You missed the best feature of waypoint, the ability to change heading/ gimble to manual and have full control of where the camera is pointing as the drone flies it's course. Extremely useful when you want to follow some-one down a road or trail and not worry about any obstacles and focus of camera movement also full control over speed as I have it preset to lowest. Unfortunately one is not able to travel back only forward.
Another informative and detailed Tutorial from a master. You won't remember and why should you, when I started my journey in 2019 at the age of 70. I found you and being from Lancashire myself but having had my passport stamped, have lived in Yorkshire for 33 years. Your help over the years has been my go to TH-cam Channel alongside Ian of London two outstanding content creators and experts in their field, who are so honest that you both share your mistakes with your followers proves we can all make mistakes. It's learning from them that matters. So since those early days and passing my A2 C of C on your advice with UAV Hub you have been in a literal sense holding my hand all the way. My Fimi X8 have this waypoint setup too. Used it a few time with no comm between controller and drone, nerve racking fun.

Great tutorial.Simply love it . However for a newbie i think its wise to set your waypoints in flight mode unless you are not 100% sure about the hights of objects you may encounter.
Now looking forward to the next tutorial how to make great hyperlapses with recommended settings for the day as well as in the dark.
I love my Mini 3 Pro, but I have been wanting a few more features for a little while now; primarily the tele lens (as I love shooting long focal lengths) & a bit more speed/wind resistance and also waypoints. The Mavic 3 Pro was just overkill for my needs and I couldn't really justify the cost for those changes, and still now with the Air 3 for the difference of the M4/3 sensor. The Air 3 is the perfect fit for myself and I'm sure a lot of other creators.
I think its wonderful that added the Waypoints from the Mavic 3 to the Air 3. And maybe they will add waypoints to the new Mini 4 that's coming out soon. Great tutorial, and thanks for sharing, Darren.
Great Video as always. Finding how to delete a waypoint mission was a mission lol. All you have to do is swipe left to have the delete icon

So far this feature is disappointing to me .. for 2 reasons, please correct me if I'm wrong.
1- waypoints works only with landscape projects and can't work well on short distance projects like a targeted house or parked vehicle, because it will not repeat exactly the same position and the target will be out of the screen or not centered most of the time ..
2- you can't edit the arrangement of the waypoints after you set them and if you need to insert a required point in between, you need to delet all your points and start over .

i reckon making the mission in air is the only way to see how the finished video will look as you can't really judge good camera angles been on the ground going off a 2d map. really good for building site progress recording too. i dont really use them on my mav 3 that much though. hope the mini 4 gets them, along with the stacked sensor from this

I desperately hope we get waypoints on the Mini 3 Pro, if not, I may consider investing in a Air 3, the ability to automatically replicate flight paths months apart will result in some incredible footage! Good bit of work Darren. I would REALLY like to see DJI unlock the 3X camera selection in Waypoints vs the 1x-3x we are limited to currently. Have you experimented with "Auto" Zoom? - if a set of 3 waypoints has WP1 zoom @1x and WP3 @ 3x, WP2 WILL smoothly zoom right through 1.5x. As described it depends on the waypoints before & after to get a value. But we could entirely skip WP2 and just do a Waypoint at 3x, fly ro a Waypoint at 1X. SAME IDENTICAL result. If ANYONE has a scenario where "Auto" gains ANY useful manipulation of zoom that can't be done with 2 WP's please let me know what I am.missing. 😮

This is so good tutorial here and eager to do it on my new air3.. Ive been using waypoints using litchi app.. better thing with litchi is you can make waypoints even without the drone connected and powered or even in flight

1) Be able to create waypoints offline (drone not turned on) and then be able to upload the mission to the drone.

Great lesson, I have an Air 3 in sunny Devon and will try waypoints this weekend. Does the waypoint map out the distance you fly? example family own a farm. will it tell me the distance I've flown on the farm area?
Also, can I use master shots in 9.16 portrait mode?

Thx, I wanted to know if waypoints could be programmed on the ground! I'll wager the mini4pro will have this feature. I'll go further and state that I think, based on dji marketing and product improvement history, it will have the new controller and 360 sensors along with ocusync 4, maybe the new stacked image sensor, keeping only one camera. This config. could still be magically brought in under 250 grams- which is the key feature of that line.

Thank you so much. I’m wondering if there is a way to plot missions on an iPad (at 71 the RC2 screen is almost too small). It’d be good to plot on a PC or iPad and save & load into the RC2. One more ?…when you showed you setting a waypoint, I wonder if the drone recalls the stick movements you did during flight?

What we need for them to deal with now is importing waypoint missions from Litchi into the DJI fly app
This is a really useful tutorial :) I've just been experimenting with it and seem to have an issue - it seems you can't have the drone automatically switch between the two cameras during a single waypoint mission - you can have it digitally zoom using one lens or manually switch but not have it do it automatically... do you know if this is possible?
As far as waypoints go, can you save waypoints and get the Latitude longitude on these points? In decimals or degrees minutes seconds? I would like to use them to find fishing spots from above and plug the numbers into my gps units on my boat.

Waypoint; continue on signal loss available in UK?
On a Mavic 3 pro....
Due to a recent crash flying sideways in sports mode maybe using Waypoints might be useful.
I would like to specify the points for the flight but control the camera gimbal and the speed myself.
The project is following fast moving objects in an area where mountains come in play.
Time 08:50. How do I selected a downloaded map covering an area some miles away from the present position? The map for the present position is what I get.

Thanks for the instructional video. When creating Waypoints flight using the map, I notice there is a small screen of the AIR 3's view on the map. Why is that necessary? Can you remove that smaller screen from the map?
Can you start from the ground and it automatically takeoff? And can you put your final waypoint at the same position as your starting waypoint and have it land itself?
Dumb question---I fly a lot of rural properties for business (farms & ranches) is there any way to set a "boundary" that will allow me to see on my map that I've flown off-property? Half of the difficulty in my job is going back and forth between the onscreen and a physical map to make sure I'm getting everything necessary for the video. If there were a way to "draw" the area that I wanted to stay within my life would be about a million times easier. Thanks and keep up the good work!

A couple questions, how many waypoints can you program within a mission? How many missions can be saved? 0:08 And can a whole waypoint mission be saved and reused weeks and or months later? I need to cover a construction site with 7 different missions, once a week for a year
Is it possible to select and go into a previously saved waypoint mission and edit that previously saved mission and then possibly save that new mission while still retaining the old original mission on the waypoint mission list?

Waypoints is available on the Mini 3 PRO - BETA.. Works ok but seems to crash frequently and is only available on Android. No support for APPLE, yet..

By the time you set all the points up it's time to land because of battery. Litchi lets you do the set up offline.
Battery on the air 3 is very good and you can plan the waypoints without flying and save them for another flight
Is there a setting to go around obstacles? I assumed 70 feet would safely clear trees and power lines, but I didn't account for cell towers. Thankfully, the drone's sensors averted a crash. Strangely, it hovered for about 15 minutes before deciding to return home instead of circumventing the tower...

Exactly what I was thinking. While the Mini 3 pro has the hyperlapse feature, this waypoints should definitely be on there. It shouldn’t be behind the paywall of the latest drone.

Why does your screen recording bar show up?
I want to have 2 points and need it to start from point 2! I choose the start point to be “point 2” But when i run it the drone just hovers on point 2 and doesn't run the path reversed! 🙁 do you have any idea?
Would Waypoints eliminate the need for Litchi then? Also if you raise the altitude 100 feet from point 3 to 4, I guess it does that in a linear fashion?
Well meh... since Litchi can't work with the Air 3, yes, you'll be using these. There are however some problems with dji:s implementation here. As compared to Litchi:
1. You cannot plan missions on your computer at home. Or simulate them in Google earth. You are restricted to the dji Fly app interface.
2. Drone has to be on and connected when planning a mission. Drains some battery and is just generally a nuisance.
3. As an effect of (1, 2), no fine tuning your missions to get everything right after a few trial runs. You can, but it's with the drone connected. And in the Fly app...
It just seems a little 1990's for a brand new product.
So, Litchi is way superior as a waypoints mission planning tool. But if you really want the Air 3 (or the Mavic 3), this is what we have to make do with. It's sub-standard, but it's something. And probably sufficient for many.
One thing I applaud though, is that the mission is uploaded to the drone and stored there. Makes for much smoother execution than the horrible virtual stick commands that Litchi and all other 3rd party software has to use for all other drones using the Fly app.
If you currently have a Mavic 2 though, and do waypoints a lot, this is a step in the wrong direction as a purchase decision.
Now I like Darren and his content mostly, but he's starting to sound like a paid promoter in some recent videos about the Air 3 unfortunately.
I knew a guy that used Litchi with his drones about 4 years ago now and the movements looked supercool and cinematic. He did route it on GoogleEarth, flying down into gulleys then flying up and over ridges. Really smooth. The sample on todays video looked okay but I thought I saw some herky jerky. I've got the mini 3 pro, good enough for now. @@olabergvall3154
@@olabergvall3154not sure about the N2 controller but with the RC2 you can plan waypoints without powering the Air 3. I did it and yesterday and it works.

@@olabergvall3154 while planning waypoints with the drone offline is a good thing, I agree with your other points. I wish there’s an option to sync the mission with the DJI account so you can at least edit it in a tablet running the Fly App, same as you can review flight records.

Got no problem with the drone it seems to do nearly everything that anyone could want.
But the lack of compatibility with the RC Pro means I will not purchase, I want one controller to operate whichever drone I decide to fly so Air 3 is not an option unfortunately 🤷
