Hello everybody. This body of stories Otis is putting out is a real treasure. Only 32K subs? I’m feeling a little guilty for keeping this to myself.. Let’s share this channel out with our friends and get the subs it rightly deserves. Gold!
"One Rainy Wish". I've always liked Jimi's slower melodic songs the best. I also loved hearing him play an acoustic guitar. Thanks, I could literally listen to these stories all day long and never get tired of them
Those Ron Wood solo LPs are great. Every one of them. That's how Bob Dylan and Ronnie met because they ended up at the same party together and Bob wanted to talk to Ronnie because he was a fan of Ron's then-new first record called I've Got My Own Record To Do. Another one of my favorites is his second LP called Now Look but there all real good. You won"t go wrong buying any of them.
Otis, I was in high school in the late 60's when I discovered Jimi, and It changed my musical sensibilities. I know it"s not a deep track but when FIRE lights up the speakers in my car for 2 min and 30 seconds I'm in a different place! thanks again Otis- - - David
One of the great gifts of this channel is prompting us to seek out stuff we never heard and also to dust off the stuff that has seasoned our tastes and lives for decades! Thanks again Otis!
I'm not sure it's my favorite Hendrix song, but "Wait Until Tomorrow" is a cool track that made me aware that he was more than just the "Purple Haze" guy when I was a kid.
I love that too. He demonstrates his Phenomenal Rhythm Chops. Tools forged in the Unforgiving Doctoral Journey of hus Hard years in the "Chitlin Circuit"
This is great !! Wood fan since "First Step". Killer gifts. Jimi, well... I recall a story where Jimi was jumping around the studio hearing the playback for "Have You Ever Been To Electric Lady Land" """"I can Sing !!!""" He had it all the time.
The first one I remember grabbing me was You Got Me Floating. My brother dropped that album on me the year of it's release when I was 7 years old. 55 years later I still consider Axis Bold As Love the most perfect album ever recorded. Ron Wood is not quite in his league, but lets not forget that he invented his own unique rhythm guitar sound and tone, perhaps best exampled in the intro chords of I'm Losing You which is still unparalleled.
My current favorite Jimi song is an isolated guitar track from " Wait Until Tomorrow " and an isolated guitar track "Electric Ladyland." Both of these tracks are filled with astonishing licks, and and bends , noted notes etc. Playing lead, with two separate rhythms with godlike finesse. Plus he wrote these songs as well. Great video. I love Ronnie Wood as well... JOK. 🍀
Band of Gypsys Who Know's inspired me to take the journey of learning to playing guitar. I was given the album by my cousin shortly after his death. I was 11 and it was 1970. I'm still picking and still learning. Always enjoy your words Otis Thx.
"Bold As Love". Jimi's humility only made him greater. Ron Wood, and Ry Cooder are the ones who most made me want to play guitar. Ronnie's solo on Rod's "Twistin' The Night Away" knocks me out every time.
Oh man, Third stone from the sun, 1983, and Villanova Junction are my favorite three but even saying that makes another dozen or more jump to mind. Thanks again Otis, the amount of joy you're consistently bringing us is a breath of fresh air in an increasing congested world.
Two favorites - All Along the Watchtower, Little Wing. I was lucky enough to see Jimi a few months before he left us at the Atlanta Pop Festival, July 1970. I was a long way from the stage but the music was clear and amazing! Thanks for another fine video Otis.
Goodmorning Otis, Thanks again for yet another genuinely sincere video. I so appreciate and admire your Honesty Authentic, Thoughts and Unique Interviews/Stories from various Artists... I honestly do not have "a favorite Hendrix song," as there are So, So Many that I Deeply Love..! I'll just say for now "Golden Rose" from his Amazing "Axis: Bold as Love" album is very much Resonating Beautifully at this moment... Take Good Care... Hope to Meet You Down the Road, sometime... ~○~ hlanehowell
May This Be Love. The opening lyric, waterfall, is very evocative of the song itself. This side of Jimi's playing is probably my favorite. Hard to say....
Love this Channel Otis Just Great Content,Right up my street, I love all that music from this era like so many, I’m a Londoner myself Born 73 So it was all a bit before my time but London must have been Incredible then what a musical playground it must have been, So Different to now . I Loved The Faces they were one of the Great Bands of that era, Would love some of your content on them if you have any, Great Stuff I’m really enjoying this stuff ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌞🙏
Really loved this presentation. The Hendrix Enjoy the most is the (once) rare version of the song Electric Ladyland. Jimi guitar, voice only studio cut. I have it on a Polydor Records on Loose Ends. Have seen Ron with New Barbarians and Faces,James Brown too. Life-long music fan.
Even though his death was over 50 years ago, I'm amazed of how much I'm still learning about Jimi & how I'm still finding material I've never heard before. He did so much in such little time.
Jimi Hendrix was a huge influence on me - I remember the first time I walked down the halls of Electric Lady Studios and couldn’t help but feel his presence there
Wayyyy cool insight into Jimi Hendrix.. and Ronnie Wood..! And that WAS an amazing, romantic time.. and my memories are filled with the pungent scents of patchouli .. and cheap pot…Thanks Otis..👍🏼❤️
So SRV playing Little Wing opened the whole world of blues to me. I heard that and just kept going back until I got to the original blues artists all the way back to those founders who never even got to record. For that, it will always hold a special place in my heart. But for some reason I listened to Castles Made of Sand damn near every day from 16 to probably 23. Kinda burned myself out on it but I still really love it.
Man, I love the Keith/Mick Taylor years of the stones - but Keith says playing with Ronnie is the most 'fluid' that the band is. Ronnie playing like a piano player TOTALLY makes sense, he's moving between chords and fills seamlessly. I LOVE his solo albums, maybe more than any of the other Stones. Also, those two records are life changers. "Live At The Regal" is MAYBE the best BB King record of all time. Thanks again for sharing your thought Otis.
Growing up my father only had Jimi Hendrix Experience cd's, so when I bought Band of Gypsy's for my record collection, the whole album blew my mind especially Machine Gun and Power to Love. Can You See Me and She's So Fine are two of my favorites. I really like the idea of Noel Redding having a song to sing on a Hendrix album, which may sound odd, but I really enjoy his later projects Fat Mattress and Road.
Nice Otis, thanks. I read the book and as we know, we loose so much remembering it. I did a doc about Ronnie (black n blue), in my research I found that he talked about the early Birds and The Gods shows when they played together, and how Mick Taylor would ask Ronnie to go on and play for him in his set, he was so down on his self esteem. Ronnie would say as brilliant as he was, and young Taylor had this issue.
I picked up James Brown Live at the Apollo used some time back and I just listened to it for the first time in a few years a couple days ago. Every time I hear it I am blown away and I love that Jimmi Hendrix was a fan of it. It's so timeless!
There's a photo floating around of Jimi in front of a stereo with an Elmore James LP and one of those great Vanguard Chicago The Blues Today! collections.
Otis, I’m 56, I’ve listened to Hendrix for most of my life and my favorite song to this day by Jimi is “Cross town traffic”. Great segment man, Thanks Otis.
My dad had a Jimi Hendrix tattoo and a guitar in my hands since I was in diapers, so I can't possibly pick a favorite Hendrix song. Just wanted to let you know I appreciate the video! I love Jimi and Ron Wood and will be definitely be picking up that book.
And another book to add to my summer reading list 😀 I don't recall the song but I've seen a TH-cam clip of Mr Hendricks hammering on a 12 string acoustic, he stops and "asks permission" to try it again - wow. Imagine where he could have gone if he had people around him that helped him ease back on the drugs. RIP JH - amazing member of the 27 club
Thanks again for the great story. Favorite Hendrix maybe, bellybutton window, too many to choose from. I like Ron Wood 's take on "Angel" on Rod Stewart's Never a Dull Moment "
Otis, thank you for the readings from Ronny woods book, I believe you and I share a certain affinity for this particular band , almost as if the faces , could do no wrong, were able to express their craft without hesitation or limits, and I believe America's only answer to the faces was Otis Redding , maybe Tina and ike ..... I find myself entertained by live faces clips far more than live stones , the energy is just on another level, more like a project then a band. Great stuff, I almost broke down and lost it when Jimi looked over his shoulder to say goodnight, more like goodbye, to Ronnie the night before he passed. I never knew we had another perspective left, almost parallel to a missing new testament of rock n roll....... Thank you and take care
If you love Jimi and the blues, go grab the In The West album with live Red House. It’s Eddie Kramer’s favorite version. I first heard it when I was 15 or so, when that In The West album was a cutout rarity. It’s the most transcendent guitar performance I’ve ever heard. I listen to it now and then, just to be reminded there is a God, because there’s no other explanation for the invention and beauty Jimi produces. TGIF
Heard The Wind Cries Mary on the radio the other day and man it sounded so fresh! A tune I love off Axis Bold as Love is Little Miss Lover drum intro is so badass! And Ronnie W. he is a great bass player loved his work on Truth!
Great book...Ronnie is a stellar player and The Faces take a backseat to no band! Favorite Hendrix songs: Burning of the Midnight Lamp, Manic Depression, Angel, and Gypsy Eyes.
It’s truly amazing how many incredibly talented musicians I know are so self conscious and think they are not talented or good. I just can’t believe it. Sounds like a great read. Will need to check it out. Thanks Otis. As for Jimi. Bold as Love is a fave song and wind cries Mary. But machine gun yep. Can’t go wrong.
Jimi, for all his unreal stage antics and stratospherically talent, had no ego. Earth him in Dick Cavett when he says he’s the greatest guitar player in the world. Jimi said “how about the greatest sitting in this chair?”. ❤️
I am very confused... PP Arnold was managed by a guy named Jim Morrison, whom she eventually married - NOT the Jim Morrison of The Doors fame. Contrary to the implication in the book. Morrison the Door didn't buy diamonds for anyone, not his style at all. I guess memories get messed up over decades of decadence, but I felt like I needed to point this out.
I saw The Experience live in '68. There are so many favorite songs it's hard to list them all so I'll just mention a few, many of which are deep cuts: May This Be Love, Moon, Turn The Tides...Gently Gently Away, Ezy Ryder, The Wind Cries Mary, Earth Blues, Dolly Dagger, You Got Me Floating, Belly Button Window, Bold As Love, One Rainy Wish, Love Or Confusion...
manic depression popped to mind immediately....but with a bit of thought i do so love the version of Goin South on the BBC live collection. the lead runs in that are beyond stellar
I used to build houses in the late 90s in the Seattle area. Jimi's folks lived in a neighborhood called Bryn Mawr where we had a plat with a few homes going up. I didn't think I'd ever get to meet a Hendrix as I was just a dirty construction guy. Low and behold on the very first day, Mr. Al Hendrix, Jimi's dad, stopped by. This became a reoccurring event. Turns out he had a lot of opinions grading, framing, roofing, concrete, everything. I don't know if he was actually a tradesman but he sure yelled like one.
I read the Keith Richards autobiography,i enjoyed it. Can't wait for Rons book,i bet there are some juicy stories. About Jimi, what's left to say? He died young in his prime, never had a chance to make a bad record,so,he remains impecable
I'm impressed that 3 or 4 people mentioned Pali Gap, which is what I thought of first. When WB took back Rainbow Bridge and Cry of Love for Alan Douglas, Pali Gap became hard to hear! The song I thought of second, which no one has mentioned is The Stars That Play With Laughing Sam's Dice. It was on the Loose Ends album, which I got as a UK import. THE MOST fuzzed out guitar sound EVER!!! What a mother of a song that is! I've gone looking for it and haven't managed to find it (unless it's still with my records that have been packed in boxes for 10 years). 😝
I think "Night Bird Flying" is the great unknown Hendrix track. It's probably not technically a fugue but the multiple guitar tracks are tightly interwoven and play off each other. Really beautiful and one of the last recordings he signed off on. Speaking of Ronnie Word there's a beautiful cover of "Angel" on Rod Stewart's Never a Dull Moment, a.k.a. the one with "You Wear It Well," a fitting tribute to his fallen friend. Bonus Rod Stewart/Ron Wood deep cut from the same album, "Italian Girls."
Thanks for the reminder I need to read Ronnie’s autobio. The finally released PP Arnold album is so completely amazing. Such a crime it sat in a closet for so long.
I don't have a favourite Hendrix song, but I love his version (on "Blues") of Born Under A Bad Sign. For me, that is the single best example to show people what was so different about him. Nobody else could have played it like that. Jimi was coming from someplace other guitar players don't go. For me, he played a bit like Coltrane.
Wow I just did a construction job near the Regal and got out and took pictures with my phone and of course I have BB at the Regal,I prefer live at Cook County Jail but either will do you well.
Little Wing will likely always be my fave Hendrix song. Ron's a badass guit-slinger but man, he is a ridiculous bass player...this always seems to be overlooked.
singer P.P Arnold also hooked up with the Small Faces with Steve Marriott when in the UK ... and sung with them on Tin Soldier , probably their greatest song...
Dolly Dagger is my fave. I am glad Jimi immortalized Devin because she didn't live much longer than him. Plus the 60s had the coolest rock n roll muses!
Otis, when I just barely graduated high school in June 1969,there was a three day rock fest a couple of blocks away from the school. Many of the biggest names of the day appeared at Devonshire Downs.I couldn't buy tickets,no money, plus I was way, way, way too loaded to climb the fence, which would have been a bust anyway, because the LAPD was on that event like white on rice.Well,Jimi Hendrix played there on Sunday, the last day.I regretted not being able to be there, but many years later I read in a book that somebody dosed Jimi with some very bad LSD,and he played a very bad set that day.My own personal choice for a favorite Jimi song would just have to be "Machine Gun"!
If there is one moment in all music I've heard that represents my love of it, it's Machine Gun (Live at Filmore East) from Band of Gypsys @ 4:00. That note (x2), the feedback with the Univibe.... gives me chills every time.
Very Cool! I read Ronnie's 1st book "Wood in Wood" several times . The stories... Helen Reddy's bed? Ok. My Fave Hendrix! Song ❓ Fave anything..? Depends on the Day . The Weather. Current company. My mood. BUT❗ "GOOD TIMES ROLL PART 2" FEROCIOUS Hendrix guitar - Insane Mitchell circular jazz drums . Redding solid and up in the mix a little "I Don't Live Today" desert island. On a dark rainy Sunday afternoon " Band if Gypsys" Both sides. You're great. I'll get you some money 🤑
What's your favorite Jimi Hendrix song?
Little wing!
Angel. Found it from Fiona Apple and walked it back to Jimi.
Castles made of sand
Spanish Castle Magic
Hear My Train A-comin' - on the Rainbow Bridge album, recorded with Mitch and Billy LIVE May 30, 1970 at the Berkeley Community Center in CA.
Man this video logs are pure gold.
"Good night Ronnie." Man, that hits deep. 😥

"One Rainy Wish". I've always liked Jimi's slower melodic songs the best. I also loved hearing him play an acoustic guitar. Thanks, I could literally listen to these stories all day long and never get tired of them
"Axis,Bold As Love" - lyrics set to sound with some amazing guitar sonics.

Another one of my favorites is his second LP called Now Look but there all real good. You won"t go wrong buying any of them.
I agree, but and Now Look may be my favorite. Also love Not For Beginners, with Bob Dylan on a couple of beautiful tracks.

Thank you!
Red house still makes the hair on my neck stand up. “That’s alright, I still got my guitar”
He was painfully shy, until he plugged in.
I'm not sure it's my favorite Hendrix song, but "Wait Until Tomorrow" is a cool track that made me aware that he was more than just the "Purple Haze" guy when I was a kid.
I love Castles made of sand
I love that too. He demonstrates his Phenomenal Rhythm Chops. Tools forged in the Unforgiving Doctoral Journey of hus Hard years in the "Chitlin Circuit"
@@nylesfrench3568 Well said!

Manic Depression... Highway Chile... Drivin' South... You Got Me Floatin'... :)
Love the Jimi Hendrix "Blues" album. Love his version of Catfish Blues.
Incredible album. In my top 10 favorite albums of all time, and a lot of folks don't even know of it.
His tone on Once I Had A Woman is 👌🏽
Man...I love those stories..beautiful...sad...awesome...wonderful...thanks Ronnie..my next buy..
Thank you, Garry!
Another really really Goode one...thank you..!
JOK. 🍀
I So dig your stories and and your guests. And, I dig your own music. Keep 'em Comin'!

Thank you Otis...I love these stories you re-tell...and your original ones. Always makes me feel good and warms the soul. Peace.
Thank you, James!
I love all his classics, but "Voodoo Chile" is one of his that not many people know, that I love
Two favorites - All Along the Watchtower, Little Wing.

May This Be Love. The opening lyric, waterfall, is very evocative of the song itself. This side of Jimi's playing is probably my favorite. Hard to say....
I think Little Wing has always been my favorite. No matter what mood I’m in that song never gets skipped when it comes on.

First of all Jimi Hendrix live at the Winterland 1968!

I really liked listening to Ronnie Lane sing. He had a beautiful voice.

Rainbow Bridge: Here my train a comin: Acoustic solo. Thank you Otis!!! from ATX
The song that really turned me on to Jimi was Killing floor (live at Monterey). ✌️
Monterey was what turned me onto Hendrix at the start, I had a friend who was a guitar player that threw this my way

It's a brilliant example of how Hendrix mastered the studio, he really opened the envelope for everyone
I love listening to the early versions of ‘Night Bird’ usually titled Ships Passing Through The Night on old demos and jams.
Rod did a Robin Trower cover as well, Sail'in.
Astro man one of my fav Jimi songs
Thanks for the reminder I need to read Ronnie’s autobio. The finally released PP Arnold album is so completely amazing. Such a crime it sat in a closet for so long.
Favorite Hendrix tune? “1983 A Merman I Should Turn To Be” or “One Rainy Wish”
The whole first album was a gem ...can't pick one song .
Right when I hear the "Hey Friends" in that slightly southern accent....I immediately stop everything and watch the video👍🤔👍🤔👍🤔
In early studio sessions Jimi had them put up some partitions so they couldn't see him sing.
Little Wing will likely always be my fave Hendrix song. Ron's a badass guit-slinger but man, he is a ridiculous bass player...this always seems to be overlooked.
Thanx OTIS ENJOYED MUCH FRIEND, WE CALLED THEM DISCO BISCUITS !!! LOL
I like third Stone from the Sun. Hard to find the original or a version Jimi Hendrix did on TH-cam.
It's blast off time with this number
Still raining, still dreaming + Up from the skies 🌈✌🏻
Bold as Love
singer P.P Arnold also hooked up with the Small Faces with Steve Marriott when in the UK ... and sung with them on Tin Soldier , probably their greatest song...
I'm with you on Machine Gun...Dolly Dagger is up there too...thanks Otis you make the evening porch set and beer sipping..keep em coming
Dolly Dagger is my fave. I am glad Jimi immortalized Devin because she didn't live much longer than him. Plus the 60s had the coolest rock n roll muses!
Been digging "Bleeding Hearts" and "Lover Man." I wrote a song on my channel--"Just Call Me Helium"--inspired by Jimi's last interview. Cheers, Otis!
Otis, when I just barely graduated high school in June 1969,there was a three day rock fest a couple of blocks away from the school. Many of the biggest names of the day appeared at Devonshire Downs.I couldn't buy tickets,no money, plus I was way, way, way too loaded to climb the fence, which would have been a bust anyway, because the LAPD was on that event like white on rice.Well,Jimi Hendrix played there on Sunday, the
last day.I regretted not being able to be there, but many years later I read in a book that somebody dosed Jimi with some very bad LSD,and he played a very bad set that day.My own personal choice for a favorite Jimi song would just have to be "Machine Gun"!
Jimi's last live performance was sitting in for a couple of songs at a War concert 48 hours before his death.
thanks for that info..ive seen war live and they were killer!
This would have been when they were Eric Burdon and War.
If there is one moment in all music I've heard that represents my love of it, it's Machine Gun (Live at Filmore East) from Band of Gypsys @ 4:00. That note (x2), the feedback with the Univibe.... gives me chills every time.
Great channel brother we have the same taste in music so I just subbed you up and hit the bell!
Bold As Love
I know a guy who was looking after Jimi during his last days. Kinda sad stories about him not feeling too good about his career at that point.
Nobody was looking out for Jimi Hendrix before he died...
I dig His solo albums, especially’Gimme Some Neck’ & ‘Slide On This’
Very Cool!
I read Ronnie's 1st book "Wood in Wood" several times .
The stories... Helen Reddy's bed?
Ok.
