The best option, in my opinion, is to avoid such establishments entirely. For an individual who carries a weapon, you are up against both the property owner AND criminals in such places.
Many times IF there is a 'no firearms' sign somewhere, it's often a silhouette of a Beretta 92 and a red 'no' sign. I carry a Ruger after retiring my Taurus so I'm in the clear to proceed indoors.
Most hospitals in my area not only do not allow firearms, knives or other types of weapons. I normally carry a small pocketknife but leave it in my car, knowing that trouble exists if I try to bring it in. And yes, they do have metal detectors.

Those businesses which display "Gun Free Zone" signs, are taking upon themselves, a big liability. It makes them totally liable for your safety, should a criminal with a gun, open fire in their "gun free zone". It makes them obligated to provide adequate security to protect you, should you not be allowed to have the ability to protect yourself. I would say the same thing for government buildings, which do not have controlled entry with a metal detector and/or armed guards to monitor the door.

I picked up my renewal Alabama CCW yesterday. I think it's ironic that, they have a huge "no firearms" sign on the door of the office where you get your CCW. This is where you go after they have done a background check on you and verified that pose no threat to them. I carry all the time in no gun zones, the only exceptions are government buildings and schools. Don’t make it a problem and it won’t be a problem. God bless all you fellow responsible gun carriers.
Great video and explanation of this delicate issue. I am licensed Property and Casualty (liability insurance) agent in a majority of the states and I can tell you without a doubt that the biggest threat facing our carry rights are insurance companies and policies that are issued. Businesses and entities, whether they are private or public, are required to have some sort of liability coverage to protect them from a host of possible issues and unfortunately many insurance companies are either ran by or influenced by political motives and most insurance companies are very anti-second amendment. That's just the facts. For example, here in Iowa where I live, our governor Kim Reynolds and state legislature allowed for the legalization of school district to permit teachers, admin, or other applicable staff members to carry firearms. This was as a response to a tragic shooting at Perry, Iowa where a principal was killed. Now most school districts - superintendents, their lawyers, and school boards are leftist hacks and activists, there are a handful (few and far between) good ones out there - including several districts that wanted to allow for select staff to carry, but the efforts were blocked by their insurance companies - meaning IF a school district were to allow staff to carry and set up rules and infrastructure for that, THEN the insurance companies would reject coverage. As such a handful of schools, DESPITE the state law allowing them to do so, and DESPITE the district and board wanting to, could no longer stay in operation IF they created policy for the safety of staff, students, etc. Look this up because I want as many people to be aware of this as possible. We can talk about what businesses do and want and we can even score victories, as Iowa has, in our state laws and codes, BUT the dirty not-so secret fact is, insurance companies are, more often than not, the dark nefarious entities behind so much of the anti-second amendment and anti-carry movement.
My personal safety isn't worth someone else's feelings being hurt. If you have to jump through hoops for a concealed carry permit, those gun-free zones are just symbolic at that point.
Yes, ignore them. Misdemeanor trespassing at most and generally just asked to leave if discovered. I understand private property, but if you're open to public accommodation, you don't get to remove my firearm.
On the School Carry tidbit. In Georgia it IS legal for a person to carry "within a school safety zone" (Which includes inside the building) When such person "carries or picks up a student within a school safety zone". O.C.G.A. 16-11-127.1 (c) (7). Some caveats. It only applies to GA Weapons Carry License holder and NOT those carrying under permitless carry (The federal GFSZA still applies to them) and don't expect the school personnel, or most LE, to know the exception in the law, so best to carry concealed in that instance.
If the 2A is so that the government can not infringe on your right to keep and bear arms, why is it specifically government buildings that somehow legally, violate that right for its visitors?
Because either they have armed guards and are responsible for safety/security (which is how it should be) and/or there's sensative things going on (judicial proceedings) that may cause an emotional response and they don't want an emotionally unstable person responding with deadly force. Yes, Hollywood is overly dramatic, but they make a good point for keeping firearms out of courtroom. Hell, even the tax office can evoke an emotional response.
In a gun free zone if you conceal it, they’re not gonna know about it anyway…so it’s kind of a moot point. I always carry regardless, but that’s just me. Any place I know I can’t carry like a school or a courthouse I just try to avoid those like places the plague. The best way to not become a victim of a gun free zone is just don’t go in them unless you actually have no way around it.
A place near me (wont say what to not dox myself) used to have “no guns allowed” signs in all entrances… then a shooting happened. Now they removed all of those signs from the premises.
I carry every single day . The only place I won’t is a federal building or a courthouse or airport . Malls , stores , restaurants , movie theaters can put up whatever signs they want . I conceal carry and nobody but me knows it . Better to have it when you need it than not have it when you need it .
If it's not a law-banned area (some states treat signage as the trespass notice instead of a house rule), then the biggest risk is being permanently banned under threat of criminal trespass. Sometimes those locations are too important to someone's well being to risk losing, other times it's worth the risk
You should always be concealing unless you legally can't. I literally laugh seeing people open carrying. It's foolish to do so. All you are doing is advertising what a threat you are. Someone wanting to do bad thinks will potentially see you and realize you have the power to stop them so they target you first.

There is a shopping mall in Texas that has a Rules of the Mall sign that is framed and hanging on the wall just inside one of the mall entrances. The last item on the list says “No Weapons Allowed”. If you enter through Dick’s Sporting Goods, Macy’s or any of the other stores attached to the mall, there is no sign. I have concealed carried in that mall for years. I am sure that all they could do is ask you to leave or go put it in your vehicle. They can’t call the police because the proper legal signs are not posted at all entrances.
The sad reality is that terrible people seek out places where firearms are forbidden, but not physically prevented. That allows them to break that rule, and hypothetically, be the only one armed.
It definitely depends on the zone. Obviously, a building with plenty of armed security, such as a courthouse, this should be respected. But private businesses… it’s everyone’s own choice.

He gave me a weird look but was very helpful in getting me to where I needed to be and not mentioning what he knew. I only realized afterwards what had happened when discovering the doorway had a detector. The odd look from the cop made sense. I like knowing there are good LEO's like this in other places too. This happened in an area of my community in a state that has strong 2A laws...
If your concealed correctly no ones the wiser, If you have to use your concealed its to save your life. Break the law and live another day…its common sense
Signs w/o penal codes are NOT LAWS!
I open carried in a las vegas mall, the entrance i used had no sign. Workers kept telling me i couldnt have a gun but nobody actually did anything about it.
In Arizona it’s only a issue if you don’t leave when ask, and if you don’t leave your charge with trespass and that is it
The best option, in my opinion, is to avoid such establishments entirely. For an individual who carries a weapon, you are up against both the property owner AND criminals in such places.
Should I ignore the "Helpless Unarmed Victims Here Zone" signs? Hmmm, lemme think about that one for a second or two....
I do feelings ain't law
This is something I have debated and thought about in my head a lot whenever I see those signs
1. I am not an attorney.
2. Absent 100% enforcement (e.g., a magnetometer at the entrance), _concealed is concealed._ See e.g. US Post Offices.
It depends on where the sign is. Store? Shop elsewhere or ignore. I prefer to get most things delivered. Federal building? Don't go there.
Many times IF there is a 'no firearms' sign somewhere, it's often a silhouette of a Beretta 92 and a red 'no' sign. I carry a Ruger after retiring my Taurus so I'm in the clear to proceed indoors.
Me and a friend of mine always say that when we see the sign... Oh no Berettas ok we're good 🤣
“Gun free“ is just another way to say “weapons free“ (look it up if you don’t know).
Most hospitals in my area not only do not allow firearms, knives or other types of weapons. I normally carry a small pocketknife but leave it in my car, knowing that trouble exists if I try to bring it in. And yes, they do have metal detectors.
Most American video I saw today
Polling stations are going to be nerve-wracking in certain areas.
I have a CCW. Generally speaking unless it's a courthouse or federal building I keep my mouth shut and carry. That's the whole reason that I have a CCW.
I’ve had the same mindset for awhile now. Pass whatever laws you want I’m going to live the way I want to live regardless
Heard a lot of bad things about SDI
really? I called them once because everyone promoting them says if you wanna build drones and fly drones...... well, that's not true. they told me their drone program is only about writting computer code for drones and it's online course. Therewas no drone building and flying when i called in 2021.
If it ain't federal I ignore it out of sight out of mind.
A sign doesn't stop a criminal, another person with a gun does, just be a ware of what place you're entering
My guy! Good to see you this morning brother. In this case concealed carry is key. Unfortunately here in NC you have to have a CCW permit. SC where I plan to move apparently has constitutional carry. I carry regardless usually. Unless there are metal detectors of course.
In SC, signs that meet the statute requirements have the force of law.
I live in SC. That new law is not a complete constitutional carry. Looking through the particulars before you make your final decision. It does have a couple minor restrictions.
Permits/licenses are unconstitutional in violation of the supremacy clause, article 4 section 2 paragraph 1, second amendment,14th amendment section 1 therefore illegal.
@@dragonf1092 that sovereign citizen crap doesn't go anywhere with law enforcement.

MARYLAND RESIDENTS
Last year, a law was passed to make it crime to carry on private property unless the owner posts signage that states it is okay to carry. It is currently stayed by the courts and will hopefully be overturned.
Every Maryland resident needs to support Maryland Shall Issue. Just because the shall issue fight is over doesn't mean the work is done. If you live in a state where gun rights aren't at risk, consider helping groups in states that aren't as lucky.
Maryland, another blue state that hates its residents. I’m glad I’m in Ohio
The law would be legally null and void because it's unconstitutionality dates from the time of it's enactment.
@dragonf1092 the law will be repealed, and we were lucky to get a stay in the meantime.
Same law was passed in NY as part of the "concealed carry improvement act", thier words not mine. I believe it was stayed through as part of a lawsuit.
I picked up my renewal Alabama CCW yesterday. I think it's ironic that, they have a huge "no firearms" sign on the door of the office where you get your CCW. This is where you go after they have done a background check on you and verified that pose no threat to them. (They also work behind bulletproof glass with only a small slit at the bottom to slide paperwork through)
I carry all the time in no gun zones, the only exceptions are government buildings and schools.
Make your own choice, nuff said.
My personal safety isn't worth someone else's feelings being hurt. If you have to jump through hoops for a concealed carry permit, those gun-free zones are just symbolic at that point.
I mean criminals ignore them so why not you.
Yes, ignore them. Misdemeanor trespassing at most and generally just asked to leave if discovered. I understand private property, but if you're open to public accommodation, you don't get to remove my firearm.
yes short answer ,unless it's a courthouse or social security building the criminal does not care about the signs.
Great video Eric and one we should think about ! 👍
The comment section I found interesting and informative as well !
@bradhertzler4451 post office though? It has none of that... just an excuse for the government to violate the 2A.

And yes I jest.
My choice is to avoid "gun free zones" just like I avoid high crime areas.
Yep, I'm in SC and it's the same thing all they can do is say you for trespassing
A place near me (wont say what to not dox myself) used to have “no guns allowed” signs in all entrances… then a shooting happened.
Now they removed all of those signs from the premises.
Yes
quick answer > yes / reasonable answer > yes / correct answer > yes / the only answer > yes
I carry wherever I want to
I've been ignoring them for decades.
I avoid places with such signs.
I carry every single day . The only place I won’t is a federal building or a courthouse or airport . Malls , stores , restaurants , movie theaters can put up whatever signs they want . I conceal carry and nobody but me knows it . Better to have it when you need it than not have it when you need it .
For the most part yes..
Open carry doesn't bother me. It gives the bad guy something to focus on so I can focus on the bad guy.
@mattschmitt9924 yeah, they focus on shooting you first
@@Doc_Hawk best of luck to them. I'm never one to back down from a little friendly competition.

I see guys like you all the time. They always have the shittiest walmart special, non retention holsters that are barely hanging on to their belts.
Odds are you'll be dead or on the ground before you even knew what was going on.
if you didn't carry in a gun free zone and a shooting took place and you got killed, you are officially no longer worried about it. If you did carry into a gun free zone and a self defense scenario evolves and you survived it , and have gun charges to deal with , that's gotta feel kind of special.
Unless the'rs a metal detector I carry. From what I've read is that can ask you to leave, if you don't then police will make you leave, but it's not a crime. I went to a hospital to get blood work and didn't see the metal detector until I went through. An armed security officer came and asked me what I had on my belt, I said it was a spare magazine. She had her hand on her gun and asked me to go to my car and leave it there, never mentioned the p356 I had in my pocket. I, no problem, went out put my gun and mag in my car came back she said thank-you. I said I'm handicapped, and I need protection, she said I understand.
Here in Illinois it’s a misdemeanor on first offense and a felony on the second. There will be no third because they’ll revoke your CCL and FOID card before that happens
the signs with a circle and a slash over a revolver tell me that they don't want revolvers but they have no problem with semiautos
I usually ask them, if they were being attacked and threatened with severe harm or death, would they want me to try and save their life? It changes the conversation considerably.
“If you don’t see it, and more importantly don’t hear it, what difference does it make?” - The Duke of Death.
We shouldnt be asking ourselves the question, "is it worth it to maybe get into legal trouble or potentially me getting hurt?" I ask, "is it worth taking the chance my wife and kids get hurt? Or one of yalls family?" ABSOLUTELY!!! I couldnt live with myself if i let something happen to not just my own wife and kids but you alls family too! My wife and children remind me anytime we go anywhere to bring my firearm without saying a word!
Here’s the best part about concealed carry, nobody has to know one way or another.
They’d have to ask you to leave first before you can be charged with trespassing. If you refuse to leave, then at that point you’d be trespassing
It definitely depends on the zone. Obviously, a building with plenty of armed security, such as a courthouse, this should be respected. But private businesses… it’s everyone’s own choice.
And keep in mind while visiting a National Park that the restrooms are "Federal Buildings".
Key word "CONCEALED"
If they don't know you have it, they won't ask you to leave
And that's basically all they can do... ask you to put your gun away or leave.
I'm covered under LEOSA and never let anyone know I am carrying.
If they don't know that I'm armed, does it matter?
What they don't know won't hurt me. Carrying open is asking for problems, too.
During my time in college, I would carry on campus, even though the school I went to did not allow guns in any of the buildings on campus.
Used to have a .40 shield and I got so used to wearing it I took it into the court house.... that was an oppsies. Thankfully the sheriff's there were just like "sir you can store your firearm in your vehicle" oklahoma is weird everyone either carries everywhere or doesn't
If it's the law, I try not to go there unless absolutely necessary! And if it's a rule or policy, absolutely I ignore it!
