Hi Adrian. As I watch this video on April 18, 2022, I can imagine I am back in January of 2020 seeing into the future when our “normal” lives will be challenged and change. Fortunately, by watching your current videos, I am happy your family appears to be intact, and your farm continues to prosper. Covid wreaked havoc wherever it struck and a “new normal” appeared. In order to gain perspective on IFWF, I am watching your past videos.
Lovely tidy bit of block work. Looks a nice job. I would cap the wall before ya plaster it. Then plaster up to the cap. The plasterer will thank you for having the cap to work up to.
It's a good wall and as a bricklayer only thing I would have done differently is stuck a pier in middle of wall at the field side with a expansion joint and slip ties as supposed to have a expansion joint every six metres in blockwork also definitely would have stuck a pier on back of wall where gate is going so it would be either 325mm pier or 440mm pier instead of 215mm thick, if you want to back fill against wall tank it by painting a few layers of bitumen on it instead of plastic as plastic pointless the copings are a good idea to protect from weather and would make it a lot quicker to render use 600mm ones and not 900mm ones as you are on a radius you may still have to mitre them slightly to give a perfect finish but overall that yard looks the business 👍
What a great set up it nice to see someone using there brain and thinking things out you keep really tidy a neat farm and things are done right a lot of people could take from this 2 little ideas of it was my yard the part where your going to fence I’d maybe set the fence back into the field a little and make a lay-by part on your lane and your swinging gate that follows your wall I’d maybe think about putting a wheel on the end something with a bearing in the middle to help carry your gate just 2 little ideas but hats off to you great videos
AB Crofter Thank you for the kind words, yes I like to plans things out a while in advance but I do change things as I go, I get great ideas from visiting other farms alike. Yes I use wheel supported gates at home but can’t really on this site because of the slopes but thanks for the tips though as there all taking onboard.
Hi Adrian Love your vids. You run a tight operation.....If I can ask (and feel free not to answer) is it a struggle to survive with 50/60 cows ? Maybe you have no borrowings ? It's just I milk 100 cows on the south coast and am just about keeping my head above water.Granted I have high ish borrowings.Anyway, keep up the good work
I do a financial plan each year on where i should and shouldn't invest. Cow numbers does not increase profitability, in fact it can be the opposite. Milk production an efficiency is all that matters. Every farm is different but the key elements are the same. Each cow must earn her keep and not carry others, so the answer is yes we do survive comfortable on 50 cows at present, in 10 years from now no one knows........
@@IFarmWeFarm Thanks for reply Adrian...I agree,a lot of the dairy farmers that went up to big numbers quickly 'lost their way' and may not be making much more money what with rented land charges and big labour costs.A lot of them would be well served to tune into your channel to see 'attention to detail' For this reason,I think your channel will be big in 2020 ! Thanks again.
@IFarm WeFarm where did you get your gate and post for the curved wall we at home are building a 7 bay double shed and a new handling yard and I think that curved wall and gate is ideal as we handle a lot of animals
I connected up a rough rain water harvesting system and the cattle will ignore the main troughs beside them and travel to the rain water. Its amazing how they prefer it over the mains stuff we drink it would make you wonder what's putting them off.
Fantastic series on new build just watched all 10parts in two day's the curved wall is brilliant I think if you cut the head yoke and fix to wall should work great the cattle looking good in there 👍 if you don't mind me asking what sort of figure did it cost (roughly) i'am saving for new cattle shed my self as the wood is getting rotten 😬please if you have time check my channel antony farming Thanks 👍
I notice the blocks are layed directly on top of each other for two rows before being staggered. Is this done because of the curved nature of the wall or for some other reason?
Nice wall that young man. Interesting how the builder used doubled up blocks to get it finished. Once the render goes on nobody will see that. Coping stones to cap it off will finish it very nicely indeed. All the best, JDZ.

Wall looks tremendous. Very smart looking.
That wall looks great has finished the yard off nicely. It'll keep the white walkers out, Jon Snow.👍
Looks good, when u get round to plastering it probably worth capping the top just to stop it turning green so fast

Actually makes the place so much better, great job
Some setup, the high curved wall will be a great yard to handle cattle in. You’ll be drawing the cattle from the main yard to this one yet 🤣
You could be rite 😂😂
Have ya somewhere to turn a jeep and trailer if ya have cattle in the chute ? Seems a bit tight until the bales are fed ?
Oisin O D there’s loads of room, video makes it look tighter than it is 👍
TIDY SPOT WELL DONE . LEAVES LIFE HANDIER ON YA.
A very good and thought out system, great to see progress happening in the farming world👍
Super job now for sure!!!!! Serious potential in that setup!!!

Well done bud, earned yourself a subscriber
Welcome a board thank you
Hopefully you grow bigger over the next year
@IFarm WeFarm where did you get your gate and post for the curved wall we at home are building a 7 bay double shed and a new handling yard and I think that curved wall and gate is ideal as we handle a lot of animals
Oisin Cassidy all came from Tee more Engineering in Derrylin
That tidy job sheet that we gate with stock bord it lovely 2 work with 46 € for 8 by 4 sheet
Brendan Meegan where can you buy the bord
@@pauricoreilly5122 FRS in Ballyjamesduff type in stock board into donedeal it will come straight up
Where does the rainwater from the shed go ? Off the roof?
Michael Flynn it’s piped to the drain at the min
I connected up a rough rain water harvesting system and the cattle will ignore the main troughs beside them and travel to the rain water. Its amazing how they prefer it over the mains stuff we drink it would make you wonder what's putting them off.
For your gate would stockboard be better?
Claas 650 I never really considered using stockboard, steel is stronger and just as easily constructed
Looks good but would you not have been better to give it support on the back
We talked that over but it shouldn't need it with them young cattle

Thanks 👍
what did u say was on the left of the shed or what are u using it for
Odhran Byrne if you have a look at part 3-4 all is explained 👍
IFarm WeFarm will look at them now 👍
Would the cattle knock off the capping ?
Tipp Agri wall is over 7 feet tall so shouldn’t happen
What width are slats and suspend cubicles thanks.
Love your setup eh how many acres do ya have .And y did ya build a curved wall . Do ya a problem wit doves or pigeons.were u from .keep er lit lad
Fine job!how big are cubicles for small cattle?
There way to long but thats one of the draw back to grant jobs unfortunately, i intend to put in planks along the front to keep them back further
I notice the blocks are layed directly on top of each other for two rows before being staggered. Is this done because of the curved nature of the wall or for some other reason?
A lot of builders do it that way, some call that 1 row, I normally build with 6” blocks or 9” cavity’s and would stagger each row.
G'day mate 👍

@@philipoconnor2236 I never said the builder did the double blocks as some kind of "cheat or cutting corners". Those are your words and not mine!
its ashame you cant make a clamp with that pile of soil
I keep that we hard stand grass will grow on stones use it for a feeder so cattle feeding don't destroy field wet time
or wind break
How old are the heifers?
From 9 - 11 months
Some shed for 10 maiden heifers
Conor Haugh the shed will be full soon
@@IFarmWeFarm yu have a lovely herd a cow's. Fair play lad
Nice job 👍. Did you come up with a solution to keep the crows off the silage.
Yes, If you follow me on instagram you can message me to see how..
What will happen to cows shit ?
