    Its amazing but its a bit slow recognition i see when u press the gass it shows first in your oem dash then after 1sec or so transfered to the digital dash
    Also can it be fitted permanently ? Im swapping my car engine putting an aim custom ecu but the aim display is so small 6inch only i want to use the tablet like u did but the info is a bit slow to show is there a reason why?

    • @matk22
      @matk22 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the reason is due to latency. this latency is between the obd plug and the device, and then the app updating this information on the screen. this combination creates a second or so lag which is ok for general gauges and maybe even mph, but certainly not rpm

  • @csmith9684
    @csmith9684 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Very cool. That lag though, i think i might have Lag-DD bc I can't handle having any delay.. but hey, when driving, the time it takes for your eyes off the road to look at the screen prob. makes up for the delay

    • @foehammer2003
      @foehammer2003  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I found the delay was a combination of slow ECU reporting and natural Bluetooth delay. Mostly the ECU. It was more of a cool project that gave a bit of wow factor to the dash for a fairly basic dash.

    • @foehammer2003
      @foehammer2003  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks! You can, it depends on both your ECU and the theme on the Realdash you choose or purchase supporting those gauges. You can customise your own though fairly easily once you get the hang on the editing layout.

  • @Tulliocity
    @Tulliocity 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I wish OBD was faster. So many cool things that you can get out of the ECU. But that refresh rate on the gauges is horrible. There is no way you would be able to use that as your primary gauge cluster with the RPM's only updating once a second!

    how the tablet on with the opening ceremony
    automatically when you start your ignition key?

  • @bradcogan8588
    @bradcogan8588 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's probably the ECU that has a slow refresh rate. Your main dash gauges will have independent high speed connections whereas the signals for everything else are just for monitoring and warning lights probably so don't need to be as high speed.
    Quick question - Can you connect to get Bluetooth device while using the dash or can it only do one at a time?

    • @Raikolt
      @Raikolt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's most likely the obc2 unit itself. Because you're using a bluetooth (network connection), it likely cannot send all the events with data at a rate of like 10hz. It's probably throttling down the sending of events to around 1hz because that's all the network can handle. an obd2 unit with usb support would fix this issue if your ECU is not the problem

      Hi, yes it can, you'll need a WiFi obd scanner for iPhone instead of a Bluetooth one. They cost around the same. Then you'll need a app like Real Dash, unfortunately I don't use iPhone so I'm unsure what's available on the store.

      You're right, adding a tablet is more of a want 1) as it adds a cool, high tech modern look 2) provides more vehicle information 3) is customizable 4) also incorporates navigation & music (plus video, internet, games etc... when parked). Seems like a lot of good reasons though.

    • @mbr41

    Too many layers of abstraction between the vehicle and the gui.... would work much better if android was removed from the equation and this ran natively on a device. Or even mcu and a display.

      @foehammer2003  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, well I'm using a different set up now, however at the time my tablet wasn't rooted. It may be that Android has changed some access features that now need a rooted device for the app to gain the same functionality as it used to. I cant remember specifically but is there not a work around across you can set to mimic similar functionality? If not then rooting may be your only option. If the tablet is purely for car use like mine was then it shouldn't matter too much, but that's up to you. Hope that in some way helps!
