    I have had my Osmo Pocket for a month now and I love it, one of my best purchases ever. I made a 20 minute video walking through my house with it and edited it on iMovie and it was dead easy. I bought the control stick for it and a case that fits it with the control stick on and it’s perfect.

    I'll admit, I initially didn't see enough difference to justify "upgradig" to the Pocket 2, but this comparison has persuaded me that because I can use so many of my existing accessories, the additional features that suit vlogging like the improved stabilization make adding the pocket 2 to my camera bag a realistic option.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it isn't really upgrading, it is basically buying another type of camera.

    • @panzerschreckpete
      @panzerschreckpete 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHybridShooter I agree that there's significant difference in use case to justify, and the form factor is so small that having both of them available to hand adds almost nothing to the weight when travelling and waalking around but allows more time shooting rather than charging. I do like the improved value of the Creator combo.

    I find that the DJI Osmo Pocket and Pocket 2 have a much better camera than the GoPro Hero 8 and Hero 9. I had used both GoPro Hero cameras in a test. The video quality was anything but good. There was a lot of blurring and noise. Other settings, such as 2.7K or 1080p, were also unsuccessful. In the same test, I also had the two Pocket cameras. But there you have real 4K. No image noise, no blurring and the recordings are not split every 5 minutes, as is the case with the GoPros. The battery in the Osmo Pocket also lasts longer than in the GoPro. I know that the GoPro is an action camera and the DJi is a gimbal camera, but nevertheless the GoPro should also record in the quality that is stated on the packaging or on the website. Unfortunately, I had extremely blurry images with a lot of noise in every video and things got even worse in ultra wide angle mode.

      @@TheHybridShooter Hi, now that i have the pocket 2 (thanks again) i discovered some things that you might want to outline in your future video regarding the pocket 2.
      1: The Joystick is not "analog" but just a digital on/off knob in combination with a acceleration curve. on the other hand the extension rod or in the mimo app you can move the gimbal in an analog fashion.
      2: speaking of the joystick controll, there is no way to switch the movement to inverse. this is something that would be great if i can change the direction to my prefered "brain" muscle control.
      3: Active Track, this is very limited and not very reliable. It looses the subject very fast. Other brands do this way better.
      4: Active Track on a tripod. A big limitation is that you cannot rotate 360°. So you cannot walk around in a circle around your osmo pocket and track yourself. Also here some other brands do this better. The rotation limititations (around 150°) seems to me a bit arbitrary to me
      5: Mimo App: Unfortunately, there is no possibility to create stations/points that are then automatically driven through as there are with other Gibal apps. that would help to automatically run programmed movements.
      But for everything else, the thing is really great and the quality of the recordings with cine-d is really impressive.
      Thank you and keep up the good work with your channel!

    Is the Pocket 2 allowing users to specify other bitrates than 100mbps? Like for example 80mbps, 60mbps, 30 etc.This information is VERY important for me, because I intend to purchase a Pocket 2 and a DJI Mini 2, but I am very hesitant. Why? Because all my footage shot with the Osmo Pocket 1 @4K 60fps 100mbps bitrate, was impossible to edit on both my Windows PC and my Mac. I was unable to edit my footage, it was dropping lots of frames on playback and it was impossible to scrub. In the end the only way I could edit my clips was by converting them first to 4K @60fps 60mbps with HEVC encription using Handbrake. After conversion editing and scrubbing was very smooth both on PC and the iMac.

      That is very strange, h.265 HVEC requires much more processing power, due to higher compression rate, h.264 requires much less processing power, so the issue might be elsewhere.
      I think that there is an option to lower the image quality, which decrease the bitrate, but those will be the same options as with the original OP.

      I have the Scotty Creator Case for my Pocket 2 and the only problem is that if you don't take it out of the case, you're reduced to using a cable connection for data transfer which seems a great deal slower than putting the micro SD card in an adapter and sticking it in the computer.

    The Pocket 2 is OK but I am in the process of buying a DJI Osmo Pocket, second hand, because I can get it so cheap. As I am starting out making my own videos there is no reason to buy expensive gear before you learn the process and think about what content you want to produce. The main reason for me not buying the Pocket 2 is that they should have made it a bit larger to fit a bigger battery AND included all the features from the "do it all handle" into the main unit. Excellent review and comparison.

    Pretty good review - however, I have seen demonstrated in other comparison reviews that the Pocket 2 Active Tracking has some issues when the moving subject is medium to far distance from the camera. In contrast, the original Pocket Active Tracking works beautifully. This was the dealbreaker for me because I need to have the camera follow me. I have the suspicion that using the larger sensor has introduced new problems with Active Tracking to DJI, and they haven't quite been solved - or did they correct the problem in new firmware? If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out Roo's Reviews comparison.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have already talked about that in 2 videos.
      P2 tracking works very well if the subject is close to the camera. Ultra-wide lens makes the tracking of the whole person much more difficult and it also emphasizes sudden movements. Tracking performance probably had to be sacrificed because of the ultra-wide FoV.
      I don't really see a real-world use for tracking subjects far a way from the camera, so I don't mind it that much.

    I'm trying to get used to my Pocket 2 and it has some great potential for video, but I'm so frustrated with its panorama performance. It captures 4 or 9 HD images and then stiches them together into a tiny little distorted low-res composite. I have the DJI Mini 2 (smaller sensor) and when it captures panoramas you get amazing large detailed results. DJI obviously have the SW algorithm to do this in the Mini 2 so why can't we get this from the Pocket 2?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that you need the app for proper stitching.

    • @GerryM.
      @GerryM. 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHybridShooter Thanks for the response. I've tried DJI Media Maker and it stiches them together, but the image is still distorted. It also can't deal with Raw files. I've tried Lightroom, Photoshop and a few others and it's just way too much effort for mediocre results. Why can't it just work like it does on the Mini 2? 😢😢😢

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because Mini 2 has different FoV and low-res sensor which requires only a fraction of processing power... There has to be distortion when you are stitching already ultra-wide images. The whole panorama mode is more or less redundant of Pocket 2.

    Well, 11:42
    I have to say I prefer the Osmo Pocket picture on the right over the Pocket II with Zoom on the left. There are some other examples in this video showing less barrel distortion with the Pocket 1, and maybe some better colour grading out of the cam as well...
    For my taste, the Pocket II is a bit overdone for its size. The bigger sensor is not automatically the better sensor.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only agree that Pocket 1 might be slightly better than Pocket 2 with zoom. Other than that, Pocket 2 captures more detail in every situation. Bigger sensor basically is automatically better at this stage of technology. In this case it is mostly about preferred field of view.

    • @rheinerftvideo2647
      @rheinerftvideo2647 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHybridShooter The preferred field of view should be up to the user, with different lenses.
      I do not like GoPro-style footage. I do not like bending trees, landscape and bending architecture :-)
      The smaller field of view is the more detailed for me. That´s why photographers always have a classic 50mm with them.
      When Canon changed the sensors for cams like SX 200 IS, it was basically not that good anymore.
      Cheers to wonderful Bratislava from Germany, Bernd

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In that case it just isn't for you... A lot of users were asking for wider FoV and I also think that 20mm makes sense as I have explained. I like it as it is, so I wouldn't really change anything. Focal length has no direct affect on detail.
      I don't even own 50mm lens, it is my least favorite focal length, so we will have to disagree on that :)

    • @Heahke
      @Heahke 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHybridShooter I'm confused you say the image quality on Pocket 2 is better. See th-cam.com/video/u8AaOWgntUU/w-d-xo.html - the trees on Pocket 2 are a hot mess. Also comparing the large tree on the left on Pocket 2 to the farther away trees on the right on pocket 1. I don't care if it's "just a sharpening issue", the detail just isn't there. I'm not trying to justify Pocket 1 or 2, I have both lying in front of me and I was shocked by the muddy mess that's Pocket 2. Especially photos. I'm sad because I "need" the higher DR on Pocket 2 for my family videos. I was wondering if I got a potato Pocket 2 but this comparison shows the same problems. It's soft, REALLY soft and I really don't like that.
