    Oh my God... this video is so much better than the instructions in the box for leafy sprouts. I never realized you were supposed to sit the inner sleeve up a little like that! I wasn't rinsing enough - I was doing mini soaks instead of rinses, and I never saw any instructions about dehulling at all. Dang. It's amazing the thing was working as well as it did over the years. It's even better now. And to think I was already recommending these things to people :)

    I absolutely LOVE your easy sprouter. I've tried many techniques before finding these on your website, seems like it's been at least a dozen years. By far the easiest and most successful way to grow sprouts. I start one container a day and have enough containers keep a steady supply of sprouts going.

    I have this and for those of you wondering, it takes about 3 days of regular rinsing before they are leafy enough to take out and eat. Make sure it is in a room in open air away from direct light though.

    I use a mesh bag. Put the growing insert into drain position, place the whole thing into the bag. Swing it around a dozen times and the sprouts are dry. Empty the water out of the solid contain and place the sprouts in back in the drain position.

    Assuming soak overnight and your 1st rinse is in the AM the next day....
    Day 1: AM rinse & drain PM rinse & drain
    Day 2: AM rinse & drain PM rinse & drain
    Day 3: AM rinse (de-clump) & drain. ok to move to indirect sun to help green up. PM rinse & drain
    Day 4: AM rinse (de-hull) & drain PM rinse & drain
    Day 5: AM (harvest optional) or rinse & drain, PM (final) rinse & drain
    Day 6: AM harvest time

    Great video, thank you. I just can't understand how people can say this is too much work. I have mine near the sink & every 12hrs or so, rinse & drain. If that's too hard, you really need help. Go buy them from the supermarket & contribute to the ridiculous commercial world we live in. Convenience sucks & it's the reason big business gets bigger & greedier & why so many small businesses suffer these days. The more small things you can do for yourself, the better.

    Here's some stuff from the web site.
    To quote one of my favorite health writers, Danielle Milano, M.D. (Skinny is Overrated),
    "You'll figure it out."
    Or go to the web site www.sproutamo.com/pages/sproutguide.html:
    KEY ELEMENTS OF NO RINSE SPROUTING
    - A larger seed mass (to increase warmth)
    - Warm soak water (90-120° F., initial temperature.)
    - A well-drained, non-compacted seed mass.
    (See Small Seeds - use of centrifugal force.) [see below]
    More from the web site:
    To Soak/Rinse - Cover seeds/sprouts with warm/tepid water.
    Lift out Inner Container to drain,
    empty the Outer Container &
    replace Inner Container.
    Sprouts do best if they are well-drained after soaking or rinsing.
    Important Note:
    Small seeds can be water-logged for hours after soaking.
    Use centrifugal force to remove water from seed mass.
    Rock sprouter back & forth.
    Or put it in a nylon stocking or
    a red mesh tube bag used to package 4 lbs. of oranges
    & twirl [the bag, lol].
    Then loosen compacted seeds by slapping sprouter.
    More from the web site:
    (Small seeds can be waterlogged for hours after soaking . . .)
    . . . limiting oxygen for rapid growth.
    To solve this problem place sprouter, with the lid on tight,
    inside of a nylon stocking or mesh bag.
    Then swing sprouter in a circular motion, centrifugal force will drain the seed mass of the water;
    empty the water into a drain and
    loosen the seed mass by slapping around the sides of the sprouter.
    When the water is well drained your seeds will sprout much faster.
    More from the web site:
    • Soaking/Rinsing -
    Warm soak water (bathing temperature) is best, especially for beans & alfalfa.
    For soaking time, 8-12 hours is fine for most types.
    Hulled sunflower, buckwheat & whole sesame need only an hour. [!!!!]
    Use room temperature rinse water.
    • Special handling needs - Alfalfa & Salad Types -
    MOST SEEDS NEED 1-12 hours of soaking & NO RINSING.
    Salad types like alfalfa, broccoli, clover, radish, etc., are usually grown to leaf stage.
    Water [treatment described below] keeps sprouts from growing into a tight, compacted mass,
    simplifies dehulling, &
    rearranges sprouts for uniform greening.
    ((((((At each rinse
    [[[ONLY for "Alfalfa & Salad Types" (as in above video) which have "Special handling needs" ]]]:
    FILL SPROUTER WITH ROOM TEMPERATURE WATER,
    LOOSEN [alfalfa or salad type] SPROUTS WITH A FORK,
    stir,
    skim hulls,
    drain well,
    & LOOSEN.)))))) See Sprouting Notes.
    More from the web site:
    "Because this UNIQUE quart-size, DUAL CONTAINER sprouting SYSTEM . . . is able to:
    *USE THE HEAT FROM SPROUTING SEEDS TO CIRCULATE FRESH, HUMIDIFIED AIR BY NATURAL CONVECTION
    *prevent suffocation & dehydration so SPROUTS NEED LESS (OR NO) RINSING
    *conveniently produce pound batches of healthier, tastier sprouts FASTER with MINIMAL effort.
    *simplify and enhance "Travel Sprouting" and the storage of fresh sprouts in the refrigerator.
    Again, to quote Dr. Milano, "You'll figure it out." Hopefully, i will, too! :)

    Hi and thanks for the video. I just started sprouting aprx 6 months ago. I have a jar sprouter with the ss screen lid and black cover. My question is do I not need the black cover after a few days? It looks like your sprouter gets some light and my biggest issue is wondering how long to keep sprouting before putting in light? Hopefully this makes sense.

    I get the gist but how many days was that?

  • @rawmark
    @rawmark 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    i'm guessing the reason my sprouts have been doing poorly is because I've kept them in the kitchen cupboard for the first few days and I haven't been breaking up the sprouts. Hmm. I'm wondering if by not doing this it's causing the sprouts to suffocate because not enough air is getting to all the sprouts. The result is that my sprouts rot on day five or six and look water logged but it isn't because I wasn't rinsing them properly.

    How do you snap the small seed insert into the growing vessel? I am not able to snap it into place, no matter how hard I push on it. You can't shake it vigorously to drain the water if the insert isn't firmly affixed to the growing vessel.

    • @amandaWL
      @amandaWL 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m having the same issue. SproutPeople, can you help? Are inserted the alfalfa insert wrong? It pops out when I rinse or shake it so I don’t even use it now but I need to because the small seeds fall through. It’s frustrating because I sprout for a small bird using quinoa, sesame, flax and millet seeds.

    • @lindacannon1354
      @lindacannon1354 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have the older model probably, newer one snaps in place!

    • @amandaWL
      @amandaWL 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lindacannon1354 Mine snaps in place, however when I do a smaller batch it doesn’t stay well unless I’m very careful. I’ve resorted to doing larger batches and freezing them with my bird’s veggie mix for a few months at a time instead. Ironically, I’ve seen another parrot owner who just drops theirs in and seems to have no issues with it coming out (and she sprouts weekly). The batches she does are large though, which probably helps keep it in place.

      Like one person said, snap on the un-perforated lid, put the cup in a bag, e.g. mesh, plastic, etc. (come to think of it, even old pantyhose would do, if in a place like outside) and spin it in circle rapidly (centrifugal force) to expel the water. Get your exercise every 12 hours!
