TSA would have a field day with this one! I can't imagine what this would look like under a scanner. Be sure to include your radio license in there! Thanks for sharing! Great work!

@@PhilJohnston I worried the first time I took my KX-3 kit and a couple of HT's with me for a cross-country trip. It was in a Western Pack mini- duffel small enough to declare as my "personal item". It was stuffed full with the radio, various cables to connect it:to a laptop, a KX-3 Helper wire antenna with its unun, 30ft or so of coax, an external 10-cell battery holder with Eneloops, microphone, and I don't recall what else. I made sure I had my license handy. But then it was a non-event. No trouble getting through TSA screening. Surprised the heck out of me

I’ve taken worse with just computers stuff. I’ve only been hassled one by TSA. It was at PHX.

Well, probably just the larger rf connectors like N connectors and stuff you'd use at a repeater. But, for me, that goes into my Motorola rf meter case. Thats a good set up you've got there.

We carry way more than we use in the field just for those moments when Murphy shows up. My QRO accessory box has many things I could need but typically don't. And my QRP bag is not much better.

Eliminate micro USB? Heck, I've still got a few mini-USB devices around as well, although they probably won't make it to the field with me. I think my old Antuino analyzer connects by mini-USB.

Some tech takes forever to ride off into the sunset and radio manufacturers don't help either.

I mark all my USB cables that pass data and USB-C to USB-C; I label the version number to know which ones to use for video. USB A to USB Mini/Micro cables also come in power only, as well as data/power cables. I spent half an hour chasing my tail to find out I was using a USB A to Micro B power-only cable when I needed a data cable.

One other consideration in putting a solutions bag together: is it strictly for making your personal gear work, or do you want to be able solve problems with others' gear that you encounter in the field? Two slightly different problems, depending on the objectives of your outing.

Agreed! Kit for other people needs lots more labeling work (contents, what each item it is and your ID so it has a /chance/ to get back to you) while accepting that loaned kit is often a consumable. I like to think they're related though: as you evolve your system versions, the old proven ones should be put to use for helping/training others.

That a must have carry bag. So many times I needed that stuff. I have much more in mine. I have Mini USB cables . You still find stuff that use them. I have several USB C cables. Some are PD cables. There is no one fits all usb C cable. So several types in bag is a must ! . I have a small Rig-runner power pole fused 4 port distribution block . Also a powerworks 6 port one. And I have extra fuses in my kit ! .
I have many ferrite snap cores of different sizes in mine and some FT 240-31 cores incase I need to make common mode choke . I have the ABR one in my kit pre made . one of the bast things I got from ABR is that FT 240 choke with RG 400T coax and PL 259/ SO 239 . My power pole extensions are 10 AWG and one has FT 240-31 with 10 turn wrap. cross over at 5 turns. And I have different power poles as well. I use PP 75 ones. also SB 50 that you find on bigger LiFePO4 battery. The current/voltage monitor cord for power poles is a great tool in the bag. I have the one from power works and SB 50 connectors. That LED polarity tester is easy build. about a 2K resistor and a bi-color LED is all you need. I even made one with a mini volt meter on it. I even made a power pole to a filter cap , helps with DC chokes to filter noise and smooth out SSB current. You put the cap right on the radio power lead. It helps with voltage drop on SSB . and some DC noise . Also I have a crowbar power pole protector from TOM. A to Z on youtube. Saves my radio if my MPPT or power supply fails and over volts radio. Just a small bord does a lot of good. I keep adding to my RF adapters. I have TNC ones now. Some radios using that . 73
