The most legendary scam response I remember is when the scammer requested a PayPal request from the recipient. The PayPal request was sent and the scammer accepted the transaction, without realizing the request the recipient sent was to TAKE money from the scammer, NOT giving it. So not only did the scammer not make any money, but the recipient got $10 out of the whole ordeal. Cherry on top: scammer was openly malding and begging for their money back.

I once got pulled over by a cop while driving through a town famous for fake cops. His name was James Bond and he introduced himself as county police (my vision is bad enough that I can't easily tell the difference between highway patrol cars and county cars with similar lights, and uniforms seem to vary heavily), but his badge didn't come up in the county thing when I got home. Thought the tickets were fake. Called the county he claimed to work at to report his scam. "Hey, I'm calling to report one James Bond-" "Oh, he's not ours, he's with the Highway Patrol. If there's an issue, I can put you through to the appropriate office." "Ah. So... He's real?" *slight laughter on their end* "Yes, he's real." "Fu- uh... No, no issue, thank you."

People scamming those who lost their pets is infuriating. We found a cat with no collar one Saturday night, kitty wandered into the house with us. We gave him his own comfy space until we could take him to get checked for a chip on Monday. We let the Vet handle the contact since getting a phone call from a veterinarian seemed less sketchy than a call from random folks around the corner. Kitty made his way home to two very happy kids, and every so often he still wanders past the house

I remember that a few years ago, I was just going through my email and noticed that my spam folder had something. Turns out it was a scam email about how some dude found out one of my passwords and tried to blackmail some money out of me. The email was full of only red-coloured text and everything to make it look scary or something... (I think it even started off with something like "I'm a hacker who's found the password to one of your accounts" or something)
Now, the real issue was that it really was one of the passwords that I had used... Just that I used that on a third-party Club Penguin site after the original CP went down, but mainly as a tribute to my original CP account that I had made when I was like 7-8 years old. And that password was something that I had never used anywhere else...
I was initially quite shocked that one of my passwords got leaked... Until I read which password got leaked... Then I just laughed really hard and deleted the email...

I would be pretty scared if say, any of my other passwords were leaked as those belong to websites/services with proper security measures...

I received a scam from "Amazon", which said my order was processed to my PayPal. Apparently I had an order for 14 items, which if totalled correctly, would be around $2100 (I live in Scotland, so I am not sure why it was in $), however, their total was around $1300, hmmm. Then it had a different box which said total order $256, the tax was subtracted, so I guess they covered that too, and the total amount charged was $193. I don't even have a PayPal. I was more insulted by the lack of effort. When this first started there was some creativity, now it's just fly fishing. I don't get a Nigerian Prince, a lost inheritance, a sweepstakes, or even a hardship story... Isn't crypto supposed to be a "long term investment?"
It's weird that someone would think a senior living center would be a good place to sell any form of "long term" investment - especially when said "investors" are not going to be around "long term" anyway.

The story behind the crypto one is actually heartwarming and not a scam. That kid is a college sophomore going to senior homes teaching old folks about crypto so that they won’t get scammed. He did tell the people that it’s more for long term investment into the future of web and it’s risky, so he doesn’t recommend it and advises against it. He did say “if you really want to invest, start with something more stable or established like bitcoin or ethereum” but it’s not really a sales pitch.

I disliked the idea because I thought, “Well, If I give out my phone number and I don’t get theirs, I won’t be able to text them” but otherwise I think it’s a good idea to avoid spams. I don’t use it, though, because spams aren’t as prominent in my everyday texting experience so it’ll just take up space on my phone.

15:23 That kind of scam is somewhat common where I live. Banks and large companies that give their own credit lines to customers often sell customer debts to third parties (which is a common practice I believe). Thing is, instead of doing the legal procedure for payment collection, some douchebags use letters similar to these ones to coerce ignorant people into paying.
During the 90's, an uncle lived with my grandparents. He got some debt, and then when he went to pay, for some reason they never accepted the payment and instead wanted to go with judicial collection. So my uncle made an in court payment (a procedure where he admits to have a debt, says the other party doesn't want to receive the payment to pile up interest, and proceeds to leave the payment in court's custody in case of a future trial). Around 18 years layer, that debt was sold to a third party, and those idiots went to my grandparents home to ask for the payment. My grandpa, not a fool in the slightest, took the papers they brought and closed the door in their face, then called me to ask about it. I read the documents and they were clearly private documents, but they said that the dude collecting was supposedly a court's official and he came to take the payment in money or goods. This was soooooo fake I laughed several minutes and told my grandpa if someone came again with something like this, he call cops immediately and say some scammer is impersonating an official (a federal crime here) and don't let the fool enter.
I think a year later, they tried again, my grandpa called me about it, and I told him to call police. In the end he went out and told the dude either he scram that moment or he awaits for the cops to take him for trying to pass for a court official. The dude ran out of there at that moment, and that was that.

The wifi still worked, but without internet. We called them, had to lie to the bot to get it to give the right options, then spend 2 hours on hold. They then charged us to send someone out to tell us the router is fried (which we already knew) and that we would have to buy a new one.
