt. The other one was when Blair bought Eastland and became the headmaster.

Okay, there is a picture of Mindy, Kim, and Nancy in 2022. The negotiations or talks happened in 2021. In 2022, they were attending Norman Lear's 100th birthday celebration. If it was Kim or Nancy, she would not have called them family at that time because the pain was still very recent. Yes, they were on the Drew show without Kim, but she did say they talk now but one can't get over it. Maybe Kim did not show because she still can't get over the betrayal from Lisa.
She said the person was desperate for fame and money. Honey, Kim is not desperate for either. She has them both. She specifically stated it was not about who she is or is not following, it is who she's hanging out with. Although this interview is recent, at the time of the separation, Lisa was not in any posts. She also stated she had booked Palm Royal and another girl is working. Now, the first show for Palm Royal aired in 2024. Kim has been working on The Upshaws since 2021. Wasn't the talks happening in 2021? Why would Kim leave a show that she knows is working for something that may not work? Kim had no reason to try to negotiate a separate show.
Look at all of the clues she gave, it points to Lisa. The only reason people are not saying Nancy is because of the picture with them in 2022. But, if you think about it, Lisa, Mindy, and Kim are working. Why is no one looking at Nancy?

So with the idea out there, she would probably have wanted that for Blair.

I figured it was Lisa Welchel. Over the years, Blair has remained/become the fan favorite. She was probably trying to leverage that...I could see Mindy Cohen and Nancy McKeon happy to revisit and and expand on their characters. Kim Fields is constantly working and has the highest profile.

The thing is Lisa Whelchel got the best received by being ageless so she probably figured she was entitled to her own spin off. She’s probably in the best position to get her own spin off anyway, but all things considered. I’m glad that this reboot didn’t happen because it wasn’t needed.
Lisa is 60. She's not going to ever get a solo show no matter how well she's aged. If she couldn't get a spinoff back in the day, she's definitely not getting one now.

It's got to be Kim because she is nowhere on Mindy's IG feed and she wasn't on Drew Barrymore's show w/ Monday, Lisa and Nancy. Also, Kim is a show biz veteran, so she could have reasonably been wanting to secure work for the future, stemming from a 'Facts of Life' reunion. We don't know what exactly went down but I love, love, love Mindy and don't doubt what she's saying.
Go watch the video of the 3 on the Drew Barrymore Show as I think it’s very telling, especially after seeing/hearing this. When the 3 are introduced and come out, Lisa is walking out ahead of the other 2 by herself. Then, the only interaction she has with Mindy is when Mindy points to Lisa where to sit, and Mindy sits as far as she can from Lisa. While Nancy does look at Lisa, from time to time, when answering Drew’s questions or listening to Lisa, they do not seem close but almost formal-like. I didn’t see it when I first saw the show, but now that I’ve watched it again, knowing what Mindy said, I could definitely see the tension. Kim wasn’t there, maybe she is the one Mindy said was having a difficult time getting pass it.

True, Lisa could have handled it differently, but one must also remember that she is the one cast member who has been the most devoted to the show. She originally was tagged to star in the spinoff as the new headmistress of Eastland, but the network failed to pick it up. Mindy and Nancy made it clear that they wanted no more of FOL after Season 9, and Kim was about ready to bail as well. Nancy did not even appear in the reunion movie. It would be Lisa who kept the FOL legacy alive with commercials, interviews, variety show appearances and so forth. Now that the other three women are basically out of commission, they suddenly were interested in a reboot?

They had a reunion on the Drew Barrymore show. Mindy, Nancy and Lisa were there. Kim was not. Most of the photos Mindy is talking about are from a while ago. The reunion is from February.
Taking a clue from the instagram - Mindy, Nancy and Kim hang outside of "events". Lisa is not among them. One photo describes on Mindy's account states: "Family" and is Mindy, Nancy and Kim.
