    @0:50 I can remember being forced to read a story in 7th grade English about treating your workers bad right before Christmas... 3 Ghosts? Jacob Marlow? Anyone?

      6 years ago I lost a job right before Christmas because the company I worked for got outbid for the project I was on - it sucks. Luckily I landed on my feet, but, yeah, companies should just NOT DO THAT.

    If you like 5e mechanics and want a different setting with a few new mechanics in it, I'd really recommend checking out 'Ruins of Symbaroum'. It's really good, sort of a darker setting, magic is corrupt, the forest is a dangerous place you ought be well prepared for before going in. It sets up friction between different groups really well, The Ambrians vs the barbarians, civilization vs wilderness, Followers of the Iron Pact vs Explorers and treasure hunters.

    Good spotlight! I've just recently jumped into Kobold Press' line of books and boy am I late to the party. I wish more people talked about their products. Their Midgard setting book is one of the best I've seen.

    I hear a lot of good about Kobold Press stuff. I'm finding 5e super easy to port over to DCC, which, as you know, is my preferred D&D-esque rules system.

      Me too! It is a super easy port. I made this vid knowing that adaptive people can take stuff to DCC, Forbidden Lands, Symbaroum, whatever.

    How do we boycott without causing more layoffs? They laid them off when their profits were up.

    • @RPGImaginings
      @RPGImaginings  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Corporations have a long history of laying off employees regardless of whether it makes sense or whether their finances could be altered with it. They're choosing heavy harm to their employees to enrich or do much less harm to execs and shareholders. It is an old tale. In my mind, that means we continue to work to sink Hasbro by just not giving them any money. Companies can't survive reduced revenue indefinitely. Their workers are better off being picked up by smaller companies that will respect their skills and livelihoods.

    Kobold Press makes great products, and even produced some of the WotC 5e books. The Creature Codexes are well worth the money, I rely on them heavily as my players have approx. 40 years as players under their belts and know all the standard monsters...adds some tension when they don't know what they're facing. Wolfgang Baur has been invaluable to D&D for quite a while.

    I've had a soft boycott since 4th edition that's become a hard ban since the ogl scandal.. I just can't stand WotC wreaking my favorite TSR settings. There are plenty of alternatives on the market.. OLD school essentials, Swords and Sorcery, DCC and on and on. We are not starving for options or choices. I'm finished with Hasbro

    I haven't played D&D since V3.5. I DM'd AD&D 2nd Edition in my teenage years. 3.5 for a few years as an adult. I've been away from the game for roughly 20 years. Now that I'm debating on getting back into it, I don't recognize D&D anymore. I'm about to start playing DCC

    Speaking for myself, role-play centric gaming became interesting to me as dungeon-crawling started to become monotonous. It's something one might have to grow into, especially if one starts gaming fairly young like I did.

    • @RPGImaginings
      @RPGImaginings  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do think that there is a strong correlation between role-play central gaming and social maturity, based upon my decades of experience at FLGS, home, and at many Cons. There are a lot of 40-year-old adolescents in gaming and I'd honestly rather stab my eye with a pencil than game with them.

    Late stage capitalism says that it's about shareholder value and a fiduciary obligation to the stockholders, while extracting value vs. building value.
    We 'make' money, not build true wealth

      Yeah, I think it's reductive to treat major corporations as if "foolish decision-making" is behind money "making." Perhaps because it's easier to stomach that than admitting that they do it purposefully. Who's to stop them?

    If you give a rough geographical layout near to a location. Then put conventional structures found in that region. Random tables for objects, NPC careers, resources, encounters, weather, ect. An analytical view of population, economy, and laws. You could develop a module that is very story light. However, there is more to how this information can move a story told by players with logical. reasoning. GMs need consistent facts, stick with keeping notes, and being arbitrator. The story is the ones players tell to others after the session.

    Good start Hasbro, but don't half-ass it. Fire the rest of the WOTC now. Then sell DnD to TSR.

    • @RPGImaginings
      @RPGImaginings  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you mean the "new" TSR that is financially worthless and has a long history of offensive perspectives and statements? The Ernie Gygax one? If so, ew gross, no thanks. This "new" TSR is known for pushing very specific hurtful politics. You'd think the anti-politics-crowd in gaming would steer clear of them. Or, is it that people don't want politics they don't identify with?

      @@RPGImaginings They're decent enough human beings to have had a hand in creating the game you play, but for virtue signal points you decry them based on their generation and the time they were born (which they have no more control over than you do). Hypocrite, unforgiving, inflexible. They have said or done nothing wrong, they just have opinions you don't like, based on the norms of their formative years. Disgusting.

    Oh poop off with that boycott crap. I have been playing D&D my entire life. Boycotting would help in the demise of D&D. Myself and everyone I know will NOT stop playing D&D.

    • @RPGImaginings
      @RPGImaginings  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Good. I never said you should. Who said I'm not playing DND? I've played DND more this past year than any other game. We have a regular 5E game averaging twice a month. I'm not boycotting "DND." I'm boycotting Hasbro. I have enough 2E stuff alone that I could (and will) play DND for the rest of my life. So does anyone who purchased a 5E (any edition) set of basic books.

    • @IsAStormComing
      @IsAStormComing 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RPGImaginings "I never said you should". Like hell you didn't. Creators like you put these rage bait videos out there to rile up the masses and to get views. What do you think will happen if you "don't give Hasbro any more money"? The most obvious answer is that even more people lose their jobs. People at Wizards who produce the game that I love. People who had nothing to do with any of this in the first place. Also, I'm assuming you don't realize that the phrase you used - "not giving money" to a company is synonymous with the word boycott. What do you think would happen to WoTC if all of a sudden no one bought their products and only bought third party?

    • @RPGImaginings
      @RPGImaginings  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@IsAStormComing Consider the possibility that what you see as "rage bait" is actually the most ethical path for workers for other people. I'm not telling you how to feel. I'm telling you how I see a situation. If that causes you to react with "rage," that seems to me like a you problem. Why is the thought of a better future for workers "rage-inducing" for you? Losing DND is not worth better jobs for people for you? I don't know what jobs you have held in your life. Companies that treat their employees like this are not doing them any favors in the long run. Anyone who works at WotC is probably better off working at a company that will treat them like a human being, not a number. As to the answer to your question: We know exactly what would happen. DND would either be sold off (unlikely), or they would hang onto the license and not produce any more content for it until their economic situation improves. Hasbro holding the license is BAD for the hobby. Hasbro going under is only a problem for gamers who are tied to "official" products. The ttrpg world is FLUSH with content. Why would it need to say "DND" on it in order to be useable? It is very clear that you love DND. Awesome. My love for DND is not defined by loyalty to a company and never has been. The long game for all of this is an outcome that is BETTER than simply preserving the status quo. The long term solution is to end toxic business practices that allow companies to do this to employees while executives and board members suffer no measurable consequences. This behavior is not illegal in the US, but it is CERTAINLY immoral and unethical. But you don't care about that so long as you get DND in an "official" form? The only way we accomplish better conditions for creatives at Hasbro is sinking companies and supporting the people who lose their jobs to get them into better situations. I know that's a few steps ahead of where you are thinking. That is the difference between us, I think. Your thinking seems to end at anything past "me not have DND."

    • @RPGImaginings
      @RPGImaginings  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You know that you're not forced to watch my videos, right? If they're rage-inducing for you, maybe everyone is better off with you finding a Channel that doesn't do that? You are certainly welcome to stick around. But why stick around when it is having such a big impact on you emotionally? Watch things you like.

      Nobody is going to stop playing D&D
      It’s more about supporting the publishers that represent the flavor of D&D that suits one’s tastes.
      This isn’t about “boycotting D&D” the game…most of the people in this comment section are actively talking about the D&D they’re going to play instead of “official D&D.”
      Do you think Boycotting FIFA is going to kill Soccer/Football? Should we not Boycott FIFA too?
