    After no coolant leaks found, you found an oil leak. I almost fell out of my chair! Long live the N54!

    I really hope that you flushed all the cooling system to make sure no other pieces of the radiator cap were floating around before installing the new water pump, another piece can easily get lodged in the new pump and distroy it.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are correct, however the pump being the lowest part of the system makes it difficult to flush anything other than the overflow bottle.

      All the cold winters, snow, ice and the salt on the roads. Its a recipe for corrosion. I'm in the UK. We occasionally salt the roads and my car is rusted on all the lower parts near the road surface for the same reasons.

    Cover everything in degreaser, jack front of car up, get patio cleaner head for your pressure washer and use that underneath, I’ve found it works a treat at cleaning the underside! Just use normal pressure washer for the top with degreaser again and long wheel brush!

    I goto the car wash by me that has a lift in the one bay, I buy a bunch of bottles of engine cleaner spray it all over my engine top and bottom (I remove the bottom tray) I start the car and while its running I pressure wash the hell out of it everywhere making sure to spray facing away from the ECU box when it comes to that side of the engine compartment. By the time I am done the car looks new again! This also helps identify where a leak is actually coming from as its not a giant grease ball anymore.

    My 135I just started leaking I'm assuming from the water pump after sitting for 2 weeks. I was supposed to replace it before moving to Atlanta but I was sent the wrong one but I did replace the thermostat which this video does a good job or explaining how to just do a water pump. The same thing happened to my WP on my N54, although it was the red 'level float' stick that sits in the coolant reservoir, it had disintegrated/snapped off and a piece lodged inside the WP propeller causing it too fail!

    Very nice fix. My new water pump is a Continental with plastic housing, unfortunately. They crack through heat cycles and age. Not only in warm countries. In Holland we are in a sea climate, so nothing crazy. Mine was cracked, but only losing a small amount of coolant yet. It was 11 yo and only 83k km's !!! Now I know INA sells a complete aluminum pump, my next pump will be an INA one. INA is actually a German water pump supplier for BMW. Maybe they saw these pumps fail and did an aftermarket upgrade.
    We are lucky here. There's only one (manual) car wash in our county that offers a high-pressure degreasing program. I wonder for how long this will be possible. So 2 times a year I go there and degrease the whole engine and bay. It's like new, I can tell you. I get compliments every time I go to the MOT inspection(ones a year in my case). Hopefully, there is no oil leak at the turbo oil feed line O-rings. But now you guys have to lower the subframe anyway, it's a much-relaxed job. The n54 doctors will strike again ;-) . Dutch regards, Nico

      At this point in time im gonna leave the tuning to the guys that know best. These are super easy to make a little bit of power on (which is why there are so many internet tuners out there), but then they are very hard to perfect things like timing corrections, especially during load certain conditions. I have spoken in depth with JSR (the guy that has tuned mine) and for the money its not worth trying to learn yourself. Unless you want to invest 100s of hours in to it, which i just cant do..... got too many videos to edit haha. On the same note, if you have time i think its something great to learn about yourself. Even if you end up paying for a tune, having some background knowledge before you pay for a tune will net you a better result i bet.

    Hi, love the videos keep it up
    You seem to be abit of an N54 guru and I'm completely stumped so I've been through around 5 water pumps in the past year my current one has a very strange issue and I wondered if anyone else has experienced anything like it, when the engine runs the pump doesn't work, no codes nothing just stops working secondly when the car is locked / unlocked or doing a bleed procedure it runs absolutely fine but the second I turn the engine on overheating is imminent I'm completely stumped and refuse to buy another waterpump. Strangely enough I've just attached it to a battery charger thinking it could be voltage related and that's also stopped the pump working briefly.

    That's oil filter housing gasket leak. Going down where the cylinder head gasket is located and then it goes down the back. If that's a track car/daily do the OFH gasket and the hose that goes from cylinder head to thermostat (have to pull fan) because the plastic part is mush, they make an aluminum one that is permanent. The main way these car die is to overheat. Don't play with cooling. Don't want oil and coolant to mix in the OFH. Good luck, she is in good hands.

      @@ZeroTo60Tube ah ok thats good then. the stuff we go by in canada is the oem blue stuff from bmw since anything else would ruin the gaskets

    Is it more reliable than the version before?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well most of the failures i have seen have been the plastic cracking. I haven't actually come across many at all where the motor in the pump fails.

    Has this water pump proven it self more reliable?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hasn't failed yet, but i wouldnt have expected a normal one to either. Its the sort of thing that will take 5-10 years to probe itself.

      @@Alexdinho10 great to hear. I had a pump fail at about 80k miles. So replaced pump and thermostat.
      My 335 has not been used for about 18 months and the water pump missing code is coming up. Have checked all the connections and bsd line. All seems fine so pump does seem to be toast. It is a continental with plastic outer. I have a pierburg full metal pump to replace it with.
      I've contacted some local mechanics to see if they can fit it. They are taking ages to even respond so I might have to fit it myself. Hoping that's the only issue the car has.
