one of the best videos I have watche recently. Can you talk more about the 'taking off from the same spot - height' for waypoint? I am confused why that would be a problem. If waypoint one starts at 100feet, and waypoint two is at 150feet for example. Why would it matter where you take off from? Should the drone be at the heights specified in the waypoint?
I'll do my best to explain otherwise I'll make a short. The altitude of the drone is based on AGL (Above Ground Level) so if you take off at the bottom of a mountain and go 400ft this won't be the same 400ft if you take off from midway up the mountain and fly 400ft. Technically your are a higher altitude. It's a bit like when you take off from the top of a house you are already 20-40ft higher than you would be compared to taking off from the ground. So when performing waypoints if there a different in Take off Height it will vary. I hope this helps.
that makes sense. but if I take off from more or less the same location, in a park that is all at sea level, I shouldn't have any major issues? @@DimmyV
Great video and I'm going to bookmark and anytime someone asks about waypoints I'll share this. You answered two questions I had which weren't addressed in other videos - issues with relative height of POI and take off, and the ability to manually override speed while executing.
Thanks David. I know what you mean most videos sugar coat everything which is fine. I really wanted to do real world test. Glad you found answers you were looking for. Enjoy rest of your weekend 🍻
Great video! 4:18, the zoom is NOT digital, if you choose 1x it stays on the wide lens and switches to the other lens when you hit 3x. Quality will not degrade with the 3x zoom lens! You can use this option without any problems.
There’s freemode. And you should be able to but I wouldn’t recommend as you have to make very slow adjustments. POI would be better. Let the drone do the work for smooth Hyperlapse ✌🏼
@@DimmyVby freemode I assume you mean flying the drone and using the controller to adjust gimbal tilt. I'm having a real hard time with this gimbal tilt. I don't know what to set it at without using the controller to adjust it.
Yes you can have it take photos you just need to lay markers down. Maybe you can set it up as a Hyperlapse but that will take longer. You can do photos while it’s shooting video as camera is in use.
Great video file mou! I recently purchased the air 3 and this really helped me understand how powerful the waypoints are, keep it up you are doing amazing 🙌🏻. Btw! I am spanish🇪🇸 but living in the beautiful Limassol for 5 years so far…so whenever you want we can meet to exchange some knowledge 😁😆
DJI do have their own software called Terra but this is solely for business. It won't be long till more features come, small improvements are better than none.
I would like to be able to set desired actions at any waypoint as a list of actions, like Litchi allows. E.g: 1. Hover for 3 seconds 2. Take picture 3. Turn heading 15° 4. Hover for 2 seconds 5. Point gimbal -22° 6. Take vertical pano 7. Turn to face POI 2 8. Start recording That would be sweet!
Would like to see the following features added to waypoints: • Selectable camera support • Multiple actions at each waypoint. If you take a photo at a waypoint, it does not restart video recording. Enable multiple photos to be taken at different angles. • True pause function where you can interrupt the flight, take video of your “passing train” or examine an object during SAR flights, then simply resume the mission where it was interrupted. • Ability to add waypoints BETWEEN existing waypoints during an edit.
Oooo I like this. - What do you mean by selectable camera? - Multiple actions is a good one, a work around could be create another waypoint from same spot and add another action. - True pause is fantastic idea - You could just add another waypoint between and reorder them. Hopefully DJI will see the comments
@@DimmyV I’d gladly settle for the video stopping while switching between cameras. Transitions could be applied in post. I found a bit of a work around on the “pause” and that is to completely exit the mission (must return to “connection” screen). Perform whatever movements and camera actions desired, then restart the mission, setting the next waypoint as the place to begin.

Day/night transition was sick
Took me a few hours to mess around with.

What are your thoughts? Which drone do you have?

I appreciate that! 🍻

Very informative… Well done… THANK YOU
Are you able to manually control the yaw and the gimbal pitch between waypoints?
You can but your better off setting them automatically and let the drone do the work for smoothest shot possible
@@DimmyV Good to know and thanks for the reply. 👍🏼
Do you know if waypoints can be used whilst wearing the Googles 3?
Explained in this video th-cam.com/video/UJhrTOVhnAM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Gxo2Xz5XvFSBBpIF
it would be great not only to delete a way point but also to insert one!
This could easily be done with firmware.
@@DimmyV yeah, it could be. Wrote it - as others - already in the DJI forum. But they don't do it

Thats correct, apologies if that was misleading. Possibly I was referring that they cannot interchange during the mission.
Can you adjust your gimbal tilt during a waypoint mission? I'm guessing you would need to set gimbal tilt to manual but I could be wrong. Thanks

It straight forward but it’s the refining of speed ramping and trying to get it as smooth as possible. Happy Friday Thomas, hope your good mate 🍻

I agree about the 360 degrees "idea"
Browser planning would be great. Also tracking moving vehicle or person whilst following the mission - maybe POI does that.
Yeah poi would do that then you can just manoeuvre the drone manually but it’s fixed on moving subject.
DJI should just buy litchi and use their offline google map way of creating waypoint.
