Julie, what has impressed me the most about you is that, as Dr. Langberg just said, you understand that the fruit which God longs for in a believer (or a church) is simply the manifestation of the character of His Son Jesus.
❤ Thank you. Two beautiful women speaking on a topic that is incredibly important. My heart hurts for all of us who've been abused by those who were called to love and protect/support us.
This podcast was a huge gift! Thank you for your honest and incisive comments, Dr. Langberg, and for your devotion and your obedience to Jesus. Julie Roy, thank you for being such an advocate and a champion for those who have experienced deception and traumatic experiences in church. Your devotion to Jesus and the truth is also very inspiring! Let us love Jesus, who never skirted the truth when he called out religious leaders. To this day some dislike Him for his honesty. "44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.” 45 Then answered one of the lawyers and said unto Him, “Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also.” 46 And He said, “Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! For ye laden men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers." Luke 11:44-46
LOVE Diane Langberg so much! Appreciate her views on the system...for sure, Jesus did NOT die for any systems! He died to have a relationship w/ each one who would respond to His invitation.
I love Diane Langberg. ❤ I can't help but view her as my spiritual Mama (Im 63! 😂). I love you, too, Julie! ❤ I confess I'm jealous of your description of your home church gathering in your last (?) podcast. Sounds wonderful. Thank you for turning on the lights so the rats will scatter!
Awww! Would you mind if she's my spiritual Mama, too? I'm 44, we could be siblings! 😂 I wish I could give her a big hug. This topic is so near to my heart. I'm so glad this conversation is happening ❤
Why do so many people think John MacArthur is so great? It seems like there is something wrong with him. It seems like he’s angry. I was fooled by Robert Morris. He seemed like a nice guy - and he’s not nice.
We seem to forget in American Evangelicalism that the "fruit" of miracles and preaching to great crowds are not what Jesus wants; what He wants is our obedience, which means first and foremost loving perfectly, as the Lord loves perfectly (Matthew 5:48). We also seem to forget (in part because of how our Bibles are marked off in sections) that Jesus's words on false prophets, false fruit, and false foundations all go together (Matthew 7:15-27, NIV): "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” We are currently seeing the results (most vividly in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, at the moment) of building on false foundations, of letting bad apples slip into the barrels because out main goal is to fill as many barrels as possible. We're seeing how "a few bad apples" really can spoil the whole crop.

How should the members in the church confront these false shepherds?
yes

How can we change the system?
