I will say I got growth, but unfortunately they never got the size I would like and they never had enough time to mature. I have grown and will grow cane sorghum this year. It is much faster growing and can give the same results. Plan to do a video on it this year but will be a bit before I can do that
I got these in HEB in college station around Christmas time. That HEB had a crazy amount of variety due to the highly diverse ethnic populations in that area.
i live in South east asia so i guess its easier to grow here due to the temperature, but im just not sure of how mosquitoes could affect it and which are the ones that are good for chewing
Yes, if you are doing it outdoors you will want to change the water regularly to avoid mosquitos. There’s also The direct planting method. Be sure to go check out my other sugarcane planting video to see that. I did the water method this time because I didn’t have the soil handy at the time. As far is which sugarcane is good for chewing just do your research on the different kinds. So far the two varieties I’ve grown were both great! Thanks for watching!
The More You Grow thanks man! any possibility that the ones they turn into juice are good for chewing? also, your videos are awesome! cant wait to see the next update!
I haven’t really found a difference in my experience, but the only sugarcane I’ve tried are the ones I’ve grown haha! This green variety that I’ve gotten from the store has been my favorite so far though! Thanks! I’ll try to get an update on these out soon. Grad school is kicking my butt right now haha!
Hey congrats on that! It’s definitely an awesome milestone. It wasn’t as big of an even for me because I knew I was starting my grad program right after, so it’s like I just started again the next semester as usual. Ready to be done, been in college for almost a decade without a break haha! December can’t come fast enough
There’s plenty that you can do with fresh sugarcane! We grow is as an annual plant because of the cold winters we have. When we grow it you can harvest it and press the juice to use as an all natural sweetener in drinks. If you grow enough of it you can make things like cane syrup. One way we use it that not many think about is use the crushed stalks as a microbial booster in the compost. The remnant sugar in the stalks is a kick starter to rev up the microbial activity in the compost. Kind of like giving them a red bull energy drink haha. I like to chew the sweet juice out of the stalks as a sweet snack when we harvest it 😊
Next time I see sugar cane I will look for buds.
Did they grow? I'd love to see a video on the growth rate, the overall growth, and how tall they grew.

If you can’t find any in your area, Aloha Tropicals website has started plants for around $10-$15
I just bought one from HEB in Dickinson, Tx … I have no idea what to do with it or how you eat it. But check your HEB.
