4:09 The water that froze upward is a thing that happens to ice cubes too. See, water freezes from the top down. So by the time most of the water is frozen, there is still a small pocket in the bottom of the container that's liquid. But water also expands as it freezes, so that little pocket is put under pressure. And water ice... melts under pressure.
So basically, that little pocket of liquid water in the bottom of the container gets compressed, and starts exerting pressure equally in all directions (this is the basis of hydraulics). Then that pressure starts melting a thin 'tube' upward through the already-frozen ice, until it reaches the top. Then the water pools in the spot where the tube ends, and freezes, but only a little bit of water can pass through the tube at a time. So the ice freezes a bit further in the bottom in the container and forces more of the liquid water that's left up through the tube, to pool *on top of* the little pool of water that already came out and froze on the spot, and then freezes immediately, and then more water comes out and lies on top of *that* and freezes immediately, until all the water is gone and you have a spike.
TL; DR it's a reverse icicle.
But those 'reverse icicles' are only like needle size, right? Even if you scale up to a bucket, the volume pushed out should match the volume expanded. But ice only _slightly_ expands.
@@suddeneevee9441 The more water you start with, the more expansion of volume you're going to get. Not percentually, but yes in absolute volume. Hypothetically, if water expands by 50 percent while freezing, then if you start out with 10 ml of water, you end up with 15 ml of ice, which looks like barely any more. If you start out with 1l of water, however, you'll end up with 1,5 l of ice. I don't know the expansion rate exactly, but the more water you start with, the larger that percentual increase is going to be in absolute volume.

No. Just no. Water does NOT freeze from the top down, you utter moron! In fact, water freezes from the point of least energy first. In other words, the part of the water that is closest to freezing is where the ice forms first. That point is generally at the BOTTOM of the bowl as the top is exposed to the air and thus is warmer (by a few degrees) than the water at the bottom.

Can you please explain what causes this?"), ice spikes tend to happen when the ambient temperature is well below 0ºC, specifically creating a situation where the air that's directly in contact with the surface of the water is cold enough for ice to start forming at the top.
Sorry for being an utter moron and remembering the physics behind the whole process except for the tidbit that water freezing from the top down is not considered the norm in all cases.
After all, having spent my entire childhood in a place where it freezes in winter, I have come across many a bucket with a thick peel of ice in the top but liquid water in the bottom; have cracked my foot through many a thin layer of ice on a pond and found liquid water beneath; and have caught hundreds of ice cubes in mid-freeze in my freezer, always with a layer of ice over the top and liquid water below - all my empirical evidence suggests water does, in the great majority of cases, freeze on top over a reservoir of still-liquid water *while not in a laboratory* , but I guess I need to be Harvard-educated and know about all the exceptions to explain this common process of physics to another layperson. What an absolute idiot am I.
I had a glitch in the matrix moment once; it was pouring rain, my brother and I were running home, we saw a large full sidewalk square that wasn't marked with rain so we investigated, as soon as we get a good look, it started showing raindrops. We still talk about it to this day.

I've seen so many cars with number plates starting with "1" or "Z" and I guess it just wraps around each time

We've tried and tried to patch this one out, however anytime we mess with anything about the cloud's code, it breaks or becomes extremely unrealistic, so we just decided that fixing the problem would cause more harm then the problem itself and just left it as is

I want a game that has all these glitches, but not as a glitch, but something that’s normal in the game. Imagine you look over, you see a fucked up looking cloud, you’re like “ok, that’s weird” then you turn around and see 20 bears chillin in a tree, you’re like “…O-ok?”, then you turn around again and see 4 different guys who look exactly the same, then you just look up and see 5B birds up in the sky
And the moment something looks "normal," you know you're in danger.

License plates are given out sequentially in many areas, and businesses will buy the same vehicles and register them all at the same time, resulting in the adjacent license plates on identical cars. Happens quite a bit where i live.

I'm pretty sure the reason apples glitch their texture so much is because it was one of the first items they coded in. They made it when in beta testing to see how animals would eat, so they made apples as a test fruit. For some reason the devs kept apples in and idk why they did that.
just in case you want to know the real reason, it is because they are artificially ripened with ethylene gas - they are picked while green to discourage ripening/mold growth during transit, and then exposed to ethylene gas to give them their red color before they go on the shelf. It likely just common for one apple to get stuck in a position, during that process, where a clear line forms because some physical object is blocking the surface from ripening properly. also, note: apples ripen via ethylene gas naturally, but it is done artificially by produce distributors for the reasons stated above

The square lighting glitch is something to do with led lights and the lense array because un like other light sources they are near point sources or more accurately multi point sources and each one gets focused through multiple lenses in the array. You get a strange camera obscura effect when you see such lights shining through trees and such onto the ground. I don't claim to fully understand it but that's the jist of it.

Just realized that I could be on one of those. Once was in a small movie theater during winter and met there another person who wore the same (dirt cheap) coat.

First license plate: In the UK the license plate is based on the VIN of the car. And dealerships buy cars in bulk. So if you buy 2 of the same car they will likely have very similar license plates
USA Cars: Like before cars are sold in bulk. It kinda looks like these 3 would know eachother already…. So it’s not that big of a bet to think that they registered on the same day getting similar license plates

I assume someone already explained it, but,
the pixel shadows are multiple lights shining through a hole/glass at slightly different angles.
All of their separate shadows line up too make a pixel look.
Those lamps have a grid of LEDs, each LED having its own shadow.
@@HenryLoenwind It can be that, or separate lights (any kind) each having their own shadows. Both can cause this effect. It doesn’t have to be just LEDs.
@@Barber-StrunkFamily We get that effect nowadays because lamps have grids of LEDs inside. It was very rare to have it in the past, mainly because incandescent bulbs on their own already have a "cloudy" light pattern. They also produce their light in a much bigger volume, which gives much softer shadow contours.
To get a pixel grid that's so uniformly lit and has such sharp edges with incandescent bulbs would require some serious engineering, including special optics.

Idk if anybody will read this. About that low quality shadows. It's actually pretty normal, but it looks glitched so many devs are removing those. Our devs however tried to simulate them properly so we're seeing those from time to time. They're coused by multiple light sources lighting one object with at least one flat plane (pipe, or chair leg). Becouse of multiple light sources (like five lightbulbs in the office) that object creates multiple shadows. Areas where more shadows intersect are darker. Easy tu understand, but still confusing to look at.

to those who were genuinely wondering, those goofy pixelated shadows are most likely caused by what's called "destructive interference", where waves "overlap" to the point where they cancel each other out. in this case it's light waves, and there are most likely multiple sources of light in this picture 2:51 which causes their light waves to do the funky stuff i mentioned. the reason why it looks pixelated is probs because the shadows are being cast by an object with sharp corners and stuff

So when say, company x buys 100 cars for a state and registers them all at once, the chances of "ascending plates" or sequential numbers jumps majorly. You might see 10 or even 20 black suv in a row with the same number group.
For the apples - that's easy.
We crossbreed and select apples since a few thousand years by now. And this strange color mismatches is literally just the colors of the parent plants showing through. Happens - depending on the sort - pretty regularly.

I'm not sure about in the USA, but in the UK when I worked for a car garage/sales place, we would order and print the license plates from the DVLA, for all new cars in the shop.
All the cars for this shop/garage where German cars such as VW, Mercedes, Skoda etc.
This would result in some license plates being very similar to each other as the plate requests where typically done in batches of say 20.
The cars also tended to be purchased by people locally ( I live in a city of 200,000 people, and a county population of 900,000, so It had a fairly reasonable chance of happening.

The reason the car reg was one number apart is because in Ireland we have a system that every reg number representation when the car was bought! The first car in each county is year county 1, then 2, 3 and so on!
When it comes to car regs/number plates kinda make sense.
TLDR, a fair amount places follow a pattern which makes it likely cars of same class will have regs off by only a few characters.
If you're a nerd like me who cares about this stuff, heres the full story using the system used in Great Britain (Northern Ireland is different) as an example.
The first two characters are the area code, the first letter is a nemonic for the region so N for Northern England, S for Scotland, M for Manchester & Merseyside etc, with the second letter being a DVLA (Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency) office in that region, normally each DVLA office has multiple letters. Using Northern England for example: NA-NO are for the Newcastle office and NP-NY are for Middlesbrough (Z isnt used in the area code).
The next two characters are the age identifier, being the final 2 digits of the year from March - August, or the final two digits of the year +50 from September - February (so currently, cars registered from Sep 23 - Feb 24 will have 73).
Then the final 3 characters are random letters for identification of the specific vehicle.
So all together, a car registered in August 2014 Newcastle might have a reg like NE 14 ABJ. There are few exceptions, some letters like I isnt used at all so as not to be confused with 1 (but for some reason O is fine, despite looking very similar to 0), Q and Z aren't used for the area code, and any combination which could be offensive (not just in English) are banned. Many countries follow a somewhat similar pattern based on region, year, and random characters for ID.
When car dealers receives a batch of a certain class of cars, they will likely batch register the cars, when this happens, the random letters will often go up sequencially for ease of process, adding that the area code and and age identifier will be identical, this leads to the cars of this batch registration have regs which are only 1 or 2 letters off.
Now think about the fact that most people buying from a dealership, especially where they are batch made not custom made, will be locals. Meaning they will likely be using that vehicle in and around the same area, it doesn't seem to surpsing when similar class cars of the same year have similar regs, and then pop up nearby from time to time.
Infact some company's vehicle like vans and buses will have sets of vehicles with regs off by only a few characters as they batch buy from dealerships.
And as mentioned, other countries use similar methods, the photo in video appeared to be some sort of European reg.

It caused street lights, car lights, and even an airport lighthouse lights to refract straight up. It was strange but also cool. I was able to see if a car was coming around the corner because I could see the lights above the trees.

In Sweden companies often buy several cars of the same model at the same time, which means they get license plates that are just a number off. The commuter train goes past Scania where the whole parking lot is filled with identical, white cars with almost identical plates. It's almost creepy.

Since ice expands as it freezes, the ice freezing below the surface starts to push water up through the hole. If the conditions are just right, the water will be forced out of the hole and it will freeze into an ice spike. as seen in this post

Lighting glitches causing low res textures is caused by cheap LED arrays with multiple small light sources being magnified and projected onto the surface.

Because they asked for an explanation, the clouds at 5:30 look that way because the clouds pointed out in the video were only the visible edge of the formation. Back where the camera couldn't see, there was a higher part of the formation that blocked the sun from coloring the higher, thinner clouds and creating that illusion with its shadow. Why is the effect visible but not the part of the clouds that caused it? Because the light in question isn't coming toward the camera, it's moving high above the camera and bouncing down to it off of the thin clouds positioned above the thicker, more traditionally shaped clouds. (Look up 'cumulous vs stratus vs cirrus' for more details on cloud types and their formation)

well the reason that the same model of cars all have similar registration plates is usually because a dealership will register all of the shipment of cars at the same time, and sometimes even then a company will buy a bunch from that dealership so you'll see a car park with all these branded cars with a sequence of registration plates and it's so uncanny

The last full solar eclipse we had where I live, I think it was Sept. of 2012, the shadows from leaves on the wall were SO weird. I tried taking a pic, but didn't have a smartphone at the time.

4:02 This is called an ice sprue. This is a consequence of the fact that ice is less dense then water. The surface of water freezes frist because that is the part touching air. However when it freezes unevenly the ice forming in the interior of the container, instead of pushing the whole surface up, will push through the weakest point forming a spike. It used to happen at least once with every ice cube tray I tried to make in my last place. Not now nore ever before, just that place and that ice-cube tray.
