Missing Titanic tourist sub: noises 'really difficult' to locate, expert says | LiveNOW from FOX

  • The search continues for the missing OceanGate Titan submersible, which disappeared Sunday during a dive to the wreckage of the Titanic. The Coast Guard said that more unconfirmed noises were heard coming from the search area, but an expert we spoke to said noises in the ocean are 'really difficult' to pick out and locate. Adding that its like, "picking one instrument out of a marching band."

    I'm in awe that there is a tourist attraction to the titanic! I'm an ex submariner and served on two different submarines. Going down to the titanic is 1000 times conservatively then what I risked serving. People don't truly understand understand how much more dangerous it is to go that deep vs going to space. At 12500 feet below sea level the pressure is 550000 pounds per square inch. Think what that would do to you if your hand was in a press? Any flaw is fatal!

Even just one person coming back up from that depth takes over an hour because of having to stop and decomp a dozen times. They knew they couldn't find the Titanic without being guided by the mother ship, so if they could, they'd have dropped ballast soon after they lost communication. The fact that they didn't leaves two possibilities:
    1. They lost the ability to trigger the ballast release, the automatic system that was supposed to operate under this circumstance failed, or they fouled on something and couldn't break free after dropping ballast.
    2. The hull failed and either flooded or imploded.
    Also... it was constructed of carbon fiber and titanium which may thermally expand and contract at different rates. Temperatures dropped as they descended. Expansion and contraction would effect the interface between the hull and that big window.

    The CEO, in an interview said his craft was "invulnerable". The interviewer pointed out that the owners of RMS Titanic thought the same (the word used in the case of Titanic was "unsinkable". In this case, I think it is safe to say the two words are rather close in the intended meaning). He just laughed. With that being said, he is down there with them. Clearly, though, safety was given the back seat. I believe in God and I believe miracles do happen. At this point, which would be just after 2am on 6/22 at the location of the search, time is almost up. That is, if it isn't already up! Let's be real! Without a miracle, those men (one being a teenager) are doomed. Even if they find the craft right now, they will have to figure out how to bring the Titan back up. That is, if it is even possible. The searchers really can not intelligently venture a plan to bring it up without locating it and determining what holds it down (like being tangled in wreckage). Another crux is that even if the Titan is floating around somewhere, which I seriously doubt, the passengers are bolted in from outside. They can't even get out, even if they miraculously were to get to the surface. Pray for a miracle, because, without one, this is over. Their deaths cost them a quarter of a million dollars each and Ocean Gate is protected by a thick waiver signed by each passenger.

    RIP to those who are in that submersible. I never believed for once minute that they would ever be rescued. As of right now (6/22/2023, 12:13AM CDT) They have about 6-7 hours left of oxygen and that's considering normal oxygen consumption which is unlikely.

    A common misconception ive been hearing was that when they lost contact=sub had a failure. These subs go so deep underwater that it is impossible to establish any form of contact, so they could have had a failure at any moment during the 5 or so hours that they were exploring the wreck and before they would rise back enough that they could re-establish contact.

    • @meaninglessvalue7778
      @meaninglessvalue7778 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The calculations are for normal, composed breathing. People panicking can consume more than double the average. Their only hope is somehow they can get the sub to surface by themselves somehow if it's still intact. The "salvage" equipment is more of a show of respect at this point, even it they find the sub with the equipment right above it would take more time than they have.
