thanks, didn't know that thing yet, put it on my list ... When I was a teen and in student exchange, the grandmother of my French counterpart teached me the real / conventional way to brew french coffee - just put coarse ground coffee and hot water in a pot and wait for a couple of minutes, then pour it through an ordinary fine strainer in the cup, done. Add sugar and eau de vie (!) as per taste. A french press makes the process more comfortable, one doesn't have to deal with a strainer but instead simply has to press the button a long way down - but at the end of the coffee, there is no extra win and no difference in taste compared to the other method. You have to clean the mesh piston as well as a strainer, means also there is no win, and if you are a fan of multipurpose gear, a strainer is in fact much more multipurpose than that mesh thing of a french press, maybe even lighter than the mesh plus pressing pillar etc - so for ultralighters or bushcrafters etc the good old strainer method might be even slightly better. Still - I am a huge French Press fan. Got at home one which is stainless steel and had cost a fortune, after having crashed several glass ones (which in sum also had cost a fortune). Might need that Titanium thing for travels and outdoors ... ;-)
Ernie... Thank you for reviewing this coffee press. Was able to save $5+/- via Aliexpress. Of course gotta wait a lifetime and a half for it to arrive. 😂 The fact the item can be used as a regular pot was the deciding factor. Multi functional uses are a plus. Thank you again for ALL your reviews. Blessings to you & your family.
That's a good deal for just the pot. The French press is a bonus. If you really want next level coffee, roast your own beans. You'd be surprised how quickly coffee stales after it's been roasted whether it's been vacuum sealed or kept in the freezer. Beans roasted within a couple of days is way better. Plus, you can experiment with how long to roast. Lightly roasted is like a rare steak. An espresso roast is more like well done. Buy five pounds of beans and get half a dozen different coffees just by different roasts.
By a strange coincidence I am looking for a french press that does not break easily. This one was in the final selection and after watching this video I´ll buy it. Thanks for the review.
Woodknot Gear coozie fits this much better than the Bestargot zip up one. I start with the Toaks 550ml 103mm cup, put the lid from a Toaks 750ml into the cup to give me a lid with a handle, then the french press in the coozie nests inside the cup. Everything fits inside that padded mesh stuff sack. Nice compact system. Carry it, along with a Trangia Triangle, on my motorcycle for roadside coffee
Whoa! I didn't know I could get a handheld grinder! 😍 I just discovered your channel. Thanks for the great content! Next thing I'm going to do is check out your coffee playlist. 😊
@6:05 the french press filter, in reality you only use it/push it down when brewing is finished and you are serving/decanting coffee. So long as the filter fits other pots, you can keep the pot covered with their regular lid during brewing, then for serving swap the lid for the filter and push it down.
Great review! I hadn’t even noticed yours had the stainless steel knob. I just purchased one and it comes with a wooden knob. Was $33 after a coupon on Amazon. Looks great I’m hoping it fits inside of my nature hike woodstove with folding legs and pot supports. We’ll see if the two Ness together.
I would purchase this item if there were three upgrades. 1) The press rod was two pieces like the Jetboil. With two pcs. I can drink out of the heating vessel w/o removing the press. 2) Move the handles 90 degrees around the cup base so I could drink out of the cup 180 deg. opposite of the pour spout....that is under one of the bale brackets. 3). Upgrade the bag so it would also insulate the cup ( ie. coozy). Ti cools quickly and I like my coffee in about 6oz cups...not 2-2 1/2 cups at a time. Thanks Ernie, great item that for me just needs a little tweaking.
I know this is late, but use a Toaks 750ml pot with the bail, add the JetBoil silicone press from zip/micromo and drill a hole in the lid of the Toaks if you cant manage the press without. Ticks all your boxes I think? ...edited to add, you can just unscrew the shaft of the press and leave the mesh in the bottom of the cup and then just drink straight from it.
It's nice when a piece of camping gear will do more then one job. Someone at Bestargot had their thinking cap on when they designed that French Press , must of been a hiker. I'm a Neanderthal ( Geezer ) since I use a Vargo Titanium coffee filter. That Evernew titanium Appalachian set has been stand by ( for a lot of years ) when using alcohol for cooking.
👏👏👏This... THIS combo in particular it's defenetly the best option from ALL the options for a good coffee in the field that you PH has showed for eather car weekend camping to long distance hike. As much as for the pot and the grinder... 👏👏👏
I use a bestargot pot for my mug, not the french press. It is the best I have found for my morning tea. I like the cozy it comes with as well, not the stuff sack. However you might not know that makes this the perfect camp mug for me is that the lid from an Ozarks trail tumbler will fit perfectly on the 750 pot. That lets you have insulation for your drink and from the pot as well as a bit of spill protection.
Cowboy coffee is a tried & true method, French pressed coffee vs Cowboy coffee is like comparing: delicious too mediocre . Technically they both a Coffee..however taste buds come in too play & add in grinding your own coffee beans..well can't express well enough to accurately describe the vast difference between the two cups of Joe. Best of luck & expand the richness of Coffee ☕.
Looks good. As you mention something to turn the knob into a pot lid lifter would be a nice inclusion but I;m sure there's something knocking around that will do the job.
You should buy a Timemore Nano coffee grinder. It's heavy, but man is it good quality. I bring it backpacking because it just feels so darn good to use!
If the only other use for the pot is boiling water could you not leave the press assembled? One could even have the press pushed down while boiling. Thanks!
Granted this is two years later I finally broke down I got bestartgot French TEA press. Now no more bags of tea crumbs, nothing but full leaf delight tea. I have always, since a child, loved the smell of coffee but was never able to abide by the taste. Now I can make tea the way it’s been made for 1000’s of years. I under stand about the modifications that need to be made. Well now they’ve started. It now comes with press comes with a wooden handle. I’ll never go back to bags on the trail again except maybe when light weight backpacking (sans tent, etc…) and then the weight is so light I might not give up the delight of my morning. A fresh cup of whole leaf tea. It will be like having a caterer along to take care of the food.
Toaks makes one. Toaks Maxi outdoors camping camping tableware coffee pot. Google it on Aliexpress. It’s a titanium espresso coffee maker. Two models available 200 or 400ml.
Have you actually tried this press inside the toaks 750? I think the toaks is like 94mm diameter, you said this is 100m? Im looking for just the press part, so far my best option is the jetboil one, can you suggest any others?
I bought this during covid. shocked how simple and light it was. often make it at home now- such a great pot and French press! so simple! fyi: amazon now sells JUST THE PRESS FOR 10$$$$$ fits TOAKS 550-650-750!!!!!!!
I wish i would have seen this about a month ago! I had an old French press screen (i broke the glass beaker) and i'd bet it would have fit right into my pot to make a diy version of this...
French press coffee is the best coffee. However, cleaning the coffee grounds out of a french press is difficult to me without running water. I usually settle for cowboy coffee because it's easier to clean up just a pot. How do you clean up a french press in the woods, Ernie?
Instant coffee is amazing in the back country. I actually drink it at home too sometimes when I’m in a hurry. I’m a total coffee aficionado and I love instant coffee. It’s so simple and you can make it delicious by premixing the crystals with cool water before you add the hot water. Best part of all, zero cleanup.
Same here, only if we camp near water, otherwise too messy. Same for a percolator, but I do love both ways to make coffee. You either use a bunch of paper towels or a lot of water. I've recently been turned onto the Aeropress which initially seemed ridiculous but actually makes good coffee and creates nearly zero mess. Weighs very little, is extremely durable so far, easy to use. It does however take proprietary filters but that's not a deal breaker for me.
I've been eyeing this for a year or so. The only thing I don't like is the bail. Don't get me wrong it 100% has its place but I just don't care for it.
The only problem with the titanium cup is that it’s not insulated. That coffee cools down really fast. If you want hot coffee you better chug it, I think I’m going to pack my heavier plastic insulated French press mug.
His coffee looked like tea to me. Not all 330 million Americans drink weak coffee. French Press coffee is great, on the trail even better. I like my coffee strong enough to jolt me awake!
thanks, didn't know that thing yet, put it on my list ...

Hi, Ernie I have been using this product for about a year now. It is a great piece of kit
Replaced the heavy stainless knob on mine by a stainless wingnut. Much smaller and lighter. Works fine.
I bought one of these three years ago and came to some of the same conclusions. Great video . Thank you
Coffee gives me heartburn I don't drink it anymore. But I still enjoy watching you make it.
Ernie... Thank you for reviewing this coffee press. Was able to save $5+/- via Aliexpress. Of course gotta wait a lifetime and a half for it to arrive. 😂

I’ve just bought the Lixada version which is very similar apart from the shape of the handles. Works like a dream. Very versatile piece of kit.
That's a good deal for just the pot. The French press is a bonus.

Great review nice kit
I always thought they were Italian presses , every day is a school day
Best regards Shaun
Looks like it will work better than my jetbool French press adapter. Always end up with grains in my cup. Just bought one . Thanks for sharing😉👍
nice to see you outdoors! Great Video!

IMO there is nothing like coffee in the field. French press is my go to. This looks like a good piece of dual purpose kit. Thanks for the video.
Could replace the knob with a cabinet drawer pull made of wood.
My thoughts also, just drill out to screw size for the hole in the lid
Whoa! I didn't know I could get a handheld grinder! 😍 I just discovered your channel. Thanks for the great content! Next thing I'm going to do is check out your coffee playlist. 😊

Love mine, and if you have the Stanley cup from Wal mart, that lid fits it perfectly if you decide to use it for a pot with a lit.
Looks like they took your advice on the wood top!
I bought one of these. I absolutely love it!

Shipped from Amazon. Can't wait! Btw, you can use it to skim milk and go all fancy with foam😂.
How do you like it compared to the Snow Peak? The taller shape of the Snow Peak is interesting
Good review. I’m trying to figure which I’d like better, French pressed coffee or cowboy coffee. That’s a good thing
Cowboy coffee is a tried & true method, French pressed coffee vs Cowboy coffee is like comparing: delicious too mediocre . Highly impressive been looking for a lightweight press

Does titanium give a taste to the coffee ?
Will this French press work will the toads 750ml Titanium pot

Can you please review the Keith Ti3521 Titanium Camping Cup with Coffee Infuser Tea Maker?
Is there a titanium espresso pot?
the pot and lid are titanium. only the press components are stainless steal
Toaks makes one. Toaks Maxi outdoors camping camping tableware coffee pot. Google it on Aliexpress. It’s a titanium espresso coffee maker. Two models available 200 or 400ml.

Hey Ernie, I love the coffee vids but is there any way you could revisit the jetboil silicone french press?
Tanks erni. Luv koffe in wuds
I wish i would have seen this about a month ago! I had an old French press screen (i broke the glass beaker) and i'd bet it would have fit right into my pot to make a diy version of this...
Great looking press
Will it fit into the Simple Theory Gear Standard stove? I know the case won’t fit, but it looks like the pot might.
Woodknot gear makes the exact setup with a wood handle.... for 2x the cost.
They also though have a 900ml version, which Bestcargo doesn't have
With traditional coffee making never been use any filter. It's matter of coffee grinder coarse, if it need.
I just bought this to replace my snowpeak press. That lid knob weighs as much as all of the other components. That’s my only complaint.
Wait... you could use Folger if your going to cream it like that.

@@rws0010 Heresy! Blasphemer! LOL There is NO "good" instant coffee, only degrees of "better than nothing".

I think I want one 🤠
Lixada came up with a knock off titanium as well, looks exactly the same for $26 at Amazon.
see if you can get a 3d printed handle with an imbedded nut with the right thread count
I just checked on Amazon Japan, it's $80 lol. I guess it's a trip to AliExpress then :(
Ah fuck it and dumps the whole thing...lol
This explains why american coffee is so weak. Here in sweden we use fineground coffee, and 7 gram for 150 ml. But french press is the way to go
His coffee looked like tea to me. Not all 330 million Americans drink weak coffee. French Press coffee is great, on the trail even better. I like my coffee strong enough to jolt me awake!
As a coffee bleeding American. I use fine ground coffee 100% of the time regardless of which brew method I use.
"One of those wonderful things" you destroyed with cream 😅
The coffee looked weak for french pressed coffee. However, I like the press.
Looked weak to me too, maybe he was in a hurry?
@@asmith7876 I did get the french for a few dollars less. However, I will be using some Cafe Bustello or something comparable.
I think you missed a way to make coffee. Bribe is a funny like pipe, you make and drink coffee in this. And you use a lighter to make
Did u make tea? Weakest coffee I've ever seen.
