I recently under estimated the battery power required to return to home and the drone self landed far away. Big lesson learnt. In future I'll be using 33% battery for flight, 33% for home and 33% reserve. The wind was against me on the way home, which I was conscious of, but I didn't realise it would eat the battery as much as it did. 😮 Thanks for all these great videos.
Obstacle avoidance... I find that's it's very good, but it can easily miss small limbs or wires. I've had to replace two props due to strikes on small limbs. I now fly with prop guards.
thank you - I'm just getting my brain around drone flying, and find this type of video both very interesting and very informative. You now have one more subscriber - big deal, I know, but there you go!. 😅Thanks again, Roger
Brilliant video.... QUESTION...... What are the best strobe lights to use on mini 3 pro for night flight???????? ordered one from Amazon that stuck on bottom or top and hindered landing and take off when on bottom and could note see it on the top???? Want rechargeable ones that stick on the 4 legs
I put mine on top, because i dont need to see it from the ground (nor do you need to be MORE conspicuous than a drone already is). When landing, going towards you, you see the built in front green lights anyway. In my mind the strobe is mostly good for making sure helicopters and low flying planes (in the rarest of occasions) spot your drone from ABOVE. So i just leave it on top, as an extra safety mechanism, for them, not for my drone. Edit: or get comfy with landing it in your hand, then you can put strobe on bottom.
Always great stuff! Just got the air 3 and looking forward to using it - I use it for Real Estate mostly - trying to learn how to do POI - for a stationary object - any videos on that?
I wonder: Wouldn't it make sense to fly with 24mm on screen, but still being able to shoot 70mm just with one direct click? Dji could overlay the smaller 70mm rectangle in the screen center.
1.) before the drone lands on RTH, no matter if it's a moving object or not, it requires to additionaly confirm on the RC screen to do so for safety reasons otherwise just cancel and do it manually 2.) while the obstacle avoidance in sport mode is not turned on, there is the PAUSE button to press to immidiately stop the drone before crashing or doing anthing unexpectedly. 3.) the props can actually never come loose by themselves cause the spring inside the housing press them up to hold them in place - double check to be better safe than sorry 4) obstacle avoidance will not properly work for only power lines or branches, that's it. Remember: always read the users instructions before operating a moving object!!!
Great tips as a beginner I did not perform my pre flight checks on Dji spark and after take off 30ft my battery fell off the drone and came crashing down broke camera gimbal
Hello from America ,I have watched over 1000 videos on the dji air .I have to say this is the most informative video so far.thank you so much.i just received the dji air .question, were are you filming from?,😁😊🤗
Ive luckily not made too many mistakes, so far. Biggest one was probably at the very first flight.... I forgot to screw on the joysticks because i was so nervous LOL. Luckily it was pretty easy to use the joystick "balls" with the thumb pressed into the hole to land anyway. Other than that its just been two occasions of forgetting to remove gimbal cover.
The point about driving with the zoom camera is a bit strange to me. While I don’t have the air 3 myself, I was told it has all around sensors for obstacle avoidance so wouldn’t those kick in automatically unless deactivated?
My most expert and advanced way of flying my drone is when I try to fly the drone through a window from unavailable GPS signal because the area was surrounded by buildings and covered by narrow roof and I'm not be able to see the sky haha. It was a complete nightmare and I made a safe return without fail.
Question. About not moving the drone with the 3x camera. Doesn’t the drone have collision sensors? Like isn’t that the whole point of obstacle avoidance? I have the Air 3 but haven’t flown it yet. Waiting for my temporary part 107 permit to download 😊
Thankyou for your great video's I have been watching and learning from you for a month now. I do own a mini 3 pro which I have had a month. I do have a question, like you know and understand there is a lot to watch out for when flying, watching the drone and the monitor and trying to keep you heart beating slowly. I have missed a couple of warnings watching the drone and not the monitor sometimes glancing down to see the last second of a warning. Is there anyway to extend the time of a warning so you don't miss it. Many thanks
@matthew "0:41 show me that Home Point please!? Wow thats some amazing cinematic. Love all your videos and thanks for all the help. I have flown DJI for few years already and would love to see videos of how to "improve my cinematic drone moves". is that something you are planing to make? Maybe I'm too crazy, cause I have seen some amazing FPV drone footages, that I feel my skills sucks. :)
Thank you again for a great video! Quick question, do you still need to set the RTH height when you select the optimal RTH? will height setting influence the optimal RTH?
My understanding is that the height setting will only be used as an automatic backup, e.g. if the drone deems the lighting conditions to be too bad for the "optimal RTH" method.
My biggest mistake: I flew out over a lake before the homepoint was set. I wasn't logged in and the controller wasn't connected to the internet. When logged out the range is limited to 50 meters. And since the controller was offline I wasn't allowed to change the homepoint, nor could I login. So ensure that you're logged in and the homepoint is set before taking off! What surprised me the most was that there was no visible warning about the range limitation.
@@arturonavarrosanchez7162 No, I got it back! Gave the controller to my brother, climbed down to the lake and found the closest spot to the shore where the drone was allowed to go. He managed to land it in my hand via the screen. But before that I tried to login, change the home point and all that while the battery counter was going down.
Matthew I am hoping you can shed some light on an issue I am having with a new M3P and the DJI RC. The touch screen responsiveness is poor. I have to fiddle and fiddle to get the controller to accept the touch command and I am thinking that there must be some sort of fix. I have screen protectors but I am afraid to put another layer on the touch screen. Thanks in advance with any info you may have. Specifically: How to enhance/improve the touch screen responsiveness.
Again great stuff ( although I’ve the mini3 pro) thanks Matthew. I recently tried practice over a river: too many small twigs around around. I thought to take it up t hen through the tree canopy and luckily spotted pylon cables too close for comfort! I was concentrating so much on the drone I didn’t notice my unsuitable camera iso setting: it was all underexposed rubbish!😢
Every time I go to fly my Mini 2 and when I try to take off and only 3 motors are turning (I'm pretty sure its the same one every time not working) and there is a warning saying something like motor unable to rotate and it stops then I'll turn it by hand and it will be slightly more stiff than the others then after a turn or 2 it's fine and flys fine it seems to do this every time. Is this a problem, does anyone know what it could be? Thanks!
Stupid mistake I made is there alot of satellites here but I was walking inside and came out and started flying when the drone did not yet pick up the satellites so I started and it was in altti mode I crashed luckily just after take off 10m away in sand
Thanks for you brilliant video - I am always asking myself "can I fly this path all by myself" or "are these weather or light conditions are good enough to risk the life of my expensive drone" ... and most of the time, I am not doing risky flights with my drones ... and I thinks its the right way to have fun with this hobby. In the next weeks I will get my DJI 3T to make inspection flights nearby my house - when I see the price of this drone, I definitely will ask myself more questions than ever before! I’m planning to buy a drone. This video was so helpful that you deserved my subscription. Thank you 🙏
As a new-ish flyer(lack of practice) these tips are helpful. Thanks for this video Matt.
Very welcome! Thanks for watching!
I agree Matthew’s videos are brilliantly clear. They are my ‘go to’ resource for mini3 pro help.😊
Great tips mat
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
kudos to pple who watch this video before crashing and ruining their new and expensive drone lol. good quality videos!
There should have been an option of dynamic RTH where the push of a button will return the drone to where the controller is.
That would be very useful, especially if your on a boat
@@KingRhoamBosphoramusHyrule69 Exactly
I’m hoping I can program one of the back buttons to update the RTH location to the controller for when I’m on a boat.

The sensors do not work when we use it in the dark or insufficient light. The bottom light must be on in this case.

Using a landing pad helps marking the home. The air 3 detects it some how displaying a drone figure on it as it lands.
When you keep getting error while calibrating take off your watch sometimes it disrupts the sensor
But can you trust the optimal RTH ? or should you play it safe
