  • This video tracks my experience with ZOE; a nutrition program involving home test kits, an app, and some scientific muffins - all designed to help you understand how your individual body responds to what you eat.
▶️ WATCH PART 2 OF MY ZOE REVIEW HERE: • PART 2: ZOE Review (An...
Think of it as personalized nutrition - looking at YOUR gut #microbiome health, blood sugar and blood fat responses - so that, according to ZOE, you can "learn how to eat for your body" and "take back control of your health & weight".
The program is built on data from a series of studies known as #PREDICT - said to be the largest #nutrition studies of their kind, in collaboration with scientists from Massachusetts General Hospital, #Stanford Medicine, #Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and King's College London.
To explain the research behind ZOE, this video includes insights from the company's scientific co-founder and genetic epidemiologist (plus, previous #healthHackers guest!), Professor Tim Spector.
TRANSPARENCY NOTE: When I review products, I am sometimes loaned the items that I then return after reviewing. In this case, ZOE included a blood test and a poop test - tricky items to borrow! 🤣 ZOE sent me the kit and app to try out for free. As you know, my video reviews represent good-faith and honest opinion. The production of this video was not financed by ZOE.

Doesnt seem too expensive for such a highly personalised programme including use of the glucose monitor, blood and poo tests. If you compare to WW or SW it stacks up. Cant wait to give it a try now it has launched in the UK

I love this episode. I think it is great that Zoe delivers practical tools to the individual which we can use to help our own health. You do it so well, Gemma. It is fun and intelligent. And for those who are wishing that this was available in their country - we can all do quite a lot of this already - we can get the continuous glucose monitor and the poop analysis of gut bacteria, and we can eat a wide variety of vegetables and see what happens, all quite cheaaply. The extra that this gives is the analysis, including the fat analysis, the app, and the our participation in ongoing study.

Yes, I pile in a lot of plants eating the rainbow fruits/veg, etc ... every day and live with sadly profound inflammation levels due to my very tough life so getting to know our bodies responses to what we eat and the suitability of our diets is very valuable because we can't always be feeling/seeing our actual reactions in our guts to what we eat. Would have thought eating Dates could be nutritionally informative more than muffins especially with allergies. Look forward to part 2 David

I had no end of trouble with the Freestyle Libre sensor. Of six sensors i paid for: two were reading consistently low (I was NOT walking around with a BGL of 2.1), one bled profusely when applied and one did not separate from the applicator properly (leaving a spike sticking up so it had to be removed. They're expensive and i was not happy. If you check online reviews there are lots of complaints about sensor quality control.

This is a great, detailed review of an amazing service. I've mailed my poop off for analysis with another service, but there is no blood glucose monitoring, and certainly no muffins. This holistic approach seems like the right way to go about it. I'm eager to watch part 2. Thanks!

@@HealthHackers I haven't gotten that shi* back yet. I'll say they certainly asked A LOT of questions though, from digestion to illnesses to education level, to mental states to income level. I'll try to remember and post again here when I get the results. The stated turnaround time is 6 weeks, so I have like a month left to wait. I know the ZOE project got sidetracked with the whole Pandemic thing -- and that was an admirable thing to do -- but I'm looking forward to their future activities regarding food, health and the gut microbiome. I wonder if they are planning to expand to other countries. There's a big cultural component to food, so simply translating the food choices in the app probably won't create something that, for example, people in Japan or China would find ideally suited to their eating habits.

i recently found out this program is launched in Uk and came here to understand a little bit more about it, my question is whether you are required to send back a glucose monitoring device the one where you see your blood sugar? Because I was wondering if we can keep it so that in the future if I want to buy refills i could use the device to monitor it with it .

My Libre3 monitor was a disappointment. I attached it fine but couldn't get it to connect at all at first. I put a "disappointed" message on the Libre site and was helped by a Customer Services person to get it to work. I though all was fine because I could see the CGM information appearing but all wasn't fine. The information wasn't visible to Zoe. To cut a long story short, an attempt by Zoe Chat to help me to do this only resulted in 14 days of information being wiped! The result is that no blood sugar sensor analysis can be done. I haven't been offered the opportunity to repeat this step of the procedure. The Chat is taking days and days to respond to a conversation and I understand that they are overwhelmed by the messages they are receiving. I don't speak to the same person very often with the result that I am having to repeat myself again and again which is very frustrating. Can we sort this out, Zoe, please? I have invested a lot of faith and hope in this program and, so far, I've experienced nothing but frustration!

I tried Zoe for 4 weeks and I found it fairly useless. The information provided is extremely basic, the test results not informative and the food logging insufficient as many foods are not in their data base. The glucose sensor also stopped working after 4 days and the replacement sensor fell off when exercising. Cannot recommend them

I just cannot stand the thought of eating muffins - would never touch them normally, I like crunchy wholemeal food! Thought about overcoming my revulsion for the big reveal - saw a price of about £250, managed to get a 10% discount code by subscribing to something - went to the checkout with the cheapest plan available £299 - nowhere to put the discount code - then started reading these comments. Losing interest now. (I think it was this video reviewer who said weighing stuff out was a phaff). I think the time I'd spend weighing stuff out might be better spent doing something more dynamic.

I am thoroughly fed up with this as I have spent a week trying to get started. My (good) phone won't link to the new app, I have set the start date 3 times and then this hasn't registered for some reason so I'm starting anyway. Now I don't have the instructions to do what else us required. No one gets back in live chat and you can't ring them. A waste of £300 and VERY frustrating!! 😡😡😡

I did get it going but affixed the new sensor but had problems getting started so 'lost' 4 days of my blood sugar tests which was very disappointing. I also find now that, despite paying for all of this, you need to pay for at least another month's membership to achieve anything. Messages rarely get responded to within 3 days. They definitely need to sort themselves out!!

  • @Moi_81

I honestly think when you receive the product for free it is sponsored. Your payment is the item, which in this case is fairly expensive.

    • @HealthHackers
      @HealthHackers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Moi. Thanks for your comment. When I review items independently, I am sometimes loaned the products. In this case, ZOE included a blood test and a poop test - tricky items to borrow. 🤣 If I wasn’t loaned or given items, making informative and honest review videos would be an incredibly expensive job. ZOE sent me the kit to try out. When I see sponsored content online, that suggests to me that a brand intentionally paid the creator to make the video/feature with a joint agreement and purpose of advertising their product within the content. ZOE did not ask me to create an advert for them or pay me to say good things about the product (my videos always include my dislikes about a product too). I always disclose affiliate arrangements with brands, as you can see in the summary text on this video. I’ve written more about how my affiliate arrangements work here:
      healthhackers.org/disclaimer
I’d be interested to hear your view: How would you prefer to title this video to differentiate it from others that were paid for with an agreed intention to be endorsements or adverts?

Hopefully price will come down. It just with Covid and job losses the people really struggling with ill health and gut problems probably won’t be able to afford it. So only a certain section of the population will be able to try it.
