Emmigrating soon to a country with real strong and cold winters so not really sure how much wood will be needed in the house but i will just get a massive amount so i'm always in the safe.
Our place is in southern West Virginia. Old drafty house burn mostly oak and maple. Our fisher woodstove isnt suoer efficient either. We usually go through 5-6 cord a winter. We still havent had our first fire yet this season, but its comin quick.
Once the weather gets cold enough the stove is burning 24/7. Our stove can hold coals for 12+ hours so mostly just load it up once in the morning and once in the evening. The colder it gets we could load it 3-4 times per day.
If you think you have enough wood, you don't. You can never have enough depending on your location and the winter there. Here in Nebraska, you can have fairly mild winters or very cold ones with a lot of snow. Need to prepare for the worst case. I just burn for supplemental heat and work 40 hrs a week, so I'm not home to put wood in the woodburner every day all day. I currently have 2.5 cords and will have to ration to make it till spring. Highs in the 50's currently and have not started a fire yet.

That is a lot of wood! It's amazing all the factors you have to consider when you are preparing for winter. Stay warm!
We burn through 3-4 cords to heat our 1000 sq ft log cabin in N Wisconsin
Do you keep it going throughout the day, or is it mainly morning and night?

Isn't that the truth! Always prepare for the worst. Best of luck with the ration, I hope you have what you need to stay warm this winter.
don't burn pine in your stove stops up the pipes
Thank you for your insight! I will have to do some more research on that and make sure we are taking precautions.
Pine is fine! Old wives tale. As long as it’s good and dry you can burn any type of wood. Wet wood clogs pipes.
