- Volkswagen Tiguan is a a 5-passenger or 7-passenger compact utility vehicle that can be equipped with some advanced, even luxurious features. The VW Tiguan compact SUV is available with a 184hp 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder and front wheel drive on the base model or all wheel drive on all the others. Because the all-new Tiguan is much longer than the last model it has plenty of rear seat legroom, cargo capacity and the option for the third-row of seats. The Volkswagen Tiguan is built off the same platform as the award winning VW Golf so it has above average handling. The price of the new Tiguan starts at around $28,000 and runs close to $40,000 in CanadaThe Tiguan is VW's entry into the compact utility space and this latest version is bigger than before and is one of only a few compact utilities to offer a third-row of seats. The VW Tiguan is built of the impressive MQB platform and features a new AWD system shared from the Golf R, plus a new engine offering more usable torque.
I traded-in my 4-Runner Trail and purchased an SEL with the 3rd row. Loving the new ride!

Because the engine wasn't on it was just on ACC so the engine light always appears

DON'T BUY THE TIGUAN AS IT HAS MANY ISSUES AND DEFECTS THAT VOLKSWAGEN CANNOT FIX!!
Welcome to my hell. I leased a 2018 VW Tiguan last July and have been battling with Volkswagen since I got it with the B pillar noise (both sides), engine stalling, and the horrible jerking of the vehicle after releasing the gas pedal. There is a factory defect with Tiguans where the pillar was not properly welded together at the plant so when the vehicle's body stresses it clicks. I have taken my Tiguan to get this and the other defects taken care of and Volkswagen has no solution. I have discovered that the local service personnel are just as frustrated as they are stuck waiting on Volkswagen engineers to come up with a solution. I opened a case with VW of America to buy back my Tiguan and after months of back and forth nonsense, VW of America basically said that is the way the Tiguan functions so too bad. Once again Volkswagen has cheated their customers by ignoring a defect and not fessing up to it. So either we all get together and complain to Volkswagen, better business bureau or suffer. This is my 7th Volkswagen and my last. Good luck to all who are suffering with the Tiguans' defects.
Sounds like my 2001.5 GTI. For a new car it had lots of rattles. Had to replace all engine coils before it was 2 years old. (Luckily under warranty.) For a GTI the suspension was crap. The suspension on my CX-5 is much better. Pretty sure I will stay clear of Volkswagens.

Great video guys in the U.K. this LWB version is called the Tiguan Allspace! The next Volkswagen Tiguan in Europe is going to be like the Audi Q3 with the coupe style rear and that is due out 2022/2023 so that will be interesting 🤔

Once my Golf R is paid off I plan to buy the SEL Premium R-Line. I don't want the 3rd row seating because I'd rather have more room in the back hatch.

How do you feel with the lack of a center console to lean on? The storage area is great but my feeling is there is nothing to lean a shoulder on. Totally personal preference I realize but seems like this lack long term may not be so comfortable. I rented a Tiguan for a while and while I loved everything about it, I felt like this lack left the shoulders tired on long drives. Thanks for your thoughts!
This has major intake valve carbon build ups. It's a GDI engine after all. So the more miles you pack on, the worse the build up.

Great quality camera work! I test drove one of these on the weekend along with an Atlas. I have to say, despite the decent torque figures it felt slow. I think there's a real opportunity for a manufacturer to make a GTI-esque compact crossover. So many of these mini-utes have a sporting design but nothing to back it up. In Europe they've got the SQ3 and soon an RSQ3. BMW really needs a X2M40i. VW, Subaru, Mazda and Honda could make some really exciting mini SUV's if they wanted to. They already have the engines! - but I guess the market just isn't there.

I think this and the CX5 are the best in class hands down.
CX5 looks great on the road, everytime I see one I think "wow that design is very coherent and looks cool"
My wife drives a CX-5. It's a really great overall SUV. Really the best all around. However, she and I think a Tiquan is her next vehicle. I had a 2010 Tiquan and loved it. However, like all VW's I've had, reliability is always a rollercoaster. Some years good, some bad. Mazda is generally very good across the board, as are most Japanese makes. Even many American made vehicles are pretty reliable these days. VW is a concern, but I just really like them. It seems that no one has more scandals historically then VW as well. From a design that stemmed from Nazi's , literally. To the Bus that was one of the most unsafe vehicles ever made, I had one and still loved it. Then we can't forget Diesel gate. Just a few years ago. By the way, my father in law had a Jetta Diesel and VW was horrible about taking it back, eventually they did. Then again, nobody is perfect, right?.
ggolds5 I don’t think their build quality or attention to detail can touch a current Mazda. They have a very clean look but that comes with a lot of flat and straight edge plastics on the interior.

Dithh vw is The worst automaker in history
I'd take the CX5 over both.... only gripe is the infotainment. but styling on the CX5 is spot on. Don't get me wrong my family used to have all Toyota cars, and I love them but Toyota's design is all over the place. also CX5 has top IIHS safety pick. Hopefully the new more masculine looking Rav4 will also have better safety rating than the current one
trdartz I love Mazda exterior designs, not so much their interior. Plus I'll take Toyota reliability as well. If styling were really important to me I'd get a nx300 f sport.

Ermm.... Maybe because they filmed the instrument binnacle with the ignition on only - hence the engine light on until it is started. New Tiguan has won 1st Place in the Compact SUV class in the 2019 UK JD Power Dependability study. Pretty much says it all, even though the haters won't like to hear that.
I congratulate VW for having Toyota/Aisin build the transmission. When TMC builds the whole car I might think about buying one.

@@green-grass. Driving my 7th VW/Audi product over the last 30 years and no real problems with any of them. So far my 2019 Tiguan has been trouble free for 16,000 miles. My wife's 2017 Golf has been trouble free as well.
And the Toyota/asin transmission is its worst attribute.

I have all the reasons to erase the day from my memory when I stepped in to buy VW Tiguan 2019 Highline Rline. The dealer Dilawari at VW 401 Dixie Road delivered me a faulty product. The sun shade was not opening and they had to order parts to fix it and they took 3 days to fix the problem in the brand new car. Worst experience followed by another worst experience when I noticed after I got my car back that the brand new trunk cabin cover of mine is replaced by an old one! yes you read me right this is kind of shady. Now I have to visit them again to get it sorted. Car has issue with rear traffic monitor and couple of other issues that I reported to them. But as usual sales people just want to sell the car and after the sell the car and its problems are not their concern!. Sad but I have to live with this problem for coming years.

Interesting. I'm interested in the 2019 Jetta, which uses the same Asin 8-speed transmission as the Tiguan. Some Jetta owners are reporting odd transmission behavior and sounds, particularly in Eco driving mode, so I thought I'd start researching how the same transmission does on the Tiguan. At about 3:30, you begin describing "funny" transmission behavior on the Tiguan, which some Jetta owners are reporting at 3rd and 5th gears, accompanied by a "huffing, breathing, or grinding" sound. Many remedy it by driving in Sport mode, just as you did on the Tiguan. VW is telling Jetta owners that there's nothing wrong with the transmission and the sound is normal. You guys did a nice review of the Jetta but didn't report any "funny" transmission behavior. To your recollection, is what you're describing on the Tiguan something you experienced on the Jetta?
Missing the direct cross shop models. Nice review otherwise... Is the CX-5 getting a 2.5 Turbo or 2.2 diesel to compete? Until then the CX-5 is just not on my list.

Rav 4 is more reliable....v.w. tiguan has so much problems....headaches after headaches.....carbon build up, brake issues....problems after problems...good luck.

Lease a tiguan, they are baddass until they break down. Buy a rav4 if you intend to keep it. Honda sucks now, they fall apart quick.

Too big for the city. The only cool thing about this Tiguan is the color. It’s way too big. I still love the 2016. Just wish it had more tech like park assist and lane departure sensor. Sorry Volkswagen you were number one until you made this giant.

Why does VW make so much less horsepower and torque with there 2 liter turbo than any other 2 liter on the market or are they just so used to lying to customers that they made up this lame rating
Chico101 VW 2 liter turbo is one of the best 4 cyl engines in the world. There are many versions of it, and it makes from 174hp all the way to close to 300hp depending on what vehicle it’s in.
You can do stage 1 to have 315 HP.

My daughter has a 2014 Tiguan with 89,000 KM's ( 55,000 miles ) . On cold morning starts hitching and jerking about 3 miles out check engine flashing and sometimes EPC warning flashing...same time EVERY TIME. NEW mass air flow sensor, NEW coolant sensor, NEW coils, NEW spark plugs, NEW camshaft sensor, NEW pcv valve, CRC intake valve cleaner sprayed in intake, LIQOI-MOLY injector cleaner in, NO CHANGE. 1000.00 spent and NOW VW dealership wants ANOTHER 1000.00 to CLEAN INTAKE VALVES which is a MAJOR problem with these things, and I mean MAJOR, it is all over the internet. My OBD scanner says RANDOM MISFIRES, VW dealership scan...same thing. THEY don't know what the hell is wrong with THEIR OWN VEHICLE. IF YOU HAVE EVER LISTENED TO ANYONE BEFORE....LISTEN NOW...STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY from ANYTHING with VW on it....you have been WARNED!

Well, that depends on the price. For the price you pay for Tiguan with gti engine and sportier dsg, we get that in form of Audi Q5. Otherwise we are getting Tiguan for cheaper so we cannot complain.

That SUV in Europe got 6 different engines . Canadian version got only the one that's SUCKED . For the size that SUV should have at least 250 hp . Mazda 5 got 250 hp on premium fuel and 300 lb feet of torque . Hate German's for every future you have to pay top dollars !! Mazda 5 Honda CRV Toyota 4rav much more reliable and more HP . SCREW VW .

I went from a 2017 cx9 to this and holy sh*t this thing Tiguan r line sucks. I kno I kno somewhat apples and oranges but the Tiguan feels cheap jittery and almost like it’s gonna fold like aluminum foil. Didn’t drive the atlas but the Tiguan is not worth the money. Go withToyota or Mazda.
