Love how baby girl gets the roosters for you. Brave tell her I’m 69 😮I’m still afraid of them 😂😂😂😂. Excellent video. I truly enjoy watching your videos
You do a great job balancing video making and real life living considering the extreme weather and temps. So many folks only see wgat you put in front if them and not the nany hours you toil away just to survive , often with limited finances . Im si impressed how most of you Alaskan YT channel homesteaders deal so politely with commentors who are less than courteous towards you. We can all express our differing opinions, but as mother taught us, manners cost you nothing but friendships in life. Thankyou all 3 of you for sharing your rooster haul of meat and broth this Thanksgiving. God is good and has blessed you àgain for another year Amen. Hugs & prayers from Down Under 🇦🇺🤗💞🙏👌👍✌️👏👊🇺🇸
Love watching your progress in Alaska. It is all coming together piece by piece and it's so good to see your almost sustainable way of life coming together. However, I am amazed that I continuously see homesteaders making chicken stock this way. You have totally overcooked the meat and it has lost any nourishment it once had. Try stripping the meat first and use it or freeze it, then use the carcass plus aromatics for the stock making. All the nourishment and flavour is there. Skim and store. Keep up the great work and more videos please and thank you for sharing your experiences.
My folks raised chickens years ago, too. I don’t remember too much of the process except the smell of the scalded chickens before the feathers are removed. Nothing matches that smell, thank goodness!
I have my Grandmother’s pressure cooker. My Mom told me she remembered her dad riding the plow horse to a neighboring town to hitch a ride to the city to buy the cooker. He had to leave it in the neighboring town until he could borrow a wagon to go pick it up. That was in the 1930’s. The cooker and gauge is in pristine condition. Too bad I don’t have a garden to can our veggies.
So schön gesprochen ja ihr müsst sehen wie ihr im Winter auch leben müsst und dazu gehört das Hühnerschlachten wir kaufen eben das was wir brauchen und Essen wollen
It's always a bummer when the jars fail in the canner but it happens. Feels like such a waist. Of all our chickens we had 8 roosters 7 went to freezer camp. Im not sure if ill be getting more next year or if ill wait another year till I finish my new coop. Only time will tell I guess. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.
We wanted to jus go down to one rooster for protection and future chicks but with everything up here requiring redundancy, it felt like we should have a backup. Can’t wait to see your coop!
@@LifeinAlaska Yes I agree on the redundancy here in Alaska probably probably everywhere with as crazy as this world is getting but I only have 10 hens at this point so no way 2 roosters would share. I think hat your doing is perfect and a very smart Idea.
Here is a free tip buy a diesel or gas heater once they are going they only use 15 to 20 watts .you could at least have one in your room and one in your daughter's room or just extend vents trust me you will thank me
Those poor birds need some heat get a dozen more 400 watt panels they are less than hundred each .get some real tools .insulate .yea mow I see you have a bunch of panels what I did was clear cut a 50 by 50 area and build a platform in air
It's so nice that ur daughter participates in ur everyday life chores there 😊

Thanks, you too!
You people are great. Love the video!
Thank you so much!
Your daughter is growing up so fast.
I think so too! Way too fast haha
Loved it
Good job! Thanks!
Good winter food there.
It sure is, can’t wait to have it. Hopefully you get a few batches too 😀
When dipping you swish them up and down to make sure the hot water gets in and under the feathers.

Amazing, thank you for sharing
Seems that Alaska has gotten more snow than normal already. We are waiting for a week of rain in Oregon

That frost means outside isn't sealed properly housewrap is great in southern climate you should have ice and water all walls outside all the way up
why did the rooster run away? be cuz he is a chicken lol

If you keep the excess roosters completely away from the hens and in their own flock, they are less likely to fight.
Maybe something to try eventually
@@LifeinAlaskaeating and making stock is much tastier tho 😂😂
How many chickens did you kill
8 roosters
LOL only 6?

We looked into more panels but it is about 1$ a watt here
