Our dad drove to Italy and back in one of these with 5 people and lots of luggage, it never missed a beat and did us proud

Always thought it a clever design - so much interior room in a car slightly smaller than a Cortina.

Crabbed many miles around here in my old Mk1 Morris. Nice motors....

A mate od my dad's had one in this colour but not an 'S'. We did a good few miles in that superbly comfortable car.

Lovely old car. I was a passenger in an 1800S as a kid and the guy really hammered it. Perhaps only when the exhaust was on the way out there was a nice sporty snarl reminiscent of the Fiat 124 saloons since of course the S had the twin carb MGB engine.

Owned a 1969 model in 1973. 'G' registration. Towed a Thomson Glenalmond heavy caravan, with loads of gear, three kids and all their stuff too. 30mpg solo, 22mpg towing. B series engine, never missed a beat. Huge space inside, like a supersized mini. Only job I did was to replace the rear suspension arms (from a scrapyard) when the non lubricated bearings wore out.
A caravanning mate was so impressed he wanted to buy one but could only find a Wolseley Six.. Beautiful motor but the fuel consumption broke him.
Went modern with a second hand 1973 model, 'built' by Red Robbo and his anti British followers. Was horrible. thin metal, sloppy gear change, nothing fitted, clang went the doors. Horrible colour too- baby poo orange.
Then I got a Princess with the B series engine which was good, followed by a newer version with something described as an O series engine. Ghastly, and blew oil all over the underside. Had the engine out and replaced every seal and gasket I could find. No better. Sold it for little money just to get rid. Never did find where the oil was coming from, maybe it was just pressurised and blowing seals. Did have one great design feature, you could change the cambelt in three minutes. Pull off a plastic cover, loosen the tensioner bolt and slide it off.

Unlucky with your `O' series, was meant to be a good engine.

When they were new, I thought they were ugly and a total disaster. Likewise the Maxi, and responsible for the demise of BL. Seeing them now I have changed my mind; they have a certain appeal. I always liked the 1100/1300.

These were great cars they just lacked 'coolness'
