Absolute stuff of nightmares. I first “heard” about that story when I was maybe 14 years old in the early 90s… Discovery’s Shark Week was coming up and they were promo’ing a documentary that would air.
At the time I didn’t know what PTSD was…. and I remember thinking “HOW can someone live through that and ever be ok??” 😭
Priceless reaction. A film from 1975 with a small budget that’s still 10 times better than most films in 2022.

It was one of the three most expensive films of that year.
It is an awesome movie but it was by no means small budget.

I remember seeing an interview where Spielberg was talking about how fortunate they were to have him in the movie. He just came off of doing The Sting before this movie.

He was highly liked and respected on set. Was like Richards big brother, to Richard. There all legends in my book. I was born in 1987. We owned this on tape since it came out. This movie is the reason mankind fears sharks like we do. Facts
Alex Kintner was the boy who was attacked out on his raft -- Several decades after the filming of Jaws (1975), Lee Fierro, who plays Mrs. Kintner, walked into a seafood restaurant and noticed that the menu had an "Alex Kintner Sandwich". She commented that she had played his mother so many years ago. The owner of the restaurant ran out to meet her - none other than Jeffrey Voorhees, who had played her son. They hadn't seen each other since the original movie shoot.

This movie is almost 50 years old. You’d never know it from your reactions. That’s why Jaws is one of the best movies ever. It will thrill audiences for as long as people watch movies. This was a joy to watch.
Agreed! I’ve seen Jaws so many times!! I have it streamed on Amazon prime I used to have the DVD And before that VHS! Lol. Yet I still get excited when I see that it’s on television if I’m scrolling through channels and it along with the second jaws are the first movies that I watch at the beginning of summer!😂

It's the fact that the first half of the movie lets you build the shark in your mind, and by the time you see the rubber monstrosity, you're already too freaked out to care. Add to that the excellent score, and it becomes a timeless classic that will continue to scare more generations.
It's one of my 13yr daughters favorite movie and also one of my wifes.
I was 5 when this came out , my teenage brothers were babysitting for the weekend and made me go. I was afraid to take a bubble bath lol
What y'all did when the head dropped out of the bottom of the boat is exactly what the entire theater did in 1975, me included.

I was 9 y/o, youngest of five kids when this opened and my oldest brother decided it would be a great family movie to see. I can attest to the whole movie audience jumping and screaming at that scene.
BTW I grew up on the east end of Long Island, NY and am a retired Naval Officer and every time I go to the beach I think of this movie before getting into the water.
The look on y’all’s faces when Quint was sliding down that boat deck into the shark’s mouth was priceless..
THE original summer blockbuster! This film never gets old :) Love it
It’s amazing how this film was made, it’s a miracle it was even finished given all the problems behind the scenes. The shark kept breaking down, they were weeks behind and over budget, the cast and crew was overworked. At one point when they were filming the scene on the boat where the 3 guys started singing, the film crew started to break down and cry because they were so exhausted and the song perfectly encapsulated how they were feeling.
Yep, it’s through Steven Spielberg’s determination and grit they got this movie made! But, you know, I always thought that if the shark had worked, this movie would not have been as good. It’s BECAUSE of all the problems that Spielberg and his team had, that they came up with such creative ways to get the different shots to kind of show the shark, but not really show the shark. So you had a girl in the beginning being attacked and that was scary as anything but you never see the shark and you have the little Kitner boy die on his raft, but you never see the shark that did it. And all those shots of the shark underwater made her look so much bigger and they didn’t do half with the shark that they wanted to do. Not showing the shark added to the suspense of the movie, and made it so much better! Talk about making lemons out of lemonade! Spielberg and the entire cast and crew said this was a nightmare to film, but it was the best damn movie I have ever seen!
Also this is the film that is responsible for “summer blockbusters” Summers used to be the worst time to release a film until Jaws was released!
You're spreading rumors, they didn't have that many problems making this movie, but people have turned a couple of technical problems into the biggest "fish tale" ever told over the decades. 😂
Fun fact: When the mother slaps Sheriff Brody, the actress had never done a "stage slap" before. She messed up and really smacked Scheider across the face. He remained in character and they finished the scene. It was so good they kept that take in the film.
FUN FACT: The reporter on the beach is actually the author of "Jaws," Peter Benchley!
The beast was another good story made by that author but it was about a giant squid
Quint's story of the USS Indianapolis is a true story. It's one of the worst maritime disasters of all time. They were on such a secretive mission that people didn't know for days the ship was even missing
Spielberg actually DIRECTED this film. Made him a household name.
That story that Quint was telling about the USS Indianapolis actually happened during WW II.
I've watched several good reactions to this, but you guys are far and away THE BEST! And the most fun! I knew Asia would be screaming all the way! LOL! And BJ was scared right along with ya, Asia! He ain't fooling NOBODY! LOL! Incredible how an "old movie" like this still stands up after nearly 50 years! It has aged well, like a fine wine! I have yet to see any reactors be even a little disappointed in this film. I saw this when it was new back in 1975 in the theater, and I was 10, and to this day it remains the most amazing movie theater experience I've ever had! Bravo guys!

Michael Wise, most reactors like Jaws but the reactors on one channel were so incredibly annoying. In the opening scenes when the girl was being eaten and pulled by the shark, they said “why doesn’t she just pull herself up” when she was holding on to the buoy. It seemed like they complained about every scene. Fortunately for us, reactors like them are few and far between.
Asia and BJ are delightful to watch.
Imagine seeing this at the theater in 1975. A Classic. Robert Shaw as Quint was an amazing acting performance, Roy Scheider. and Richard Dreyfuss were awesome as well. So believable they were, and no one could've done a better job, than these 3 great actors.
I don't imagine it ... I did - as a a 7 year old in one of the first movies I ever went to without my parents.
The movie was rated 'parental guidance' ... it was both the most terrifying and greatest film I had ever seen!

I did see it in the movie theatre when it came out in 1975. It was great!
I saw it as a 5 year old in the theaters. I don't think my parents knew what they were taking me to see; we were new to the country. Been terrified of sharks ever since. I've rewatched Jaws as an adult and absolutely it's a great movie. I know that sharks are just animals and not monsters and are a vital part of the ecosystem, but I still don't want to be anywhere near one and I still don't swim in the ocean. Nope nope nope. But definitely one of the greatest movies ever.

I have seen this movie so many times, but watching this reaction was like watching it for the first time. My anxiety was so high. This was so much fun watching.
My dad’s favorite movie. He loved this movie so much that he requested that he be buried with
the movie. So I put the movie in his coffin. One of the greatest movies. Definitely watched it over 500 times. I never get sick of it.

The jump scare in the underwater night scene is one of the greatest ever.
I apologize, I am just too lazy to go through all the comments to see if anyone talked about it, but that riveting scene when Quint is talking about the US Navy ship, the USS Indianapolis is actually a true story. There is actually a somewhat recent movie about it, I have not seen it yet myself.

Robert Shaw is as Quinn is awesome. When he tells his story of being in the water for days with the other soldiers and the sharks got most of them. Actually that's a true story. Gets me in the feels everytime.
I wish you included the scene where the 2 guys throw his wife's holiday roast in the water, and the shark not only pulls out the dock, but follows the guy swimming back, and all you see and hear is the remaining dock, turning around to chase him with the music building. "Get ya feet outta the water!!"

Part of the genius of the movie was using humor, and that roast scene was both terrifying AND hilarious.
Also one of the best examples of 'less is more' - not showing the shark was even more frightening!
Robert Shaw's scene where he tells the story of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis is one of the greatest monologues ever put on film.
The Jaws final battle will forever one of the most tense and epic climax in cinema history for me, the boat sinking, time running out, Brody running out of weapons, the final shots, everything was just so epic.

Guys without going into detail I will tell you that I have a terminal illness and as such I spend all my days alone and to pass the time I watch reaction videos I love your music reactions I've been watching since day one I am so happy you have moved into film and I have nothing negative to say about any reactor but I will say your reactions bring me the most Joy I've had in a long time I love the sincerity and honesty of your reactions so please keep it up and help me pass the time and I thank you very much for that
I have always loved the scene where they compare scars and are getting drunk and singing. It feels like it created a space where the actors can really play around with their characters, and it also has that sense of doom knocking on the door, because they all know they will not stop untill they have killed the shark or the shark has killed them, without any of them saying it out loud. Beautifully written.
The dog that was eaten, his name was "Pippin" in the movie. This is also the name of the dog in the movie "The Meg".
I’m from Long Island NY, and saw this movie when I was 8 years old. This movie changed beach attendance for at least two years. Your reaction to the head popping out of the boat, was the same for everyone. Definitely my first “jump scare” in a movie, and I can’t think of one worse and I’m 55 now.
I lived across the Long Island Sound in Connecticut when it came out and that summer, the kids were divided by who was allowed to see it and who was not. My parents thought it would be too much for both me and my younger sister (I'm 59 now). Sometimes I think the play by play that I got some the other kids was scarier than seeing the actual movie! Remember how some people were even scared of swimming pools and bathtubs? A few years later, the catchphrase, "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, " really gripped the nation!
This was my first movie I saw on the big screen...I was 5 years old and my Dad and uncle were drinking moonshine and my uncle kept pestering my dad to go see it..needless to say I was traumatized and would not go into the ocean for 6 years afterwards,my mom was so pissed off at dad for that 😂
My elder sister (9yold) remained scared of 'the toilet' for about 6 months after seeing this movies.

Jaws came out in 1975. I was 14 and my sister was 16. My father took us to the Mayfair Theater in Philly. The line was literally around the block. We waited 2.5 hours to get into the packed theater. It was the most popular movie ever at that time. It scared the hell out of everybody. My wife and I have watched this every July 4th for the past 40 years. It never gets old.
My sicko father took us to see at the shore. I was about 5.
I watch it every Memorial Day. I also saw it in '75. Best movie ever.
Jaws was the first movie that coined the phrase "Block Buster" just for the fact that people were lining up around the block to see it.

How do you drown a shark? Unlike most other fish, a shark must constantly swim in order to force water thru its gills. If you can immobilize a shark by stranding it in shallow water it will then drown or suffocate. Also, sharks have an ability to sense electric fields. An aluminum cage in salt water can cause an electric reaction that can send a shark into a frenzy much like smelling blood.
Similarly, great whites cannot be kept in captivity - they will stop swimming and just drown.
yes true. many sharks, particularly the "oceanic" sorts do require essentially constant forward motion, as do some other fish like bluefin tuna and rays, but there are many sorts of shark which do not share that requirement.
Tigersharks being the probably most dangerous of that sort of shark bodytype which can rest stationary.

Robert Shaw, who played Quint, was an English actor, playwright, novelist and screenwriter. He performed Shakespeare to critical acclaim. His "Indianapolis" monologue is one of the greatest scenes in American movie history. Jaws has aged well....
His monologue was totally improvised. According to the commentary Shaw was so convincing, Richard Dreyfus believed him that he served!

Interesting movie-fact, Spielberg named the animatronic shark they used "Bruce" which was the name of his lawyer.
When I was a boy, my dad brought me to the drive-in movie to see a double feature when Jaws 2 was released. It was Jaws and Jaws 2 at the drive-in. I was so scared to even take a bath for weeks afterwards. I was only 10 but it left a lasting impression and scared me for my life.

I had an aunt who lived in Florida. My mom told me my aunt was afraid to get in the water for years after this movie. I really enjoyed this movie when I saw it years later as a teenager, especially the Quint character.

Jaws has to be rated a 10. It scared the crap out of as kids, one of the most recognized sounds ever when the shark is near.
My dad worked as a welder on the set of this movie and I remember him coming home with polaroids of him chilling in the mouth of the shark on the set. This movie scared me so bad that I still stay out of the water to this day lol.

Asia holds her stare of disbelief for 10 seconds starting at 17:15. It's priceless!!
This is the movie that made Spielberg very famous. His next blockbuster hit in 1977 set him on the path of becoming a legend. It's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", but if you're going to do it _please_ do the original theatrical release for your first experience with it before ANY other versions. The other releases called "Special Edition" and "Director's Cut" were just not as impressive or fun, and they didn't do nearly as well at the box office as the original did. They painted a darker tone and weren't as positive, fun and uplifting as the original. CEotTK is also a good one to see before you watch "Independence Day" because of a certain fun line from Will Smith in I.D. as you will hear when doing that one! 🖖😎
Close Encounters wasn't anywhere near the blockbuster Jaws was though. It was Jaws that set him on the road to legendary status. Jaws was a worldwide phenomenon.
@@lyndoncmp5751 Before Jaws he was a relatively unknown. Most of us never saw or ever heard of "Duel" until well after bigger movies like Jaws, CTotTK, Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc. Jaws just made Spielberg famous. It was his following movies that made him a legend. Had he dropped out of movie business after Jaws I doubt he'd be considered a legend on Jaws alone. I agree Jaws was a bigger movie box office than CEotTK, but it was those two movies that piled people into theaters on any movie he would make afterward. We piled into theaters to see CEotTK because of Jaws and no one I knew was disappointed. In fact most of my friends and myself preferred CEotTK over Star Wars, where SW was a bigger box office draw then but Close Encounters still did well despite the awesome SW. 1977 was a good year for scifi fans.
Close Encounters was one of the most boring, flaccid movie I ever saw.

Jaws is a Classic!
I remember when this movie came out in 1975, I was 19 years old, and this movie started an all-out panic about going in the ocean. I recall people all over the country, and the world for that matter, were afraid to go into the ocean after seeing this movie!
And that feeling stayed around for years and years after the movie was released.
What a great all time Classic!
I was 10 years old when I saw it in the theater. The next day the Austin American Statesman had an article about the unusual amount of sharks in the Gulf of Mexico. I swore never to into the ocean ever again. I had been to the French Riveria twice.
I was 11 when it came out and also terrified of getting in the water. The fact that I lived in South Dakota and we only had lakes and rivers didn't change my mind. 🤣🤣
And yes, I often wonder what the hell my parents were thinking by letting me go! 😳

Thomas, I live near the Oregon Coast --they average a couple shark attacks almost every year, (Some by Great Whites--they like the colder water here) And people are STILL dumb enough to go surfing/swimmng every summer by the thousands!!
@@alonzocoyethea6148 The chances of getting bitten by a shark are 1 in 3,748,067. And more people die from taking selfies than get eaten by sharks. Or my personal favorite, more people are killed by cows than sharks every year.
Sharks get a really bad rap. They don’t hunt humans. When people get bitten, they are either mistaken as a seal or as an injured/struggling fish. So if you’re not going swimming, make sure you’re never outside during thunderstorms. You’re also more likely to get killed by lightening than a shark.
In defense of the mayor, nobody expects a mythological giga shark the side of a boat with the strength of 20 sharks and intelligence of..like...a human 10 year old to visit their little town.
I grew up on Martha’s Vineyard, and I clearly remember riding my bike down to the beach to see them filming Jaws. The entire island was abuzz with stories and gossip. My friends and I were never afraid of sharks. We were too used to seeing Bruce, the mechanical shark, fail miserably in the water.
I was laughing so hard at your reactions. Especially Asia’s screams at the jump scares! I knew when they were coming and was waiting for it each time! 😅😂🤣

Loved your reactions! Spielberg was frustrated because the shark kept breaking down and sinking. He realized later the movie was better with the audience not seeing the shark too much. My brother and I went into the theater with popcorn and chocolate. 5 minutes in we both threw our food away after the first girl died.
If you notice they don’t show the shark a lot of the time. The music alone and the suspense is what gets you. You guys made more anxious by your reaction. Lol
Spielberg wanted more shots of the shark, but the mechanical shark hardly ever worked and it looked too fake. But the drama and suspense is increased by rarely showing it.
I was 7 when Jaws came out. My 14-year-old brother took me to see it. It scarred me for life. 54 and I'm still not comfortable swimming in the ocean. Oh yeah, I've lived in Florida 15 minutes from the beach my whole life. Lol
We played the theme to Jaws as I was walking down the isle at our wedding. It was the perfect ice breaker for our crowd. Everyone laughed and started chatting with each other, and that was the point. We wanted everyone to enjoy each other’s company. And it worked perfectly!

Loved your reaction. I saw this movie for my 11th birthday back in 1975 with my friends. At the theater the restrooms had dark red tiles with white joints: us girls almost got traumatized when we had to use the bathroom after the movie because it reminded us of the cage with blood, LOL.

This Jaws story is inspired of the true story from the horror event "Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916." Recommend another nature of terror: "The Ghost and the Darkness." It's a true story about two male lions attack the workers while they were constructions the railroad and kills 135 in per month.
Well it weren´t probably that much. The bones, hair and teeth of the lions were studied and the scientists who did the research believe that somewhat around 35 - 40 victims is realistic, a frightening number anyhow.

@@travisfoster1071 The book was written by John Henry Patterson who, of course had good reasons to exaggerate the number of victims, since he had killed the lions. According to the National Geographic article "How many people did the man-eating lions of Tsavo actually eat?" - "By studying the chemical composition of the lions’ hair and bones, Yeake estimated that they killed around 35 people, with a possible range of 4 to 72." Most victims were indian workers who had no experience with african wildlife. YT will block links from other sources, so i can´t post the link to National Georaphic here. Interesting though an analysis of the lion´s teeth in 2000 showed that the specimen that killed most people suffered from massive dental problems which probably made him turn to easy prey. And unlike the thrilling movie the Tsavo lions had no mane. Nevertheless "The Ghost and the Darkness" garanties high tension.

You're right that the screaming of the first woman killed by the shark is horrible. She was rigged to a machine that thrashed her around in the water to simulate the shark attack, but it cracked some of her ribs and they didn't realise she was in genuine agony as she was pulled around in the water. When she screams, "please!" she's trying to scream "please stop" to the film crew. Those aren't acting screams.
Great reaction! Crazy that this came out in 1975 and it was rated PG. They did an awesome job on the shark - it still looks real and believable today.
Amity is a fictional town. Jaws was filmed in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts and it was actually filmed in the ocean.
It almost wasn’t made, as they had several problems with the shark. (Steven Spielberg named the shark, Bruce, after his lawyer - lol).
Movie was way over budget and took way longer to complete than anticipated.
The big reason it takes so long for us to be able to see the shark is due to all the mechanical problems they had with it.
All that being said, it was a HUGE box office smash and is considered the first Summer Blockbuster.
I saw it in 1975 when I was 12 years old and it is still my favorite movie of all time.
P.S. The newscaster that they show on the beach is actually Peter Benchley, who wrote the book Jaws that the movie was based on.
This was before the PG 13 rating was introduced. A lot of Spielberg films are like this. ET, Poltergeist, Close Encounters ect.
I grew up watching this film and it’s one of my all time favorites. I had the privilege to see it in theaters on a re-release and was impressed on how it looked even better on the big screen. You really get the SIZE of that shark
When PG means parental guidance. It's something that lost meaning over the years. I forget who wrote it. There was a study that showed that PG-13 is actually really graphic. Shying away from language and gore actually is worse. Desensitization to violence and other mature themes is a major concern of mine.

It’s amazing that a movie from 1975 can still blow people away in 2022. That’s good movie making. I remember waiting in line for two and a half hours to get into the theater to watch this when I was a kid.

I saw this in a movie theater on the big screen and the whole audience screamed just like Asia when that face popped out of the boat under water at night. A classic.
"You're going to need a bigger boat" is one of the most famous ad libs ever. Up with it is "“leave the gun, take the cannoli.” It was originally just “leave the gun," but the "take the cannoli" was an ad lib.
So we're barely 4 mins in and Asia's hands are already up, and her eyes are 👀! 👀! 👀! I'm dying here 💀
I'd forgotten how good this movie was, and loved to see how much you both got so into it. A great reaction from you both, now imagine, on it's premiere in the cinema, a whole audience of people reacting just like you did. Jaws grossed something like $400+ million world wide.

It is fun watching them react to older movies I saw when they came out. I was visiting my cousin when I was 12 and he had something to do, so my aunt asked if I wanted to go see a movie with her, we ended up watching this at their cinema. She was freaked out screamed and grabbed onto my arm and shoulder repeatedly - like Asia did - by the movie and made me promise not to tell my mom that she took me to see it.

When the shark gets that guy in “the pond”, there is a cut scene you can still find on the net. The shark was, in fact, going for the sheriffs son, the cut scene showed the man in the shark’s mouth, still alive, holding the boy out front, away from the shark’s mouth, as the shark is pushing both of them through the water. Speilberg, after seeing the footage, felt it would be too traumatic & cut it from the film
Never understood that. Quints death is far worse. As is Alex Kintner erupting in a fountain of blood.
The pond scene was original just shot with the fin contraption. No shark mouth etc was shown. Then later on they did some pickup shots of Bruce coming underwater and chomping on the guy.
loved watching this at Olive Garden for lunch. i was laughing out loud so hard other folks were laughing with me. u guys were hilarious. made my lunch alot of fun...🤗😉☺❤👏

This was filmed near Cape Cod Massachusetts, the 2 scary things about that is Cape Cod is over the last 5 years its become a huge hot spot for great white sharks and have already killed a few people over the years. The second thing is Jaws is based off of a true story about a shark off the coast of New Jersey ,that killed a lot of people during one summer, but that shark was thought to be a Bull shark.
Jaws is one of my favorite scary movies from my youth. I remember seeing it at the theater when it first came out. The scene where Richard Dreyfus' character goes into the water to investigate "Old Man Gardner's boat" was a real "jump scare" for many of us at the theater. As a matter of fact, there were some people sitting several rows in front of us, and when they saw Old Man Gardner's head pop up from the hole in the side of the boat, they jumped so hard their popcorn went flying into the air! 😅 I also remember that my little sister was too scared to used the bathtub....and the toilet. She thought a shark might come up from the drain. 🛁 🦈 🚽🙄
When I was a kid they rereleased this into the theaters in the 80s and my entire family went to see it together, my aunts and cousins. I was born here in Sarasota Fl and we practically lived on the beach. After this movie, I could not enjoy the beach ever again. I'm 49 now and I refuse to go into the ocean. You guys are the best movie reactors on youtube in my opinion. I love how BJ was leaning way back in that one scene and then Asia is so funny. I love watching movies with you guys.

The POV only happened because they were having difficulties getting the 🦈 to work. Which worked out better because the fear is in the unknown. It was truly a blessing in disguise. And Jaws made Steven Spielberg's career.
Spielberg was a perfectionist and went way over budget and timeline. Fortunately it was a huge blockbuster and if I’m not mistaken and argument can be made this is the beginning of the blockbuster genre.
You’re correct. There was no concept of a summer ‘blockbuster’ prior to that, Jaws changed all that.
It was...not only that it was the beginning of the SUMMER blockbuster genre. This movie was an experiment on all fronts of abnormal approach to releasing movies: Highly advertised (never happened before), released in MULTIPLE theatres across the country (never happened before); purposely released in the summer...etc..etc. So you are correct, JAWS is the one that started it all and Star Wars sealed the deal.
The fact that "Bruce" [the shark] kept breaking down was a lucky thing in that Spielberg, the crews and the actors were then able to make the terror more real. Fear comes from the unknow, not knowing what the danger is and from where it will come at you. It [in a way] allowed the audiences' imagination to take hold and raise the suspense level. This was the first real blockbuster from Spielberg. Showing the directorial talents of this guy and as they say the rest is history. What he has directed and produced in the years that followed have been some of the best movies that have survived the test of time.
It was the first blockbuster by anyone, if I remember correctly.
I think Spielberg saw the success and intentionally did this with Jurassic Park with the raptors and Rex. Our first glimpse of a raptor is just an eye and we don't get a good clear look really until the kitchen. We see some but it is blurry or in shadows before that. The Rex doesn't have the same suspense building but again it is several minutes of build-up seeing a claw, then the head before it gets out of the enclosure and we see the entire thing.
Amity Island is not a real place but it’s based on islands such as Martha’s Vineyard in New England. It’s a place that has a huge tourist season in the summer but dead in the winter.
I saw this movie 13 times at the age of 9 in the movie theater. You know the movie was rated PG when it came out. When HBO first started they played this movie every day for a month several times a day and I watched it every chance I got. One of my top 5 movies of all time and had a big impact on me. I have not gone swimming in the ocean since.
In the book version which came before the film, she could feel the water under her heave up and down i guess when the shark circled her and her "gut instinct" was kicking in and letting her know something wasn't right. Here's 2 quotes from the book :
Quote #1 - "The fish closed on the woman and hurtled past, a dozen feet to the side and six feet below the surface. The woman felt only a wave of pressure that seemed to lift her up in the water and ease her down again. She stopped swimming and held her breath. Feeling nothing further, she resumed her lurching stroke. "
Quote #2 - "For the first time, the woman felt fear, though she did not know why. Adrenaline shot through her trunk and her limbs, generating a tingling heat and urging her to swim faster. She guessed that she was fifty yards from shore. "
