Yeah, one trans guy does well with a high school reunion video and then all of them around the same age are like 'shit that's a good idea, I'ma do that too!' hahaha. But it's cool to see. I recently had my 10yr high school reunion a bit over a year ago, and it was a helluva strange and awesome event, so I totally understand why so many trans youtubers would wanna cover it. It's kind of a big deal. It's a big deal even if you're not trans, it's obviously even more of a 'thing' if you're trans and transitioned predominantly after high school. It's such a weird microcosm of society, populated entirely by teenagers who make all the 'rules' and stuff, most trans people had a terrible time in highschool, so it makes sense to look at what it's like being trans and coming back into that environment as a totally different embodiment of yourself, without all the weird shitty teenage highschool bullshit, and just... See what everyone's like these days and how they all react to you being trans. I thought people would be like 'oh that makes sense, you were always a fucking freak', but they weren't... It was actually really fun and affirming and enjoyable. I'd document that shit too if I had a popular channel where people actually wanted to see that kind of thing. It's funny and relatable for us who've already been through it, and it brings a sense of hope and camaraderie for those who are still in highschool or waiting to come out or dreading their own reunion etc. It's popular as a topic, but each individual has something new to bring to it, and it's pretty cool to see how different people react really. No its not original as an idea, but that's not important, the idea can be used a thousand times by a thousand people and it'll still be unique to them and their experience, so I like it. It's just cool to see how these same things have played out for different people.

And, you could consider Minou and Beauty as your kids, I for sure had fur covered, four legged kids who purred. They were 3 months apart and stayed in my life as long as human kids do, before they move out usually. Soo, this is my opinion: you DO have two very beautifu, well behaved kids. My Siri being hungry would not have resulted in her sitting pretty, she would have yelled at me and rubbed her face in mine for as long as it took me to feed her.

Also lol despite how similar our reunions were, Canadian and Texan schools seem very different. We shouted "senior, senior 2008!" all the freaking time. Pep rallies every Friday.
My high school wanted to do a reunion and my old head of year (uk high school system) asked my younger sister if she could ask me to attend.. I nearly pissed myself laughing when she said she told him I would rather die a slow painful death than talk to him or anyone else in the school ever again
Omg. You’re comment about girls coming out after school and leaving you hanging while you were in school is my life. I was one of the few out people as lesbian/bi back in school (before I realized I was trans) but then like a few years after we graduated like 6-7 girls come out and I’m still salty about that.

My 10 year reunion is coming in December. Im interested in going but also worried. Not even about my transition. More about the lack of meaningful work, the lack of a high education. I went to a suburb school so many people were affluent and went on to get master's or start a business, or become politicians/doctors/police/activists. Are married with kids on the way. I feel like other than transition i havent done much. I just finished my associate's last year, i live with my family, and at the moment im outta work. Its been very hard to not compare myself. So yea working on not doing that, so i can go and have fun seeing people i had a good time with. I loved high school for the most part

I feel like I can’t like this video enough. My 10-year reunion is coming up as well. For a long time I thought I wouldn’t go because I was afraid of comparing myself to my peers that I spent years with (in some cases, elementary through high school graduation!). But when I saw the invite to the reunion group on Facebook I felt okay with it. I looked through some classmates’ profiles and saw that everyone is doing something different, like you said. I didn’t have any strongly negative experiences with anyone that I still feel bitter or angry about. And I’m no longer struggling with my sexuality like I was in high school... I feel like it’s so liberating to recognize you can grow from that time of your life and be happier. This video makes me excited for my reunion next year. Thanks for sharing this happiness. :)

Chase, this is so amazing. this gives me so much hope, I hope to graduate this year and I'm already excited to go to my reunion too! I love to hear this bc it makes me feel less weird about being excited. It's just... I could cry thinking about it tbh... i really struggle in school because of my mental health and also because of some negative experiences I've had due to my being trans (conversion groups, weird therapies, school being weird, etc)... I have really unsupportive parents and can't go through high school as "out" as I would like, though I have found loopholes.. haha I'm even doing a two-year project on trans rights and how to help trans youth, especially on helping trans teens have access to their rights and resources.
Hearing you talk about your reunion and how well it went gives me hope and also helps me think about the future in a positive way. hopefully one day i'll be where you are today and I'll be able to make a video talking about my reunion.

Awww! I'm actually a year and a half away from my 20 year (2020)! I didn't graduate "on time", I dropped out but ended up going back at 21 and then ended up getting my PhD in sociology, lol. I don't know if i'd go to my 20 year to be honest. Maybe, after hearing your experience... i'm non binary too and not really where id like to be in terms of my gender expression so i'm not sure. Anyway, thank you for sharing, i'm really happy for you and this was such a sweet story. ❤❤

I was at Pride this summer, and I got recognized by a guy I went to elementary school with too. He misnamed me, but was quick to use my preferred name shortly after, because I introduced myself to his wife. He had a newborn. It was wild. He was totally accepting too. This was someone I had never thought I'd talk to in person again. Amazing. I've only been out a year, but it's still so wild.
EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS!!!!! It will be my 10 years in 2020 and I'm so pumped to go back to my tiny town (I live in Melbourne now), and after both gastric surgery AND hormones, I'm pumped to not be recognised to be honest.... to be like "yeah, look at how fucking HAPPY I am in comparison to all of you. I've done everything I've wanted to since leaving school".
Most people grow up when they live in the real world for 10 years. Most, not all, unfortunately. I'm glad you had a great time and didn't face any hate :)
Good for you. Never had a ten or twenty year reunion. I'm now 45 and started transitioning. On 5th month now looking forward and happy to be know the person I am today. Once I started I knew it was going to get better and better.

I had my 10 year reunion 2 years ago. I hated my high school years, but I went just for the open bar and to see some people. Its wild how things changed, but not at the same time.

I will never have a high school reunion. I had to be homeschooled because I started living as male in middle school, at which point it became far too dangerous to be in public school in the rural South (US). I would have been killed. Literally.
I'm just eternally grateful that I had the option to learn in the safety of my home and that I was able to continue my education without the fear of violence.

Personally I can't imagine wanting to go to a high school reunion, not because high school was bad but because there is no way I would travel to a different part of the country for that and I can't imagine having stayed where I went to high school. That said, I'M REALLY GLAD YOU HAD A GREAT TIME!!!!

My friend has a cousin who is trans and I guess no one they went to school with knew about it because they never said anything and just went ahead with their transition after school and never mentioned anything about their past at all so no one ever knew them before and after. Once they transitioned it was common knowledge that they are trans but only to those who met them after. When they went to their reunion no one there knew so they kept going up to their old friends and these people had no idea who they were so they had to say it's me (birth name) I'm (their name) now. That had to suck having to kind of identify as who they were before anyone recognized them as who they are. I'm glad you had a much easier time with your reunion, it's great to see you so happy.

I wasn't happy for the longest time but i never gave up on myself even when i didn't believe it was possible. Now i am happy. I got there.
I don't have to worry about a high school reunion, because I was like the only goth kid and I was super unpopular, so no one ever invites me to things or thinks of me when there are reunions. Even if I did go, no one would probably remember me and I've accomplished nothing in life (I graduated in '07). My parents didn't get pictures done for me so I don't think I'm even in the yearbook. I didn't know I was trans in high school because I didn't know that existed, but I was drifting in the middle. Everyone knew I didn't act feminine and I was a huge tomboy, but now that I've transitioned, I kind of worry that if I went it would actually be horrible. My abuser was my high school boyfriend too, and if he saw me transitioned to male now, he's such a homophobe I wouldn't be safe. Yay. High school.
Hi Shane, just wanted to reach out ❤ I'm sorry that even if you wanted to go it wouldn't be safe for you. People can of course change and hopefully ur ex is not a massive homophobe anymore but in your shoes I wouldn't vwant to risk it either. I think those reunions create weird pressure to show off somehow, prove that you are "successful". You have the courage to live as you. You had the courage to have different style in high school even that no-one else got it. I think that's amazing and as important if not more than getting to certain point financially. Best luck to you! There will be other reunions in life that are meaningful for you. Reunions with friends living far away, reunions with colleagues that you actually liked....
@@CaptainPygar That's really kind of you to say, thank you :) Unfortunately my ex is a very dangerous person and violent. I have a close friend who ended up in the hospital after he hurt her. Thank you for your comment though. I was made to feel like such a loser even by teachers that absolutely hated me for the way I dressed, and my home life was toxic. I may not have accomplished anything, but I've tried to be resilient. I'm disabled now but I hope I can find a more positive reunion somewhere down the line.

My high school is so small that my last "Class Reunion" they combined the class before me and the class after. It was my 30th class reunion. Funny to see the football players all with potbellies, grey hair everywhere and people talking about grandkids. OMG I wont be going back, lol
