    Again Andy you show us the right way and prove it by showing us video of a certain "pelican" who shouldn't be allowed to have any tools given the way he operates and thinks at times! I was working in a truck workshop back in the day and old mate in the bay next to a fuel tanker decided to remove and damaged bracket of the truck next to the tanker and break out the old 9 inch grinder and have at it with a spark show that had us yelling and running for the hills as he showered the tanker with sparks!!! Main worry was this fella was a qualified diesel mechanic of over 30 years experience and we wondered how he had survived this long without killing himself or anybody else. Maybe the pelican is related to this fella....lol

    I can honestly say I had PTSD watching this remembering the 3 separate seasons I had to pull the top off my GS850. Thanks for the memories guys!

    Ah, nostalgia 😢. Had mine with an 1100 kit, Andrews cams, welded crank, ported head and 33mm smoothbores. It made over a 120bhp, believe it or not, that was a lot then.
    Thanks for the video.

    Nice job Andy. This video will be helpful to anyone rebuilding one of these GSs on a budget - which is likely the case with many today, some 40 years after they were built. In taking this route you addressed clearances and contact points that would not otherwise come up with new valves. Good stuff!

    Re: The valves, the exhaust valves from the Turbo 323/Ford Laser from the early 90's have the right stem/head diameter but need to be shortened and have new collet grooves cut..The cheap way to put stainless steel valves in a turbo gs1000 😉

    Andy, as always its a pleasure to watch you bring back a GS1000 Suzy to the life it so richly deserves. Its funny, I don't remember my chain tensioner giving me that much grief going back into place. Now having said that, mine was a '78 model, maybe a design difference? I know when I had mine, going overboard with speed parts was the norm here in Canada. After two years of riding (bought the bike brand new in '78) I felt it was becoming "stale" and not invigorating to ride anymore. So, a big cheque to Yoshimura Canada was written to cover the cost of an 1187cc bore kit, 29mm smoothbore carbs, Radical racing cams, lightened valves, port and polish the chambers, weld the crank so it wouldn't twist...went from a stock 86? hp to probably 140hp or more....let me tell you, it was scary. Nowadays 150hp comes from stock bikes. But a '78 1000 that even though it was the best handling bike on the market then (thank you Suzuki) I'm sure I was taxing the limits of the stock frame to handle that much power. The tach meant nothing now...just shift when the motor wasn't pulling anymore. The tach redline was 8500...probably shifting around 11 thousand? Now grinding the pegs on both sides was fun again...along with the 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd gear wheelies. Gads, I'm at a loss to explain how I never killed myself back then driving like a maniac. Hehehe.
    Heres a link to a '78 I found and bought back in '09. 23,000 original km on it. I hope it works. photos.app.goo.gl/GMsGiaid7QaQE8G36

      Great looking bike mate 👍 I made similar mods to my XS1100, I understand. As for my struggle with the tensioner, it was just me being careless and assuming that it would just clearance at all positions, I didn’t realise there was a channel that it runs in 😕

    Ok I understand, thanks Andy. You did however teach me how to remove and reinstall the cam chain tensioner which looks similar to my GS11100e engine. Now I'm more confident to remove it and see where that tiny bit of oil is coming from, Cheers!!

    Those ground valve surfaces look very large - I hope your engine builder / head guy used specs from the service manual regarding the seating surfaces... there will be specs for the contact patch (face), the margin (widest part of the valve below the face) and so on.

    • @ANDY5
      @ANDY5  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The engine reconditioner did exactly what I asked, “grind the valves please”. Intake valves are fine, exhaust will be okay for this bike but like I said. I would recommend replacing them.

    Nice one Andy, when I was putting the barrel on the crf250r I rebuilt was a complete prick hence why I haven’t been into another bike engine since, was wondering how you were going about it with 4 slimy fiddly bastards to deal with but got it done with relative ease, I’m used to sliding caterpillar pistons in from the top so she’s chalk and cheese from this malarkey. I still reckon he’s doing it because Matt said on a video that too many people are cutting up busa’s and turning them into custom bikes.. haha jokes on him because if bending pipe with a ring spanner is a good idea I can’t imagine the rest of it.

    I never bother compressing the rings with jubilee clips just feeding one ring at a time compressing the with my fingers
    Great clip of a beyond stupid bus driver let loose with a grinder, there is a lot off piss taking about his pipe bending, that video might be worth watching for the comedy value
    DGR is a great charity, didn't realise it was world wide. I must admit I do feel a bit of a bell end dressing in charity shop tweed to ride my bike but it does raise much needed money for great charity's

    Wow definitely a two man job fitting the cylinders. Andy did you straighten the bent valve before installing it, you never said?

    • @ANDY5
      @ANDY5  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. Once it has been ground it is concentric. Taking the small wobble out will mean the machined face will no longer be concentric with the valve stem. That’s why I said that you have to straighten it before you grind it.

    You seem to e obsessed with watching every minute of somebody else's channel and then picking fault and ridiculing it. Why ?! Are you the You -Tube police ? I'm sure there's loads of other creators you could pick on, plus if you have a beef with one in particular maybe not stoop so low to include a man's wife in your bullying.
    I notice you don't pick on AVE, quite the opposite in fact but I've watched AVE for years and he of all people breaks every rule in the book, nothing said.

      @@g0fvt I don't watch Delboy's channel bar the odd one, is he taking the piss out of Andy and his wife every other vid? I worked in a shipyard when I was younger building sites and many engineering factories and taking the piss out of a man's family was regarded as taboo.

    • @ANDY5
      @ANDY5  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh dear, here we go. There are no doubt loads of other creators that I could pick on, but there are several good reasons why I don't. 1. Why waste time and energy pouring through hours of content when there is one single repository for all things dumb? 2. He pissed me off when he bit my head off and deleted my comment the very first time I ever interacted with him 3. He made light of mental health issues.4. He's an arsehole.
      At what point have I bullied his wife? I presume you're referring to the video title. Did I not do work on a head? Was my friend Penny not featured in this video? Some people need to get a sense of humor. Bloody snowflakes.
      AvE is in a completely different league to said creator. He actually knows what he is talking about and doesn't pretend to be something he is not. He is talented, humorous, educated, entertaining and has a likable personality. Essentially everything said creator is not. There is more talent in the shit under AvE's little fingernail than in said creators entire body.

    • @g0fvt
      @g0fvt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nightster6378, I think people have been pretty polite to Delboy overall. Since even polite corrections are censored from his channel the comments are made elsewhere. I think the pseudo-physics about Evans coolant was one of the factors that started some of this. At times some of the bizarre physics and engineering practices that he talks about on his channel are totally wrong. I think most people with any familiarity with mechanical engineering would have cringed at the incident of the headstock bearing being hammered in. We all know if we commented that our comments would be deleted. His video quality and lighting are good, and he clearly makes a lot of effort to produce watchable content, I respect that. What I don't respect is the censorship of well intended and polite comments. Of course his loyal followers believe that anyone that dares to criticise any of his work must be jealous of his subscriber numbers if they have a TH-cam channel of their own. Delboys followers are just as "vocal" as the followers on here or the Workshop channel, probably more so because we are continually reminded of their greater numbers.

    • @jediknight1294
      @jediknight1294 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the guy is a smarmy abusive prick In private who will be all sweetness and light in public. He will delete a comment criticising his practices and leave an abusive comment there secure in the knowledge nobody can see it whilst elsewhere condemning insults and claiming to be a victim. He uses downright nasty and manipulative tactics to silence criticism, 'del's comment about hardening screwdriver tips is unsafe here is why' is refered to as defamatory attacks on his person.
      He is the type of person who encourages people to be attacked or abused in comments whilst utterly condemning and whining about being criticised and insulted condoning and cheering it on when it isn't him.
      That's his personal character, now you add in his lying, the fact many of his guides and videos are actively dangerous to follow. When wrong will bullshit through it and ultimately imply its the viewers that corrected him are the incompetent ones not him.. Makes up faux evidence to back up his statements with an appeal to authority. (lying about EBC advocating buttering your brake biscuit sorry brakepad with copper paste)
      Some of what we are doing is laughing at the office/workshop fuckwit like the no more nails thing and his playing with hot pipe and his ring...
      Spanner. Some of what we are doing is correcting DANGEROUS misinformation and terrible practices that will fuck up people and/or their bikes. Sadly some of what Del advocates could KILL someone and ensure his family isn't compensated because of voided insurance.
      The guy appeals to new riders because of a shiny workspace, shiny production standards, the logo and intro looking polished. He is looking like an authority to people who do not know what they don't know and those of us who do know we are doing have a duty to protect these people. We have tried being polite, reasonable and open about our concerns and he was a fucking cunt about it, so now we are doing it with videos calling him out in other people's comments, on our own channels so the pompous arrogant twat waffle can't edit or manipulate the discussion. It also helps that his attitude makes him seem unlikeable to those of us used to a workshop environment because he cannot deal with lightly being wound up whilst he hurls abuse at others.
      One final comment, as far as I have seen, there has at no point been an attack on his wife by Andy or Matt nor have I seen one in the comments. Del's attempt to hide from valid criticism via his wife is fucking low. Especially when he is being called out for dangerous shit. Done to her bike! I wouldn't support an insult to her based on her looks or similar crudity. However she is not immune from being called out for her involvement in Del's videos that contain lies and misinformation.
      Andy, your joke in the video title was in no way crossing the line, a beautiful wind up of a mate with an unfortunate last name. Anyone who has actually looked at your comments about del will realise there has to be a catch or trap to that title as you wouldn't cross that line.
      Just my view, that and 6$ will get you a root from the local bike.
