Takeaways: 1) “to lose weight you have to become a different person”. This was a realization I had recently after gaining 25 lbs under extreme stress. I want to be a person who can deal with stress appropriately and respect myself. If I stay the same person, I will stay the same. I’ve started to think - what would my ideal healthy self do? When would I wake up? When would I workout? When would I walk? What new activities would I join? What are my non-negotiables? 2) “give yourself a year to reach your goal.” This is tough. I hate feeling limited and insecure in my fat, unhealthy, body so I want it off as fast as possible. Giving myself the grace to implement the new me and new habits will make it sustainable. Which is my ultimate goal. But this is what I struggle with. Great video. I’ll watch again. ❤

You’re so on the money about stopping alcohol , I’ve always worked out 4-5 days a week , at the age of 53 can’t remember a weekend where I didn’t drink significantly, I have been unable to move the scale for five years. I cut out alcohol 30 days ago without severely modifying my diet I’ve dropped over 15 lbs.
Biggest takeaway is I did not gain all this weight overnight. I need to be patient with myself and give myself a longer time horizon. Thanks for this video!
For me, I found the best way for my body to loose that last 20 pounds (I almost always eat between 5 and 7 pm - that’s it) was to eat Every Other Day. I loose about one pound a day doing this. I consider it a 36 hour fast but generally it goes into the 40s. The great thing about not eating until dinner is no hunger - but there are desires to eat. Keeping busy takes your mind off that.

I just found your channel. I have watched hundreds of videos on weight loss and let me tell you, your videos are the best I have come across. Why you don’t have more subscribers is beyond me. Fantastic content… thank you!
I discovered this video trying to have a long term fat loss solution. I've seen a few of your other videos too. Thank you for what you do. I have been on this never ending cycle since joining the military of losing weight for the biannual weigh in before doing our physical readiness test. I've done keto, paleo, pescaterian, vegetarian, blood type diet, intermittent fasting. All are effective at helping me meet my goal. With lots of water throughout the day. I'm on a new journey but I want to go into a maintenance between my prt in October and my next one probably in the summer maybe next year could go back to twice a year again. I'd say I was somewhere around 260 and I am now in the 240s. Lots of strength training, watching my protein intake and Consistency over the last three months almost. To take it to the next level I'm creating my own personalized workout with more consistent cardio sessions and being even more diligent with my calorie deficit and increase my protein more. Thanks for your videos.
How did you become so insightful? Everyone needs to hear you and your strategy for healthy living. That’s the key to weight loss. We have to work on our emotional side in addition to food and exercise to maintain this new lifestyle. Much appreciated!
The fact that you mentioned childhood trauma made me trust and like you even more, thank you!! It’s heartbreaking to learn about the ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), and consider the long term negative health outcomes folks can have well into adulthood… it is all connected!
Came for the content for my own journey, and leaving thumbs up for it, but a double-Like for Yoshikawa’s Musashi on the (viewer’s) upper left bookshelf. Pure classic.
Eating a Carnivore Diet is the first time in 60 years that I'm not Hungry and Constantly Starving. Carnivore Reversed my Diabetes and I lost a 100 pounds in 6 months
I have been able to lose weight at different times in my life. Seeing that lower number on the scale was always exciting and rewarding, but when I hit my goal, maintaining was a drag and I always fall back into old habits.
Biggest take away for me: it’s not so much about the weight, but about health as a whole, including mental heath. I am starting this big change journey in the wake of my dad’s passing. He was obese all my life… But he was unhealthy in so many other ways (probably contributing to his obesity). He had a miserable end of life. That’s not what I want for myself. What you said about identity change really hit home for me. I see so many contradictory things about weight loss that all claim to be scientifically true… It’s hard to find my way… I like your video because it’s not promising easy quick results. I don’t think there can be long lasting easy quick results.
@@danfoundera decent part of my family (on both maternal and paternal sides) is sadly riddled with all kinds of illnesses and diseases, so that truly is so motivating to me. If I already have so much potentially stacked against me, I want to give myself the best fighting chance I possibly can! I refuse to be defeatist and just wait to see what happens… I have agency, power, and control over my body and I damn well try to at least have some sort of balance! Alcohol continues to be the thing I most struggle to give up since it’s such a big part of my social life, but I will continue to work at it and at not consuming as much as I have in the past- it’s just not worth it in the end! Anyway, good luck to us all on this journey to wellness!!
Binging on your videos while at thd gym😊 After giving birth to my 2 personal trouble balls, my weight was over 80 kgs on 162 cm height. I felt horrible. I deleted all social media and decided to start changing one step at a time. Now I am 58 kgs and have been keeping it for the last two years.. I'm 35 and feel happier and look better than I did when I was 16. And the best thing about it is that I don't care what anyone else thinks and I'm not trying to look good for Instagram, but for myself. Your videos represent so well my state of mind over this time, and the information is so well rounded and logical. Keep it up!
I'm a type 1 diabetic. This was discovered when I was 12 years old. My two older brothers were my champions who taught me playing english football. I'm now 64 years old, having lived (so far) for 52 years with diabetes. I am NOT a type 2, fundamentally because I felt that even at such a young age, I wanted to play english football, run in half marathons and half 10Ks, hold my weight and build my strength. I'm in agreement with Dan. This is life extension, the opportunity to do more and the joy of being able to do so.
Ugh, having two full-time jobs waking up at 4:30. Working all day until midnight. Definitely is my biggest issue. Followed by the garbage I eat because I'm out away from home. I tried to be methodical about what I no mayonnaise, no deep fried foods, but I'm thinking my sleep habit has a lot to do with my being overweight
Love this video. Thank you for the journaling plug and reminding people to expect results may take longer. Also that you will evolve into a different person. there was a way that weight was gained. That way has to go as well as the weight! Brilliant.

I really like your advice about embracing an identity change. That is something that is not planned for in journeys like this. Also, I fully agree with separating your bedding. My husband and I did this years ago. We have a King bed with the one fitted sheet under us, but I replaced the top layers with twin sized sheets and blankets. I still have the one King comforter to lay on top to make it all look nice when made up (although sometimes a little lumpy 🙂) This does help a great deal with our different layering needs.
Great information! I’m just now getting back to getting into having a healthy lifestyle. Got injured way back in May 12,2021 in North Little Rock, Arkansas on I-40E but was literally stuck driving a truck while waiting for my now estranged wife to help me. But alas, I chose to get off myself & found ways to rehab.
The biggest take away is build muscle and calorie deficit with high protein intake will make a change. So far I lost 4 pounds of fat and 2 pounds of muscle. So maybe less cardio?
I think the biggest issue for me is consistency. I'm an attorney for a pretty big company and being busy is an understatement. After I retired from the military, I stopped working out. It took 10 years and 60lbs since I retired to say I'm going to do something. Well... I'm still trying but I'm not consistent. I go one week like 2 times and then get busy and don't go to the gym. Then I'll take a week off and start it again. And I struggle when I'm there. I took a bullet in the shoulder and that arm is weak. I don't have friends so I generally workout alone and that's also discouraging. Ugh. Life
"Body positivity" can be an obstacle for someone to reach their goals. If you arent happy with your body's looks but hide behind "being okay being obese", you will not commit to changing yourself.

I went from having the belly of a 7 months pregnant woman, from fluid buildup (Ascites) plus fat, to having a flat stomach and seeing abs muscles. I used to be able to rest my phone and TV remotes on top of my belly sitting straight in a chair. Now i'm leaner in my 40s than I ever have been in my life. Didn't count calories, weigh food, or go on crazy diet plans. Good old fashioned exercise, and eating healthy food.
Any advice for a 5’2, 138 lb, 67 yr old black female with a knee and shoulder replacement? I’ve exercised with kettle ball, weights and cardio most of my life. Replaced joints set me back from 110 to 138 lbs. I felt my best 4yrs ago at 110 lbs. Thanks.
I've lost 40+ lbs in the last 5 months. I still have 25 lbs to go, but I'm doing great! I am more active this year than any other year of my life, and I feel great! Two things I did, aside from exercise: No soda, at all. Not one soda since March. Lots of protein bars. Breakfast and lunch on the weekdays is all protein bars.
Dan your spot on, im 65 years of ag and have lost about 35 kg. It takes time ,its been 18 months. Combination of low carb breiftly carnivore ketio, then low carb. I walk 5ks bike 15 k and weights every other day. Im also lsting to Ted Niaman about protein so getting about 150g a day . Doing keto int fast3 2 mea9 day is actually a breeze now even wigh activities. Dropped all bad carbs but a hol was hard so wzs my low carb bread but back in keto and dro about 250 300 gm a day. I was 115kg now im 79.5 aiming for 70 by xmas . I found that excusise is paramount its not enough to just eat meat and fat cus you will platued i feel better now than i did at 35 , if you write me i will send you my photos.
alcohol is my kryptonite . not that i drink it everyday, but i cant resist it when im with friends , happens like once a week. the rest is easy for me.

That’s my problem is I get impatient because my sister says who is a beanpole she says how long it take you to put all the way down. Did it happen overnight? Did it happen in a week? Did it happen in a few months now it’s took years so it’s probably gonna take you that long to take it off if it doesn’t then, you know you’ve made a huge accomplishment, but I just get very very impatient and then I throw on the towel after about three months

With stopping alcohol, after I started taking the amino acid GABA in the mornings on an empty stomach about 20 mins before eating, I almost completely have eliminate alcohol from my diet. I started taking GABA for the boost in my mood during the day, but notice I had less craving for alcoholic drinks.
I did not get the formula for calorie intake. Do you multiply ideal weight by 10 or current weight multiply by 10? 6:25 Then you are saying multiply by multiple factors, but never say what those are.
If you look at heart rate zones: Walking (unless you are speed walking) is only going to get you into fat burn range. Brisk jogging or running will get you into cardio. And sprinting will get you up to peak heart rate.
That’s not the same cardio he is talking about. Walking is a natural thing we do everyday. Doing specific cardio exercises isn’t useful for weightloss. HIIT and HILT resistance and walking is the best. Cardio is good to build stamina but not to lose weight. .
I'm basically don't drink alcohol, maybe a beer a month...I do like it. But I'm tired and have my share of belly fat, not really energetic and not to much into creativity as lately
Thank you for more practical ways to get this weight off. To focus on calories and protein first. Never heard that before. And the 10% of your weight to loose to give your body time to adjust. 😅
I watched so many in a row not aure which one this is from, however when you said that one of best times to walk is after eating really hit me. It provides mpre energy aids in digestion and probaly more i forgot. Thank you!
It also lowers your glucose curve if you walk or exercise about 10-15 min after eating. It pulls glucose from your blood into the muscles, which can also lower your A1C.❤
Great video. Just a couple of questions. What do you journal about? Or…what am I supposed to write in my journal? Can HIIT workouts with kettlebells replace the traditional weight lifting?

Even in work I'm constantly offered free alcohol, how can an addict say no? I often do, but then I drink or use other substances to cope with existancial dread, because I'm deeply dissapointed in myself. I know exactly what I need to do. You can do it. All you have to do is decide you want something else more. I got cancer last July. I want to live more…. I need to figure out an eating schedule -I homeschool my grandson from 8-3 then work 5-9:30 Monday thru Friday -it's hard because he has autism and ADHD so I have to stay right with him to make sure he does the work. I can't eat at work so figuring out a schedule is hard plus I have osteoarthritis what would you suggest?
Hello, I really like your video. Could you please let me know how you calculate protein? What do you do with the number when you calculate your weight by 8?
But what if you workout at night? Im a nurse so I have long days. My days start at 5:30am and I’m in bed by 10pm but I workout (taekwondo) from 7pm-8:30pm. And I’m staaaarving afterwards
Is there a time either at work or right after to eat your last meal? I used to carry my food in a small cooler to eat according to my work schedule which was crazy. If I wad really hungry at night I'd eat just enough to quiet my stomach in order to sleep. I try to stop eating by 6pm at the latest and even 4pm many days. It really makes a difference ❤😊
I used to be fit befire covid, to be orecise I was around 74-75 kgs. Then covid hit, and over thee course of these 3 years I gained 20 kgs. Hovering around 93-95 kgs. Its been soo frustrating for me to lose this fat, it feels like even a small bite adds 2 kgs to my fat straight awaya and no amount of exercise is able to burn this. All my clothes dont fit me any more....I hate the sight of this huge dome that I've built around my belly and just feel really uncomfortable when I go iut shopping because I know things just dont fit me any more. Its embarrassing and really frsutrating.
It’s so hard for me I’ve tried everything dieting going to gym everyday and my weight is only going up I’m over weight I’m a small person so I look big
So I’m 200 pounds. I need to decrease my calories by I wanna lose 40 pounds times by eight is 320 and then protein grams I want to have like 100 g of protein or more ?? How in the world does Have thatmuch protein in the given day
I really do agree about the alcohol but I think you're missing a key thing a lot of people now drink energy drinks and that may be worse in some aspects. Just something to think about
Hi I am 5’3” with small build, and pear shaped. My ideal weight is 120. If I multiply that by 10 that’s only 1200 cal which is too low. What do you suggest?
I am exactly the same as you. I don't count calories. I try to eat 120 grams of protein in various forms. Veggies and some fresh fruit. I walk 2xs per day most days about 30 minutes (or ride bike for some variety) and lift weights 4xs per week. Sleep is important too. I am 64 and in good health overall. Make positive steps as much as you can every day as much as possible. Don't eat sugar, junk foods, starchy carbs like pasta, bread n rice and avoid seed/ vegetable oils. Eat real whole foods and try not eating after 6pm. Hope that helps ❤

Thanks,Dan.Great video & inspiration for the journey!
The fact that you mentioned childhood trauma made me trust and like you even more, thank you!! It’s heartbreaking to learn about the ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), and consider the long term negative health outcomes folks can have well into adulthood… it is all connected!
Great points, Dan. IMO one of the best investments you can make to drop fat and keep it off is a treadmill. Takes away every excuse not to move.

Thank you. Your story reminds me a bit of myself. Mom passed away and that motivated me even more to get my body in shape.

Binging on your videos while at thd gym😊
After giving birth to my 2 personal trouble balls, my weight was over 80 kgs on 162 cm height.
Keep it up!
This is THE most logical video about weight loss that I’ve seen! So much advice is too harsh and I appreciate all of this advice. 😊
Brilliant.
Changing the way I think in order to change my health. Creating new systems slowly for myself transformation. Great video, excellent presentation and helpful content.
I have a big goal to lose 30 pounds in the next 11months. I’m recreating my habits and releasing what’s not working in my habits. I’m excited to upgrade to a new version of me. 🎉❤

Love how you’re always straight to the point, subscribed!
@danfounder . I’ve been following you for the last month or so. Great information! Thanks for taking the time to help us improve on our lifes overall.

I did no exsucise for year but now have been doing weights in my garage 3x a week coupled wigh track my calories and macros. I eat about 1600 c a day burn about 750 c average daily from act.
Highest was 216. Now I am 191. Goal is 165 and then I lift weights to get my desired physique.

It took years to gain body fat so it won't disappear in a few months! Patience and determination are the key!

GABA as a boost? It is for relxing, destressing and sleep

I did not get the formula for calorie intake. Do you multiply ideal weight by 10 or current weight multiply by 10? 6:25
Then you are saying multiply by multiple factors, but never say what those are.
Great insights!
Glad you enjoyed it!
So far I’m down 24 this year. Just taking it slowly even though it feels like it’s taking forever.
"Cardio is horrible for weight loss" immediately recommends walking for weight loss. Lol
Most of these guys don't consider walking cardio...not sure if he falls in that category though
If you look at heart rate zones: Walking (unless you are speed walking) is only going to get you into fat burn range. Brisk jogging or running will get you into cardio. And sprinting will get you up to peak heart rate.
@dropclutch1 huh? Exactly. Walking IS good for weight loss. It burns fat. Walking is cardio. Cardio is good for weight loss.
Apparently, walking is not always cardio. Go look it up. ✔️
That’s not the same cardio he is talking about. Walking is a natural thing we do everyday. Doing specific cardio exercises isn’t useful for weightloss. HIIT and HILT resistance and walking is the best. Cardio is good to build stamina but not to lose weight. .
Thank you
Great video as always! Thank you!
Thanks again!

Damn I needed this especially about elimination of Alcohol 🍻🍻
Time to go sober!
I really really love running though. I walk on the days I don’t run.

Small question should i do walking after workouts or before in the morning for better fat mobilization.
Do it whenever you can and it’s most convenient for you. Don’t worry about optimal.

@@acevedohiramwell 7 minutes after I woke up it's 2 late. I really need a detox I can be sober when I'm alone. But I'm Czech, drinking is not only tolerated but strongly encouraged, sometimes it feels mandatory. When something good hapends we celebrate with shots, when something bad hapends we drink it out with beer, when nothing happens we go for beer. Even in work I'm constantly offered free alcohol, how can an addict say no? I often do, but then I drink or use other substances to cope with existancial dread, because I'm deeply dissapointed in myself. I know exactly what I need to do. Dissapear for few months and get my life in order. The happiest and most sober time of my life was when I quit school and was unemployed for 6months. I was barely drinking or using and when I did it was just a bit to enhance life. But the moment I started work I started using to escape again.
Anyway thanks for the comment, you are right best time to do it is today.
Gotta start sometime. Alcohol is the worst
You can do it. All you have to do is decide you want something else more. I got cancer last July. I want to live more…. So no alcohol for me, it has been shown to cause higher chances of recurrence of cancer. You can do it. Don’t wait until you have health issues like me. I wasn’t a big drinker, but I did like to have something socially. I don’t need it at all now and am just as happy.
@@sheila7814 thank you, you are hundred 100% right. All you need is something you want more. Don't have that, I work in finance, absolutely hate most of my work. But I know that If I quit I won't be working for a long time. Flunked out of uni and have only experience in finance and almost every position there is soul draining to the max. 90% of the employees are straight up addicts and use all kinds of drugs to escape. Drinking is not only tolateted on the job but encouraged by the boss, sometimes even feel mandatory. I often question if the last 10% that don't abuse drugz even have a soul. They still drink and use but to enhance their experience. Sociopaths with no empathy do very well in my field. I have some money and assets and could survive for year or 2 from it. But I don't want to just survive. I have pretty much made a habit of giving up. I avoided failure for so long I became one. Avoided people for so long I don't even feel human. I will admit it I'm a pus5y. I remember time I had a passion and had no problem putting in 16-18hours of work into it everyday. Failing was just an obstacle on the road and I felt like there's nothing that can't be overcome. I still cling onto hope but the threat it's hanging of is feeble just like my cooked mind. I have always been fit, but now I start to see the abuse on my body. I lie to myself everyday just one drink, little more, then fck it do it all, then some more. I have fcked up pretty good. My wish is to inspire others to change for better.

Is there a time either at work or right after to eat your last meal? I used to carry my food in a small cooler to eat according to my work schedule which was crazy.
