Great video, thanks! I discovered this trail in the late’70’s as a teen from an old map and used to take family and friends up there. I too look up at the railing from the rockslide section every time I’m on the Mist Trail. Your video has inspired me to try it again after all of these years!
Hello Doug, thank you for all the videos! My wife and I found Sierra Point on 6/17/22 and we could not have done it without your video and tips. You were spot on! Always take the stairs! The trail got so steep that we had to stash our packs and almost couldn't find them on our way down! after a frantic 30 minute search on the overgrown hillside and as the sun was starting to go down we finally found our packs and were able to call it a day. Thank you for all the Yosemite videos, they really helped us prepare and plan for our 9 days in the park! Who knows, maybe we'll see you on the trails!?
@@BackcountryPilgrim insane views. such an amazing experience. we went past the rocks instead of scaling the rocks and got lost for an extra hour...haha but super fun time!

I am too! But I will be up top, not in the valley. :) Unfortunately, Yosemite Falls and Illilouette are and will be dry. :( Vernal and Nevada don't really dry up unless it's been a bad couple years though. Enjoy!!!
Sorry havent been there but it looks like it begins with the Clouds Rest / Sunrise Lakes trail. When the trail heads away from the creek, you stay next to it for a mile or two. Looks fun, why do clouds rest with my buddy next month will have to check out this area!
Doug-What a great video and adventure! Your videos are so professional you must be a videographer in real life. And Yosemite with no people. Well done!
Great Video as others said. Good commentary how u process which way to go, with mix of music, photos, texts. Now how long is round trip if one does not get lost (my group will😬) wanted to try something different &this might be the ticket this month.
Glad you enjoyed it! The RT is about 1.2 miles but a substantial part of that is climbing on boulders or steep slippery trails and even some class 3 scrambling so allow for a lot of time. if you want some more details about the route (or to pay me exorbitant amounts of money to guide - LOL!) feel free to email me: backcountrypilgrim@gmail.com!
@@BackcountryPilgrim once I come into that exorbitant amount of money, u will be the first one I contact💰💰😉 ... we going to try the trail tmrw... thanks again for detailed info
i been wanting to do this hike for a long time since i worked in yosemite but too far up to maybe not find the trail i guess i just have no good navigational bearing lol seen many videos and most have no idea how to route find or find the trail once its gone for a while...be awesome to see how this trail was before they closed it and all the rock fall...just like old big oak flat road
It's not real easy to follow but the main sections of the climb are in the video. None of it is beyond a simple scramble but it's about 600' all in a row over very loose dirt and rock, and there are a few places you do NOT want to slip. :) It can be done in a couple hours.
Those boulder fields looked like a bit of a challenge what an amazing trail. Rarely are you able to tell how steep trails are with video, this one you can, lol
The covered up spot on the trail destination sign used to say "Emerald Pool". I assume they covered it up so that people didn't see it and decide it was a swimming hole. (It's very dangerous to swim)

Very cool! Respect for finding it!
Wow I never knew that trail existed
It doesn't. ;)
Wow
Thanks very much for that extremely helpful 👍
You bet!
Thanks for the video, you did a great job showing and explaining the route. We will have to try this on our next adventure to Yosemite!
It's worth it!

@@BackcountryPilgrim That would be awesome! We will be roaming the park all week until Friday doing most of the hikes you recommended!
Well I have a reservation for Tuesday so maybe I'll see you up there!
One of the most stunning videos I’ve ever seen, thank you!!
It's a very special place in a very special place!
Great video!
Right to my bucket list 🤣
Thx for sharing

Finally one I have actually done! Great hike with amazing views!!
Well done - that's a rare find!
Excellent video. Well done. It's so well done that I don't have to do it now....but I still will.
LOL! The real thing is....*slightly*....better. ;)
Going up there tomorrow! This video came in on time. Luvd it
Cool! I took a buddy up there again last week. :)

Beautiful! I’m going to Yosemite 9/1 -9/3... I hope I find the trail and that the falls are still flowing!

I actually didnt have my SD card in my DSLR so I had to use my phone. I was so mad haha. But thank you!
Very, very nice video! One of my most favorite spots in the world!
It really is amazing! Thanks for watching!
tried to find It yesterday but got confused in the boulder field. you went left at the top?
Oh no,! Actually the "trail" begins on the right side of the boulder field about 1/3 of the way up and you never re-cross it.

Yeah I made it the first time but there was a spot or two I would have gotten off route if I hadn't seen others do it. :)
Awesome video! How difficult was this and how long did it take round trip? And what would you guess how much elevation gain was?
It's not real easy to follow but the main sections of the climb are in the video. None of it is beyond a simple scramble but it's about 600' all in a row over very loose dirt and rock, and there are a few places you do NOT want to slip. :) It can be done in a couple hours.
@@BackcountryPilgrim so it's a 600 foot elevation gain? And thanks
That's what I read from the map. Not a lot of up and down, 98% up haha.
every time i go to vernal falls i look up at the railing, and dad has gone there multiple times
Very cool!
Do you happen to have to gpx file?
I think my buddy made one when I took him up there a while back. Email me at backcountrypilgrim@gmail.com and I'll try to get it for you!
I think I may have done this many years ago. Is the turnoff before you get to the Vernal Falls Bridge?
Yup. :)

Yeah they're something else. Good trail weed-out I guess haha. I love climbing around on rocks though so I enjoyed it. :)

Huh. I was told it was Sierra Point. Emerald Pool makes more sense though haha.
any snakes?
None that I noticed at least!
