I have a a few DMT diamond stones in the bench mount size which are also "holed". I believe the blade filings do get somewhat held in the holes. A full diamond surface will hold more diamonds and can be flushed clean as you sharpen with a flow of water as you work. I believe it is a cost saving method of construction masquerading as an advantage. 👍 😃

I like the Work Sharp because you can buy replacement plates. It also has storage space under the plates and wrenches for broad head arrows.
And, you can remove the ceramic rod for cleaning by tapping out a drift pin.

A nice selection of sharpeners. I have an old Ez-Lap round model M diamond sharpener that I have had for over 40 years. That sharpener is an awesome sharpener for out in the field. When skinning and field dressing big game such as moose and caribou, it only takes a few quick strokes on that sharpener followed by a few quick strokes on a honing steel to produce a very sharp knife. I also have the same DMT Diafold sharpener that you have and also like it but prefer the Ez-Lap for in-the-field quick touch-ups.

Your rooster is in total sync, Felix, congrats, that's obviously a well trained background singer ;-)
I have many diamond sharpeners, from cheapest Chinese ones to the more costly ones, and I would say all are doing fine, more or less. The cheap Chinese ones usually loose the connection between the sharpener grid (that 50% holes thing) and the plastic under it very fast - what makes them then nice thin and ultralight and such very good for transport 😁😁😁
My main sharpeners at home are one old one from Smiths and a piece from Felco, on tour I like the Felco (again) and the Victorinox, and usually I also have some of the broken Chinese ones on board. The others I use how it comes, sometimes I do not even use them as sharpeners but as fine file ... 😁
That great piece of Felco (Felco 903) is meant as diamond sharpener for gardening tools like secateurs and has kind of an oval geometry what makes it also absolutely ideal for sharpening billhooks or the billhook-like formed small blade of the Victorinox Farmer etc.. - I never could really sharpen them as I wanted with all these rectangular sharpening stones or diamond pads but feel very comfy using the 903 for that purpose. And of course one can use it also to sharpen ordinary Victorinox, Mora oder Opinel blades.
Best wishes and greetings from India, Robert

Though not a diamond sharpener, the Spyderco double stuff works great in the field on SAK steel and quickly brings the blade from dull to near-shaving quickly. If you prefer diamond, I also like the DMT credit card sharpeners. I bought a 3pack of various grits about 15 years ago and they’re still going strong

I just bought a Victorinox sharpener based on this recommendation. Its basically a large, silky smooth, diamond nail file, that eats 1095 high carbon steel. Im impressed. A few light passes gets a dull blade cutting again, and its light but strong. You could tape this onto the side of a Mora sheath and not even notice its there. Thank you

I've used the Worksharp for a while now. It's a great too and a handy size and I have no complaints about it, has 20 degree guides for the diamond plate, but it also has guides for the ceramic rod and for the leather strap. You can't ask for much more. Plus, the diamond plates are removable for cleaning, should the get "clogged". Which I've not had to do yet even after a couple of years of use :)

Hi Felix, look into a Hewlett diamond plate sharpener, it's a tiny bit bigger than the falkniven short stone but has 600 grit on one side and 1300grit on the other. A comment below mentioned an EZ-LAP Model M, I've also had mine for about 35 years and still going strong. They also make diamond plate sharpeners that are far superior to DMT

Not an expert in sharpening but having Victorinox, Leatherman and Moras. I bought the work sharp field sharpener before and test it and it is working really good. Quality price is good and you have few sharpening materials. I even sharpen the top of my Mora in order to use it as a scrapper, striker for the ferro rod and it worked pretty fast and clean! Thanks Félix for validating my choice. Continue with the pedagogical videos, Mcgyver style ;)

The Victorinox diamond sharpener is my number one gift. I own three of them, the oldest is nearly six years in use and lost a bit of its aggressivity, but its very good for a fine adjustment of the blade before stropping. I used it to sharpen axes, chisels, knifes and blades for planes... The first days of use this thing is very aggressive but fine at the same time.

@@petergartner6328 yes it is great, also makes it easy for inexperienced sharpeners amongst friends to fix their own knives with a bit of supervision.

Can confirm that the Worksharp is a very good knife sharpener. I’ve got 2 and don’t regret my purchases at all.

The plates on the Worksharp are removable, (Magnets) for ultra light transport if needed. Great Vid

I love you and your videos. It would be amazing if I could get you to come to Smoky Mountain Knife Works to give a master class in using the SAKs!

My favourite pocket sharpener is the Spyderco CBN/Ceramic Double Stuff. The CBN side is course enough to do the heavy grinding, and the ceramic gives a shaving sharp edge. Add a little stropping compound to the leather pouch and you have a makeshift paddle strop. Also, the sides are angled and radiused so you could touch up serrations. Basically it's got almost everything the Worksharp does save the angle guides and built-in strop. It _is_ a bit pricy though.
