I saw 'Blair' at the First Baptist Church in West Palm Beach Florida 30 years ago. What a beautiful woman inside and out. Sang wonderfully and walked all through the isles. I had a great time that evening.
"Save your money, I Just like food!" - too right, Lisa! She always was, and still is absolutely gorgeous, good for her for standing up for herself. Blair and Tootie were my favourite characters :)
I remember her dad hiding a sandwich by the igloo....Lisa would sneak a bite. It was sad to see her hungry...but we did giggle a lot that G didn't catch us.lol they were on her to lose weight...it was unfair.
The fact that the character Natalie Green always was smiling was what made her character likeable. The producers may not have realize that was part of the charm of that character. She was like the funny friend that everyone wants to pal around with...

It could be that Mindy was too closely associated with her role as Natalie; sometimes when an actor becomes really famous for playing a certain part, audiences (and more importantly, directors & producers) just can't see that actor doing anytithing else. I'm sure it didn't help that Mindy had no track record before playing Natalie Green, so her agents couldn't point to her having successfully played a character who was a true 180 from her network TV debut. So, Mindy did some guest appearances on other shows, some recurring TV work & some minor films, but she never found a role that spoke to audiences the way "Natalie" did, and so Mindy hasn't found success anywhere close to the way she did when she was a teenager & was chosen for a co-starring role without ever trying to get cast on TV (much less trying to get cast on a long-running network-TV hit that succeeded far beyond creators' hopes, never mind their expectations... I only saw "The Facts of Life" when it was in sybdicated re-runs, playing every afternoon when I came home from elementary school. I don't know if it's because I'm from New York and my cousin Elizabeth looks so much like Mindy that they could have been sisters during Mindy's first seasons on the show, or if it's that Mindy always looked like she was having so much fun playing Natalie, but if Mindy had left the cast for some reason (regardless of whether she had left by choice or been fired), withour Mindy Cohn on the show I simply would not have kept watching TFoL. So, I'm glad that Mindy remained a regular cast member for the entire series, and I watched the show in syndication every day after school until my HS schedule stopped allowing it, at which point I left for college and - thanks to having no TV in my dorm and having a schedule that allowed nothing but classwork and rehearsals for my own performances on weekday afternoons - I said goodbye forever to my afternoon-TV habit. OneLoveRSR she was such a positive character i could def understand being friends with her but on the other hand her naivety/borderline stupidity by today’s standards, which was obviously charming back then, would be unbearably annoying today! But that said, the entire cast of characters on the show had a super corny sense of humor! - which you watch now and you have to roll your eyes and/or change the channel.
Nope. Nothing wrong with that at all. These women are very charismatic and their personalities are magnetic and that really pulls people towards them. 🌞
I always assumed that it was Mindy's acting style to be as bubbly as she turned out It played into her fun-loving attitude and sense of humor. Let's face it...Mindy is a hoot, and a holler and a riot!
I loved this show when I was growing up. I love all of the actresses and characters, but Kim was the first Black girl I saw on TV, and it made me feel good to see someone who looked like me and loved her roller skates as much as I loved mine.
Sabrina Estrada I laughed when Kim Fields said she broke down the door for blacks. She must have forgotten the show they spun off from(Different Strokes),What's Happening,Good Times,Sanford & Son,ect
joe blow Other than Diff'rent Strokes, which had adopted black boys living with a white family, all the other shows you named were Black shows with an all black cast and majority of them were "poor". "Tootie" was a Black girl at a private school with a lot of non-blacks, and JO was the scholarship student. So clearly "Tootie's" family was affluent. (New door opened)

9EvilHater9 OLD SKOOL Def one of my favorite episodes! Love the classic turn Jo & Blair do in the hall. Nat sees Tootie being questioned by Ms.G &, the three jet outta there so fast! Hilarious! (Nat is around hall corner but, is then thrown in front on return to Ms.G calling them back)
I met the Nancy who played Joe on facts of life and i had a great conversation with her and she was the nicest celebrity I have ever encountered in all my life of being around celebrities cause of my fathers career, She was humble and had a great personality. I loved all these shows in the 70's and 80's
It's a shame that Kim went on the RHWOA and the way they treated her. She loved her career and her children, Kenya was the worst of all to her. Just jealous ALL ladies from this show was a class act! Blessings
@@schewitt1977 I just felt bad about her treatment. It's a cut throat show. Kim Fields has nothing but grace and manners in my opinion. It's just a pity seeing how great the friendship was between all these women were and as adults the women from the HW show didn't give Kim a fair chance. In my opinion. I really enjoyed seeing the video. Reminded me of my youth so much. It was a good Sunday thing to see! Blessings
Facts of Life was one of my all time favorite sitcoms. It wasn’t Shakespeare, but it was a delightful show, and the chemistry among the four girls was terrific. The female bond is so strong, especially when you grow up together as these girls did. The show will always have a special place on my heart.
As a teenager,Id write letters to Lisa and then she'd write back to me. I still have the letter!!! Came to my house in 1981. Then after the show got real popular,her Grandmother {Velma French} used to write to me every so often.{Also have some of those letters.....somewhere,plus small b/w's of Lisa....signed.}
Mindy Cohn has since become the voice of Velma in the newer "Scooby-Doo" projects. She comes the closest (and I mean closest) to the original voice of Velma, Nicole Jaffe.
Liberalguy your name says it all Liberals advocate the slaughter of the unborn and call it Healthcare so who the hell are you to condemn Lisa marriages are hard she tried you can't make something work if its not working for the other person in the marriage for all we know he wanted the divorce and she did not you do not burn n hell for a divorce the only unforgivable sin is to deny christ and judging like you are
It's sort of ridiculous to bring in your religious beliefs to an acting role. If every actor were to bring personal ethics to their portrayal of fictional people, you would never have villains. "I'm anti-murder! I can't pretend to kill people for a movie!"
This was one of my most favourite shows EVER!!! I can’t believe it got off to such a rough start. It was a huge part of my childhood. And I’m so thankful for it. Oh.. and never noticed the short shorts. Kids don’t see that
The 2 I've seen her in was A Cry For Help: The Tracey Thurman Story. Very gut-wrenching. The other is Category 6: Day of Destruction, about the superstorm that hit Chicago. There are others I would like to see.
I was so happy when I found out Kim Fields would be on Dancing with the Stars early this year! And even more when I saw Charlotte Rae in the audience during one of her dances. It was so cute!
One of the best TV sitcoms ever I think. Boys watched it just as much as girls did. This show got to stay on the air as long as it deserved to compared to other great shows like James at 15 that just didn't last. I always watched this show and never worried about liking it and being a guy. Like James at 15, this show was always willing to tackle tougher subjects and that's a reason why teens liked it so much.
"This show was always willing to tackle tougher subjects". Such as, using the word RETARDED to describe a mentally challenged/mentally handicapped/special needs person, because that was the terminology of the times. But them's _The FACTS OF LIFE_ my friend.

Don't EVER pressure anyone about weight. EVER. You could start something the person won't come back from. Also, let me say, I have Cerebral Palsy myself and it's far from an affliction. It's not a sickness. I don't suffer. I struggle, yes, and there are days it really sucks, but I don't see it as an affliction in the least.

I didn't realize until Nick-at-Nite was rebroadcasting this show again in the early 2000's that the first season started with a much bigger cast. I actually really liked the giant group and the different theme song the show had back then, but if it's ratings were bad I can understand why they made the changes they did.
People tend to forget that, in the late 70s and early 80s, Blair would have been described as "fat" while Natalie would have been described as "obese". By today's standards, Blair in Seasons 2 and 3 (when she was at her heaviest) would be described as "average" while Natalie would be described as "plump".
That's because being skinny (oftentimes anorexic/bulimic stick thin, much to many a celebrity starlet's detriment) was the "in" thing (and it traditionally will always be the default go-to for many executives, whether TV audiences/magazine readers/average people like it or not) & fat-shaming (or really, any kind of body-shaming in general) wasn't as much a hot-button issue as it is nowadays, which is only because America's overall growing obesity problem ultimately led to most Americans feeling easily triggered/butthurt/greatly offended over body issue insults, even if the tactless put downs generated by late night TV host personalities were not dealt with accordingly by the showrunners & were even worsened when the girl's puberty weight gains led to the producers seemingly starving Lisa Whelchel so she would maintain the weight expected of Blair's slender character, meanwhile sending Mindy Cohn to fat farms to maintain the husky/hefty/plump weight indicative of Natalie's character.
@@Ilovesharks444 I know. But I specifically spoke about America strictly, due to docufilms like Super Size Me (and its sequel) about the videomaker's near-death experience from consuming nothing but McDonald's fast food (and showing how fast food chains were detrimental to the United States' ballooning problem with obesity).
And Charlotte Rae is still with us! YAY! She and Betty White and Cloris continue to rock the world! Comedy clearly extends your life! Takeaway: don't be dour! :)
She was until August 5, 2018, when she passed away. I remember an episode where Mrs. Garrett had a VW Beetle, and I believe she was going to teach the girls to drive.
This story illustrates one of the best facelifts a series was given, and every change made between Season-1 and season-2 was SPOT-ON. Season's 2-thru-5 made FACTS OF LIFE must-see TV for me.
33:25 It's like... the narrator isn't even paying attention to the program. She straight up says she was the token disability kid and Emmy-bait that didn't lure in an Emmy. Three seconds later: "Jeri was a daring attempt to address a tough issue on prime time!" You'd think they could at least wait a couple of beats before COMPLETELY contradicting the statement she just made. Either it was a shameless and shallow gimmick... OR it was a noble attempt at curbing a VERY specific brand of bigotry. It can't be both. And the fact that they booted her out so quickly when her inclusion didn't benefit the bottom line kinda indicates which one it was.
@@chucksellers8422 Kim Fields has had a lot of cosmetic surgery over the years. She is in a couple of episodes of Cobra Kai and it is showing. Actually, Mindy Cohn did the best of all of them. She has done voice overs for some of the best animated shows out there.....You may recognize one of her best, she IS Velma on Scooby Doo, has been for years.
I'm so happy the show happened the way it did. They chose the best of the character to continue the series after season 1 and adding Jo was so necessary and perfect. Even when Mrs. Garrett left I liked Beverly Ann (how could you NOT? It's Cloris Leachman, she was hilarious!). Rest In Peace Cloris and Charlotte. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.
Mindy Cohn was always my favorite she just seemed so real and down to earth and cracked me up and her smiles were real smiles I never knew she wasn’t schooled in acting now it all makes sense she was perfect for that role!
Nancy Mckeon's character was the first character that instantly but unintentionally made me realize I might not like boys, I think Jo was my first girl crush..lol
chryz•wonderland dude same. I’m 17 now and I never thought I was gonna be lesbian, but growing up she’s always been my favorite character and I think deep down I knew I liked her even if I didn’t know what being lesbian was, and like I said I’m 17 now, I’m re binge watching it again and realizing how much I love Jo😂 like growing up I was a Tom boy and into motorcycles and when they’re was drama with me and my friends at school I learned my comebacks from Jo. I never liked seasons 5-9 when I was younger because the cast grew up, plus I didn’t like the way their hair was but this is my first time binge watching it in years and I’m realizing how much I love the 80’s and their hair. I was born in 2002 but if I was to live in any decade it’ll be the 80’s hands down. My first time ever watching The Paris movie was a few days ago and I cried so much when Jo met that guy because I got jealous but when they had to say bye to each other I cried more because I knew Jo was in love with him. I think Jo and Dana Plato (Kimberly from Diff’rent Strokes) were my first ever TV crush when I didn’t even know it when I was a kid.
For me, it was like FINALLY! Somebody like me! It got so very old in the 70’s and 80’s to see the “tomboy” cliche: the rough-around-the-edges girl who deep down inside was just insecure and so very sad, and would suddenly get makeup and a dress and a boyfriend and now everything is *perfect!* Jo was comfortable in her own skin, and was actually happy. Jo walked so Donna Pinciotti could fly.
The producers got this one right. The chemistry of Lisa, Kim, Mindy, and Nancy was perfect!!

But that said, the entire cast of characters on the show had a super corny sense of humor! - which you watch now and you have to roll your eyes and/or change the channel.
Nope. Nothing wrong with that at all. These women are very charismatic and their personalities are magnetic and that really pulls people towards them. 🌞
Absolutely loved this show! I grew up with this show! Thank you Facts of Life!
I loved this show. To this day, #TeamJo. and Mrs Garrett was just like my Mom. Mindy Cohn is hysterical. "And we have wine!" 😂😂
That shot of her saying that line was her opening credit shot for two seasons!
That's right! Loved that show
I always assumed that it was Mindy's acting style to be as bubbly as she turned out It played into her fun-loving attitude and sense of humor. Let's face it...Mindy is a hoot, and a holler and a riot!
Millenniumman75. Your smart! Dqmn
Omg I LOVED it when Natalie would laugh at her lines. It made it so relatable!
She must have forgotten the show they spun off from(Different Strokes),What's Happening,Good Times,Sanford & Son,ect
ever watch the original star trek
Janet Jackson was on Good Times the last year or so.
joe blow Other than Diff'rent Strokes, which had adopted black boys living with a white family, all the other shows you named were Black shows with an all black cast and majority of them were "poor". "Tootie" was a Black girl at a private school with a lot of non-blacks, and JO was the scholarship student. So clearly "Tootie's" family was affluent. (New door opened)
@@k.devlyn5398 the jeffersons ,all in the family..back then nobody cared what colour they were.. they were funny and fit the story or premise of the show..if they were funny? people laughed and embraced them..
I was a teen when this show started.. by the time it ended.. i was in my mid twenties. I really loved all of them! Like I have said before.. Nancy was my Fave but all of the girls stole my heart!
Sad that Nancy McKeon isn't in this. Jo is my fav!!!
Jo was so feisty and fearless. If the Fonz had a daughter on Happy Days, she would have been perfect for the part!
@Bob Jalving I wish that had been a thing.
CARLOS SANTANA yet, she dated men....
Wow, you'd think an ethnic minority wouldn't be a bigot. Then again, there's this guy.
Ya, you're a fucking troll and I'M the moron? The real Carlos Santana would punch you in your fucking ugly face.
Jo : I'll get the beer
Blair : How you gonna get beer ?
Jo : I'LL GET THE BEER.
They get busted....
Mrs. Garret : How did you get beer ?
Jo : I GOT THE BEER.
9EvilHater9 OLD SKOOL Def one of my favorite episodes! Love the classic turn Jo & Blair do in the hall. Nat sees Tootie being questioned by Ms.G &, the three jet outta there so fast! Hilarious! (Nat is around hall corner but, is then thrown in front on return to Ms.G calling them back)
Lol
Oh....my sister, Jo, also loved beer thru high school (she's loving it now thru middle age). Oh, the memories........
I always had a crush on jo. She was a badass
@@MatanuskaHIGH your thinking of Blair, she was the pretty blond
They are all so beautiful now, they should come back together for that finale !
I met the Nancy who played Joe on facts of life and i had a great conversation with her and she was the nicest celebrity I have ever encountered in all my life of being around celebrities cause of my fathers career, She was humble and had a great personality. I loved all these shows in the 70's and 80's
I always liked her character Jo, she and Blair have mostly challenged each other. I love the whole cast.
Adam, are you the son of Red Buttons?
@@vincijuju yes I am
Blair was so fine! Lisa is still a very attractive!
Yes she is she looks the same today she's acting doing great Hallmark Lifetime movies
Blair was the bomb to me and still is hence I watch Facts of Life til this day her hair was everything
Bro, you already know.
@@cyyrious 💯👋👋 im still perfecting that hair now lol! got blonde hair but those beautiful big waves elude me still! 👑
You spelled Jo wrong.
Kim Fields didn't think she would get the part. Kim made the show worth watching. Tootie was the bomb
I love Kim the show wouldn't work without her.
It's a shame that Kim went on the RHWOA and the way they treated her. She loved her career and her children, Kenya was the worst of all to her. Just jealous ALL ladies from this show was a class act! Blessings
@@dinajacobs535 well that's sad but personally I don't watch that's show.
Blessings
@@dinajacobs535 oh dear she seems like a sweet woman.
My all time favorite is Facts of Life Goes to Paris. Especially Jo's storyline. I still watch it to this day.
It was a treasure back then. They were all perfect. 🌼
I will always love this show.
Facts of Life was one of my all time favorite sitcoms. It wasn’t Shakespeare, but it was a delightful show, and the chemistry among the four girls was terrific. The female bond is so strong, especially when you grow up together as these girls did. The show will always have a special place on my heart.
I loved Blair/Lisa! Love how she stood her ground re: her weight/religion . It's not easy esp being on tv but that is The Facts of LIFE! !!
As a teenager,Id write letters to Lisa and then she'd write back to me. I still have the letter!!! Came to my house in 1981. Then after the show got real popular,her Grandmother {Velma French} used to write to me every so often.{Also have some of those letters.....somewhere,plus small b/w's of Lisa....signed.}
That's awesome!

Mindy Cohn has since become the voice of Velma in the newer "Scooby-Doo" projects. She comes the closest (and I mean closest) to the original voice of Velma, Nicole Jaffe.
Loved the facts of life wach it with my oldest daughter all cast look great thank you for beautiful memories ❤
Grew up with this show. Blair and Tootie were my favorite. I liked Natalie too
Definitely an iconic show for it's time
Nancy McKeon is a handful on TV and for sure in real life. Wonderful person.
Mindy smiling line delivery was what kept me coming back! That was forever my favorite part!!
Lisa whelchel is so awesome...she seems like a really nice person....so down to earth
And also bat shit crazy.
She's a Crazy Christian now...I thought Felice Schachter was hottest
+CARLOS SANTANA so if she had been an earlier version of miley cyrus, that would of been okay?
She has a right to her beliefs. How about respecting that right without name-calling?
"Blair" you mean?
Nancy was missed. Glad they include her the best they could
Thank you to all of you wonderful Ladies for years of fun and laughter!!💜
I just bought the whole series, super happy girl here!!
Wow still in love with Blaire. Tootie wow! All these girls are great. Thanks for sharing.
I pray for health wealth and happiness for all you Ladies.
Oh my God! They all look so beautiful as they were always.😂I loved to watch that show so much, they were all funny.
W/ regard to loss of virginity: Kudos and admiration to Lisa W. for her loyalty to her religion, at such a young age especially... Peace w/ a smile
Too bad she still going burn in hell, she's divorced, it's called hypocrisy.
By the time that episode filmed, Lisa was in her mid 20s. She wasn't a kid.
Liberalguy your name says it all Liberals advocate the slaughter of the unborn and call it Healthcare so who the hell are you to condemn Lisa marriages are hard she tried you can't make something work if its not working for the other person in the marriage for all we know he wanted the divorce and she did not you do not burn n hell for a divorce the only unforgivable sin is to deny christ and judging like you are
Oh for crying out loud. It was sarcasm. Get a grip.
Kids don’t see that
I loved the Facts of Life! Miss the old sitcoms. ❤️
Nancy McKeon is still a great actress. She’s done some great TV movies. 👍🏼
She was the best addition to the show. She is why I watched every week.
The 2 I've seen her in was A Cry For Help: The Tracey Thurman Story. Very gut-wrenching. The other is Category 6: Day of Destruction, about the superstorm that hit Chicago. There are others I would like to see.
I wish they would have a reunion special!
They did. Several times.
The facts of life is a great show I remember in 79, and 80s when I was 15.and great actresses on the show.
I loved this show, I really miss the 80’s shows
The show was my favorite. It kept me out of trouble. I was also 15 when it aired.
I love how Mindy cracked herself up.
And that line reading about wine was great.
I loved this show. I would watch over and over
I was so happy when I found out Kim Fields would be on Dancing with the Stars early this year! And even more when I saw Charlotte Rae in the audience during one of her dances. It was so cute!
Yeah, I remember that. This season, Nancy McKeon will be on Dancing with the Stars.
They All blossomed into beautiful women.
...I had a huge crush on Kim Fields as a kid!
I have a crush on her now!
Love Kim Fields!!!
Mindy Cohn should do stand-up.
She has sort of. It's not for the faint of heart.

Nancy Mckeon... what a crush I had on her. She was a tremendous part of that show. Too bad she wasn't part of this video. HOW can that be???!!!
She Mostly Refused To Go On "Facts Of Life" Reunions/Interviews Post-"FOL" Between 1988-2013, Until The 35th Anniversary Interview It Was The First And Only Interview W/All Core Characters, (Rae, Welchel, Cohn, Fields, And McKeon), On ABC...But She Haven't Did Another Post-"FOL" Interview Since. She Spent Decades Trying To Be A Serious Actress, Let Alone: Trying Hard Not Being Typecasted.
I didn't realize until Nick-at-Nite was rebroadcasting this show again in the early 2000's that the first season started with a much bigger cast. I actually really liked the giant group and the different theme song the show had back then, but if it's ratings were bad I can understand why they made the changes they did.
You guys did a fabulous job. You brought so much happiness to our lives and hearts for years.
I don’t remember ever thinking Blair was fat.
@@Elena-er7zpI was a teenager at the time, and I remember it being a big issue for the producers. I don’t remember what my personal opinion was.
@@TherealRNOwwfpooh it's not just Americas issue
@@Ilovesharks444 I know. But I specifically spoke about America strictly, due to docufilms like Super Size Me (and its sequel) about the videomaker's near-death experience from consuming nothing but McDonald's fast food (and showing how fast food chains were detrimental to the United States' ballooning problem with obesity).
Thank you Lisa for standing for your faith... Loved all these girls!

My favorite too!
All of these ladies seem nice & humble Peace w/ a smile
Love Mindy. She got the chance of a lifetime and she knows it and is very humble. She was also the funniest one on the show.
I LOVED that show!!!!
I loved that show, so sad Mrs Garret passed away
Kim Fields turned out to be the most beautiful woman of the group.
@M R and most successful.
Absolutely.
Neither one was ugly,They EACH STILL look great but again I too, agree ythat Kim is the prettiest one!
Yes however Blair it's quite stunning to she's acting in Hallmark movies she looks fantastic
@@chucksellers8422 Kim Fields has had a lot of cosmetic surgery over the years. She is in a couple of episodes of Cobra Kai and it is showing. Actually, Mindy Cohn did the best of all of them. I just had another one of my BRILLIANT ideas!
when I was younger I loved watching this show...

I LOVE the. Facts of Life
I was only four when this show aired in 1979. I grew up with the repeats on KTLA channel five. I learned a lot from those girls The Facts Of Life.
Nancy Mckeon's character was the first character that instantly but unintentionally made me realize I might not like boys, I think Jo was my first girl crush..lol
She is gorgeous
chryz•wonderland dude same.
She was one of my earliest girl crushes too.
I'm not even gay......but she was my girl crush too!😊
I wss watching this program everyday after I got home from school, until the very end. I liked the Joe character.
