The cardholder one is actually pretty understandable. I can definitely see someone thinking "cardholder" means the device you're swiping the card through, in which case the strip would face away from you.
True
Yeah if I saw that I’d say wtf is the cardholder
Yeah, that's a weird way to phrase that. It should've been "Swipe with strip facing you", not "Swipe with strip facing cardholder".
Yeah, 100% with you on this one. That's poorly written at best.
it's also understandable if it's a card reader behind a register and the cashier is the one swiping with the owner of the card(who could also be referred to as the cardholder) on the other side of the counter

You'd be surprised how easy it is to swipe the wrong way when you're completely worn out and exhausted.
I could totally see someone also thinking the scanner is the 'card holder' and scanning it with the strip facing it
@@Lordyeti Especially if they're young or English isn't their first language.
@@bumblebeeyellowdragon I would make that mistake as well. Nobody ever calls me 'the card holder', so I'm gonna assume that a card holder is an object :P
Yeah, I've done that a lot, myself
I was an RA, and we had a scanner like this to issue packages and check people in after hours.
When people would come in after a late night from the bars/parties, it was always SO funny trying to see them figure out how to swipe their card.
This pic was pretty funny and was literally why I clicked on the video haha
6:34 my friend had a "spontaneous lockdown drill" in HIGH SCHOOL. A student's dad ran around the school with a mask and a gun with blank pop rounds. My friend literally got "shot" at at 15 for a "drill". It's literally just inflicting trauma.
my school has drills but they are clearly announced and usually the teacher will tell you the day before, the most that the principal has done was push on all the doors to make sure they were locked
@@quantum_clips_ that sound reasonable
Oh I know that I'm late to this, but one time, when my older sister was in high school, they had a drill, and basically the signal to start it was a whistle. Apparently on the same day, the gym classes were doing archery, and the teacher uses a whistle as a signal to shoot at the target... Another teacher heard the gym's whistle and.... Essentially everyone thought that there was an actual intruder.
I'm gonna hope this is exclusive to to America
sometimes I think to myself "humanity isn't actually that bad!" then I see people doing so much of this sort of stuff that they need an entire subreddit for it.
There is a good subreddit to so it balanced
Considering there's billions of people in the world and only a couple hundred thousand posts on these subreddits I'd say it doesn't represent the human race.

If its a foreign guy asking a question in English, its not a stupid question but a translation question

The story about the woman being institutionalized and lied to about her child was made into a movie called Changeling starring Angelina Jolie
I honestly thought the movie was fictional and was shocked when I found out it actually happened.
Trust me, as a cashier. It wasn't one customer. It was many.
it's understandable tho
Anxiety is a brat. I know, very deep down, the cashier doesn't care. They just want me to swipe my little card and move on. And yet, all I can think is "They're staring at me. They are STARING at me and laughing at me because my purchases are stupid and my hair is a mess and my shirt is the wrong color. And I panic and forget how to do the thing I've done a thousand times before--stick my little card into the little machine and push buttons.
7:18 oh hey, this happened in my high school when I was 15! girls were told to wear different skirts because the male biology teacher could see up the stretchy ones that were being worn since we were on higher seats at higher desks and the material didn't fall. somehow it wasn't an issue for any other teacher until that one, not the female biology teacher before him who was in that classroom with that layout, not the much shorter female head of science who taught us for physics, and not even the male combined sciences teacher we had when we were 13/14.
i still think the right thing for the school to do would've been asking him why he was looking under the desks in the first place and then fire him.
Maybe the male teacher that didn't mention it enjoyed the view and therefor wasn't uncomfortable with it, while the teacher that spoke up might have been uncomfortable with him unwillingly being able to look under their skirts.
Just a quick correction about the Christine Collins tweet. The LAPD didn't just find a random kid to fake, there was a boy claiming to be Walter (her son) and after people saw he was alledgedly her son (he was not) He was brought to the LAPD. The rest is true tho
13:00 ... can confirm... doctors do have you come in for an appointment to tell you you have cancer (I work on cancer charts). They explain the treatment options, and have a nurse / counselor to help you process the info, and find out if you have barriers to treatment like transportation or childcare. I've only seen a very few cases where the patient is informed over the phone or email... and that was when the patient is already in the medical field and INSISTS , and if it's at a very early stage.
that message looked wrong for several reasons. The main one is "send text to noreply......@....", no company uses noreply mail to receive actual messages (unless they openly ignore them)
I was told my diagnosis over the phone, but only because the doctor who gave me the news wanted to make it clear why i needed to have a follow-up appointment with an oncologist and not with her. I did have an office visit with the oncologist where we discussed treatment options, though.
The one about the lady wanting her kid's feet injected with botox could be suuuuuuch a misleading title for an article. I have a condition called hyperhidrosis, which is excessive sweating. People can get it on different parts of their bodies, and certain types (depending on location) can be treated by blocking the sweat ducts with botox, like the armpits, the hands and the feet.
Just remember 30 years ago the instructions on the back of things told you how to use it, nowadays they tell you not to eat or drinks the contents
We also used to use coal and build with asbestos. Can we stop pretending that earlier generations were smarter?
Not sure if you're joking but both texts have pretty much always been on products. The first is self explanatory, and the second is to avoid any kind of lawsuit. It has,, nothing to do with anyone's intelligence.
If you think people were any more intelligent 30 years ago, you are sorely mistaken.
And to this I raise you, like that one comment chain you probably took this from, that those warnings are written in response to said things happening. So it was those people 30 years ago doing that shit, not us.

Usually it would take about three people before someone leaves a sign up. I remember working at a convenience store. The self check-out couldn’t take cash, so we made a sign that said “Card Only.” Even so, people still saw the much smaller sign that said they could use cash, and tried to chew us out by yelling, swearing, threatening to sue for false advertisement, and throwing items, when it wouldn’t work for them. After the third incident, we had to add two more signs, and remove the one sign that came with the device.
And yes, we did try to tell people you couldn’t use cash on the machine before we added the signs. Didn’t work.
Don't know where you live but doing that in a store here would result in you being banned from the premises and a potential lawsuit for destroying items you don't own by tossing them and potentially assault if the items hit anyone.
@@bumblebeeyellowdragon Oh trust me. They were banned whenever they threw the items at us. (Only happened once thankfully.) We put up the “Card Only” signs to try to prevent that from happening again. And it worked. They didn’t throw a tantrum over the self-checkout anymore. Other stuff, yes.
we had one of those spontaneous lockdown drills. only problem was the teachers were also not informed it was a drill. some teachers barricaded their rooms and a couple even handed out improvised weapons. Needless to say no one was amused when we realized the truth. Why people think stuff like this is ok is just insane to me.
In fairness of the "YOU are the cardholder" one, they could have just written some arrows of which way the card needs to face instead.
Or just a picture of where it should be used and how.
or said "stripe faces you" instead of "stripe faces cardholder"
yea, common fucking sense is a commodity these days
as a non native english speaker, having the card holder be the machine would make more sense when you look at how the word [item]holder is usually used in english. You dont usually refer to a person as an [item] holder, [item]holders are usually objects made for holding other objects. I'd never assume that the cardholder was me when there is an object, whose only purpose is to hold a card, right in front of me

6:36 this happened to my school when I was in 6th or 7th grade. My class of 25ish students had to hide in this small storage room in between two classrooms. Everyone was crying and texting their parents. There were police shining lights in rooms and pounding on doors, and we didn't even know they were police at the time. Not to mention, this school was k-7th, so a bunch of little kids were terrified too. Luckily that was the only time they ever did a drill like that

"No binarie"
Latino/Latina/Latine
@@kiernanhowell-mckinley2306 I've generally seen it as masculine since the word gender is masculine itself (Genero) And I've seen people say gender non binary (Genero no binario)
Also when you talk about a group of both men and women you prioritise the male gender, so it's kind of the default here
I've studied german in elementary, then spanish in high school but could never wrap my head around gendered nouns. (Hungarian here, so we don't have that)
p.s.: at least in spanish it makes some sense, usually depends on the ending of the word (although the only thing I remember from spanish classes is that there are usually more exceptions than not)

Ok on the lockdown drill - I’m in NC, and my son’s school had one last week. The principal sent out a message to all parents advising that it was happening, all the kids knew it was a drill. How this school going to scare kids like that?!? Ridiculous! Bad enough they even have to do it in the first place.
Yeah we’re told when it’s happening that it’s a drill. I don’t get not telling the students
@@Rocco049 I think it would be that, if somebody knows that it's "just a drill" they have a different mindset. People walk calmly in a fire drill because they know there's no actual danger, but that might not be the case in the event of an actual fire. Granted I'm not sure how much that would really apply to a lockdown drill, but that's my guess as to why.
@@JustAnotherPilgrim people walk calmly in a fire drill because that's how you're supposed to walk in an actual emergency.... Panic causes danger, which leads to injuries or death.
@@SINDRIKARL1 Right, I'm saying that part of the reason they walk calmly in a drill is because they know there isn't an actual fire. If there was an actual fire I assume that at least some people wouldn't be exiting the building calmly.
14:12 well in their defense, the “WHAT THE HELL IS A KILOMETER 🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸” is a meme and the dude responding got whooshed
13:08 reading the "diagnosis" text, it looks to me that it could just be an inter-staff message - the line "Dr __ has asked for you to do ... for the above patient" sounds like it's an instruction for someone working at the clinic. It mentions "forwarded letters", and a code, which also makes it sound like an internal message. It's still not a good message to send to a ton of actual patients, of course, but it doesn't read like a text that's meant for *any* patient to get. I don't work in the medical field though, I'm just giving my interpretation based on the information given, so I could be wrong on some part of this.
i hate the fact that a literal POLICE DEPARTMENT reunited a mother with a kid that wasn't hers instead of admitting they couldn't find her child. it would probably save their reputation if they admitted it but said they'd keep searching.

Spanish is a Gendered language, meaning that most words that describe a person can either be feminine or masculine in which you add an A if you are feminine and O if you are Masculine; however there is a movement going around in Spanish culture which is having X added to the end of descriptive words
I've actually learned a more proper suffix to -o for masculine and -a for feminine is -e, and that the -x is an Americanized version of Latin languages, of whish Spanish is a Latin-based language.
So, true non binary would be "no binarie", whereas masculine non-binary could be "no binario", and , and feminine non-binary could be "no binaria".
@@AmEv7fam non binary is an adjective so it would usually go with a noun, and nouns tend to be gendered masculine or feminine. Unless neutral nouns become a thing in Spanish, no binarie doesn't make much sense. In English you have enby as a noun but non binary is also always used as an adjective.

fun fact, pirates raided a ship containing a prototype kilogram from France that was going to be given to then Secretary of State and supporter of the metric system Thomas Jeffersion. Unfortunately, the man who knew what the small platinum-iridium alloy cylinder was died of disease while the pirates held them hostage for ransom. After rescue, the package was delivered, but by then, Thomas Jefferson no longer held the office and the current Secretary of State had no idea what the cylinder was either. It was passed down through a family as an heirloom. There are many factors, but this may be the biggest one why we did not adopt the metric system: pirates.
as The History Guy on youtube says "Don't all good stories involve pirates".
Two fun facts on US metric system.
1. The reason we are on imperial system vs metric is partially because of the British. A British privateer boarded the ship and put into captivity French representative that was bringing the metric system over to President Jefferson to demonstrate it. As it was being considered to replace the customary weights and measures system in the early 1800's... Yeah.
2. The US government actually is fully metric and has been since the 70's. Everything done by the government is done in metric units... ex, fluids are measured in liters, roads are in kilometers, weather is in centigrade. These metric measurements have official 'American' customary unit conversions and that is what we (the people) use.
Bonus Fact:
The reason Americans call Soccer what the rest of the world calls Football is also because of the British. University of Oxford students in the 1880's came up with words to distinguish the two different sports known as football (rugby football, and association football). The two names were 'rugger' and 'assoccer', the latter then shortened to 'soccer'. By the 20th century though, the language had changed and Rugby football was just shortened to rugby, and football was then used to mean association football.
In the US, a new sport emerged in the late 19th century that was a branch of Rugby football, this new sport, known as gridiron football, is what then took the name football as it was FAR more popular and was the source of what is now American Football, taking by popularity the name Football for itself. Meaning that association football needed a new name, and thus, the British slang term Soccer was used instead for association football and became the official name of the sport in 1945 with its name being codified as the US Soccer Association.

I still firmly believe you should only ask a person's height to figure out 1) how heigh things need to be hung around the shared house/apartment 2) Whom is going to grab things off heigh places 3) How big a bed y'all need. Asking it because "Well I want to know because tall dudes/short women are better" is dickish.
Um, one hopes that if the relationship progresses to any level of seriousness you'll see each other face to face and it should be apparent approximately what their height is. Judge people for their preferences all you want, but they're allowed to have them whether you personally agree or not.
@@troodon1096 Of course people can have preferences, but having stuff like that as absolute criteria, like "I'd NEVER date a guy below 6'" is just stupid

9:34 Simple explanation: "masculine" and "feminine" refer to things in language unrelated to what they refer to in colloquial English.

Words that end in "-a" or "-idad" or "-cion" or sometimes "-e" are "no binaria"

Dude literally half of americas issues could be solved with an actually good education system and mental health system for kid in schools and adults.
And universal healthcare and social programs like almost every other country in the world has.
9:29
Spanish changes depending on how the rest of the sentence is gendered. If a different word was feminine, it would be “no binaria.” If it was masculine, it would be “no binario.”
To add on with examples:
-Una persona no binaria (a non binary person: 'persona' is grammatically a feminine word so the adjective gets the feminine form)
-Alguien no binario (someone non binary: 'alguien' is grammatically a masculine word so the adjective gets the masculine form)
We also use no binarie to deal with gendered language
5:50 I find people who believe in God confusing. It's like going to a restaurant, not getting any food and believing there is a cook in the back.
Lol, that's good but it is a bit different. There's a chance you don't order, or are delayed, so unlike the situation where you get food, it's different. A better one would be Going to a sweatshop, ordering a suit and not getting it 1000 years ago, but believing in he sweatshop because a guy made a suit 1000 years ago and it was really really good.
5:17 Two of these I can get behind.
- Replaces conforming with thinking. Think things through, and don't do stupid shit just because your friends are egging you on.
- Replaces TikTok with... well, anything really. However this only applies to a select group of people that don't know the difference between a challenge, and vandalism.
the problem with that first one is that people who use conforming\conformist thinking are the kind of people that think masks are useless and vaccinated people are sheep

I would guess that enough people thought the cardholder was part of the magnetic reader. When put in that context, it's not so cringe, but still :P
If we're talking about effective communication, the person who put the first line is kind of actually responsible since they could've just said, "Hold the card so the stripe is facing you." Anytime you have a sign that says something along the lines of, "Do something with . is 3," you know you fucked up the signage lol
No I get the cardholder one. When it could’ve used user or operator or you, cardholder sounds more the the device even if it doesn’t hold the card
I'm familiar with the word itself, but the machine would probably make me use the card facing the wrong way. The reader is usually in the bigger part (the actual machine) and according to the picture, it seems like this one is different

Look. I get it. If you’re currently dealing with depression or a difficult time in your life, it can hurt to see people laugh and be happy. I lost my grandfather two months ago, and when I see my friends post about spending time with their grandpa it feels like my heart is being torn out of my chest. Does that mean I’m going to tell them to stop posting or talking about them?
This gives you no right to butt in and complain about other peoples joy, let alone the simple act of laughter or giggle fits, which sounds like what was happening. There seems to be less and less of that these days. If you bitch about others being happy when you are not, you are an asshole. Plain and simple.
TBH the line “I sERiOuSLy NeVeR WaNt tO hEaR a mAn LaUgH AgAiN” stinks of misandry to me.
She never wants to hear a MAN laugh again? Then I never want to see any posts on social media from her again! Let’s see how she likes other people policing her social media posts like she obviously feels entitled to do with men laughing!
That Nick Adams guy is definitely something, he also claims that Hooters is a family friendly environment 😂
2:20 yeah that actually fucking happened.
They did a whole movie about the case. I think it was called "Changeling" or something.
Edit: I forgot to tell y'all the best part! That money she never got? That was roughly the equivalent of 185,000 dollars at the time. Collins lived to be 74
Yep. Directed by Clint Eastwood. Angelina Jolie played the mom.
Apparently the reason America uses a different system is because they were supposed to go Metric alongside Britain when we were still colonies but the ship containing the Metric system's measurements got raided by pirates and never made it.
Granted this information is debatably reliable as it's from /r/todayilearned *buuuut*
8:10 bro turned into Homer Simpson 💀💀💀
1:50. Listen, I agree with you. I really do. Dogs are the bestest bois. But my aunt has this one chihuahua that is a literal demon. And not the kind that people are okay with, the kind you want to kick a field goal with

no no, they have a point
replacing conforming with thinking, thats a good one
so you can just think about all the other points in this list and objectively determine that their proposals are terrible
"What the hell is a kilometer?" Well, you see, it's the "klick" unit that the U.S. army has been using for, oh, over a century now.
The "Top 15% IQ" one actually gave me so much second hand embarrassment some that I had to lay down for a little. That's comedically tragic irony if i've ever seen it.
They’re an Andrew Tate follower, so not surprised they have a low IQ and don’t understand basic math. 😂
Huh. I didn't feel any on that one. It's probably because I have zero empathy for any of Tate's fans. They truly are the worst.
highest IQ andrew tate fan
11:35 reminds me of when my church growing up had the bright idea to have local teenagers paint the bible studies room blood red. Eye searing and there were handprints all over the white ceiling. It legitimately made me not want to go to church being stuck in that for over an hour.
Robin has been through enough of these anger inducing subredits, so spread these painful subredits to jack and Lexi 😈
Jack would make it hilariously funny
"Bird leaf" HAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣

Face cardholder with your strip to swipe, strip the holder from the card, add the face to the strip and swipe, your face is now stripswiped. Hold the strip to the cardface to swipe.
every notification of EmKay I usually don't watch the video but I still want to open it in a tab because of the title, the titles call to me but I refuse the urge because I usually have so many tabs open
The reason for the text message is it was meant to be internal to the practice, the 'complete a DS1500 for the patient' was to tell them to start an end of life benefits application
2:15 They made a movie about this with Angelina Jolie called "Changeling". Go watch it. It's really good.
And then go watch "Changeling" with George C. Scott because it's one of the best haunted house movies of all time. 2 great movies for the price of one!
8:02 you called it twitter. HE CALLED IT TWITTER. WE GOT HIM TO ADMIT ITS TWITTER AND NOT X LETS GO

Your telling me literally half of everyone on earth watches FIFA?
I’m pretty sure not even half of everyone on earth has access to a television
6:07 he needs to go outside
For the imperial system thing, it wasn't *too* long ago the last major push occured to transition the US to metric. In the 1970's there was a massive push to teach the metric system with the plan being to eventually transition the US over officially, however it was resisted and the plans were cancelled, however an interesting leftover is a single interstate highway out west somewhere is signed completely in metric as it was built during the failed transition period.
Since 1991, metric has been used as the preferred weight and measurement system in the US for trade and commerce per order from George Bush Sr.
EXPLANATION FOR THE NON-BINARY ONE:
Lets say you want to say something like : "non binary cifer" or "non binary number" in spanish, in english the "gender" of the words doesn't affect the term "non binary", but in spanish it does.
Cifer - cifra: femenino
Number - numero: masculino
- Una cifra no binaria = Correct , Una cifra no binario = Incorrect
- Un número no binario = Correct, Un numero no binaria = Incorrect
Idk if that explains it, im bad at explaining but i just couldn't go on with my day whithout at least trying to explain it
Another thing is that, even if you were speaking about a person, depending of the context, you have to use one or the other, depending on the "gender" of the noun.
For example, If you wanted to say: "I spoke with a non-binary person yesterday" You would use: "Ayer hablé con una persona no-binaria (female form)." since the word "person" is a female noun, regardless of the actual gender (or lack thereof) of the person.
Or if you needed to write "Subject identifies as non-binary" in something like a report, you would translate "El sujeto se identifica como no-binario" (male form).
And I know that "La sujeta" (female form of subject) is technically accepted, but as far as I know its a colloquialism and you don't use it for formal settings.
@@gentleman_oni i think you explained it better than i did 🧍
"Why are you the cardholder?"
"Who said I'm the cardholder?"
"You are the cardholder."
Emkay has found the new cardholder.
