Phelous did a fantastic job ripping apart every single little thing that was wrong with these movies. I'll admit that I enjoyed the first 3. They're not the greatest, but I find them entertaining in a different zombie perspective, even if they don't do so much with the game's connections. But the 4th movie was where it became an insanely inconsistent mess, and it got really bad even before RE Final Chapter... I still remember seeing this one in theaters with friends who love watching these movies to roast them. But this was so bad that it left us miserable, we couldn't have fun of it without getting headaches.

I finally started Resi 7 last night.
At least the game is fucking incredible lol.
it's alright. the novelty wears off after a while and I beat it in under 8 hours so that's that. also there's as good as no enemy variety there. aside from the baker family you only have 3 types of the goo monsters. that's it. also the final boss fight is short and lame. basically only quickytime events.

That's not true, you actually have to shoot to cause damage. I do agree about the lack of monster variety, but it's ultimately negligible because of the return to form when it comes to atmosphere and pacing.

Paul W Anderson and Milla Jovovich have the best relationship. They can make six shitty movies and really don't pay attention to the critics. And laugh about it in the end because we watched them.

How? Her character is the most boring overpowered Mary-Sue of all time. And even putting that aside cannot act for shit as she puts zero effort or emotion into her performance as Alice. The only thing good about these movies is the end credits. That and Nemesis in the second film was pretty cool looking.

Fun fact: George A. Romero, the father of the zombie genre and creator of Night of the Living Dead, wrote a screenplay for a Resident Evil movie mack in 1999. He intended on directing the film. The script is actually available to read online. It stays true to the heart of the games with only minor changes. One change, was the Chris Redfield being of Native American decent. Other than that, a lot of what happened with the Mansion incident from the games is intact with the script. One of the first scenes in the script is Wesker and his team flying by helicopter towards the mansion. Towards the end of the script there is even a tyrant that is unleashed. Anyway, Romero turned the script in to Sony pictures, and Sony didnt like it very much because there wasnt enough action. So they hired a new screenwriter and director and now we've got the Resident Evil movies of today. Yup.

Why the first person mode is so much better, their is no need for 3rd person. If thats the only con you have on the game thats pretty odd reason for calling it shit. It was fantastic return to form for capcom Resident Evil. It was true horror, the last boss was meh and felt a bit rushed for the set up it was given, but that and running back to the lockers felt meh. But tbh it is a solid 8/10 game for me.
The overall feel is RE it brings so many call backs from the old series, and so what if it has some PT/Outlast vibes tossed in the mix. It was fantastically done. So far your cons seem more like not cons at all.

They all died when Wesker betrayed them in D.C.. Except with Chris because he was with Claire and K-Mart on the Arcadia. Somehow Claire survived the attack on the Arcadia but nothing mentioned of Chris or K-Mart so maybe they are alive? These movies overall are terrible and it is annoying with how Wesker gives Alice her powers back in the last movie only to take them away in this movie.

Jeremy should have done another dozen jump cuts in 12 seconds and it would have started to feel like the movie! (I actually tried counting the length of shots in the film and the longest I ever got was 5 seconds)... I almost feel sorry for the editor. It must have been the most time-consuming, painstaking job ever!

Why does Hollywood continue to butcher video game film adaptations? The script is already essentially there...how fucking hard can it be to make a decent respectable film with a gigantic $100,00,000+ budget (Assassin's Creed I'm talking to you)

And apocalypse continued the story and actually we had an emotional connection to Nemesis because of the first one.. we learned the t virus wasnt meant to be a bio weapon and overall everything is just sad as the world falls to war

I like how Jeremy gives us a short writing assignment at the end of each video. Very educational.
George Romero actually kept the characters in the movie, he just re-wrote a few in different roles. Chris was a Native American who was a farm boy, who was also Jill's love interest, but Jill still stuck to her character and the plot for her.
The script he wrote is online.
The movie company didn't want to change the characters, yet they changed the characters anyways, why not keep Romero if their dumb asses wanted to change it.

The third movie was fairly okay because it felt self-contained and distanced itself enough from the games.
My fav is Apocalypse because it the MOST faithful of all the movies. They have Nemesis, Racoon City Police Department. You remember that area in RE2 where in the police department there's a bench with bloody handcuffs next to it and some herbs and a locked door nearby? They even included how that happened. I also liked how they showed other S.T.A.R.S members. So sad the series had a lot of potential, first film and Extinction could have been standalone

Liked The First Two Films Then It Started Going Downhill For The Third One. Afterlife was the worst one. Hope they do a Netflix TV Series that actually follows the Game where they would have more room for stories to tell. Loved the Animated Films though and Resident Evil Vendetta looks good that comes out soon. The really fast cut scenes did bother me though lol.

The guy in the second movie created the t virus and used it to cure his daughter but she wasn't the one the red queen was modeled after. The umbrella corporation stole the t virus and it was used to cure young Alice's aging problem and the red queen was modeled after her.
Im glad it's over too. I'm a diehard Resident eivl fan. I have majority of the games, I have a comic book from the 90s of it, I had ta few action figures as a kid, I have a couple books dealing with the history and artwork of the games...heck , I even imported a book from Spain of a Resident Evil compendium that dealt with the ENTIRE franchise: both ingame and the world phenomena of the games, merch and movies.
However, as shlocky, actiony movies, they're good to poke fun at and check your brain out for, as I do have a love for those type of movies. In here, it def applies, BUT because it uses the Resident Evil license and tried to play it of as THE resident evil mobies experience..it def gets a bunch of points knocked off. They are admittedly a slight Guilty Pleasure of mine. I have the first two movies on dvd (the second one I didn't buy, just rented and then the place went out of business xD sooo free movie and it's extra disc too!) and then with the recent Resident Evil game, RE7, I got the 5th movie for free xP.

The problem with this particular film was that not even the action entertained me. All the flashy extravaganza that was meant to distract us from that mess of a plot happens to poorly edited and quite frankly headache inducing. I wanted to leave after 20 minutes.
Yeahhh this one looked the worst by far :/ which honestly the 4th film had that spot for me as it tried to shoehorn in RE4/5/6 material from left field. Again, I'm two halfs of the entire franchise of these films, where I HATE them...but also guilty pleasure like them. the Fifth film wasn't a bad setup, but def didn't go as far into the ordeal that I thought (no surprise). But yeahhhh this looks shitty.
I say buy it at a used DVD/bookstore.

Holy shit that is a lot of Resident Evil movies. I thought there were only 3 until this one. Because I watched and enjoyed the first one, head of the second skipping it to see 3 because I had a free pass to the movies then I guess I went into a coma for a few years or maybe stopped wasting my time with Video Game movies long enough for this one to only catch my eye because Resident Evil is relevant and revamped enough as a series to stand out again. The game not the movie, this one can still be forgotten about.
So finally watched this ... and this is in my opinion the worst movie in the whole franchise.
Megan Charpentier had outgrown the role of the Red Queen, which she previously played in Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), and was recast with Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson's real life daughter Ever Anderson in her feature film debut.
Filming was originally scheduled to start in Fall 2013 for a September 12, 2014 release date. Filming was delayed when Milla Jovovich became pregnant with her second child.
Bingbing Li was due to reprise her role as Ada Wong but had to leave production before shooting started because she had committed to another movie in China.
The outfit that Claire Redfield, Ali Larter's character, wears is the same outfit that was worn by Claire Redfield in the game Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (2015).
Milla Jovovich is the only actor to appear in every single film of the series.
Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Iain Glen, and Shawn Roberts are the only actors to reprise their roles from previous installments.
The film came out on January 27, 2017, three days after the release of the new installment of the video game series, Resident Evil VII: Biohazard (2017).

He was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support, but he died a few hours later. It was the film's second on-set accident, and the only fatal one. The film is dedicated to his memory.
So more inconsistent than the previous movies, well, thank God it's over.
My ranking of those RE movies:
1. Resident Evil - 2002: This movie actually tries to do something new, and claustophobic enviroment is scary in this, a very good guilty pleasure film.
2. Resident Evil Apocalypse - 2004: Introducing character from the videogames without using them well, poor Nemesis, Sienna Guillory/Jill Valentine is hot tho.
3. Resident Evil Afterlife - 2010: It copies Dawn of the dead remake style with a group of survivors that no one cares about, and fails, Wesker is decent.
4. Resident Evil Retribution - 2012: Non-sense plot.
5. Resident Evil Extinction - 2007: Giving superpowers to Alice is a stupid thing to do, and it copies Parasite Eve II game, desert location, main character with telequinesis, awful movie in every way, over-acting of the main lead.
6. Resident Evil The Final Chapter - 2017: It looks garbage.

I'd highly recommend checking out Phelous's reviews of the Resident Evil movies. They're like the Plinkett Star Wars Prequel reviews of Resident Evil in my opinion. He goes in great detail how all these films blatantly contradict or flat out ignore it's own continuity in every movie especially in the Final Chapter.

I can't believe how bad these movies are specially since the games at least 1-3 and Code Veronica were pretty good.
Personally, I think the three best Resident Evil storylines are those of the Resident Evil 1 Remake, Resident Evil 2 (plus some character development added in Darkside Chronicles), and Resident Evil Damnation (the second animated film). Sharing second place, I thought the stories for RE Revelations 2, the "Operation Javier" chapter of the Darkside Chronicles, and the RE Outbreak series were god. In third place, I would say my other favorites were parts of Code Veronica and parts of RE5's story. I have not played RE7 yet, so I will judge the story of it then.
Mark Cobuzzi Resident Evil is highly underrated was a launch title for the PlayStation and a contributing game that allow Sony to win the console war vs N64, Sega was out with the early released of the underperforming Saturn that pretty much ended their hardware business.
Juan Guzman Metal Gear and Final Fantasy helped too.

I've watched every six movies recently. I like all of them. Sure, sometimes they are absurd and lack of coherence, uses game characters in the worst way possible, but they're at least entertaining. I really appreciated the last one especially scenes where minor characters dies (I knew that that fan was going to kill someone but the movie tricked you into believing they managed to survive).
I was afraid they would eventually kill Claire so I was on the edge of my seat during every scene that only shows she and Alice.
I think it's a proper ending to the series btw and I loved the plot twist about Alice.
The series is bad but i love it regardless

This is actually my favorite entry in this series, even though the whole series (yes, including this one) sucks. They're all horrible. It's just kind of a guilty pleasure. In this one, theres one small segment toward the very end that gives a glimmer of what a decent movie would be for like 45 seconds, which is more than I can say for the first 5 movies.
@Ryan Fanstone I would say that the first is second-best (or more accurately, fifth-worst) , as I find a couple parts kinda enjoyable, but I still dont think the movie is good at all. I think 99% of the final chapter is bad too, but the very very end showed a glimpse of how good the series could have been, which is why I say it's the best, or sixth-worst. If you or other people genuinely enjoy the first one, good for you, this just my opinion after all. I just dont see it as anything worth one's time.
This is the ultimate representation of a January movie and is truly a survival horror...for the audience
