One thing that gets overlooked and is rarely remembered because everything is digital now....BUT the special edition DVD had an "Omega 13" option after you watched the movie all the way through. The option rebooted the disc...aka sent you back 13 seconds.
One thing that few people notice is that Jason actually refers to Guy as "Fleegman" at one point on the desert planet. Since Guy never got around to actually _telling_ them his last name this time around, this implies that Jason heard it way back when they were filming episode 81 and has remembered it ever since, even though Guy's role was a one-off and he got killed off 5 minutes into the episode. Yes, Jason is vain and self-centered, but he also possesses a fair amount of people skills, even if he mostly uses them in self-serving ways.
This film is widely regarded as one of the top 5 Star Trek films. Now that shows you how well this movie resonated with the fans of Star Trek. As many say it's a love letter to Trek. Fun Fact: Enrico Colantoni (Mathezar) pretty much made up the voice, the mannerisms, etc. of the Thermians. The director was so blown away by Enrico's reading that he had the rest of the Thermian cast copy and learn from him.
@@eolsunder i remember for a while, every time there was a poll..Galaxy Quest was voted THE best Trek movie of all time. Happened over and over again. And as a massive Trekkie, i have to agree. It's the best, though Wrath of Khan comes pretty damn close. Star Trek Beyond is also pretty damn underrated imo. Definitely the most "Star Treky" of the Kelvin movies. Which aren't bad at all. Except for the third act of Into Darkness. Which kinda ruins the rest of that film. But hey, different timeline, so it's fine. And the comic book which told that version of Khan's origin makes Into Darkness slightly better. Though still pretty bad towards the end.
As a life long Trekker I absolutely adore this movie. You can tell it's made with genuine affection for the source material and the fans while still being able to poke fun at both. Every character is my favorite and every shot, every line is my favorite. I saw this in the theater in 1999 with my wife. It never gets old, never gives up, never surrenders.
Mathazar's voice was based on a vocal exercise he learned in acting school. Basically, it was him just speaking every word in a loud monotone. They liked it so much, it became the speech pattern for all the Thermians.
You should watch the documentary about this, even just on your own time and not a reaction. It's called Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary. It's a really good insight on how this film was made and it's cultural impact today. I think also in the documentary they mentioned that Tony Shalhoub's character is just high that's why he's like that
My friend Bill Chott has a small part in this movie I always get a smile whenever I see the scene. Fun fact : the ship is called the NTE- Protector, the NTE stood for Not The Enterprise.
Apparently the lead alien is the reason for most of their physical mannerisms. He did his audition fully in character with all the weird quirks and the they loved it so much, they made the other aliens act the same way!
I was about to do something else and then, "Oooh, GalaxyQuest!" I'll always stop for a GalaxyQuest reaction. This is a movie that never gets old. Like Big Trouble in Little China or CLUE.
Alan Rickman was phenomenal in this movie. Sam Rockwell was in two movies that year, Galaxy Quest and the Green Mile. It shows just how versatile he is.

Interesting that I live in a world where my favorite Star Trek movie is not a Star Trek movie, but Galaxy Quest -- possibly the best and most loving parody of a film franchise. No favorite actors - it truly was an all-star ensemble. Special kudos to Enrico Colantoni (Malthesar) for essentially coming up with all the alien mannerisms that were used by the actors playing the Termites? Dalmatians? ...Thermians.
@Average_Sociopathyou people never get tired of mentioning Discovery everytime, everywhere? It's like you're obsessed. Its kind of a sad thing to be when you hate something. Move on
Definitely in my top 10! Point of trivia is that Rainn Wilson had a prior commitment he could get out of so rather than write him out completely, you just didn’t see him again. Re: “Gwen” and her shirt, in a deleted scene she opened her shirt to distract the enemy guys. But with that cut out, her shirt was just opened rather having to refill all her parts. A part 2 was planned, but when Rickman died they all thought it just wouldn’t be the same.
I would have liked to see a sequel to this. Maybe have some “behind the scenes” stuff on the new series, confirming the fan theory that they got a new series as a means of keeping them quiet about there being actual intelligent life in space. Maybe “Jane Doe” secretly provides the government with guidance in developing new space exploration technologies? Things like that? Lots of possibilities.
@@Thundarr100 My guess would have been, they just prepare for a cinematic movie from the show when Thermians show up again and take the whole film set on location. And maybe throw some FBI agents in there, too, the X-Files was still big at that time.
That's the most realistic premise... ...the most fantastic one (literally and colloquially) would be they adopted the starship technology from the wreck, built a real version of the Protector, and the cast is part of a reality TV series where they do _actual_ space adventures now.
Sam does really steal every scene!!! Even in the background, he’s in full character!!! When he screams arriving to the ship, Sigourney’s jump is a real reaction!
The actor for Sirrus, was Robin Sachs, who is more known for being "Rupert", Giles' nemesis in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the one who keeps calling Giles, "Ripper".
Tim Allen got top billing so people would say, "This should be funny", but the other five stole the movie from him. What a great cast. It's sad a sequel was never made because we lost Alan so early. It would have been a blast.
@@st0n3p0ny I beg to differ. How do you come to the conclusion of your second sentence after acknowledging the state of the industry in your first sentence? A sequel would absolutely suck, precisely because the industry is out of ideas - which is why they'd make a sequel in the first place instead of original content. Except it would have bad writing, it would be chalked full of liberal propaganda and marxist identity politics. All actors would be recast with black gay female immigrant paraplegics just so they can say they did it. This is the really interesting history about Tony Shaloub's character being the way that he is, quoted by Shaloub. "That was an interesting situation, too. I had first gone in to meet the director for the role of Guy Fleegman, Sam Rockwell’s part. Crewman #6. That was the initial meeting. And then I found out a little while later that Sam was going to do that, and that was great. And then Dean called me up and said, “We would like you to do this guy Fred Kwan.” And I said, “Well, no, that’s an Asian guy. I can’t play an Asian guy! Why don’t you get an Asian guy? There’s a lot of guys out there who could knock this out of the park!” He said, “No, no, no, we think you should do this thing.” And I said [Sighs.] “Well, I can’t play an Asian guy. I won’t play an Asian guy. But I will play a guy who plays an Asian guy.” So Dean said to me, “Why don’t you take a look at the pilot for Kung Fu?” You know, the David Carradine show? “Because that was a guy who wasn’t an Asian guy playing an Asian guy.” This got really convoluted. [Laughs.] So I watched David Carradine, and then we found out that there was this rumor-I don’t think it was a rumor, I think it was a legend-that David Carradine just smoked a lot of weed on that show. That was the thing. That’s how he was able to channel that kind of Zen, unflappable character. So we decided, “Well, maybe that’s what happened to Fred, too: He just became this kind of burnout.” And then we just kind of rewrote it as we went along. Dean and the writers, we just kind of made it up as we went along, based on that idea: that he’d smoked an enormous amount of pot.
I remember being at a convention and watching the alternate version on the DVD that has dubbed alien voices for everyone in the whole film.... I don't remember ever laughing so hard with a group of people before.
This is such a great homage film to sci-fi, I’m glad that in these later years it’s being recognized for how good it is and how so many enjoy it. If I’m feeling crappy, this is one of those I put on.
The casting director really earned their pay on this one. Not only the top line cast, but even most of the Thermians have gone on to be constantly working and in some cases get iconic roles of their own. Plus Justin Long.
Just a brilliant script! Great casting and just a fun time! So glad people are finding this movie! My fav jokes are "miners not minors".. and " let's get out of here before one of those things kills guy!".. just so funny! Everyone is my fav!!
Tony was clearly my favorite character because of his attitude towards it all. Sigourney would be a second because she is Sigourney, after all. Also, she had some of the best lines. I guess because she is a sci fi legend they could not resist having her take a few shots at the genre. I never really thought about who my favorite alien was.
There was supposed to be a scene cut of Tony's character smoking a joint just before they got teleported to the ship. He was a stoner and played it that way but the movie got edited by the studio making it more family friendly. Sigourney's "screw this' line was dubbed over but Tony's entire character was played 'high' so they just cut references to his usage.
For a long time I thought Tony Shalhoob's character was always so calm because Scotty was always so over-excited and dramatic. After about 10 rewatches I finally figured out he was just stoned 🤣
Love that you pointed out the "Well FUCK THAT" overdub - I've read both ways (that they intended that all along vs. they were forced to censor it), but I don't care - it was a laugh out loud scene the first time I saw it in the theater! Great scene in one of the most surprisingly good movies I've ever seen!
They weren’t forced to censor it, the studio decided to seek a PG rating instead of PG-13 to help the movie reach a wider audience and they dubbed it, but didn’t shoot an alternate, so it’s so obvious. Just one of the quirks that makes this movie amazing

How did they film this? Every single time Rainn Wilson speaks, I crack up. I have acting training, and I wouldn't make it through a scene with him. LMAO Great reaction! This movie is always a pleasant surprise.
Alan Rickman was lost way too soon. He's absolutely brilliant as the super computer in "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and this sci-fi homage. Everybody remembers him in the best Christmas movie ever made (Die Hard) and as Severus Snape in Harry Potter. But he was great in small roles, also.
I saw this the first day it was released before it was pulled and recut to PG. Fred smokes a bowl throughout the entire movie. (see how it fits) Look at her lips and you can see Sigourney say "FUCK THAT" at 'the chompers'. It was hilarious. It deserves an original reissue.

Tony Shaloub's character is actually stoned the entire movie. You can see smoke coming out of his pod when he is transported to the ship. He showed up on set with that brown paper bag full of snacks and told the director, "I think my character is in here." They didn't hire him for lines, since he had the fewest of the cast, they hired him because of his physical comedy.
What I loved was afterward; when a bunch of friends cosplayed as Thermians for Comic-Con(don't know the year). Rainn Wilson apparently adopted them as his entourage for part of the weekend. Currently still looking for the video(s)of that; especially one where they were all watching Galaxy Quest together and just being Thermians. 😎👍
It saddens me how so few people react to Enrico Colantoni. Did no youtubers ever watch "Just Shoot Me", "Flashpoint" or "Veronica Mars"? Anyway, the guy is amazing as Mathesar! Can not really choose a favourite from the good guys, though Mathesar is brilliant. My favourite of the movie may well be Robin Sachs as General Sarris. A distinguished actor in his own right both in the UK & US though you could never recognise him as Sarris. He also had played in the Star Trek TV series - THOUGH of course he may well come into second place behind Alan Rickman, so brilliant in everything he did. Have admired him since I first noticed him in Truly, Madly, Deeply. Worth watching, like "Ghost" but the English version. Both made in 1990

Also you will recognise one of the other Thermians, as The Recruiter in Deadpool who tells Wade about the mutant program to cure the cancer. Jed Rees. He has been around since the early 90's in 21 Jump Street.
@@ChannelReuploads9451 Rainn wilson is also one of the Thermians

When he asks the Thermians to help look for his shoe and they all start looking up at the ceiling, that is such a subtle but genius thing. It cracks me up every time.

@@uffda3937 Hello, I was afraid that was the case.
One thing that gets overlooked and is rarely remembered because everything is digital now....BUT the special edition DVD had an "Omega 13" option after you watched the movie all the way through.
The option rebooted the disc...aka sent you back 13 seconds.
"The Orville" might be the closest thing for a tv show version of Galaxy Quest.
There's actually a bit in the novelization for the film where guy actually yells out that his last name is fleagman so he can't be killed.
Wrath of Khan 1, Galaxy quest 2
Fun Fact is verified truth. I can confirm, if anyone wanted confirmation.
@@TomGallagherSuperboyBeyond The reboot movies are universally trash. I would literally rather watch Nemesis.
@@rabid_si Opinion.
As a life long Trekker I absolutely adore this movie. You can tell it's made with genuine affection for the source material and the fans while still being able to poke fun at both. But it also works as a really good adventure in its own right. Damn shame we never got a sequel but I'm also happy that this exists as a single perfect entity. Never give up, never surrender! 😁
The Trek actors all loved this too. George Takei called it a chillingly realistic documentary.
Pervert social justice warrior George said it disparagingly though. The only thing "chilling" about it is the realism of fandom, which is another way of saying he mocks the very people that gave him fame, fortune and platform.
@@leesweets4110 🙄
Takei: I think it's a chillingly realistic documentary [laughs]. The details in it, I recognized every one of them. It is a powerful piece of documentary filmmaking. And I do believe that when we get kidnapped by aliens, it's going to be the genuine, true Star Trek fans who will save the day. ... I was rolling in the aisles. And [star] Tim Allen had that Shatner-esque swagger down pat. And I roared when the shirt came off, and [co-star] Sigourney [Weaver] rolls her eyes and says, 'There goes that shirt again.' ...How often did we hear that on the set? [Laughs.]

@@theaikidoka Pervert, thats what I said. Social justice is marxist unfair treatment, libtard. We were already equal under the law; there is no need for sjw bullshhiit that tries to diminish the rights of others and give special privilege's to the few.
They also use atypical inflection to make their cadence odd.
Beat me to it. LOL
It's the NSEA-Protector, but it's number is NTE-3120
Apparently the lead alien is the reason for most of their physical mannerisms. He did his audition fully in character with all the weird quirks and the they loved it so much, they made the other aliens act the same way!
13:23 The best part is Sam Rockwell improvised screaming, so Sigourney Weaver's flinching was real.
I bet she kicked his arse when they called 'cut'...
He's a true talent. I don't know what his personal life is like, but you can't fault his acting - he has never been bad in anything I've seen.
This is one of the greatest movies of all time. I remember seeing it in theaters and I swear that when I saw it, it was not the "screw that" dubbed version
yea i remember going to see it and had no idea what the film was about never heard of it, but at the theater i saw a poster that had Tim on it and went oh! its Tim lets go see this.
Move on
" ....and it exploded.." that line gets me ever time.😂😂😂
Definitely in my top 10!
My idea for a sequel would have been a mirror universe episode. All the actors would have beards, including Sigourney.
Tim Allen went to infinity and beyond in this movie for sure
In the anniversary disc, Tim Allen said that there websites dedicated to hating Tim Allen, and even they liked him in "Galaxy Quest."
The whole cast is amazing. One of my favorites of all time. I quote it often. My favorite is hands down Guy Fleegman.

But what about the savings?
The actor for Sirrus, was Robin Sachs, who is more known for being "Rupert", Giles' nemesis in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the one who keeps calling Giles, "Ripper".
When Enrico auditioned for the part he did the whole walk and voice. The Director loved it so much he had the alien actors mimic what Enrico did
Tony was just so perfect throughout…and Sam also.
The entire cast really did a great job.
Tim Allen got top billing so people would say, "This should be funny", but the other five stole the movie from him. What a great cast. It's sad a sequel was never made because we lost Alan so early. It would have been a blast.
Considering how terrible the industry has gotten, I'd expect a sequel. Anything remotely good and sequel appropriate is going to get a chance.
They produce garbage content they KNOW is garbage content because of ESG scores, appealing to niche demographics, and propagandizing the people, and thats all the reason they need. Good content is difficult and requires paying real talent.
@Drew The Galaxy Quest movie came out in 1999. Rickman passed in 2016. They had 17 years to make a sequel. His passing was not the reason they didnt make a sequel.

But the tide has already turned. With technology being cheaper and cheaper every day, and crowd sourced funding available for independent productions, the barriers to entry are gone.
Tim Allen is a Conservative. And he has enough clout to push DreamWorks to make it happen.
Be of good cheer my dude, everyone can see that no BS classic movies, made to be entertaining and not to push nonsense politics, are killing it. The demand is off the charts. Top Gun, Sound Of Freedom, people actually go to these abandoned ghost town movie theaters to see them. Woke Snow White probably won't even be released... the pendulum swings and we're about to move in to an epic Renaissance era for movies/TV. Galaxy Quest was a dud in theaters, but it would be one of the biggest movies of the year I'd it came out today. People would rave about it. I predict a sequel. No idea who fills in for the Rickman part, but, it's going to happen.
There IS a new sequel series coming to streaming - once the strikes are over - with Gwen training a new crew.
But I will play a guy who plays an Asian guy.”
So Dean said to me, “Why don’t you take a look at the pilot for Kung Fu?” You know, the David Carradine show?

I forgot how fun this movie is.

They didn't hire him for lines, since he had the fewest of the cast, they hired him because of his physical comedy.
near the end the reason her shirt is mostly unzipped is because there was a cut scene where she flashed the alien guards to distract them.

Both made in 1990
Robin, who passed away some years ago, is also best known for playing devious warlock Ethan Rayne on some episodes of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer".
I absolutely love this movie! Sam Rockwell(Guy) is my favorite part. Every scene he’s in is hilarious. So many quotes in this movie.
P.S. You should definitely consider going to Fan X Salt Lake, because I live in Salt Lake! It would be amazing just to meet you two and shake hands!
Guy being completely genre-savvy is one of the best gags. Him not getting shot during Serras's camouflage ambush is one of the more subtle jokes.
I watched this as a kid knowing jack about Trek; only watched a few TNG episodes in passing my parents had on. Don't think I ever made a Trek connection back at the time.
