Great project, and exactly how I started building stuff. You learn so much by just doing. Whether it works or not you still learn so it's always a win win. My only gripe is that it wasn't a V8 Discovery you used rather than the TDI. But I understand with these things it's as much about what you have to hand as anything else and pretty easy to v8 swap it later if you want. Keep it up
Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying! I did initially want a V8. But, the height of them makes it even trickier! Also…with the road trip that I’m going on next year, the V8 would have doubled the fuel cost!
Hat tip to ‘the boss’ for rocking up and getting involved. It’s not exactly everyone thing, but cool your wife is supporting you from the sidelines. Please post a link to the music!
That’s a very good idea. I mate still have to figure somthing for the footwell support. As it would be a pain having that obstacle near the pedals. But certainly near the back that is a great plan! Thank you!
Congratulations to your lovely workshop assistant! It’s heartwarming to see you working together. When I changed the fuel pump and the starter on our Citroen DS this summer, my wife attended and handed me tools and parts. It’s most fun doing such stuff together. 👍
Great video with great progress, the integration of the two vehicles steering and pedals is impressive. Looking forward to more updates on this project👍
Well well, just checked out Lia's music on Spotify to find out she's actually pretty famous, and then discovered that Charlie is a musician too! Following someone on TH-cam doing a car body swap, then discovering that they're actually proper musicians - mind blowing!
The Aston is really coming along! I also just took a minute to listen to some of your wife's music, she's really talented. I added her to my Spotify playlist. However did you meet a music artist from the states?
Wait, wait, wait...... So you're telling me that's your wife? And she knows about this project...... AND she's OK with it?😅 Man, you gotta look after that woman, one in a billion, she's a keeper 😂
Hahah I will! She even encourages it! To such a degree, she enabled me to entertain the idea of a Maserati bi-turbo… so there is no boundaries to the dodgy cars in our future!
5:57 strongly recommend aluminium angle rivnut every 100mm and bonded, with channel for cross sections (left to right), and ties into the chassis. Mild steel against aluminium isn't good, and by usinv the thinner edge of the rectangular section vertical support is reduced sufficiently. Use the larger vertical face to transfer pressure/ load rather the smaller area taking larger proportion load
Sausage, bacon and egg sandwich, pot of coffee, and HAF video! My Sunday is off to a flying start! The last video appeared for me on a weekday before work. I felt guilty that I was not paying it enough reverence watching it in a rush, as I was, with my weekday breakfast (a large helping of crankiness).
What a great start to the day! That reminds me, I need another coffee! Indeed the last episode was out on a Monday due to some scheduling issues! But Sunday uploads are back and not going anywhere! Thank you for the support as always good sir!
The way the LR floor is shaped, would make is basically redundant. There would be nothing left of it by the time I make it fit! I did order one and then sent it back after measure it all up
Agree with the idea of making a ply template first, but aluminium will vibrate awfully if you use flat sheet for the floor, most vehicles the floors have ribs pressed into them for strength and to reduce noise.
@ you could use aluminum ribs and galvanized under tub supports for a landrover defender rear tub as they are generic and designed to fitting to 2mm aluminum…. I’m just rebuilding the rear tub on my defender 110….
Thank you mate! Glad you’re enjoying and I appreciate the kindness about the editing. Takes a long old time to edit these even though they look simple! Thank you for the support :)

I can’t quite believe they’re all fitted. Such a huge milestone. An absolute make or break moment! And thanks! She’s wonderful :) and amazingly likes my silly build ideas!
Wow, that steering wheel and pedal assembly went in like it was meant to be there. Maybe there's an advantage to putting a British car on a British suv, the design philosophies may have been similar enough for things to work out nicely.
Very cool progress and so much fun you are working together on the project. You could look for a deep dish steering wheel that might be a direct bolt in, so you can get the seat further back but without having to modify the steering column too much.

So no, I’m not doing this badly or not applying myself, I’m just building it in the way that is most sensible for my situation!
