I'm a longtime fan - and I can't help but recognize how Endtime Signals is really a new iteration of Dark Tranquillity. There has been many lineup changes and as of right now, only vocals (Mikael) and keyboards (Martin) are long time members. That being said I always appreciated how different DT is from album to album and that sure does show with Endtime Signals and Moment, however not to the point where one can say it's not DT anymore. The remaining members (and I suspect Niklas still to this day) did a great job of keeping the DT spirit present even with different people playing instruments. Still one of my favourite bands/projects :)
I'm kind of a newbie to DT (+- 6 years) and I'm finding the same, only with the difference that I'm going from their new stuff to their old stuff. DT have an identity that is so authentic, they don't have to care about printing it to their music. It's going to be there. They're free to create and experiment. They're truely mastered The Science of Noise!

It's no 2000s or even 90s DT, but this might even be better than Atoma and therefore the first album I really dug from them since Fiction. At least 3-4 songs are way more memorable than anything they've done in the past 15 years, but that's just my opinion.

But the new songs grow on me and at least for me it is definitely one of their better albums in recent times, especially better than Moment (too formulaic) or Construct (that one was kind of meh although certain people claim that you just HAVE to like it if you are into the DT discography... Didn't work for me). I like some songs from all over their discography, but for me their only "strong" output after Fiction was Atoma and this right here feels very comparable to it. I especially like Martins keys and the fresh impulse of their new drummer, but somehow I expected something different. Especially Unforgivable sounded both old school and new at once that I really was thrilled, but the other songs don't really deliver the same feeling. Still I can't claim they are boring or bad in any way... It is a hard and diifcult balancing act to find the exact mix of old and new and DT manages to still sound like DT while experimenting with something new. Each album sounds same but unique at the same time and that is an achievment only a few bands can call their own.
I'll admit I've not listened to melodic death metal in years and haven't bought a DT album since...I don't remember what its called (it had the track Monochromatic Stains) but within the first 10 seconds I was getting goosebumps of nostalgia. Time to dive back in to their catalogue. I think I have a lot of catching up to do.
This is really a fantastic song, with all the best elements of DT, which in my opinion are both clean and growling vocals in the same song, and catchy and melodic guitar/keyboard parts.

I think all of the classical "Gothenburg" melodic death metal bands have a great return to form right now, Soilwork is pretty good, In Flames made it back somehow, and Dark Tranquillity also delivers new "decent" stuff although I expected something more technical, aggressive and progressive this time around based on the singles. Didn't get that, but I'm still "okay" with the current state all those bands are in. They had much worse times in the past for me.
I don't know if you will read it but you would make me the happiest metalhead in the world if you played it in Barcelona. I will be the one you see cry with this and some other songs, the emotion and feeling you transmit is impossible to contain
I remember buying longplayers in "Saturn-Cologne" (this was one huge store - before the CD-era) ... They were sorted in various sections. There you had Rock, Pop, Synth, ... (Grunge wasn't even born) ... and you had "Pink Floyd" - it was almost impossible to sort it into any genre. Same goes for Dark Tranquility - they are not metal, trance, death, whatever ... And it is good as it is - Dark Tranquillity is Dark Tranquillity - When i want to listen to them - I listen to them to get exactly that mood that I want to have ... It's so good that they are still around after so many many years.

Arch Enemy, Jinjer, or even Ad Infinitum (sometimes), In Flames, Lorna Shore ... those are also melodeatch (that's the abreviation) ... In my opinion "Dark Tranquillity" have created something that stands out ... that is typical their "sound"

I wish I was you again lol.. you have no idea the greatness you're about to discover. Grab Fiction, then go backwards. Damage Done and Character are amazing. The Gallery and The Mind's Eye are too. Those are the best 4 albums in my opinion.
I feel like the last couple albums have been rebuilding the beast, getting better and better and this might be one of the band's best albums! I know we all love The Gallery and Damage Done, but this has got to be up there in their discography! It's just a shame they had to lose 2/3rds of the original band to get here, but things seem great now!
The chorus for sure is reminiscent of Evergrey. Iirc DT and Evergrey like playing together, both are from gothenburg. DT is better live, but I like Evergreys studio stuff more.
Dark Tranquillity are now consists of only two old-timers who were at the origins of the group - Mikael Stanne and Martin Brändström. Just like In Flames who also remained with two old-timers - Anders Fridén and Björn Gelotte
