Stephen Fry once described "groaner" jokes on QI ("Quite Interesting", a British comedian panel show that's called "the pub quiz from Hell". The balcony sequence was the hardest laughter of them all in the cinema, I watched this film four times in theaters and this sequence always gave me a horrible ribcage pain but for the uncontrollable infectious crowd laughter.
Fuck I wish I'd been there to see this in theaters. My mom unfortunately knew better and wouldn't have let me. But yeah, the audience reaction had to be bonkers, and a recording of even one would be fantastic.

Originally, this was a nod to Nielsen being Canadian. It was a *popular* euphemism _only_ there & this movie may be why it's now one in the U.S.A. as well.
Back in college I was in the middle of a lab practical exam. One exhibit had a taxidermy snake, owl and beaver set up with the question which was from the mammal family. I finished that row but the next row wasn't moving very fast. So, I leaned against the wall next to the class teaching assistant. I leaned next to the TA and told her, Nice Beaver. She barely took a breath and replied with thanks, I just had it stuffed. The rest of the class was glaring at us while we laughed very loudly.
The Queen Elizabeth actress "Jeannette Charles" basically was cast as The Queen in pretty much every movie she's been in because of her resemblance. Between 1974 and 2010 played the Queen over 30 times! haha Nice gig if you can get it! 🙂
IMDb shows that 30 of her 37 acting credits were playing Queen Elizabeth. It's practically all that she did. Wikipedia says that she was a stage actor in her youth, but found it hard to get parts because of her resemblance to the Queen. So, sadly, that resemblance may've cursed her acting career, but at least she made the most out of it. Apparently, she's still alive and will turn 95 in a few weeks.
🤣 I know this since i ever existed, and i also missed that part, its so miled and slow in this fast pase movie, no wonder. Also i think my eyes were filled with laughter tears, so my vision was blurry 🤣🥴🤣😭

Of all the reactions to this film I’ve seen, not one has known who the figures were at the beginning (Mikhail Gorbachev, Idi Amin, the Ayatollah Khomeni & Yasser Arafat) & no one knows what they’re eating in the car (red-dyed pistachios)🤣
They were eating pistachios in the car. They used to dye the shells red because we used to get them from the middle East and the harvesting methods they used would leave the shells stained and unappetizing.
the trilogy Naked Gun was made before OJ Simpson's trial of the century... fun fact is the actress Susan Beaubian who plays OJ's character's wife also plays the jury foreperson in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson!
My father and I watched all six episodes of Police Squad! when it was on television. They had a funny thing they did every episode where they would introduce a special celebrity guest star, and then immediately kill them off before the show started. I was so psyched when I saw the trailers for this, because I loved the short lived show. :D
The snack they are eating in the police car are pistachios. Back in the 70’s and 80’s, they use to dye the shell reddish pink. When you eat them, your hands turn the same color.
Now you gotta watch parts 2 and 3! I loved his "bumbling" hero character, in his mind he is always doing the "right" thing. He may not be the smartest but we cannot question his determenation to bring in the bad guy
“Why does this lady look so familiar?“ “She’s been in the movie this whole time.” If it were possible to “double subscribe,” I would. My favorite gag is the whole informant scene.
The "expiration date June 1982" in the mayo jar is an inside joke about the Police Squad series. It aired for one season in 1982 and had Leslie Nielsen as Frank Drebin, the movie is actually an assemble of jokes written for the series. The "she looks familiar" actress is Priscilla Beaulieu, Elvis Presley's ex-wife.
3:59 UHF is actually Weird Al Yankovic's movie, but you're spot on about the type of humor being really similar. However -- I mostly bring that up only because there are at least two fun ties between Al and the Zuckers. First: Weird Al is in all three Naked Gun movies, as I'm sure others have mentioned. Second: Weird Al's favorite movie of all time is Top Secret!, which is a Zucker/Zucker collaboration like Naked Gun.
Police Squad, the tv show, is available free to watch on youtube. Same humor as the movie. And the "When I see three guys in togas stabbing a man in the park in front of hundreds of witnesses, I shot the bastard. Thats my policy" is a spoof of Dirty Harry. So it was probably a quote from that reaction.
I think the gag where Frank finds all his food rotten is because the show ended years before it was filmed, so it's all gone bad since then xD Great reaction
Holy hell I've seen this movie a dozen times and I never made the Livia Soprano connection That makes my favorite line even more special "Sexual assault with a concrete dildo?!?!"
Val Kilmer's first ever movie role, not that you'd know it from his performance. He killed it, and given what the role calls for, that's doubly amazing. I don't think Val gets enough credit for just how talented and skilled he is.
"Just thinking about baseball" works lmao 26:29 the opera singer crying while Frank murders the national anthem in his name is just an underrated gag in this movie.
The trucker's reaction always made me laugh a lot when Stephanie shows him the middle finger hahaha As soon as Louie Louie passed by, I started singing with you haha
This was before Griffey played for Seattle. In fact, in the theater, the gag was that this was a world series game and that the Mariners were in the world series. They changed it for video to a playoff game when someone who knew baseball pointed out that two teams in the same league couldn't meet in the world series.
Great reactions! I just love seeing you guys almost falling out of your chairs with laughter. Favorite gag: "Nice beaver." Leslie Nielsen was a pretty prolific serious actor prior to "Airplane", "Naked Gun" movies. He usually played the "heavy". I'll always remember him from his role as the ship captain in "Forbidden Planet". A seminal science fiction movie from the 50s.
18:35 - They were eating red pistachio nuts. Back when, they used to sell regular pistachio nuts as well as dyed-red ones, which I guess made them more appealing to enough people. But they used to stain people's lips and fingers.
You guys are the perfect late night watch before bed so I can unwind and relax...and that laugh during this one was icing on the cake. So authentic and comforting. Thanks for what you do
The red things they're eating are pistachios. They used to be coated red to hide the marks on their shells from harvesting and make them visually more appealing.
Pistachios are one of those tree products harvested with a net and a giant padded machine that just grabs the trunk and shakes the crap outta the tree. Worth checking a video of the process; something about it is quite amusing. Couldn't tell you why.
Every reaction I’ve seen to this movie, everyone asks “What are they eating?” When Frank and Ed are sitting in the car. I didn’t realize that red dyed pistachios were that dated. Back then pistachios were covered in red dye to make them a universal color. They were farmed from different places and the colors weren’t all the same.
Thank you ! I thought I was the only one in the world who knew what pistachios are anymore . Almost every reaction video I've seen of this movie the watchers have no idea what they're eating .
I love that Mrs. Movies knows Leslie Nielsen from 'Mister Magoo' - certainly one of his less appreciated movies. It makes me want you to see him in the Disney TV movie 'Santa Who?' (2000) in which he plays Santa Claus who has amnesia after falling out of his sleigh over New York City ending up at a homeless shelter and working as a department store Santa, and a reporter exploits him to as a "human interest story" to get views while an innocent little girl realizes that he is the real Santa and tries to help him regain his memory. It's honestly a mediocre movie, but if you love Leslie Nielsen enough you can make overlook its weaknesses.
Columbo was Peter Falk, this is Ricardo Montalban from Fantasy Island. Ironically, Leslie Nielsen was actually considered for the role of Commandant Lassard in Police Academy. Also, the "I shoot the bastards, that's my motto" line is a parody of the line Clint Eastwood said in Dirty Harry.
The irony is that Leslie Neilson was a serious dramatic actor and had always wanted to do comedy but no one would put him in one because he was a dramatic actor. He got his big break with Airplane, which was a spoof of Flight Into Danger where he was the lead. The rest is history. The irony is that after Airplane, he couldn't do a dramatic role if he wanted it. But I don't think he wanted one anyway. He was having fun. Loved your reaction. Subscribed.
Fun fact: The bad guy's secretary is the Zucker brothers mom. They give her a cameo in a lot of their movies. Also Scary Movie would be a fun one to see.
I like the little Tom Servo on your shelf. You don't see those too often outside of MST3K. He and Crow look a little bent out of shape, but they can pull it off.
Police Squad was canceled for the most absurd reason. The network thought there was no way the writers could keep up the level of comedy they were. It was literally canceled for being too funny!
Not the same people, true, but a very similar style of comedy between ZAZ and "Weird" Al, as seen in Al's repeated appearances in ZAZ movies. I dunno if Al recruited any of ZAZ for a little off-books assistance with "UHF", but I wouldn't be shocked. If you've got that kind of resource, why not use it?
I hate to admit it, but my favorite gag was the honking breasts when Frank was on the ledge. Without the sound effect, I would have just found it crass, but with the honking noise, it totally cracks me up.
Back in the day, some stores sold pistachio nuts with their shells dyed red to be more appealing, and would stain your fingers and lips. Not sure when that stopped, but I haven't seen dyed pistachios in ages
That stopped when the US stopped importing them from Iran and started harvesting them in California. Different harvesting technique didn't make the shells look so unappealing, thus they didn't need to be dyed anymore to hide imperfections.
First off, I thought I was already subscribed to you guys, but I wasn't until today. Second, I almost forgot to watch some movies myself today because I was binge watching your videos lol. Love your reactions, greetings from Germany!
In the car on their stakeout (at around 18:40), what they're eating is pistachios which, for some inscrutable reason, used to get dyed reddish before being packaged and sold.
I think the character from Police Academy you might have been thinking of was George Gaynes, who played Commendant Eric Lassard. I also recall him from his roles in "Punky Brewster" and "Altered States."
Great movie. I hope you also do the sequels. It is a very funny trilogy, This trilogy is based on a short lived tv series of 6 episodes of Police Squad that was a head of its time and canceled, The secretary in the movie that served the tea and was hypnotize is the directors mother she was also in airplane (the woman with the makeup). You should also see Top Secret another funny movie from the same directors of Airplane and this movie. Fyi The Shakespeare in the park bit is a spoof on dirty harry movie line.
27:26 I don't know if you got it, but that was the finger of the guy that fell into vat at the meat packing plant. There were signs at the plant for "Dugout Dogs."
Lots of (at the time) big names in this too. Besides OJ and George Kennedy, Priscilla Presley. Ricardo Montalban (fantasy Island). My 1st awareness of Leslie was in a Disney TV serial called The Swamp Fox. It was one of the rotating and repeating serials shown on Disneys Wonderful World of Color back in the day. He played Francis Marion who was an American hero of the war against England . There are places all over the country named Marion this or that. Not a comedy and he was really good in it. You guys are too much fun. Oh and they were eating pistachios. The ones with the red dye were what everyone sold in the old days.
One of the funny quotes you guys passed over, occurs when Frank is cleaning out his files and picks up a bag exclaiming "My God! The missing evidence from the Kilner Case!! He WAS innocent!!" Ed replies, "Frank, they put him to death 2 years ago..."
We realized the five guys in the park gag was from Dirty Harry after we finished editing. We had just watched Dirty Harry a month or so ago and were like why is that so familiar.
Wait... are they really eating Pistachios? I think we need more comments letting us know... 😉

@@cronos222 I'm not sure when they stopped dying them red. It's like one day, they were gone.
I knew it because my grandfather used eat those all the time when I was a kid.
Y’all should be sure to watch the credits very closely. They are hilarious, as well.
I remember when this first came out, oh I can feel my age lol!! Sat here tears tripping my face laughing, it's still so good!
When you asked her who she thinks the assassin at the game is, I expected her to say Deputy Dewey, LOL.
A Ken Griffey jr. shout out, singing Louie Louie, and all the laughter made this reaction fantastic. LOL
When Leslie Nielsen died, ESPN ran an obituary for his referee in the last scene, Enrico Pallazzo
The pink things they were eating were pistachios, for some reason in the late 80's early 90's they dyed them pink.
“The kind of legs you’d like to suck on, for a day”. Also the Mrs ‘No hands’ dance is priceless ✋🏻✋🏻 😂
How about Nancy Marchand
playing both the mayor in this and Livia on the Sopranos? Brilliant actress for sure.
I went to college with a guy who's grandpa was Leslie Nielsen. He was a cool dude.
Wow this was the funniest movie reaction I've seen in ages, thank you! 😅
He was also the Captain at the Poseidon!
Reggie Jackson was my favourite baseball player. I wish he did more movies.
Subscribed.
18:40-Oh, I see you’re not familiar with the old school red dye pistachio.
To expand upon this - for some... Godforsaken idea, pistachios in the U.S. (at least) used to be dyed red, resulting in such colouration.
@@samovarsa2640 yeah. My aunt ate them all the time and so, it wasn’t until I was an adult I was even willing to eat a normal pistachio.
Jane was played by Priscilla Presley, so she may be familiar if you like Elvis.
Fun fact: The bad guy's secretary is the Zucker brothers mom. They give her a cameo in a lot of their movies. Also Scary Movie would be a fun one to see.
A lot of people missed the joke at the end of the opening credits that the car eventually stops at a donut shop. LOL.
Can't wait for the "Top Secret!" reaction.
I like the little Tom Servo on your shelf. You don't see those too often outside of MST3K. He and Crow look a little bent out of shape, but they can pull it off.
This was a great movie to see in the theaters. Saw this on opening night and people were losing it laughing so hard.
Big crowds laughing just went uncontrollable chain reaction. 😂
I don’t think I’m ever gonna get over your husband wearing headphones on top of a cowboy hat what even 😂
“By the way, I faked every orgasm.”
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Police Squad was canceled for the most absurd reason. The network thought there was no way the writers could keep up the level of comedy they were. It was literally canceled for being too funny!
Great reactions as always! One note: Not the same people who made UHF, not at all.
I looked for this comment just to hit the like button.
What a great fun watch from both of you, the Mrs laughing during the hot mic scene was hilarious.
Hot Shots and Hot Shots 2 is in the same genre of this, if you haven't watched them. Pure gold. Charlie Sheen at his best.
Favorite gag was when they got out of the theater laughing their ass off, for Platoon! 🤣
I hate to admit it, but my favorite gag was the honking breasts when Frank was on the ledge. Without the sound effect, I would have just found it crass, but with the honking noise, it totally cracks me up.
You guys don’t remember when pistachio shells were dyed bright red? Holy shit I’m old
Back in the day, some stores sold pistachio nuts with their shells dyed red to be more appealing, and would stain your fingers and lips.
In the scene were they're eating in the car, those are red candy pistachios. Very popular in the early 90s. They were discontinued in the mid 90s
Not candy. They were not sweet, just colored red to hide imperfections on their shell from harvesting to make them more appealing.
In the car on their stakeout (at around 18:40), what they're eating is pistachios which, for some inscrutable reason, used to get dyed reddish before being packaged and sold.
Made my day seeing the Mrs. laugh so much. Especially love the hot wet roast line
Such a great, fun movie.
Nice reaction!
You really should watch Police Squad. It’s only 6 episodes of 30 minutes, but they pack a lot in
You know what…
I do agree I saw some today and it’s even funnier
The films had to deliver the comedy more in your face the series had so so many subtle little bits
One of the funny quotes you guys passed over, occurs when Frank is cleaning out his files and picks up a bag exclaiming "My God! The missing evidence from the Kilner Case!! He WAS innocent!!" Ed replies, "Frank, they put him to death 2 years ago..."
I think this might be one of the very, very few react channels that are actually reacting for the first time, love it
Alanda Parker is awesome and real too
Thanks Martin!!
21:25 Police Squad was shown in March (4 episodes) and July (2 episodes) 1982 so the date on the mayo (June 1982) is between the two dates.
