Not trying to defend the movie, but the reason the convenient drawer was there was because Umbrella wanted Alice to work for them again, so after they pretty much tortured her with banshee screeching she would agree to work for them and eventually put on the gear in the convenient drawer.

I completely agree. What irritated me most was how every 5 minutes, they felt the need to break the fourth wall, and inform the audience via red queen with a diagram of the facility of what the next challenge was.

The only RE movies worth a damn. Only furthers my belief that video games/cartoons/anime adaptations shouldn't be live action.
sonicjrjr14 Degeneration was pretty cool but I never got what the point of Damnation was. I mean the action was pretty cool but what was actually happening? Also the voice acting (at least in the English version) was brutal.
100legodude I thought the acting and lip syncing was fine, much better than the 1st one at least.
The plot of Damnation is Leon "vacationing" in war torn Russia when he really went because he heard a lead that the President Belikova was using monsters called BOW's to overpower the government control and rule over the country with an iron fist. Along the way Leon meets up with Ada and some locals to help him defeat Belikova.
This is literally the only the movie in franchise which I will not defend...
You actually see Albert Wesker falling with parachute at the end of Afterlife. That's how he is still alive.
Then how did he survive getting his shot up to hell on the ship in the 4th movie?
I love how they say "Oh yeah we are bringing all your favourite RE characters from the games." And...they are barely worth the screen time. Just wanted to cash in on their names.
i personally don't get why people hate transformers 2 so much i mean there are transforming giant metal robots they can't be quiet, they supposed to be loud and make explosions when they shoot their guns, it not like two humans in a fist fight
Nothing in that movie made an ounce of sense. Like Megatron captured Sam at the beginning of the movie yet proceeds to torture him instead of kill him. The fact that the rescue scene after the torture scene Optimus and the gang rescue Sam and there's a really cool fight except this really cool fight takes place 45 MINUTES INTO THE MOVIE AND why because they want to waste your time with nonsense about Sam's college life (and when I say nonsense I mean inane college sex jokes instead of I don't know giving Sam an actual personality or people in his life that I actually care about) and then the rest of the 2 hour movie has unexplained deaths and resurrection of Optimus Prime and over the top mission to Egypt that isn't explained well to have an over the top fight with teh Fallen.
first of all megatron didn't torture Sam he needed to get information that imprinted onto Sam's brain from the cube , we can all agree that Sam's personality is annoying but that shouldn't matter because the fucking movie is called Transfomers , they had to go to egypt because that's where the Pyramids are and it had the machines that Fallen need and the Matrix which has some kind of power i really can't remember it's been a while since i last watched it . The Matrix has power from the past Primes similar to the All Spark what you didn't fucking watch the movie

I really wish people would stop hating on these movies. I'm a hardcore fan of the video games, I've played through all of them many times each. Yes the movies would be MUCH better if they followed the games but I don't compare them to the games I compare them to other action movies and in that respect they're top of the line. These movies are pure ridiculous fun. Give them a break.

Zero the Faceless I think Paul W. S. Anderson was more interested in making films like Ghosts of Mars i.e. fun, campy action flicks instead of atmospheric horror films. A real version of the 1st game would play like a cross between Night of the Living Dead and The Others (I would absolutely love to see that), unfortunately hollywood execs don't seem to trust in the patience of today's audiences. They're mistaken in that way but they are correct to give Anderson's RE series the "Resident Evil" title. The first RE film is literally Ghosts of Mars and yet GOM didn't make any money but RE 1 did because of the built in fan base of that title. None of that really bothers me, the sad thing is that a perfect cinematic version of the first game would be both scary and fun and it would do good business if they just took a chance and did a reboot.
Yeah, the action is superior to the moody bleak, shaky-cam nonsense of most modern action films. I can suspend my disbelief indefinitely and I have simple tastes when it comes to action. Give me sexy, politically incorrect badass women with guns shooting monsters in beautiful, still wide shots so I can actually understand where one combatant is in relation to another. The action is preposterous but it does actually take place in the time space continuum as opposed to taking place in the editing room where the shaky cam and fast cutting is used to disguise the uninspired laziness of the filmmaker's vision (i.e. the atrocious Transformers: Age of Extinction). Sorry to drone on here but let me make one more point. Are there better action movies than this? Hell yeah, back in the 90's there were action flicks that were WAY better but in comparison to the badly filmed crap of today like The Hunger Games, World War Z or the Taken films it's top of the line.

These movies are all like a badly written fan fiction by someone who didn't fully understand the Resident Evil world or its characters. They just took shit from the games and put it into a new movie. It can be a little bit entertaining for those of us who like Resident Evil or just mind numbing action movies but it's just like a poorly written fanfic. They might have had a cool enough idea but they just didn't know what they were doing and for some reason thought that they should continue on with the story.
PS. The reason why some of the "zombies" are intelligent enough to operate weapons and march in formation is because they're not zombies. They are pretty much the Ganados (sp?) from RE4. They are being controlled by the Las Plagas. They're not dead; just kind of brainwashed.

I watched this movie three times, just for that epic intro and its sound track. Seriously, it's just a zombie based action movie, if you are expecting too high them the problem is yours. Action movies doesn't need that much logic like a thriller (like inception). It needs noise, lights, gun fires. I watch this movie to kill time, enjoy it's effect, not picking on its logic.
the logic he is talking about is a little different. he also said if you like those types of movies then it's fine. he just doesn't and these videos are about his opinion. For me sometimes it's fun picking out ridiculous crap in movies. for me it's part of the entertainment. Especially if I feel a movie is crap.

I just was that movie yesterday and was surprised, it literally made Afterlife looking like an Oscar winner. This movie hadn't any dialogue except from the intorregation, the scene when Alice meets Ada and the ending. The rest just was "Let's go there! take cover! Go! Fire!" and such. I don't expect much from those movies but looking at the trailers I though this movie would have more story, dialogues and emotions. I mean you see the dead characters from the previous movies as enemies and even having evil Jill. I though it would be more emotionful for Alice and trying to get them on the good side but they just were randomly there like any other enemy to get killed and just at the end Alice gets the idea to take off that device from Jill and Jill even showed less emotion and guilt than in the bad RE5 game. This movie just felt like a bad video game and it was 100% action, didn't see any horror elements in it or character development, except from Wesker but it didn't make sense.

honestly i like the resident evil series. it's obv not meant to be a beautiful mind/ secret window type plot line. it's one of those guilty pleasure movies. it's like the game bullet storm. it wasnt the best game, it didn't have elderscrolls/ mass effect like stories. it wasn't meant to revolutionize fps games like cod 4 mw did. it's a game with over the top action , an eh story line and corny dialogue just to have fun. after bullet storm i was like "well that was fun :D ". i wasn't like "my god that story just blew my mind. BEST PLOTLINE EVER!" no. i ahd fun with a fun game :D same thing with the resident evil movies

The scene between Ada Wong and Alice in the underground office is a re-enactment of the scene in Resident Evil 4 (2005) where Leon S. Kennedy meets with Ada for the first time in the Salazar Family castle bedroom. Wong wears the exact same outfit in both the game and this movie. The film also includes Ada's climbing pistol and her interactive sunglasses from that game.

I love the 'Resident Evil' video games as much as the next person, but, when the movies came out, I was skeptical of them & this one is the epitome of "Really, dude???... Why the heck?!?!...".

The only way I can enjoy the films is if I never played the games.As gamers we watch these movies to see well made representations of the characters we love..The first game followed Chris and Jill while the second followed Leon and Claire yet we have to wait 3-4 movies to even see Chris Claire,Ada and Leon etc.The movies can't decide whether or not they want to ur be the games, be based on the games, tie in to the games or be a spin off of the games..

You need to place it somewhere in the wall and then some door will open, or....you need to press this button, so the key (or whatever it was) will fall out from the statue.

Then don't put that in the movie, this is where an adaptation has to have changes. This is no excuse of replacing all we loved about the games for an incoherent, contradictive, insulting, brain-damage, effortless mess with no character depth, arches, bad dialogue and acting, bad effects and dull action scenes. Even if you separate the games from the movies, they STILL don't work at all on their own. Especially when you HAVE to play the games to know the characters and monster shoehorned in with no backstory, nor explanation. These movie have TOO MANY problems to even bother comparing them to the games. They are in the level of Transformers 2 bad, if not worse. The point about an adaptation is that you take the best elements players love, and you craft and compelling horrifying story around it. It doesn't HAVE to have the puzzle nor files, but STILL make the experience a survival horror with the same tension, atmosphere, fright, and corner begging of what made the game one of the best of it's genre. The live-action movies didn't do that. I didn't even try to succeed on what it wanted to be on it's own either. And now that's been 14 years. This movie franchise has done nothing but waste our time.

Wesker had the T-Virus, which has regenerative properties... And the different types of zombies used in the movie relate to the different types of zombie used in the games, and show the different levels of mutation the virus has done as time has passed. A lot of the stuff said can be answered by the producers XD

I thought this was a pretty good movie. Does it make excuses for its action scenes - yes. But compared to other movies with little to no thought put into the script at all - the excuse it brings to the table is actually a good one.

I actually like this film, its certainly better than Apocalypse and Afterlife thats for sure. His criticism about the different zombies is unfounded. The entire purpose of that facility is to test Biological weaponry on a human population
(presumably to sell to some superpower). It would make sense that they have several types of bio-hazards.
I thought it was cool how they could change night to day, make it rain, etc. Showing they (umbrella) had total control over the enviroment itself
Most people criticism it for not being more like the game but there were many aspects of this film that honored the game (The elevator lift, the last scene with the Ice lake was from RE Veronica) The characters from the games have always been mostly generic, its the same story every game. Evil corporation unleashes a bio-hazard, a hero tries to survive while finding out more information.

The movie had many cliches and came across more action than horror, I think that's the fairest criticism. That and Paul Anderson is monopolizing, they need a fresh pair of eyes on this project. RE3 was one of the only films not directed by him and IMO one of the best

You should read the original 1st draft script that George A. Romero wrote. It's online. It would've been a whole, different (better) path for this series. PWSA ruined this franchise for letting the studio be involved too much. It's like you said, he was in it for the money. Years ago (when I was still giving this series a chance) I purchased RE: apocalypse on DVD and man, what pure dog shit it was. Why was mike Epps in it, is beyond me. I gave up totally after that fearing more of the same. I still haven't watched any of the rest, and I probably wont, but I've been such a huge fan of the video game series that my expectations have an always will be too much. Sorry. They should just leave it alone.

Playing Devil's Advocate, here are the good things about Retribution that I can think of: Michelle Rodriguez, Michelle Rodriguez beating up two guys, Alice vs Jill, The home invasion zombie scenes (Probably the only scary scene), the opening (agree to disagree), fairly good action sequences (even if they don't always make sense), the sign language moments (you can blame Switched at Birth for me liking that), Oded Fehr (hey, I like the guy even if all his scenes weren't that great). That's it.

I like jeremy jahns but sometimes he complains about things that don't make sense like in this review he complained about anderson not knowing what infected he has in his films I think jahns either forgot or didn't know about the las plagas that's why certain infected behaved like soliders that being said I'm still a proud subscriber

I liked the movie. Its like people are all ready for a conclusion and an explanation but this is going to be a long series and this one has the most over the top action and I thought a pretty good story bringing back elements from the first movie to try to tie it all together. Makes me want to go back and watch the previous ones. Oh and get a 3d display and a ps3 and be prepared to be blown away

Theyed be awesome if they weren't called resident evil but the reality is the movies are horrible representations of the games, Leon and Claire don't even look or sound like their game counter parts nor are they as cool.The games never had action and backflips and all that over the top b.s the movies put in there..Why even phocus on Alice at all, if anything she should've been a supporting side character like speaking from the audiences pov and she never shoulda got powers in the first place..I think the first movie only had like 1 or 2 lickers and the zombies in every movie look horrible..
I enjoy them because I had the first three as a kid, they are awesome popcorn movies, obviously anyone looking to look at it critically will hate it but anyone just looking to have fun will enjoy it.

If you would play the games you would understand all the different types of zombies. The zombies that were shooting guns in the Moscow area have the Las Plagas parasite in them. There on the resident evil 4 game.

The resident evil saga is far from being good; it has too many issues to call it good, one of the biggest one is that there is not much of a story and no character development. BUT I still enjoy those movies.
They are my guilty pleasure; you turn your brain off, take something to eat and enjoy the action with some damn pretty people in it.
I do wish that some day they make a real Resident Evil movie based on the games.

I saw the film, it had action, comedy and adventure in it. My favorite part of the film was when Alice killed the licker by shooting at its brain in a cool way. The film taught me to adapt to any new situation I'm in.

I can explain why the zombies are both mindless and not mindless. There are these parasites called Las Plagas from the fourth Resident Evil game. The parasite causes the body to become zombie like in a way in which they are called Ganados. They however are not dead nor are they zombies. They are like puppets: mindless soliders being controlled by someone who is smart enough to tell them what to do. in my opinion these are movies to pop in and casually watch. I like the first 3 movies Afterlife was pretty terrible and this movie I like the locations that they're in in the movie but that"s just my opinion.

@3:45 are you telling me that you didn't pick up on the fact that the Las Plagas virus is different to the T-virus?
It's easy to admit that that detail wasn't well explained in the film, and yes I wasn't a huge fan of the film either, but you should be able to tell the difference between the 'zombies' in the Tokyo sector and the 'zombies' in the Moscow sector

totally agree with you, just one thing: in the last movie (RE afterlife) albert wesker lives, u can actually see him droppin in a parachute.
I just watched the entire "commercial" before the review. It was a video showing two people helping a rabbit feed its babies. So cute... :D
Being a fan of the games one of the things that disappointed me about the movies was the lack of Bio-engineered "Monsters." The T-virus didn't just create zombies. Zombies were just a by-product of an outbreak. The virus mutated animals, plants, and even bugs and changed them into genetic monsters. In the movies we had a whole world taken over by the virus but all we see are zombies, humans, dogs, and crows. The only real monsters we see in the whole trilogy are Lickers and Nemesis and no I'm not counting the boss dude at the end of movie 3. That was just another form Nemesis had in the game.
Wow.....you spent over 6 minutes talking about this movie & didn't even mention that Ada Wong is in it. In either case, Albert Wesker has cloned himself & or has been able to regenerate himself. That's not mentioned in this movie but it's sort of a given. Out of the 6 live action movies ( so far ) Afterlife is my favorite.
Try they end up in a strange mansion where they first find out that Zombies exist, they search around and find out history about the residence, and what Umbrella's been up to, some die, yes, and what's wrong with that? A traitor is revealed, a monster awakens, they battle, they win, they escape, the end.

These all came out at a time where I feel like Uwe Boll and Paul W.S. Anderson were drinking at a bar and made a bet to see who could make the more offensively bad video game movie ever.
I think Paul WS Anderson is criminally underrated when it comes to his directing skills, yes his writing sucks but as a director he's great. He's one of the few directors that never uses shaky cam which is the worst possible thing for a director to put on film next to crappy CGI. He's overuse of slow-mo is annoying but that's only in his last 2 films.
Oh, and before I forget. "Deploy the Las Plagas Zombies" (Quote from movie) ... NUFF SAID!
I like the resident evil films i thought they were pretty good, but what spoilt them for me was the fact they gave her powers... WTF. but i did like em anyhow.
28 Days Later, that was the first time I'd seen zombies move fast and it was kinda scary... I don't do horror :-(

Every1 is entitled to their opinion but This was a bad review, intelligent zombies were attempted in extinction so umbrella obviously perfected it off screen. Her uniforms were their bcuz they were tryn 2 recruit her. Looking at the older movies their was STORY progression from finding out about umbrella origins to surviving/finding survivors to fighting wesker and now defeating the red queen. My only gripes was jills intercepting sub at the end and the stupid cagar beard guy death scene. The choreography and story/gun play also new monsters were badass overall a decent film. Funny how people/reviewers miss the little details of the stunts/hardwork. The deaf girl being taken could be the modified lickers results also it realized its struggling to kill alice baiting her, something obviously don't need explanation. I feel Jeremey jhans watched this movie as a simpleton
The "military formation zombies" were controlled by Las Plagas. Kinda the same thing, but different. They're really just humans that are intolerant to pain and have a parasite inside them. It's also used by the girl in the end fight.
She is a clone with imprinted memories and feelings, she's pretty much a real human being. Yes they are clones, they never made it that clear in the movie but there is a deleted scene where alice kills another Michelle Rodriguez character that is a zombie you should watch it on youtube it kinda explains a bit more about the clones.

I have never seen these Resident Evil movies because I've been told that the live action movies based off the video games are terrible but I have seen Resident Evil:Damnation and it was pretty awesome! It's an animated feature with Leon Kennedy as it's hero. It was a little hard to understand because I've never played the games but it was still fun to watch. Plus it gave some insight into Leon's character, so yeah, Jeremy if you could please review this movie that would be amazing!

Actually, in the book of the movie (yeah, THERE is a book made From the movie) Wesker explains that Alice actually just killed one of his clones. They really like clones.
Although I agree with this review, I gotta be fair and say that Wesker was supposed to survive Afterlife even back then. You can see him parachute to safety in the background.
This is one of the best movies u need to play the games to understand it the have zombies nd las plagas paresites they are a whole different thing and if u pay attention to the movie u would know what happens cuz they do expain everything even in the beginning so u can catch up with the series nd I kinda agree the part with the super licker and the lil girl was kinda super
ummm if you played the games you would probably hate these movies. but the movies were still terrible like what happened to chris and claire? what happen to angela? how did the virus spread all over the world? what happened to kmart? How did wesker get into the white house? Why doesnt he need alice to control the virus anymore? how did leon and barry and ada and luther and the two randoms even meet one another and then start working for wesker? too many plot holes not explained.
light4none It says on the Wiki that Chris, Claire, and K-Mart are alive but captured by umbrella. But it would suck if they actually died without an explanation.
He survives in afterlife, he uses a parachute to escape the explosion. It's happen around the time when the black guy show himself to be alive.
