    This song has special meaning to me on many levels. I was living and working in New Orleans in 1980. My older brother back in Illinois was in the final stages of a rare leukemia. During what would be his last remission he came down to visit and wanted to hit Canal ST and have some fun. At one point we found ourselves in what we thought was a strip joint. After a few drinks the lights go down and Fat bottom girls starts blaring out of the house PA. Suddenly this enormous black "lady" comes out on stage and starts dancing and swinging around the pole. After while we realized she was really a he in drag. As we were leaving we noticed the sign over the door called "The most beautiful boys in the world".....ANyway they always say you remember where you were the 1st time you hear a new song and that is a fact:)

      Yes. Yes. So much yes. I will be honest by saying I have never really been a fan of "Another One Bites The Dust" because it was so overplayed at every high school sports event I went to/played in but the version at that concert completely reformed me. That little strutt he does with the mic stand under his ass across the stage while looking at Roger gets me every damn time ❤❤❤ hands down, in my opinion, best live concert of them and the quality of the film is UNBELIEVEABLE!

    So, I’m gonna throw two very different Queen performances at you cos I know you’ll enjoy them. Number 1 is Who Wants To Live Forever live at Wembley 1986 (preferably Saturday but doesn’t really matter), it’s one of Freddie’s most powerful and intense vocal showcases and it’s a must watch.
    Second, and one much more obscure, is Back Chat live at The Bowl 1985. Back Chat was one of their disco songs from the infamous Hot Space, and tbh I doubt you’d enjoy the studio version. But for this live performance they chuck in one of my favourite May guitar solos ever (no lie) and Freddie’s showmanship make it such a fun performance to watch. But of course, any Queen live show is a win!

    55 yr old Grandma here....having flashbacks. As a teenager in the 70's and early 80's, I used to watch The Midnight Special and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert on my 13 inch B & W TV late at night, which is how I'd see videos like this one. Then, when I'd get an extra dollar, I'd go to the record store and buy the 45 for 99¢. I still have my original 45 of Fat Bottomed Girls and Bicycle. This just made me reminisce about that. You guys make me feel like dusting off my record player and playing that 45 once again. 😉💖

    One of my favorite Queen live performance is their cover of the songs "You're So Square Baby I Don't Care", "Hello Mary Lou Goodbye Heart" and "Tutti Frutti" at Wembley '86. The whole energy and the way all of Queen is up at the front together instead of being spread around the stage like they usually are is so amazing. Great reaction, I love Alex's long hair! You guys work so well together. Not live versions, but you guys have to see Princes of The Universe, it is one of Queen's best songs, in my opinion. It will show you guys that Queen rocked hard in the 80's as well. Gimme The Prize is another interesting 80's song, it is a heavy metal song, with a bagpipe guitar solo! How can you go wrong with that combination! One of my other favorite live performances is Nirvana Unplugged in New York, Where Did You Sleep Last Night.

You should check out Gimme The Prize as well, it is actually from the same album and it was also written for the Highlander movie just like Princes of the Universe. Freddie wrote Princes of the Universe for the movie and Brian wrote Gimme The Prize, it is the theme song of the villain (apparently). It is very heavy metal (for that period). As a vocalist it might interest you, it was really a throat destroyer song. Even if you just check it out for yourself. Queen have a lot of interesting metal influences, you guys never really covered those types of songs.

Also fun fact, Freddie wrote Bicycle Race after watching the Tour de France go by his hotel.

    Interesting that this is not a live performance but is in actual fact a staged performance just for video.
    Brian and Roger have commented on the poor quality of the direction because it focuses so much on Freddie and hardly at all on John and Brian.
    They both revealed how little control the band members had on the videos themselves.
    Brilliant song, the album version is longer and better.
    Sorry that you're not doing so many Queen songs in future. My own suggestion if you want early Queen heavy stuff is Son and Daughter. Please review that one.

    @SNP-1999 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    @Andy & Alex
    A few days ago I highly recommended that you watch the Pink Floyd live concert at "Live 8" in London in 2005 - not only one of their greatest live performances ever, but all four members, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason were reunited there for the first time after their years long legal strife. Playing "Breathe", " Money", "Wish You Were Here" and "Comfortably Numb", Pink Floyd played their hearts and souls out - it makes one literally emotional to watch. Sheer pleasure !
    Another " Live" video you must watch is Queen playing "Headlong" in a recording studio somewhere. The video from Queen's official TH-cam channel is maybe not a true live performance, more of an arranged music video, but it is not only iconic that it was one of Freddie Mercury's last songs he recorded, from the "Innuendo" album, but it shows the boys having a fantastic time together and one would never have thought that Fred was so desperately ill - he bounces around the setting like a young god, at least 20 years younger ! Combined with the fantastic heavy rock music of the song on top and one can witness Queen at their absolute best ! Watch the video, lads, you will never forget it !
    So, there you have my two heartily felt recommendations for your "Wednesday Live" programs, both featuring fantastic bands playing for all intents and purposes at the end of their combined musical careers, united together in their friendship to one another and their love of playing wonderful music. Knowing your taste in music now, you both will definitely love these performances. 😘

    Queen tried to regularly feature their stage act (aka their live set-up) as their promo videos, especially in the seventies, because they wanted people to know they were a working live band, touring regularly and all over the world. See, at the time, a lot of their contemporaries were "studio" bands, who focused their attention on studio albums and either didn't tour a lot or, in Queen's opinion, weren't very good onstage, even though their albums were great. Queen wanted people to know that the quality you got on the album was what you'd get in concert if you came to a show. Remember, this was all pre-internet, so word-of-mouth, magazines, newspapers, promo videos and radio stations were the only ways to get your name and reputation out there.

    I remember, way back in the days of yore, when I attended a church-run disco back in the late 70's, (yes, I'm that old), the DJ made the, 'mistake', of playing this song, to which one rather indignant Victorian misery of a grandmother, (not mine!), complained because it have the words, 'fat bottomed', in the title, and they in their self-righteousness deemed it to be vulgar in the extreme! Even as a kid, back then, I found that totally incredulous! I can laugh about it now, but back then, I couldn't believe someone could be so uptight over such an innocuous song title!
    The song itself is a fantastic example of what Queen were doing in the latter part of the 70's. They were already flying high with their previous, 'News of the World', album, so when, 'Jazz', came along, any single off it was almost guaranteed to do well. And they did! 'Bicycle Race', is the other one, which compliments this song and are, usually, played together, being part of a double A-side single. Another fantastic song from this album, which is unusual, is, 'Mustapha.' Give it a whirl! Edit: You already did that one! DOH! Try, 'Dreamer's Ball.'

    By far and away, hands down, no holds barred.....and even Queen admits it themselves (humbly enough)........THE best live performance I've ever witnessed was Queen's Live Aid performance in 1985 at Wembley Stadium, simul-cast all over the world. At least two stadiums on opposite sides of the Atlantic with over 100,000 attendees singing, clapping along in unison. Freddie and Queen were SO on their game in that ~20 minute set it's unbelievable. I've seen interviews with other acts who performed at that same concert and they were in universal agreement.......Queen blew EVERYone else off the stage; couldn't touch that performance. Best live performance EVER, IMHO. If you've seen "Bohemian Rhapsody", that movie did a spot-on re-enactment of most of their performance (left out "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "We Will Rock You", sadly).....but the music you heard was the real recording, including the crowd reactions. Stunning. I can't think of any other live performance that is even in the same neighborhood of that one. The stars aligned for Queen that day.

    The Queen ones available as far as I know: Live at the Rainbow (1974) - I like this because it's very raw and still quite Baby Queen; Killer Queen had literally only just got to #2, so they weren't massively successful yet. Night at the Odeon 1975 - this is fucking fantastic and a kind of blend of baby Queen and Queen Queen. 1979 Live at the Bowl - also extremely epic, some Queen fans think this is the top recording. 1981 Rock Montreal - this is THE concert for vision quality. The setlist is also epic and the performances are on fire. My personal favourite. And of course Wembley, as you are doing next week.

    Queen is phenomenal live. You MUST listen to “Dragon Attack “live Montreal 81, then “Somebody to Love-Montreal 81,” and Bohemian Rhapsody-Montreal 81
