I bought a mic for £30. And iv done settings and played around and I still have white noise slightly how can I get rid of it? Or is it something an editing software needs to do. Thanks
Some mics just are not clean sounding. I've found you need to really be aware of your input volume. Generally, you can set your cameras input volume to about ¼ to get proper levels. When you are not speaking there should be very little movement of the levels gauge. Once you are speaking it should run to 12db or slightly above. Getting the ic as close as you can to your subject helps for not having to crank up the gain. FCPX has some great audio effects that help remove dead zone noise automatically. Unfortunately you need a Mac to use it. I use Mac exclusively so it works for me. I hear premier pro is also very good. I hope this helps.
The 750d is the same camera I’m working with in the video. So you should be able to switch the top switch to the video icon then go to the menu and the audio options should be available. I hope this helps. Cheers!

I have a boom mic and my problem is that there are two option buttons. 1) normal ( 2 ) Tele so my question is that what is the use of Tele mode or on which condition we have to use Tele mode ?
The tele mode is supposed to pick up sound at distance without including ambient noise. I've read mixed reviews about this option. Normal is for normal mic use in close proximity.

Hi, I’m a novice to sound and DSLR shooting. I have the same RODE mic. What settings did you set the mic to? You know, the tiny buttons under the battery compartment? And can you explain the difference between turning the mic on to I vs O on the back? Thanks!
The switch on the back is 0-off, I-on flat filter, and the bent line is the high-pass filter on. It can help filter traffic sound, or something like an A/C unit. The switches inside are sensitivity switches. Most of the time you'll just leave it on 0 db. If you are recording in extremely loud conditions you can lower the sensitivity of your mic to avoid clipping the audio signal. Clipping will give you distortion and won't sound very good. I hope this helps.
NoPro Joe Wow! Thank you for your prompt reply! This is exactly the answer I was looking for. Much appreciated. Love your helpful videos and channel. I’m learning a lot!

I have the same settings but i have the rode mic go and i had the dead cat on to block wind noise but I noticed on my video that even with the guard on, it picked up wind noise as if I didn't have the mic plugged in. Is there any other seetings for that?
I did exactly this with my canon m3, but my microphone is picking up A LOT of background hiss, like just a white noise. There are no fans or aircon units making the noise, do you think it is just the quality of the mic? Should I return it and get a rode mic?
Hi Connie ! I dont think thats the microphone I dont know exactly but I have the same problem and I have a Rode Mic Go... Hum noise and not perfect audio!
You may have to go down a bit more with the gain on the camera. The noise floor may be a bit lower. A few other possibilities are a cheap battery of a faulty mic/connection. The easiest way to see noise is to be silent and watch the levels. If it is not on zero or slightly above there is noise. It could also be an interference issue. Something interfering with the audio. I hope this helps. Thank you for commenting.
It tends to cut the audio when it thinks wind is blowing past it ind it messes with the integrity of you audio input. Use a dead cat on your mic instead.

I have an external Rode microphone that I plug into my Canon 90D. When I do so I'm only getting audio from the right channel. Any help why and how I can fix this? I've used this microphone for two years. Never had this issue. Thanks
Hi! I'm using rode videomic on Canon T6i, but the sound capture is too low. I was using at the first line to avoid the noise. At the other hand, when I use at the middle as you show at the video the inner hiss is too high. It's really strange beacuse once I forgot to turn on the mic, obviously it didin't record any sound of me, but the hiss was present. Do you have any idea to solve this problem?
Its really trial and error for the levels. Just below half is a good starting place but you can see the noise on the levels indicator so be on the lookout for that. One thing I do that may or may not help is I use a lithium ion battery in mine. It works well. Again I'm not sure if it actually helps but it doesn't hurt.
Unfortunately, the T6 does not have a mic jack. You'll have to do external recording for higher quality audio. You can use a Zoom or even a good smart phone and sync in your video editor.
My grandson has a Canon Rebel T3 and I’m unable to plug in my new Rode external microphone so is there an adapter that should work to resolve this problem?
Unfortunately, the T3 doesn't have a mic input. It leaves only one good option for a cleaner audio capture. You can capture the audio in a iPhone or sound recording device. Then sync the audio with the video in your video editor. I actually prefer doing it that way because the closer the mic is to our subject the better the audio is. I hope that helps.
hi my camera is canon eos 760d, in the recording menu I can only see two option in the sound recording which is off and on, how can I switch it to manual as in the vid please replied Thank you
Hi, The camera must be in a creative zone to access the full sound options. Place your mode dial in P,TV,AV, or M to have full access to all menu option in you 760D. Auto mode locks you out of most useful menu options.
M is the manual exposure setting. Movie mode depends on the camera. It could be a video camera pic on the dial, a specific switch, or a menu option. Depends on the camera or manufacturer.
I have a canon sl3 and I cannot get my rode mic to stay on top of my camera. On the directions, it told me to twist the cap counter clock wise but it will not budge. Am i doing something wrong??

I have the same settings but i have the rode mic go and i had the dead cat on to block wind noise but I noticed on my video that even with the guard on, it picked up wind noise as if I didn't have the mic plugged in. Is there any other seetings for that?
The wind attenuator can be turned on. However, it basically mutes your audio when wind noise is detected. So its definitely not optimal.
I did this but my audio with the external Rode mic still sounds almost staticky and cheap... I have a canon T6i
You may have to go down a bit more with the gain on the camera.
It keeps saying my mics off ?
could you fix the problem I have the same issue I just also got the t6i o was so excited but this sound makes me frustated.
Might be that the Canon DSLRs have a bad microphone pre-amp(lifier)... sorry to hear that.
I like your channel MEM 👍️
why the wind filter is disabeled? can u pls explain? thanks!
It tends to cut the audio when it thinks wind is blowing past it ind it messes with the integrity of you audio input. Use a dead cat on your mic instead.
@@NoProJoe yessss..now that you told...i remember audio going off last year at the beach during my vlog. thank you so much. much appreciate. namaste!

Could you maybe use a mini usb to 3.5mm audio jack adapter on the nikon d3100 for an external mic?
I don't believe that will work. I'm pretty sure the D3100 has not external mic ability.
Please help.... I am getting sound off option on screen while recording a video.

I have an external Rode microphone that I plug into my Canon 90D. When I do so I'm only getting audio from the right channel. Any help why and how I can fix this? I've used this microphone for two years. Never had this issue. Thanks
Hi how many black rings are on your mic input cable?
@@NoProJoe 2
I’ll have to research a bit 👍
@@NoProJoe thanks a ton. Been trying to figure out the problem since Friday. Haven’t been able to. Hope to hear back soon!
@@TravieBallin Which model mic do you own?
@@NoProJoe Hi Joe! Nice, I'll try changing the battery. Who knows, right? Thanks for your kind reply :)
No audio during playback….
I have a rode mic go and I cannot hook it up to my Canon 4000d?is there any way I can use it with the mic?
Damn this is the video i needed but it didn’t work for me - there was no audio. maybe I’m doing something wrong.
What model camera did you try it on?
Does the T6 not have a headphone/mic jack? Because I can't find a place to plug it in.
Unfortunately, the T6 does not have a mic jack. You'll have to do external recording for higher quality audio. You can use a Zoom or even a good smart phone and sync in your video editor.
I have experience with my two videos i have short and i have now made my correction
Thank you for this quick reply!

hi my camera is canon eos 760d, in the recording menu I can only see two option in the sound recording which is off and on, how can I switch it to manual as in the vid
please replied
Thank you
Hi, The camera must be in a creative zone to access the full sound options. Place your mode dial in P,TV,AV, or M to have full access to all menu option in you 760D. Auto mode locks you out of most useful menu options.

Unfortunately, the 4000d cannot do external audio recording.
This really helped me!! Thanks so much:)
Thats great! Thank you.
Amazing video! helped a lot! Greatly appreciate it!
Great, thank you!
Does it work for the Nikon d3100??
Unfortunately not, as the Nikon d3100 does not have an Mic out option.. We tried :(
What kind of microphone do you used ?
A Rode VideoMic with Rycote suspension.
Is movie mode the M on the turn knob?
M is the manual exposure setting. Movie mode depends on the camera. It could be a video camera pic on the dial, a specific switch, or a menu option. Depends on the camera or manufacturer.
nice my friend thank for share
Thank your
@1:01 ... Always used to forget to turn mic ON. LOL I eventually replaced it with one that is always ON :)
Lol 😂 the struggle is real
Nice Job
Thank you!
I have a canon sl3 and I cannot get my rode mic to stay on top of my camera. On the directions, it told me to twist the cap counter clock wise but it will not budge. Am i doing something wrong??
Try turning clockwise. That should tighten the top but. It sounds like it has been loosened to the end and will not turn counter clockwise anymore. I hope this helps 😊
Is there a way to put an mic on it without that mic audioinput?
You can mount an H1n to the hot shoe and sync your audio in your video editor.
I have a Nikon D3300 and an aux jack connectable mic and it doesn't seem to work on my camera, it works on my phone but the sound output won't work on my camera, any advice? 👌
Have you gone into the movie settings on the camera to see if the microphone option in off or on? It's kind of buried in the menus. You have options for manual, auto and off.
