    Nice, great find, Jason. We had several first responders from outside the area come to WNC after Hurricane Helene who had a hard time navigating roads due to all the closures and the lack of comms for some mapping applications. Hardcopy maps, in some cases, weren’t very useful. This might have been helpful for folks unfamiliar with the area who were tasked with welfare checks.
    Some of the initial tests I’ve run do show alternate routes for closed roads in our area, which makes this very useful! Thank you!

      Thanks for the report! Good to know it will show alternate routes :-)

      I owe you an apology. I would have given credit but couldn't find that forum post again to save my life.
      Pretty awesome that you have the code running on a BPQ node.

    Thanks for also including the terminal command for setting executable. It was a good reinforcement of a command that I don’t use often enough.

    I like this! Totally useful in non cell areas. Yes, there are still areas in the U.S. that do not have cell coverage.

    Could be useful on our local highways. We have one with possibly very little cell, but it may not have aprs and very little chance for packet. The 299 has APRS only I believe to the west of me (Redding to Eureka with huge stretches without cell service. Not sure aprs would help.

    Since I tried the link yesterday on my Linux 73. It works. I don't know what script magic Jason KM4ACK did in Linux but it works. As our cellular can be lost of grid here in the mountains of BC. I'll have to try it see if I can get it to work.

    You're right, very cool we can do it but not sure if I need it. At least I need to practice doing it a few times so I can get directions after the apocalypse.

    That is rather cool that one can do this with winlink. However I agree this is likely a solution looking for a problem. There are many offline gps navigation solutions that will run on your smart phone.

    OK, here's the problem: Grid down scenario, ARES/RACES activated, I tell an operator to go to a shelter and provide communications and he/she has no idea how to get there. There ya go!

    I'm trying to get pat winlink setup on mint. Is there some way to create a winlink account from Linux?

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes. Send a message to somebody with Pat using telnet. Wait 5ish minutes and make another telnet connection. The system should auto respond with a temp password.
